[X] Plan Monsters and Mysteries

Don't want Yakuza.... so this option it is!

Yeah, as interesting as exploring a Mafiadoka scenario could be, I feel like there's enough genre-stretching stuff going on as it is. Changing my vote to
[X] Plan Monsters and Mysteries

Stepping outside of the vote for a second:

How do we see ourselves working the role of Magical girl?

Personally I'm seeing us being the Veteran that actually runs the team. Or the team leader that doesn't have a civilian life.

Also a tendency to be a teenager when it comes to her ghost status.

Yeah, as interesting as exploring a Mafiadoka scenario could be, I feel like there's enough genre-stretching stuff going on as it is.

Truthfully I see it as less genre stretching as it is the city being on fire.

Guess that depends on how we relate with the other girl, and any other potential joiners. We were the first to contract, it seems, even if only by a couple hours, which gives us a bit of an advantage (especially if we don't tell them about the 'two hours' bit) in terms of authority. On the other hand, since we're going with the whole 'mysterious' archetype and seem to be a bit of a loner (RIP tabletop gaming) we may wind up in more of a support position than direct leadership? Like, we're probably the Homura or Tougou to someone's Madoka or Yuuna.

Guess it'll depend on what Ghost wants to do, and how much we get to choose how to handle that sort of thing.

Truthfully I see it as less genre stretching as it is the city being on fire.
Well, I meant less in the other scenarios and more in terms of the basic premise; the intersection of ghosthood with magical girl tropes is pretty unique on its own, so throwing in Mafia shenanigans on top of that doesn't really feel... necessary? For lack of a better word.

For all we know, some missions could be solitary, or a team could be cobbled together from the girls available at the moment (who would be doing their own missions and have their own schedule). It's hard to establish leadership in a team if there's no team.

With the combination of traits we have (ghost, mysterious) I envision ourselves more of a loner/independent actor teaming up with others for a short while whenever it is prudent and then going our way.

I mean, most magical girl series (aimed at actual children, I mean) have the team be friends who also happen to be magical girls, and so they just happen to be together hanging out when bad stuff happens. So it's not really a sort of superhero team management thing, as much as just getting friends to hang out with, and then considering their qualifications for magic.

Occasionally this is flipped around, but that usually takes the form of one or more of the existing magical girls wanting to befriend the loner/outsider, and having them be a magical girl as a secondary goal.

Which means the best way to recruit is to go haunt one of our best friends in our life, and cajole them into joining up as a way to easily communicate with us.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm just casually tossing out ideas as they come to mind. I don't want to look like I'm trying to dictate how this quest goes.

I just really like magical girls (for kids) and geek out at every opportunity to discuss them.

Inserted tally. A tie once again, so once again using the dice. Even for Maximum Masochsim, odd for Monsters and Mysteries.

1H - Starting Monster
"Well, there's a lot going on," the stranger admits, glancing to one side. "And it's been hard to keep up with it, with numbers diminished as they are. So far we've identified four potential brewing incidents in this region; it's possible some of them may be interrelated, but for now there seems to be little connection. And then on top of that, there's been the thefts…"

"Thefts?" You ask.

"Ah, well, that's elsewhere; not our concern. For now, there's enough on our plate as it is. People vanishing, while others have clones appear, suspicious tremors under the city, and monsters showing up. That last item is the current incident, actually; we've managed to isolate and cover up the first two instances, but with a proper magical girl on the field it should be considerably easier to handle, even with your current level of inexperience. Have to have a starting monster somewhere, right?"

"Uh… sure." Nervousness suddenly grips you, and you idly wonder if you should do some research on this stuff. Your Voyager Kairi recollections are frustratingly vague...

"Anyway, I won't waste your time any longer; let me take you there." They wave a limb at the sidewalk, and as before, a door and frame rise up out of it, this time with a push-bar rather than a knob.

Stepping through, you find yourself in the middle of an empty sloping city street, somewhere downtown. Skyscrapers surround you, along with a parking garage nearby. In an intersection at the top of the hill is a hulking figure backlit by streetlights, while down at the bottom near you is another teenage girl wearing a green dress and wielding a strangely-angled tool. Aside from the two of you and the monster, the place seems deserted, but you wonder if there may be a few overnight workers around; a handful of windows in the towering buildings are still lit.

What will you do?

Computer access has been limited this past week, thus the delay and brevity. Next week should permit a return to the regular MWF schedule.

[X] Transform and talk to the other girl
- [X] Transform while standing in front of her.

[X] Transform and attack right away
May as well get the fight out of the way first, right? Then worry about social afterwards. I'm hesitant to go full leeroy jenkins, but hanging back and doing nothing seems like kind of a sketchy option, too...

Honestly I disagree with this tactic as the monster is there at the top of the hill. Let's not surprise the magical girl at the bottom of the hill when there's a monster within a hundred feet max.
And you don't think the monster will be surprised as well?

And you don't think the monster will be surprised as well?

Given the description of said monsters...

Human civilians have recently been turning into monsters at random. The incidents have been covered up and they can be turned back to normal, but someone still needs to do the legwork to save them from themselves and figure out why this is happening.

I'm somewhat doubtful that they are aware enough to be surprised. I'm thinking instinctual werewolf/shambling monster. You know since they aren't screaming in terror or hiding.

Remind me again - can we interact with objects as a ghost?

Write in option -
[X] Plan Scout and Report Back ... or move to intercept/save
-[x] As a ghost approach the monster to get a closer look.
-[x] Observe details, and then go back to the magical girl to share what we've learned.
-[x] Feel free to introduce yourself, but if you don't need to transform don't. Being a ghost is basically free invisibility.
-[x] If during this phrase of operations either side goes to attack - transform and support the magical girl.

[X] Observe for now, transform if it becomes necessary

Better to spend some time seeing how these things work before just jumping in, particularly if we want to have the mysterious thing going for us.

[X] Transform and talk to the other girl

Are we even sure it's a monster and not this girl pet/familiar/summoned creature for sniffing out monsters? :V

[X] Observe for now, transform if it becomes necessary

We need to wait to enter the battle until it's suitably dramatic, that's just common sense!
