Terra nova was one of the first founded in 2152 as of 2183 it apparently had 4.3 million people on it with earth having 11 billion.

I'mma probably be fiddling these numbers a bit and I'll get back to you.
Fair enough. Planetary populations in sci-fi tend to be all over the place. Most likely because we have no actual model to work with.

huh...could we build lightning rod towers to collect power for the colony and to power things that would be effective if not so ludicrously power hogs? just attach lightning rods to mechs to have them run forever.

Turn 5 Rumour Mill
Cluster News
Hope Springs Eternal: Roquibian has announced that it is expanding its leisure operations following its lucrative deals with the colony of Perkwunos and Rondam Expiditions. According to colonial representative Ulan Batar, they hope to add several major new sites, but the main one is to be a massive artisanal water park, named Hope Spring in commemoration of those that fell in the recent fighting to protect colonies like them in the Traverse. In the meantime, the colony is offering discounts to members of the two fleets currently resting within the cluster.

Uptick in small raids: Warnings have been issued across the cluster due to several raids on smaller transport vessels. These attacks have been swift and thus far primarily been targeted at ships that have strayed from normal transportation lanes. At this time, It remains unknown who has been carrying out these operations, while Matriarch Polan and Vice Admiral Fullers have been reportedly nervous to cast their net over a wider area for fear that this is an intentional distraction so the pirates can perform a major strike. Even with the end of the Traverse War, it seems that blood will continue to be shed.

Fleets staying put: Under orders from their respective commanders, the now reinforced 4th Task Force and 4th Patrol Fleet are remaining put. The former is continuing to stand watch primarily over the colony of Olmantsi while the latter watches over the region's human colonies. This represents a fairly significant concentration of force, although it is not expected that both will remain here for long. As it stands, both fleets have run the occasional joint exercise, and are working together "well" if the information released to the public can be believed.

Odd goings on at Kadris: The newest colony of the cluster has been undergoing rapid development by the Batarians, with the Hegemony bringing in larger numbers of "slave caste" workers than normal in order to grow the Helium-3 plants quicker. However, large numbers of slaves are reportedly going missing. We pray that this is because they are finding some means of escape and not due to them having met a grisly end.

Corporation branches out: With the success of their eezo refinery on Perkwunuos, Nal'Vatanis Extractions has decided to go for the bold move of effectively buying the mineral rights for all dead systems in the cluster. While this is a massive area to exploit and a huge investment of capital, if they manage to pull it off then Nal'Vatanis will rapidly expand in size and ability. Despite this acquisition being criticized as overextension by many leading economists, we will have to wait before seeing how it goes for them.

Systems Alliance News
Eternal Earth raided: Eternal Earth is a highly xenophobic terrorist group that formed in the immediate aftermath of the First Contact War. Known for absolutist rhetoric, the group has been involved in numerous bombings against pro-Citadel politicians and public figures. They even attempted to assassinate the Pope at a public appearence. However, this year their headquarters were finally tracked down and raided. Recovered plans indicate that one of their members, Ivor Johnstagg, intended to try and assassinate Venta Tox, the Volus ambassador to the Citadel who was coming to witness the start of this year's exchange programme. If attempted, never mind successful, this would have been a severe blow to humanities chance to gain an embassy on the Citadel.

Bugs, bugs, and bugs: Over the last few years SAI has reportedly been disarming bugs from dozens of non-human groups. The most prominent has been the Salarian Special Tasks Group, but Hegemony Intelligence has been a close second. Terra Firma has gained ground by stating that this is proof of the untrustworthiness of aliens. The galactic community's response has been mixed. The Salarians seem almost brazen, the Hanar apologetic, the Batarians denied it while the Volus and Asari seem apoplectic with anger. The only bugging devices not discovered were from the Turians, who seem somewhat bemused. Whether this means they didn't plant any or simply kept theirs well hidden is unknown, and no doubt a major source of stress for SAI.

Colonial Rights: While the Systems Alliance parliament was initially hailed as a great bulwark of change for humanity, the fact remains that creating it was an effort in cooperation and compromise. What resulted was not what the originators of the idea intended, as the majority of power still lies on Earth, or at least Sol, while the power of the rapidly growing and multiplying colonies is comparatively minor. However, with several successes already under the belt of the institution, colonial interest groups are agitating for them to be given more rights and broader representation. While Terra Firma has protested any reforms in their usual lockstep, the fact remains that there are many in support of such an idea both on and off Earth. What they lack is the ability to agree on what should be changed.

Educational Exchange: As of this year, exchange students will be going further than they ever dreamed. To Thessia, Palavan, Surkesh, Dekuna, Kahje and Irune, they will be going to learn at institutions older than many human civilizations. In return, many students from across Citadel Space will be coming to the Systems Alliance to study at the Universities of Oxbridge, Hong Kong, Harvard, and more. With luck, this will enrich all involved. Of all Citadel-aligned species, only the Batarian Hegemony refused this, although refusing exchange programs is the Hegemony's standard policy under orders from the Department of Information Control.

Close Inspection by Batarians?: The Batarian Hegemony has been sending numerous ships into and around Alliance Space. So far, nothing even slightly criminal has been proven, but they are oddly enthusiastic about searching around.

Galactic News
Humans for Citadel: While the species involved voted on it last year, it was officially confirmed by the Council that they have received the application for an embassy and expect it to be finalised by next year. This has prompted a wave of celebrations among the more optimistic parts of the galaxy, welcoming another enthusiastic member of the galactic community. Others are impressed at how quickly an embassy is being granted, stating that it is proof of humanity's worth, although historians are quick to point out that the last embassy was granted hundreds of years ago. Now that it doesn't take months or even years to travel between polities, of course it's faster. Others have taken a more sober view of the matter, concerned about humanity's fast paced expansion and explosive rate of militarisation, although given the recent Traverse War not many are truly leaping to judge.

Revolutionary Dark Matter study begins: Dark Matter is considered an integral part of the Mass Effect; actual knowledge of the mysterious substance is much less concrete. As such, a cooperative effort between several research institutes and universities funded by the Council intends to finally unravel its secrets and get to the bottom of the matter. Although some pundits have noted that this promise is made regularly enough to set your clock by it, there is a faint hope that new technologies and the newly accessible human body of research on the subject will mean that this time results can be achieved.

Scandal on Sur'Kesh: After a deep investigation by Lanadal Journal, it has been discovered that Dalatrass Tyreen has been violating reproductive law. While she has already publicly fertilised the maximum number of eggs allowed, the Dalatrass has proceeded to fertilise nearly fifty more. The logic behind this action remains unknown, but the Dalatrass has been arrested and the eggs taken by child protection regardless.

Ward Murders remain Unsolved: After nearly 10 years, the murderer of Golvin Ward remains at large, with another body added to a painfully long and bloody list. Executor Tyran has stated that he intends to retire if he cannot catch the perpetrator soon. The distinct style of murder, via strangulation, suggests a very strong individual, especially since a Krogan is among the dead. Despite initial outcry that a Krogan was responsible, C-Sec has categorically denied this to be the case, releasing information that confirms the constrictor could not anatomically be a Krogan.

Turian Leadership Criticized: Tyros Lidanus was the Turian Councilor until the First Contact War. After protesting Hierarchy actions against humanity, and publicly lambasting General Desolas Arterius who lead the invasion, Lidanus was recalled by Primarch Fedorian and stripped of his position. Cast from the halls of power, his replacement Sparatus was elevated to the position immediately. Now quite a way into his forced retirement, Lidanus has published a book entitled "The Death of Integrity: A Story of Bloodthirst". Here he criticizes Primarch Fedorian for following in the steps of his predecessors in Turian High Command, being far too willing to utilise war as their first option rather than their last, and more concerned with the idea of warriors rather than protectors. This controversial book has fanned the flames of criticism of the Primarch, while the Hierarchy itself has thus far refused to comment.

Carriers Disseminating: With the undoubted success of the Spear of Palaven, several other Council races are taking a shot at building their own, while the Turians have begun construction of a second vessel. Some military commentators have remarked that the Carrier may be the death of the traditional dreadnought, as was the case on the seas. Numerous panels of military analysts have disagreed with this idea, systematically braking down the advantages and disadvantages of a carrier in various scenarios and noting that due to their size they were still under sanction by the Treaty of Farixen and had even higher crew requirements. No matter what advantages they hold in less conventional warfare, during straight fleet battles dreadnoughts are far more useful and capable. One analyst was recorded as stating that "people always say that X is the end of the Dreadnought, but thousands of years later the Dreadnaught is still the peak of naval warfare. The introduction of disruptor torpedo equipped fighters in the first place didn't kill it, ships with more of them won't either, not with modern advances in GARDIAN systems."

Thank @EternalStruggle!

I vaguely remember something like this. Wasn't it an Elcor?

In space the only thing that will make a ship class useless if the ship class doesn't get updated to the current tech level. I can't think of any ship class that is worthless in space other than submarines but then I realized they just got renamed to stealth ships.

All we know was, Garrus ran into a Elcor serial killer. That's kinda it.

That said, a Elcor would make sense, they're roughly as strong as a Krogan, and as a Krogan was strangled, yet evidence shows it literally could not be one....

Hmm... Do we have a map of the cluster? I mean, a Batarian world suddenly ballooning in slave numbers, and with lots of disappearances? Combiend with tons of bugs and their "inspections".....

If SAI doesn't see this as signs of a potential attack, some people need to start updating resumes.

the Volus and Asari seem apoplectic with anger.

So is this out of anger at being found, or that there was so many bugs?

It takes a while, but its to ensure that justice is served and to make a spectacle of it, although to give his lawyers credit they're doing their best.

huh, I wonder how the turian mindset deals with being obligated to defend an obviously guilty monster. I could see it either they deal with it well since it's a part of duty, or deal with it not so well because the guy spat on duty and that is a virtue that has more universal appreciation among them than most other virtues among humans.

They see themselves as obligated to defend civilisation, the law and the right to a fair trial is no different.

It helps that there's also numerous laws in place to protect them from the blacklash of defending such a client, for all intents and purposes his defendants are anonymous, even he doesn't know who they are.

Good to know.

That's what they said for the navy to, it still killed them.

Thing is, I think the dreads would still be an effective deterrence vessel for any fleet that does not possess a carrier. And Carriers aren't really a cheap investment when compared to a dread I think. Correct me if I'm wrong. As a peacekeeping force, it's probably more efficient to deploy them than send a carrier out with its extended escorts.

Then again, if someone manages to make a Star Destroyer...

I mean, the problem is that in single salvo engagements a fighter is worth less than its weight in torpedoes by definition because spaceships all operate in the same medium with the same propulsion as opposed to naval carriers and jet fighters. Then you have to consider that a dreadnought can gut a carrier in practically one shot going by the Codex description of carrier durability, and you run into the problem that in a white room a single dreadnought > a single carrier probably over nine times out of ten. The main advantage of carriers is you can reuse the fiddly engine and control bits of the torpedo (the fighter) and deploy more precision-oriented surface attacks. Like the update says, the advantage of carriers isn't in main combat roles, because this is space.

That's what they said for the navy to, it still killed them.
Problem is, spacecarriers are not equivalent naval carriers.

The big advantage of the naval carrier is that it introduces a whole new dimension to naval conflict. Airplanes operate in an entirely different medium(air) than ships (water). This allows them to be much faster, as well as a bunch of other stuff. Space carriers don't have this advantage. Their fighters operate under the exact same rules.

A more accurate naval equivalent for the space carrier is the Torpedo Boat Tender.

Hope Springs Eternal
They are making lots of Money from the two Patrol Fleets. Maybe we can sell them more Material if they are going to keep building Stuff.

Uptick in small raids
Real Raids or Cerberus trying to hide their Tracks? I mean it could be Batarians.

We probably don't have to worry about Pirates as long as the two Fleets are around.

Odd goings on at Kadris
Could be someone helping Slaves escape. Would fit with the smaller Transport Vessels being destroyed.
If that are Slaves in the first place.

Corporation branches out
We will have to expand our Orbital Infrastructure alot. Many Ships to refuel, maybe we could even start building Transport Ships.
And this will attract Pirates later.

Eternal Earth raided
One less Conspiracy to worrie about and one less between Cerberus and SAI.
They even attempted to assassinate the Pope at a public appearence.
Every Conspiracy does that.:V

Bugs, bugs, and bugs
Of course the Turians are bemused. They have a Blacksite/Outpost on our Colony while the others have Trouble hiding Bugs.

Not sure whats going to happen here.

Educational Exchange
So we can contact a human University and get a Volus or Asari?

Close Inspection by Batarians
Could be scouting for Attacks or searching for Ships.

So the Traverse War helped making a good Impression. Could help if the Batarians are still going to be aggressive.

Revolutionary Dark Matter study begins
Is this about the dropped Mass Effect Storyline? Anyway I doubt they are going to learn anything soon. Not without finding some Ruins with Research about Dark Matter.

They have Child Protection?

Ward Murders remain Unsolved
No Idea what is going on here.

Turian Leadership Criticized
Oh hey even more Politics. Nothing that affects us exept if Tiberius ends up as Primarch.

Carriers Disseminating
I thought Carriers are except from the Treaty?

@Doomed Wombat Is the BAaT Programme controlled by the SA or by Conatix?
I'm curious if we could reach out to the SA to get some Scientist to research Biotics and our Wildlife.
It should be alot easier, and less morally questionable, to experiment on Animals to learn about Biotics than on your own Citizen.

I thought Carriers are except from the Treaty?
There is a lot of legal debate around that at the moment.

When they were first introduced they automatically fell under the treaty due to being the same size as a dreadnought. As there's never been any thing of the same weight class as a dreadnought that isn't a super massive cargo ship, the distinction was never made.

Now that the initial hype has died down and more proof has come in proving that while potent they are not the end of dreadnought dominance there are already petitions to have them excluded from the treaty, whether they are remains to be seen.

@Doomed Wombat Is the BAaT Programme controlled by the SA or by Conatix?
Conatix has total control, the ability to shut out inspectors etc. while getting massive funding from the SA.

A decision born out of having to keep too many plates in the air at once I fear, so they off loaded the experts studying the biotics already alive (i.e. Kaiden) to Conatix.

You can certainly try to see if they have anyone to spare.

Out of curiosity, why cant we simply adapt Asari implants? I recall one of the ME3 assets was basically doing just that.

I'd like a citation for that, since the closest I could remember or find was an asset of new biotic amplifiers for the asari which schematics were created in the Grissom academy.

Maybe that was it. Either way it kinda implies a bit of cross compatibility don't it?

Grissom was a human school right?
Yeah, it was, but those were just schematics, most likely easy to change to fit asari brains and also much later in timeline with more advanced technology. It is also possible that they were developing those implant schematics for the asari from the start as a part of biotic research co-operation. I doubt just adapting already existing implants to work with brains of another species is going to be easy. Especially since human biotics are a completely new thing atm.

Huh, I thought the Point of the Treaty was to limit who can destroy Garden Worlds and prevent a Arms Race that could destroy the galactic Economy.
So the Treaty would affect Ships that can destroy Planets/Biosystems, like Dreadnoughts with their Main Gun, and Ships that need huge Amounts of Ezio.

Conatix has total control, the ability to shut out inspectors etc. while getting massive funding from the SA.
There is absolutely no Way that could go wrong. No Sir.:V

You can certainly try to see if they have anyone to spare.
We can't mention our own biotic Kids, that would draw Attention from Conatix. They won't risk losing the SA Funding.

Maybe pitch it as a research into how Biotics in general work with our biotic Wildlife as Test Animals.
Then a reach out to a University/Researcher on Cybernetics and we could start developing our own Implants and avoid the L2 Screw up.
It would also give the SA a Alternative for Research and Training of Biotics once Conatix gets taken apart for their Screw ups.

I think most of our Actions next Turn will be about Stuff we already know.
Establish Police to deal with the Crime Syndicates and the Bio-Cult.
Research to find out how we can build Stuff without the Wildlife trying to kill us.
Wildlife Exploitation to learn how we can get Ezio out of them and prevent them from attacking us.
Helium 3 extraction? Either to take Advantage of the Nal'Vatanis Expansion or to make fueling the SA Patrol Fleet easier.

That takes 4 of our 7 Actions. Then we could
Reach out to Alliance
Reach out to Universities
Ensure Education
or more Migration
to get the Research into Ezio, Biotics and Implants going or
Reach out to [Kadaris] for [EspionageDiplomacy]
Planetary Exploration

To learn more about our own Planet and the new Colony with it's Population of vanishing Slaves.
And maybe a Action to contact Massani, either to hire him and look into Cerberus or ask him whats going on with the Blue Suns and the Batarians.
