Mauling Snarks (Worm) (Complete)

I was under the impression that Eidolon's "Snark" was basically Eden's QA, and he it let him access powers of other damaged "Snarks", and possibly the Snarks of dead hosts?
I'm going with "Eidolon's power was what Eden would have used to run any abilities she wanted to" and that Zion's version is in use by Zion. Instead of being "access each power" I figured it made more sense for it to be "emulate known configurations" given that Zion indicates that parts of shards shut down when they aren't needed with a host, and relying on hosts having the right ability sets active doesn't make a whole lot of sense. That and because otherwise the sudden "I have energy, so a bunch of things work now!" bit from canon makes a lot less sense, at least to me. Then again, a lot of canon doesn't make sense to me...

Eidolon is still incredibly limited, of course, because his snark hasn't been deployed. So it's stuck in transport size and has no resources to grow, which would let it do more at once.

Heh, just a realization, for all of you older internet game/chat junkies...

[@]Broadcast Administrator took away Emulator's Danish.

Checking Limits (Verdthandi)
Checking Limits (thanks for the better title!)
—————
My brain rings.

"Oh, Alexandria is calling. Be back in a few."

I walk towards my room and close the door. "This is Maul."

"Maul, we'd like to try something. Are you in a private location?"

"My Wards room. What can I do to help?"

"You've mentioned that you can feel the 'box-moving snark', I believe you called it? And you have a 400m range to communicate with snarks?"

I take a breath. This is a disturbing conversation already. "Yes, those are both true."

"Several snarks will appear in your range soon. Only communicate with the snark that will be 399.5 meters from you. We need to know it's limits. I strongly advise being respectful."

"Understood."

Alexandria's line goes mute.

A golden circle appears in front of me, through which I see a white-painted wall. The box-moving snark's work, I can tell. Thousands of snarks appear, just like little fireflies. As directed, I keep silent.

Another something happens, and suddenly I feel hundreds more. They're in many of the same places as the others, but not. It feels like the path to them is folded up on itself.

"Huh, Vista just walked past two others. Weird."

Legend passes through the edge of my range, one circle away.

As Alexandria promised, there is only one snark that is 399.5 meters from me. It's one I've never seen before.

And what do you do for your human?

HARVEST

So, you wait until the jabberwocks are ready to leave, and then rip out all of the snarks. And in the meantime you let your human use any 3? Doesn't that kill the other humans?

REAP

"Alexandria, would you please explain why I'm talking to Glaistig Uaine?"

As I was reading the part about the hardlight device, I wondered what would happen if she used her power on a rake. Would there be multiple lines of force? Or just one masive one.

That being said, sunlight is free and a large, thin cloud would be super efficient compared to solar panels.
Why would thin clouds be more efficient than panels? Also, is there any indication that Taylor needs to get any extra energy to Grue's snark? It seemed to have no trouble giving her enough to top off multiple snarks and that was weeks ago.

um a bit of context please?
The Danish was what we called the "@" sysbol that designated a Super user or higher. Basically what we call Moderators now. If a reg user could Prove Abuse of privilege, or harassment to the higer up administrators, then said privilege would be revoked, and the "Danish" would be removed from the persons account status.

Eidolon's reaction when Taylor tells him his power wants him to die:

Eidolon crouching in a corner cries and draws a circle on the ground with his finger, a rain cloud over his head.

Taylor pulled the hard-light projector out of the pouch she'd dropped it in and then dug around for a data cable she was fairly certain would work. Or at least her snark thought so, which was good enough. She grinned in triumph when she found it, and then made quick work of attaching the projector to one of the fold-out terminals in the table.

"So you've got twelve slots?" Amy said a couple of minutes later as she watched Taylor work.

"Yeah," Taylor said, even as she started messing with the spiked mace model. She opted to blunt the spikes to make it a studded mace instead of a spiked one. Luckily there was a good 3D modeling program available. "I think I'll leave the sword despite it not being blunt, and four of the slots are empty anyway as they were damaged."
I wonder, if Taylor ever figures out how to program that thing quick, would that be like giving her a low-grade Lantern ring? Since she might be able to change the hard-light forms with her brain.

I forgot, what are PRT-issue toolkits? What are they for?
Probably standardized tool sets for tinkers in the field. Since Taylor and Amy are just now being tested on their Tinker-ness, it makes sense for such things to be handed out.

I must admit, I kinda hope we get at least one Endbringer attack - I was looking forward to Maul linking the snarks of every cape that showed up for the fight, like the Lung fight but even bigger...
I am with you there. Seeing a written large scale Battle Meditation with details could be awesome.

Hmm... so Taylor may have made him even MORE powerful?
Probably not. Just different. Probably more energy intensive for the results, less efficient, but could be a good thing from the Snark's POV. Because DATA. It might get lucky and find an untried pattern that is superior in some way to established uses. And it might lead to a very confused Eidolon as dead powers rise up from the grave on his list.

What about that whole thing about him not being able to be seen by the Path To Victory? Could a Master power have anything to do with that? It proves how special he is after all.
I'd assume that's more a 'blocked by access level' kind of thing. And Eidolon's Shard, Endbringers, and Entities have higher access levels than what PtV does after being restricted. Eidolon's probably because he's got a 'core' bit that it looks at to determine access levels.

Also, on a more human level. Why has his therapist and his 'coworkers' not put up more of a fuss about not going to therapy?
Probably because of how 'important' he is. No one wants to be the first one to risk the Wrath of God falling down upon them. Like sometimes you'll find someone doing something wrong in a public place, but nothing happens. If someone did something, a lot of people would pile on, but until someone does, no one wants to risk acting alone.

Given that sort of context, I wonder if part of the reason shard-bits shut down might not be some sort of power saving mode.

Eidolon is still incredibly limited, of course, because his snark hasn't been deployed. So it's stuck in transport size and has no resources to grow, which would let it do more at once.
Ouch. Not only hungry, but stuck in an airplane or elevator for...decades longer than expected. No wonder it was feeling pissy at first.

Forget the building, they should be able rebuild the twin towers...
Were the Twin Towers destroyed? I suppose Behemoth might have done it in the NYC attack of '94, but they wouldn't really have the same emotional impact.

Why would thin clouds be more efficient than panels? Also, is there any indication that Taylor needs to get any extra energy to Grue's snark? It seemed to have no trouble giving her enough to top off multiple snarks and that was weeks ago.
Because the person you were replying to was under the impression that the reserve of energy that Taylor/BA could draw from Grue was limited to what energy Grue absorbed with his power directly, as opposed to the Snark acting independently on a Venus and Grue's dark clouds just being a bonus.

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on how effective the repurposed hardware is. I find myself doubtful that it is better than the specialized components.
True. But you never know. He might get lucky.

So big that Trump is officially jealous.
*snickers* Nice one.

Well, it'll definitely be interesting either way. And on the upside, he's been taught a lesson.
Maybe his snark will be less energy intensive, since it has less things to fuel.

"Now then," Taylor said aloud. "I'm going to suggest that you go wait patiently in the conference room, as we're in the middle of power testing and the normal source of energy I'm using hasn't arrived yet. When they show up and we get to the actual feeding testing we'll see about feeding your snark, ok?"

Eidolon just nodded, apparently not trusting himself to speak, and very carefully stood up and backed out of the room, hitting the wall three times before he found the door. He then hit that twice before finding the 'open' button.

Well, that DE-escalated quickly! Has that ever been said about a Worm fic before? :lol

They'd somewhat gotten stuck on a specific statement, though, as Eidolon being shut down for at least two hours before being forced into a therapy session was a little hard to take in. Now if only their own abilities weren't all confirming it.
Now we just need have Dragon make a report on Endbringer activity during that two hours and have those in the know about Eidolon's power-loss realize the two were related.
