Metroid: Decay

"D-Dr. Sakamoto."
Sakamoto adjusted his glasses.
And with that, Samus' eyes widened. "...Wait. Did you say..." She leaned forwards. "Metroid?"
That... is that the slimeball scientist who cloned the Metroids by scraping pieces of the baby off of Samus' suit?
I already feel kind of sorry for his gruesome demise.

Edit: And he's named after the George Lucas of Metroid, huh?

"...Uh..." He started sweating beads. "...yes. Yes, I...fuck."

"Where." Samus asked.

"I-I don't...!"

"Where?!" Samus grabbed him by the collar. "You said that there were metroids here! And the Federation thought this was acceptable?!"

"I didn't know there were any until one of them turned a friend of mine into black powder! After that..." He gulped. "A-after that, I locked us in here with a few rations."

Right behind him was a cart, complete with a few small cubes, each with "500 Cal" written on the side, and a few others with "Water" and a clear cap. "So that's how you survived here." Samus murmured.

Chloe looked outside, before Nova nodded and held her own gun out to the fake stone walls. Higgs sighed and moved over to the intern. "You alright, ma'am?"

"I...yes." She said. "...Other than the whole 'everyone you know is dead' thing."

"Well, we're gonna make sure you're not a part of that, okay?" Higgs smiled. "Don't worry."

"Easier said than done." Nova murmured. "...we're down half a fuckin' team."

"Wait, what?"

"Ignore her." Samus said. "Let's just move quickly. That kihunter-"

"I know what kihunters do." He spat.

"Then you know that we have to move." Samus brandished her gun. "You have that pistol, right? My ship's been damaged, so you need to stay with us for now."

"B-but it's just a paralyzer!" He stuttered. "It's only lethal if I hit the head!"

"Irrelevant. Any weapon is better than going empty handed." Samus turned her head to look down the hall. "Let's move."

As much as I like this story I almost shudder at the thought of this becoming a game. Metroid: Escort Mission Decay can be screwed up in SO many ways by a video game format. The only way I could see this working was if the escorted party didn't really have to be watched and instead acted as a sort of progress meter. you get free reign to explore the ship for "survivors " and just have to solve whatever soupcan puzzle blocks them from progressing when you want to reach the next area.

Second idea sounds kind of interesting, actually. Oh, and Samus magically loses all of her equipment at the start because some pirates steal it from her in the brawl in the forest.

Look at that face. Do you think someone is willing to steal from her without being under duress?

I guess it is only natural for her to go to the art museum fully armed due to how many times statues decided to get up and try and kill her.
Museum Visitor: "What happened to the Thinker?"

Museum Director: "He and every other statue are currently in the process of being.... rebuilt."

*Flashback*

Director: "What in god's name are you doing?!"

Samus: "Self Defense."

Director: "You beheaded The Thinker! An ancient Earth artifact!"

Samus: "He was the brains behind several assassination attempts by the other statues during my visit here. This was the logical out come."

Director: "Assassi- Wait, you're the one who impaled several of the Greek statues?!"

Samus: "Self Defense..... and I felt uncomfortable with Zeus's statue flirting with me."

I could almost see her keeping her helmet on while staring at the statues.

After all, she couldn't use her various visor modes or the scan mode to really look at the art.

And just about every last museum curator is terrified because she doesn't bother to talk during any of it, so she's just staring. In full armor. They can't even read her face. (Well, okay, it's not like her face would be that much easier to read when the helmet is off, but they wouldn't know that.)

And then she offers to buy one of the works using the sort of money that you could only get by claiming the bounty on a planet, because it kind of reminds her of Chozo artwork.

...

I made myself sad.

So... Kinda like Dead Rising? I could live with that.

She turned on her heels, and stepped once right outside of the room. And then, everything seemed to move in slow motion. An insect, much like the one that appeared before, slammed into Samus's chest, nailing her with a loud crash of metal. Without hesitation, Samus aimed her plasma beam at its wings and blasted them to burnt shreds before she nailed the top of its head with three good shots. There was a shriek, followed by a spray of blue blood, as the corpse collapsed at her feet.

"Close the door." Samus said. "Close the door now!"

Higgs nodded before he slammed the door shut and shoved a trolley right into it. And then, right then, there was the sound of skittering. Thousands of legs upon thousands of legs tapped against the walls, followed by the screams of pirates. Samus clenched her teeth, as she checked her missile ammo count and scanned the hallway.

And with that, it lit up, as yellow lights filled the hall. There was a shriek, followed by a single spray of acid. Samus dodged to the side, watching it as it splattered against the ground and started dissolving first the stone, then the metal framework underneath. She held her gun up and screamed, before she charged forwards.

The sound of flames and carnage could be heard from inside the room. Chloe held her pistol close, as Higgs held the door up with the trolley. The food was spilled onto the floor, and the two scientists quickly rushed it away...before suddenly, a spray of acid hit the door. In seconds, a hole was burnt through the door, and a red leg started clawing its way in. Without hesitation, Higgs moved away from the door, pulled up his gun, and fired several times at it.

The leg was frozen in seconds, as the rest of the kihunter screamed at the sudden motion. He raised a fist and ripped the leg off, and the kihunter's scream grew louder and more shrill. He switched out his ammo canister and shoved a grenade through the hole, and just as the explosion rocked the hallway outside, he started firing wildly into the swarm of monsters.

Meanwhile, Samus's cannon spat out a constant barrage of flame. Her gun screamed as she spent several missiles of ammunition, the number ticking down before she looked over to the door.

"Higgs." She kept firing as she called him.

"Kind of busy!" He said.

"Get away from the door." She took a deep breath. "Tell the two scientists to cover their ears."

"Huh? Why?"

"Give me a second."
Samus took a deep breath, before she started to run. She turned away, the kihunters following suit, before she dug her heel into the ground and turned back towards the swarm. "This is going to hurt."

"The hell are you-"
Suddenly, there was the sound of several hundred loud thuds against stone and metal. Higgs paused for a second, before suddenly, there was a woosh of air, followed by a tremendous bang. The entire room shuddered as everyone inside felt a wind rip into the room, pulling the door open even more than it already was as dust was sent flying.

Outside, Samus's feet slammed against the ground at a rapid pace, and a counter emerged at the center of her visor. At the end of the hall there was a wall, and right before then, there were still many, many kihunters. She looked behind once as the others were splattered against the walls, before she thrust her gun forwards and fired five missiles, all in an arc.

Whatever was left was quickly destroyed by the blast, and she shouted once into her suit. "Speedboost off." There was a hiss of air and a scream of metal, and with that, she started decelerating. She took a deep, relaxed breath, before she slid across the ground, stance wide, gun still aimed forwards. She shook her cannon once as smoke rose from it, and she quickly looked back. "Is everyone alright?" She asked.

There was a pause on the other end. Several seconds later, Nova eventually spoke up. "What the fuck was that?"

"Speedboost."
Samus said. "I don't like to use it and it's situationally useful at best."

"What the
fuck was that?!"

"I'll be back with the rest of you soon enough."

"HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK?!"

HAHAHA Silly Nova, that's just Samus breaking the laws of physics over her knee again. Move along nothing to see here.

Well, that explains why Samus hasn't Speedboosted her way throughout this thing. Even if it is one of her most useful utility abilities.

The stoneways gave way to cold steel, as they moved through a barrier that had been impaled into the hallway. The artificial gravity system was broken to hell, allowing them an easy way to float up through the halls.

"Okay." Samus looked down. "Barnes, do you and Sakamoto have breathing devices?"

Barnes nodded. "Yeah! Standard issue!"

"Good." Samus said. "The next sector doesn't look particularly nice...just a forewarning."

"Nothing here's been looking nice." Nova said, flatly, before Samus took another step forwards.

Suddenly, there was a lurch. The entire section seemed to suddenly shift as the gravity actually caused things to start collapsing. Suddenly, there was a whirring sound, followed by a few floating pebbles.

The group froze as they suddenly started to float. Sand from the temple hallway started to rise, as Samus nodded to the rest of the group. "We're moving. Into the tube." She moved her hand to her comm. "Do you have information on the next particular area? Any, say, horrible creatures?"

"Next section is completely blank. You guys are my only eyes here." Charles said. "Sorry."

Samus made a low grunting noise. "Well, we'll just have to keep moving. Stick to me."

[SECTOR 7]
[COMMAND CENTER]

A/N: This is nowhere near the end of the ship.

The atmosphere was cold...colder than usual. Both of the scientists had their masks on, and Samus adjusted her suit to keep herself attached to the ground. "...We seem to be at the command center."

"I don't think the AU's still online." Sakamoto said. "I-I'm not an expert, but..."

"The AU let this shit happen." Nova said. "Fuck it."

"I'm still struggling to grasp this." Adam said. "Why would the Aurora unit allow a ship like this to exist?"

"Research?" Samus offered. "Though I don't know if we should turn in the scientists for questioning."

"WHAT?!" Barnes shouted, before Sakamoto scrambled forwards.

"W-we don't know anything!"

"That's why I was saying that I didn't know." Samus said, harshly. "It was an idea."

"F-fucking scary idea." Chloe murmured. "...Is...is there anything else on this ship? It...I don't see anything. I don't know. I..." She whimpered a little.

As they moved, the debris around them floated idly, as their shoes kept them attached to the floor despite the lack of gravity. Even Barnes and Sakamoto were able to keep moving, and eventually, Samus reached the door at the end of the glass hall. She scanned it quickly, before looking around. "...Give me a second." She said, before she shifted into a morph ball.

Immediately, everyone leaped backwards in surprise, before she quickly rolled into a tiny vent.

The group stared at each other, then at the hole, then at each other again. Chloe was the first one to speak. "Uh...how?"

A/N: SPACE MAGIC

Morph ball is actually larger than people think. It's half Samus' height in diameter. That's about 3 feet wide. Plenty of space for a human to fit in.

It actually varies quite a bit. Most of the Prime series has it roughly 3ft diameter. But in both Fusion and Super Metroid it is two and a half feet diameter.
