I don't have a great way to stop her beyond cheating with invisibility to beat her up, and frankly that's going to tank our ability to ever make friends, and of course she's gonna be one of our allies.

[X] Intervene. (You're terrified, but this is indirectly your fault. You may be a little late to the meeting with Midori, but maybe if you can use your ghostly invisibility to throw Hotaru off, you can stop her from killing this other kid. Plus, didn't you face so much worse than her last night…?)

lets just ignore and hope it doesn't go too badly. we can't really afford to be late, and their isn't much we can really do that'll have a good effect.

A girl like that could probably kick our undead ass so badly we'd wind up double-dead. And besides, we were just doing our job. It's not our fault that her desk happened to be the one to get scuffed up. We have a prior commitment, and even if we'd technically be doing the right thing by intervening, I don't feel like it's really our business to do so.

But maybe...

What the fuck is wrong with you people?

This stinks of "if you intervene, you will end up missing your meeting, tanking the relationship you are trying to build." It will drag on a bit too long, or something will happen.

So someone's life is a good exchange for a relationship? I repeat: What the fuck is wrong with you people?

The fuck makes you think someone's going to die? I admit to being somewhat worried that this will go past bruising, since she did hospitalize people who attacked her. On the other hand, she hospitalized only some of the people who actively started by attacking her instead of all of them, and I highly doubt she's insane enough to go that far on someone who merely caught her attention while she's angry.

My problem is it'd be trading one MG for another, at best...And that's, yanno assuming we don't truly tank things with Greenie, I don't think cowering boy is actually in danger of dying, though he is certainly going to hurt.
Bigger problem is we can't talk, so intervention is going to be less 'someone holding her back' and more 'OMG SOME INVISIBLE FORCE IS ATTACKING HER!?!' which...
Yeah that'd be a distinct problem.

Why should we care? We got stuff to do.

This girl is extremely unlikely to actually kill him.

I'm too soft. on the one hand, you can't help everybody. On the other, that never stopped me from trying... Besides, pulling the fire alarm is one way we can 'fix' the situation and move on. Surely there are others?

Edit: new vote

In the end, I think I'd rather read about a protagonist who'd help here.

[X] Indirectly Intervene (Pull the fire alarm; it should be a good distraction to Hotaru without making you late.)

Your sacrifice shall not be in vain random NPC.

Hmmm I guess we could manifest for a second and say, "Actually an evil ghost did it" and then disappear. That wouldn't take too long as we make sure to not stop and chat or anything.

Unless Spoopy okays a write-in that'll ensure minimal delay (like we toss the desk between them as a surprise poltergeist or the aforementioned fire alarm idea or something).

I think maybe we should... chill a bit? Like, I also honestly don't think this character is going to die if we don't intervene. This isn't a situation where it can be be logically assumed anybody would kill anybody else, she hasn't shown herself to be a cold-blooded murderer willing to kill people on a whim. Literally the only real reason we have to think that it's going to escalate that far as that it's in the choice text

> Intervene. (You're terrified, but this is indirectly your fault. You may be a little late to the meeting with Midori, but maybe if you can use your ghostly invisibility to throw Hotaru off, you can stop her from killing this other kid. Plus, didn't you face so much worse than her last night…?)

Like this reads a lot more like an IC colloquialism to me rather than "holy shit she's going to actually commit murder." So, like, having "you people are condoning murder" as a point in the dialogue isn't going to really help or convince anyone.

Now that having been said, this thus doesn't necessarily come down to "do will allow somebody to be murdered" but the more broad "how high of a bar do we need to have before we intervene, and what sacrifices are we willing to make to do so."

And honestly I think this is a debatable point. This is somebody that we actually don't know, we're going to probably end up sacrificing something, and there's a good chance we're not going to win a direct confrontation anyway. Like the main reason that I think this isn't a good precedent to be setting isn't even that those are inherently bad reason to not intervene (Though I think "we're going to be late" is maddeningly superficial), but the fact that this is our fault, if not intentionally. Helping people in itself is important, but it's especially important when on some level this is our responsibility. To just walk away from this is setting the precedent that our character is not only willing to back off from situations where people are in danger, but cases where it was basically our fault to begin with. I don't think that's a good look or a good direction to go.

I'd be happy with a non-interventionalist fire alarm write-in though if it can gain momentum.
