"I, Dareios, wish to propose a motion that we'll make Kerkyra pay for The Wall! Partially atleast."

[X] Let us send our xenoparakletor to Metapontion. We need allies among the Greeks, and if we do not get them we will be diplomatically isolated, relying only on Kerkyra and a pack of barbaroi. Not to mention we can hear more about the state of Greek Italia and Sicily.

[X] It is true that we need money for stone walls, but what kind of protection can we expect to have if we neglect the Gods? Poseidon can send a quake and break stone, Zeus can strike the city with a bolt of lightning, Athene can smash the gates and break down the walls. We must honor the gods or perish. [-30 talents, can be paid next year if you decide to build something].

[X] Don't Build Anything and wait to get money for the stone wall!

They are an unknown quantity and we must secure some kind of assurance from them of peace or else go to war.

*Bryzos the Psiloi has come up once again, bringing his trusty speaking rock with him to the ekklesia*

Good morning everyone! How are you folks today!

I, Bryzos the Psiloi, has come once again to cast my vote for today!

I support paying the whole debt on behalf of the temple because the way I see it, the former seer has transformed the debt from one of a mortal to another mortal into one of the gods to a mortal by being made in the name of the temple!

So if we pay the debt on behalf of the gods...then the gods would be indebted to us! And that means we will be owed blessings!

The gods will owe us blessings!

As for where the xenoparakletor should go, I propose we should have him visit our neighbors first! After all, we should get our home and neighborhood in order first before we look abroad!

And as for what we should construct, I support the fishing jetty! For if more men have jobs then the city will have more money!

That is all!

*Bryzos the Psiloi steps down from his speaking rock, and goes home with it while thinking of how well his 8 year old son throws rocks at small targets with his hands.*

Technically yes, we can afford to pay their debts and then the wall, but it will leave us with ~3 talents in treasury, so we will have to dip into Sacred one if any emergency happens, which is bad.

Also, @Cetashwayo , didn't you mention a set of separate decisions that comes with the wall? Will we have enough to afford those if we pay temple debts?

[X] We cannot spend any more talents right now! The money can come later, but for the moment we absolutely must have enough money to fund the expense of stone walls. [No talents paid, Timaeus waives interest on the temple debt]

It at least fit with the idea Aesop the Storyteller, another citizen, suggested that in particular they shouldn't be "niggardly" with their subjects, upon which other citizens asked him what that word was, and he shrugged and said he was a storyteller, not a man of words.

You say this, but I see a reason to continue writing flowery and overly effusive words in future speech segments. Aesop will be the Shakespeare of his day!

What should the city build this year?

[1] Olive Farm [120 Talents, takes 1 year to build, will produce five units of Olive Oil after five years] Olive Oil is a valuable trade resource that the city can ship abroad for export.
[4] Fishing Jetty [140 Talents, takes 1 year to build, will produce three units of Salted Anchovies immediately] Salted Anchoves are another trade resource, and a fishing jetty can encourage fishing among citizens, improving the city's naval and merchant tradition.
[0] Temple [130 Talents, takes 2 years to build, will raise the city's reputation and trust among Greeks and strengthen its Civic Tradition by 5].
[0] Stone Theater [130 Talents, takes 2 years to build, will raise the city's reputation and profile and net 30 talents a turn from citizens].
[21] Don't Build Anything and wait to get money for the stone wall!

Total No. of Voters: 26

So people know where we are so far. Still quite a bit of time left.

I feel like people who're voting to pay the debts of the temple have forgotten how often we need to spend money on the best solutions during the events that come up. Sure, we might have enough for the wall right now if we pay the debts but what if we need to spend 25 Talents to resolve some stupid conflict? There's also the fact that 220 is the absolute minimum that a stone wall is going to cost us but Cetashwayo already said that it has the potential to cost more, likely due to additional improvements on the wall. We won't have this wiggleroom if we spend it on paying the debt of the temple.

We have 400 sacred talents? o_O
Gods be damned that money will be more useful in our pocket(and then disease and famine struck and i will be puet from power because they think i anger gods :V)

If (as seems likely) we're sending Kallias to Metapontion, he'll be travelling past Lykai anyway, so laying a case against our dodgy ex seer would seem a sensible addition to the trip, even if we have to pack off a couple of extra people with Kallias to handle it.
Or we get Straton to rendition him to our trireme.

I wonder what Keryka will get up to with the barbarian pirates resurgent.

Hear ye, hear ye! I, Isodorios, the Naval Captain (and part time fisherman) would speak!

It is right and good that Ankaparatos should be thankful to Plutus for his sudden wealth. However, just as Plutus was blinded by Zeus to ensure that he is even handed in the wealth he hands out, so to does his blindness mean that he may, through no fault of his own, provide wealth to the unworthy. Traitors, those who would betray our sacred trust and poor playwrights.

Thus, in recognition of Plutus's evenhandedness I propose to lead a group of citizens who will accompany Kalius to Lykai and ascertain, through pointed questions, the truth of Ankaparatos's great... fortune.

In this matter we may identify the worth of Ankaparatos, and if he is found unworthy we will then petition the citizens of Lykai for redress. For surely, one who would betray the sacred trust is anathema to all good Greeks.

I, Isodorius, propose this. Now who will lift my rock?

Also, my votes:
[X] Send Kalius to Cambodia
[X] Don't build anything
[X]Just accept the waived interest

I would also like to put forth the notion of not making anymore Trump jokes, their getting rather old at this point.

The Gods have shown thier favour to us in the past, but they are fickle. Should we snub them so, they will grant us naught but disaster. And we are Greeks! What manner of Greek neglects his temples! Have we grown so full of hubris that piety is beneath us?

If the tragedy of Taras had anything to teach us Eretrians, it is that we are at the mercy of those who traverse the seas. Our hoplites are rightly feared, and our navy is the stuff of legend. But even legends can be slain or overwhelmed. Let us work to guard our shores, so that the disgrace of Taras remains a cautionary tale, and not a prophecy of things to come.

[X] Stone Theater [130 Talents, takes 2 years to build, will raise the city's reputation and profile and net 30 talentsa turn from citizens].

It would take is thirty talents to assist the temples and mollify the gods, and thirty talents are to be made in theatres. What is this if not a sign from the divines? For are theatres not temples of thier own? In them the gods are honoured, and the essence of hellenism is displayed. For too long our theatres have been a disgrace, a meagre construct of wood befitting only a Barbaroi. It is no wonder that such a pitiful construct could produce nothing but mediocracy.
No, let us cease this affront to Gods and hellens. Let us make a theatre worthy of that description, one where the gods are honoured, and visitors do not regret attending.

So spoke Miltiades the shepherd, before he left once more to care for his flock.
