I literally just had the idea for Magical Girl Mecha and right as I look for new quests, here you go. *huffs lightly*
Sorry. ^_^;
I'm sure there's room for two. I know I'd certainly follow your take.

You know, it occurred to me that I'm pretty sure our armed forces are pretty mystified by how they keep recruitibg lesbians for this job.
It's the power of the yuri
With every new recruit it grows stronger, like a black hole sucking up more mass. Eventually it will reach critical and destroy us all.

(For real though, this is probably going to get lampshaded at some point. Especially since this is an analogue of the 1940's.)
I generally prefer to keep Gayngst out of my stuff, but at the same time I feel like it might be a cop-out to say "nah everyone's cool with lesbians because alternate universe." I'll have to come to a decision sooner or later, especially if you do wind up taking someone home to meet the parents. I'm definitely leaning towards this not suddenly becoming a super-depressing thing for the sake of maintaining an already-beyond-dubious historical accuracy, though.

[X] Bring up the robot now. Best to at least let Victoria know.

Lets tell someone of authority before it gets loose.

[X] Can't trust Victoria. Better to wait until you get to base and find someone more responsible.

Is this sudden display of seriousness and maturity on her part legitimate? I'm skeptical.

Would do a vote tally here, but it's pretty overwhelmingly in favor of telling Victoria, so...

I'm sure the armed forces has some lame excuse like "Our mechas works only for lesbians" :V, hell, japan is using this excuse in animu.
Of course, the other question is if they're even aware of or care about their pilots' orientations to begin with. Another thing I'm waffling on, and would be dependent on how progressive on that matter Mzendzovkian society as a whole winds up.

We Alex Jonesing this shit? The very future of Valleyia is at stake! :V
Valleyia?

Yeah, basically. She may be wildly irresponsible, reckless, careless, etc; but she's not a horrible person.

I couldn't remember the name of our country off the top of my head but I did remember it's in a valley, probably was(?) located in the Balkans before the barrier, and that a lot of Balkan states end their names with "ia". So, instead of properly going back through the thread and looking up the name, I used the nickname "Valleyia". I considered trying to be more subtle by calling it "Valleia" instead, which does look like something someone would call a Ruritania, but I was deliberately half-assing it so why bother. :p

Ah, that makes sense. :lol
And yep, Balkans. Nice catch!

Unexpectedly long* update is long. I've got the bulk of it written, but I'm starting to nod off, so I'll have to try to finish it sometime tomorrow morning.

(*Relatively speaking anyway, this probably won't be quite as extensive as the one with the memorial and Victoria's introduction)

Arrival
After a few moments, you twist around in your seat to exchange glances with Yelena, and she nods. You point to yourself, then to her; she shakes her head. Shrugging, you turn back to face the front, and speak up. "Um... when we went up to the pass, uh... we found a machine up there. It was trapped under some boulders, but it looked like it was trying to get out. If it does... well, I just think we should send someone to take care of it before it can sneak away and... you know."

"Ah, the mountaineers are at it again." Victoria responds cryptically. "Alright, got it. Good call to report this, though I'm not the one to talk to. If you find Nasira and let her know, she can send someone to deal with it." She adds something about 'buying time' under her breath, though you're not sure what she means by that.

Your attention is diverted the next second anyway, as Lynx reaches over to gently grab your left arm, the one that was bleeding slightly and is now starting to scab over. "It looks like you did more than just find it!" She points out, tone worried. "I think we should get you some medical attention before that gets worse." She also glances at Yelena, but the snowy girl is quick to assure her she's fine.

From the front passenger seat, Elaine glances at your arm as well, but upon seeing the damage is relatively minimal, gives a dismissive shrug. "Shouldn't we report in first, get all of the official work taken care of first? I mean, I'm sure you can last that long, right?"

You half-expect Hatice to chime in at this point, but she just gives you all a brief glare and turns back to look out at the passing scenery.

By this point, you're back in the hazy, pockmarked wasteland of the front, but up ahead there's a break in the oppressive grey. You're approaching either a huge flattened hill or a small mesa, capped with a collection of buildings; obviously the base. The top is at least as high as the ridge you'd watched the battle from, if not taller, though it's hard to tell for sure since the slope is more gentle here. There's a two-story-high wall ringing it about a hundred yards out, much like the one protecting New Cauterets; though it's damaged in spots and the hillside above has a few craters, it seems to be in pretty solid shape overall, especially compared to the otherwise quite bleak surroundings.

Up ahead, there's a low, very wide door or gate set into the wall; Victoria stops before it and fiddles with the radio for a bit. "This is Conley, at Gate B with the recruits."

"Gate B? We were expecting you at Gate C," A male voice responds grouchily. Regardless, the doors begin to open, splitting at the middle with each side accordioning to grant you all entrance.

"I took a bit of a detour; showed them the pass and the ruins." Victoria explains. She's definitely putting that alibi to use already, a more cynical part of your mind notes.

"Hmm. That was dangerous. There was a pretty big attack group that came in less than an hour ago; it took a certain someone's intervention to destroy them." Taking a more teasing tone, he adds "You've lost your lead."

"I noticed," Victoria grumbles under her breath, before adding more cheerfully, "Well we're lucky we missed them, then!" In the time it took for this exchange to play out, the gate has finally opened in full, and you drive on through. On the other side is a wide road leading directly into the hillside, and a dark tunnel with similar dimensions as the gate. Victoria takes the Studebaker right on in, unmindful of the shadowy interior, and after a moment, lights set into the ceiling suddenly flicker on to bathe everything in orange. At the far end is another gate, still closed, but Victoria instead takes the car into a narrower side-tunnel that curves slightly before widening out.

This room (though really it's just a slightly wider segment of the tunnel) has an alcove on one side that Victoria eases the Studebaker into, while across the way is a set of lifts. Once she turns the engine off, it's clear you've arrived; you all hesitantly grab your bags, exit the vehicle, and follow her over. The elevator is surprisingly not as cramped as you were expecting, even with the six of you and all your baggage as well. As she closes the grate and twists the crank to one side, the lift juddering uncomfortably before beginning its ascent, Victoria explains. "This was originally a train depot, built into the hill. You know, to store and repair locomotives and carriages, the like. When we pushed them back and found this place had been mostly left alone, we converted it into our base. It still ain't pretty, but it's definitely better now than when we first started here." She winked. "Think of it like we fixed the place up ahead of time."

Eventually it comes to a stop again, and she crosses over to the other side to open that grating - you hadn't even realized it was double-sided. Outside is a hallway with the other lift entrances, and a door on one end leading outside. Also waiting for you there is a bespectacled redheaded woman wearing a dark blue business suit, a bright red pencil skirt and tie, and an irritated expression. "Conley," she greets, and Victoria's demeanor suddenly shifts into that of a child caught with a hand in the cookie jar, "You wanted to talk when you got back here, and here you are, so let's talk." Turning to the rest of you, she suddenly puts on a kind, motherly smile. "You five will be fine from this point; the base isn't too big. Go ahead and do what you need to."

"Devora's right; go on ahead," Victoria repeats in an attempt to maintain authority, but quickly cowers under the other redhead's glare. The decision on whether to stick around or avoid the fireworks isn't hard, but there is the question of destination...

Where to?
> Find any sort of medical facility.
Best to get your arm (and ears) looked at.
> Track down Nasira. Better let her know about the robot sooner rather than later.
> Find out where to report in to. Maybe you should take care of the administrative stuff first.
> Just explore for now. Better get a lay of the land before you commit to anything.
> Listen in on Devora and Victoria. Might give you some insight into the dynamics here.

[X] Find out where to report in to. Maybe you should take care of the administrative stuff first.
-[X] Also inform about the hostile when reporting in.

Two birds, one stone. Whoever we report in too either likely has the authority to deal with it or will pass the info up to people who do. Then we should get our arm checked.

Sorry, but I must.
[Q] Stay. Defend one of your future waifus.
-[Q] Depending on the flow of conversation, try acquiring another one.

I'll make an actual vote in a few hours. Need to sleep for a while or I won't do shit in the morning.

[x]Find out where to report in to. Maybe you should take care of the administrative stuff first.
-[x] And report the bot too.

Yeah, that's about right.

Hatice really isn't endearing herself, in-universe or out. Having a "quiet" archetype character is fine, as long as they exhibit some other characteristics to compensate, or at least engender interest. If all she's going to contribute to the narrative is sullen glares, then there's not going to be any incentive to interact with her.

She'll get better. Probably.
But yeah, there is more to her than just grumpiness, even if she's doing her outmost to project nothing but that at the moment.

Power naps!:lol

They will drag me to my grave.

Whatever.

[X] Find out where to report in to.

... We are losing the war at the moment, aren't we.

Well, as Yelena pointed out, you're playing defense with no currently known way to shift into offense. You may not be losing anymore, but you're not really winning either.

Yeah. About that. And "mountaineers".
Is it what I'm thinking about?
( no, I'm not being deliberately vague to sound intelligent. Why do you ask? )

Well, what I'm thinking of may not be what you're thinking of, so what do you think it is? And what do you think I think you think it is? :p

I think you're thinking about what I'm thinking, though that may be offset by me not quite thinking of what you were thinking I'd been thinking a few minutes before. Tough call, that.
