Couldn't be scary of a poison bolt claimed his life? The only reason to use poison and treachery is if you cannot defeat him any other way Henry.
Well at least we now know the Duke is not a witcher. Otherwise he'd have blocked the bolt in flight. Always have to look at the brightside. Means Henry could conceivably get past the Dukes reflexes with anything at the same level or higher than a crossbow bolt. Silver linings are still awesome aren't they? Shame about the attached clouds though.
