Magical Girl Home Base Quest

Calypso needs gear. So we want either wand or trinket, but we can build stronger trinkets. It's a bit weird because wands are listed as the main offensive tool, without which MGs are toothless, but many of the examples given of trinkets in the info post have some manner of offensive power.

I have no idea if a level three trinket is better for combat then a level one wand, but I'm willing to bet that it is.

No matter if we make a trinket or wand, we definitely need to sell it to Calypso though. She has no abilities outside of her gear, and right now has no gear.

Do we have space for Baldur's Babe yet?

Edit: Bane, Bane, I meant Bane!

I think we should stick to what we're best at.

Um...
"Alright so there's a lot of ways to make a magical girl," Homer said, pacing. "Which I figured out because holy shit, Trompdoy will not shut up and can hold a conversation across the hotel because magic. Anyway, lots of magical girls use bounded fields with themselves as the anchor. It's how a lot of their tricks work: bottomless pouches, costume changes, superlasers, whatever. There's a non-zero number of Skill type girls though who's skill relies on a field bounded into their bodies. Break that field, and I have no fucking idea what happens next."
Uhhhh...
The rest of the table stared at her. "I thought you were a skill-girl like the rest of us." Trissa finally said, blinking.

"I was literally an old homunculus before I oopsed into a soul!" Calypso yelled. "I left that dump with a lantern sword, a pistol, and a Molotov; and since then all of it's been broken! I literally have two hands and some orisons and that's it!"
Is it just me misunderstanding the explanation, or was a perfectly viable user right there? Especially someone who was in need of gear?

Wands are a sword, trinkets are a shovel. One's a lot better at killing people than the other, but both of them still put people in the ground when you apply them to someone's head. The thing about trinkets is that they also have a shitload of other applications, either through inbuilt abilities or spellcraft. One example worth mentioning is you can't fly with a Wand, unless you make a Wand that only lets you fly.

Oh no, you're understanding it correctly. You're just not understanding how insanely valuable a wand is. Trompdoy would, at present moment, rather stab Eowyn over letting this wand out of her possession. Good equipment is literally more rare than gold, or good housing, or any other material good you'd care to name. Twenty grand was chump change for this sort of thing, her life savings pissed away in one purchase, and it was entirely worth it.

@7734

Err... what happened to expanding our building for the other new girl?

Didn't we vote to get a new room?

The Spreadsheet says there is one vacancy, but does not list any room that is vacant.

I meant the scroll Homer made. From how it read, Calypso would be assuredly unaffected by it.

So, everyone seems to be voting for wands, but I'm going to make a case for the Trinket. Yes, it's less killy then a wand. But we can make a tier 3 trinket, compared to only a tier 1 wand. The higher quality will make it more killy, making up some of the difference, at least. Furthermore, Trinkets have a lot of other applications besides just shooting things.

Finally, and most importantly, being tier 3 means it'll last 3 times as long. Whichever girl (I vote Calypso) buys that trinket, is going to have power for a long-ass time.

A really good utility tool can add a lot, probably more net effectiveness than a mildly janky wand.

Well, now I feel guilty. They do know that our equipment has a super low shelf life, right?

Can I please reiterate that improving our workshop once should allow us to double the durability of everything we make?

Unfortunately, our local MGs need more firepower before a Witch fortifies a whatever-it's-called and therefore makes the entire area much more dangerous.

Fair enough. It appears I skimmed the update.

I'm just getting very antsy about the workshop.

I'll note this would also be a decent time for a Bomb, if we want one, but I'd rather use our specialty.

By the sound of it the girls will all be working together, at least for the immediate future. In which case being pure utility isn't suicidally crippling for Calypso.

From my understanding, trinkets have a variety of applications, and they're not necessarily offensive. For example, MC previously made a trinket that protected Trissa from spells but not physical attacks. I'd rather give Calypso a wand so that she's sure to have something to fight with.

Too bad about Mistletoe. Here's hoping she can either wait another week or find another place to live.

We just made (and sold) a Bomb. A Nuke, even.

Bombs are inherently consumed on use. They're not worth the time to make them right now, where no one has the base equipment they need. Bombs can win one fight, whereas wands and trinkets can win fights until they break.

I get the economics of it. But when we're specifically looking to arm up for a boss fight? That's exactly what you'd want a Bomb for.

You'll note I didn't vote for building one, it was just an idle comment.

If we specialized in bombs, or if we had taken that upgrade at the very beginning that doubled all bombs, then I'd be for it. As it is, unless our construction speed gets up fast enough that we can make more equips then the local girls need (ha) bombs are not a great use of time.
