Mauling Snarks (Worm) (Complete)

Even if The Fallen manage to capture Taylor (and maybe Amy) and manage to keep them captive, there's another problem.

Given the trend of making various enemy groups smarter/more skilled/more sensible in this story, what if they didn't -want- to keep Taylor?

I mean, it sorta sounded to me like they weren't focused on grabbing her right now anyway, but it would surely be much easier to steal some of Taylor's eggs and find surrogates for them than deal with just the things they know she can do.

(Egg donation not being so easy in the real world, but it wouldn't be too hard to believe some tinker came up with something to do things quickly.)

This is not, of course, a plan significantly -less- likely to result in the Fallen getting beaten up.

Well that last part is enough of a plan to likely make Amy go a li~ttle Cthulhu on the Fallen ...

Might make you wonder if there's a Biological Reproduction snark, deployed, anywhere... Say one that can take the nucleus (DNA) from, say, blood cells (or hair roots, or cheek swabs...) and put it into an egg, then induce growth... Maybe even tweak the DNA in different ways... Really useful in agriculture and animal breeding, might have certain... ethical issues with sapients... Not Blasto, someone a lot less obvious...

Just for the sake of argument, let's assume The Fallen managed to capture Taylor. Let's further assume they managed to avoid being wiped out by pretty much everyone deciding The Fallen have gone too far, and that it's time to take off the kids gloves. Apparently Ward establishes that they are no where near as dangerous as The Fallen thought they were. Nor are they as unstoppable as they think. After all, when they decided to stop playing Hillbilly Kissing Cousins, they got smacked down hard. Apparently. But just for the sake of argument, let's assume they somehow managed to avoid the wrath of everyone they angered by kidnapping Taylor. And let's assume they managed to avoid receiving their own personal apocalypse at the hands/claws/whatever of the Endbringers. And let's even further assume they managed to repeatedly get Taylor pregnant. Yeah, that's very unlikely to happen. But let's make the assumption that everything has gone right for The Fallen.

Their plan to try breeding 'heralds' would fail right from the start anyway. Why? Because Taylor's abilities are the result of a unique combination of damaged shard, bud from Broadcast, and Taylor's own subconscious desires. Even if the hypothetical children did receive a bud and have the potential to trigger, the chances of them getting identical abilities to Taylor are so small they aren't worth calculating. In fact, odds would be good they wouldn't even develop powers anywhere near those of Taylor due to how many other shards are around to receive buds from. In short, they wouldn't get the 'heralds' they desire. Meanwhile the Endbringers would... no longer be trying to destroy civilization. Instead they would be trying to destroy The Fallen's little slice of degeneracy. As would pretty much everyone else, including the most notorious of serial killers... the Slaughterhouse Nine.

Not that their plans would ever actually get to this point to begin with. There's too many things The Fallen are unaware of that will throw a major monkey wrench in their plans.

That idea is weird speculation. They want to take Taylor so they can figure out how to reproduce her ability to communicate with the Endbringers. I don't know how the discussion turned to "they want to raise Taylor's children", but the last time a Fallen viewpoint considered their plans was this:
With any luck they'd know how to make heralds soon and she wouldn't need to return at all.
It's a bad plan because the Fallen would need to have most of the information Taylor knows about snarks, the ability to identify snarks, and a greater ability to manipulate what power snarks give their hosts in order to succeed. That powers don't necessarily breed true is a tertiary problem at best.

Mostly because the Fallen, what we know about them from canon anyway, says that they are led by a group of families that sort of try to improve their link to their respective Endbringer models by gaining stronger versions of Family powers, usually through line breeding. (Yes, there's a bit of old Egyptian royal family practice going on there, apparently.)

Their plan appears to require pulling one over on Ziz.

Reminder: Ziz pulled a con-job on an unrestricted Path To Victory user in the canon endgame. Zion used PtV to kill her. She didn't die.

Actually, material doesn't matter. If it did, Kaiser would be a lot less dangerous. He can produce metal blades from any flat surface, similar to how his father, Allfather, could conjure metal blades in mid-air. So, if the tank is some tinkertech hyper-aerodynamic not-a-flat-plane-on-it tank, they are fine. Otherwise? Not so much.

Edit: The third generation of the power was Golem, who lost the limitation on Blades and on Metal, but has to have a sample of what he will project through.
What makes you think that Kaiser can't produce blades from modern tanks as opposed to WWII tanks?
In canon he produced steel blades from asphalt and concrete so the material doesn't matter. I don't know if he can produce blades from a moving surface, but that will apply equally to modern and old tanks.

Yup, I was mis-remembering Kaiser's power - I was thinking it need to project from a metal surface. Mea culpa.

One of the other AIs with Dragon, AKA people with NO biology will get this one.

Nor is it known that Taylor can call upon a couple of pranksters located in another dimension to aid in their escape.

I just hope that after this Amy and Taylor get a set of crystals and related equipment implanted that allows them to get to their pocket dimension even if they're stripped of all equipment.

Who cares if there's dangerous radiation emitted if it's a last ditch, 'oh fuck I need out of here' measure. Especially if you have a girlfriend who can fix the radiation damage.

(Also, I suggested they needed to do this waaaay back when they first got their pocket dimension, just saying.)

It's called asking Scotty to Beam them Up, not difficult, and doesn't take any equipment.

No, that would be second to last; you don't choose the possibly irradiating option unless the non-irradiating option has failed, even if your girlfriend can fix any radiation-related problems.
... The irradiating option is the Dodge portal pocket dimension, the non-irradiating option is having Doormaker grab them, they don't live in a snark, they live on an uninhabited Earth.

So not knowing off the top of my head what this particular tank looks like I tried to google it. Can anyone tell me what universe it comes from, please?
I believe that this particular model of tank comes from the Mauling Snarks universe.

(Incidentally, I'm looking forward for the inevitable standoff in the next several chapters.)

Remember: the question is never "Am I paranoid?", it's "Am I paranoid enough?"

And the answer is "No."

(What? Why, yes, I used to be a sysadmin, why do you ask?)

It actually is possible to be too paranoid. Just ask Batman about what happened with the whole Brother Eye thing. When your paranoia starts to actually create the very threats you were afraid of, you're too paranoid.

Note that I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with MS, it's one of my favs. But try and remember that nothing bad ever happens to anyone but Taylor.

So Bonesaw installing an electricao device into Shadow Stalker's brain that's incompatible with her power, meaning should she ever go full shadow state she'll die instantly, in a setting where being unable to use your powers will drive you insane is 'nothing bad'?

Being captured by a pissed-off Jack and having your brain removed and turned into a spiderbot which was then traumatized to the point of triggering *again* is 'nothing bad'?

Taylor unknowingly exploding a bunch of innocent people who were attatched to the same shard as Echidna... all good, I guess?

Shall I keep going....? :p

I haven't read that particular section in a while, but I'm fairly certain that Sophia doesn't need to enter her shadow state fully; just being able to partially enter it is sufficient to prevent Sophia from becoming insane.

They actually had called in Amy specifically to insure that Sophia could be able to do so.
