We've got plenty of spare Mami's ahead of us. We can afford to risk breaking one, in order to see if we can actually get her to be happy as a catgirl.

Besides, Amura is still pretty unclear on why this could be seen as a bad thing. Even taking away the tail is probably a confusing idea for her, even if she's willing to do it for Mami.
