Honestly, Louise swinging around a sword way bigger than she is would be pretty damn fun to read about, especially since everyone around her would be completely astounded to see someone so twiggy wield Derflinger with such ease.

She'd better start grinding her stats then. Or at least do some pushups since she doesn't have the required strength to use Derf.

I wonder if she'll ever discover ID Create?

I think you digging up information on the Messer is super cool and I'm glad you mentioned. I like old medieval weapons and German ones in particular. I also think the katana is highly over hyped.

On the other hand, I think the Kriegsmesser is a terrible weapon for Louise. The Albion Swords version weapon is 37 cm shorter than Louise is tall and at the high end(upwards of 1.5 m according to Wikipedia), the sword is 3cm taller than Louise. Then consider the grip, Louise is a small girl with small hands, the grip may be uncomfortably wide and long. That's awful hard to be combat effective with, much less cast combat magic with. Especially since casting is typically portrayed as a one handed process and the curve of the blade can't help aiming a spell.

I mean, it's fantasy and The Gamer would make anything work, but having to make something work isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

I think having Louise work at making it work long enough to get Derflinger's respect is a more reasonable situation. Derf can inhabit swords of his choice after all, so why not a nice swordwand or rapier?
This is the gamer, a high leveled skill with a sub optimal weapon is probably better than an low leveled skill with an optimal weapon, after all it's based on RPGs, and you rarely gets problem there because your weapon don't suit your body type only if your stats are too low.

Sadly Derf is enough of an old fart to have forgotten he can do most of what he can do including this.
Derf can be reminded thought. Feed him with mana and he will recall things better I think

Apparently THIS passed as a Man in Karin's sidestories. Then again Tristanian standard for male beauty is probably Girly Bishonen while Germania is BEEF

Hmm Oh God SwordWand Louise would trigger Karin SO FUCKING BAD it would be hilarious and kinda sad

1. I am surprised that the pic has not been triggered the NSFW rules.
2. How the hell did they mistake her for a boy when she was dressed like that?

And yes, Sword Louis would get an interesting reaction from Karin.
I suppose it helps that her partner was dense as a brick.

"Isn't is obvious that's a women?"
"What? No, that's can't be."
"Well what about the long pink hair, and the girly face, and the midriff exposing top, and the long slender sleeveless arms, and the thigh high stockings, and the heels?"
"Well if that's the way he feels comfortable dressing it's not like I can really complain."

I only saw this fic today, and I must say...

Time to see what Osmond needs Louise for then. But damn, can't wait for the next chapter! :D

Well, there's a couple of things that help there. For one, Derflinger is more on the gross messer side of the scale than the kriegsmesser. But I'm going to call him a war knife any way... admittedly because I think it's cooler. For another, and I usually don't tell people about my stealth edits, Louise is bigger than 1,50. Yeah. When I started thinking swords and Louise, I, well, I realized exactly what you're describing. Louise swinging around a two-handed great-sword (compared to her) will be a lot of fun, but I want to add just a dash of realism there. Then, there's the fact that Dutch and other northern Europeans (Dutch being the only ones I interact with regularly) are really, really tall. I don't know what they feed them but a Dutch woman starts at 1,65-1,70 and goes up to 1,85-1,90. Considering both the Duke and Duchess La Vallière, plus their daughters not named Louise, are around 1,85+ themselves, it's really weird if Louise stays 1,50. No, she's probably at the starting phases of a late teens growth-spurt and when she's 20 she'll be 1,90 (and so goddamn proud of it). So, I'm thinking Louise is almost 1,60 but can't tell herself because: 1) Not her first priority, 2) Everybody's taller than her except Tabitha, 3) Kirche is just that tall at 1,87 and 4) Massive Inferiority Complex and other Self-Esteem Problems.

Speaking of Tabitha, the French aren't exactly small people most of the time either. She's 1,55 and Louise thinks she's 1,40-something.

And on the other, third hand, a certain blacksmith in Tristania is having a fortunate but incredibly weird week.

And as far as I'm concerned Karin wore actual male clothing and has a terrible shiver of premonition run down her spine every time Louise insists on going out riding with breeches instead of a dress. It's like peering into the past...

Ok, now I need to read a story in which Louise either dresses as a man or joins some knight corps or mercenary Company, giving flashbacks about Karin to those who knew her back then, without Louise being aware of that fact. So thanks for that I guess.

Have you factored in what the heights of people in those locations would be in the 17th/18th century? Because the average heights of people changed quite a bit as times changed.

I imagine nutrition is less of an issue in a world where earth and water mages are able to induce crop growth and enrich soil nutrients at will. The nobles of Halkeginia are likely close to modern standards for height. It may be different from the commoners since the feudal system is still in place.

Nopes. Whoops.
But apparently that doesn't matter.
Uh, okay, I'm not complaining.

Regardless, any differences from actual history? Magic. ... no, really. It's all Brimir's fault.

So, is it more likely for Tabitha to confront Louise, (chevalier after all) or for her to begin research to understand what is going on?

Also worth noting the difference was much smaller for nobility IRL anyway. The giant rise in average height in the modern era was mostly from the lower class closing the gap and the middle class coming into existence.

Also I love when "A wizard did it" is a valid excuse. Not being snide I really love seeing it.

I'm really enjoying this, it's funny and happy. And like the only FoZ fic where Louise gets normal casting outside that AU waaay back where Kirche got the Tristain Void (through a Valliere ancestor somewhere back in her family tree) and Louise was a fire mage and already second to her mother (but still way behind her) in Tristain.

Then Kirche summoned her.

Anyone else know of good fics where Louise got regular magic either in addition to or in place of the Void?

And how is Wardes gonna react when he finds out it appears Louise doesn't have the Void?

One more note on the height changes. Apparently, a certain swedish prince back in the... I'm not even sure, 1600s? Was referred to as a "Strapping tall young man" at the impressive height of 160cm.

Of course, there are a bunch of potential watsonian reasons especially for the local nobility to be of modern height.
