Life With the Ship Girls, or, How I Learned How to Stop Worrying and Love the Polygamy

An idea occurred to me during my first shift today for a possible new WoWs game-mode, for those still more interested in that aspect of the RP rather than general slice-of-life/lewd-mai-waifu.

CONVOY DEFENCE (a purely opt-in game-mode)
A rectangular map, scattered with small islands, with an anchorage at each corner. At the match's start, AI-controlled Liberty Ships and tankers aligned with Blue Team start leaving one anchorage and proceeding towards an anchorage at the opposite corner. Blue Team has to defend the merchies while Red Team tries to kill them.
Scores for both teams start at '0'. Blue Team scores normal Domination point-values for each warship kill; each freighter that makes it across the map and moors at the destination is worth 20 points, each tanker is worth 40 points. Conversely, Red Team scores points for each warship or merchantman sunk. The match ends when one side reaches 1000 points or when the last merchie sinks/moors; the spacing and speed of the merchies mean that the match can be as long as 45 minutes.
WRINKLES:
» Twenty players per side. Player names are visible in the loading screen, but their deployed ship is not visible to the other team until they first sight that ship.
» Two of each side's CV players are assigned to their side's home-anchorage island, losing the mobility of being a ship for heavy recon-bombers (Condors, Catalinas, Sunderlands, Emilys etc.), medium torpedo/level-bombers (He-111s/B-25s/Mosquitos or Beaufighters/Bettys etc.) in place of their carrier TBs, and shore-batteries/AA/defensive abilities like a battleship, a cruiser and a destroyer combined. You can't torpedo the airbases, but you can bomb/burn them to death/uselessness.
» Red Team spawns are semi-randomly distributed between their home anchorage and the opposite corner, though the MM won't break up divisions.
» Merchies that reach the destination remain valid targets until the last ship arrives/sinks. An anchorage full of ships is fish-in-a-barrel for warship captains who can reach attack position.

Thoughts, comments?

====================

And as to a player profile in this? PettyOfficerRalston is one Neal Stevenson, mid-forties, single, middle-manager for a food company in New Zealand and a borderline miltaku in his off-hours, almost aggressively ordinary in every way. (I'm not really angling for waifu shenanigans with the shipgirls.)

How the hell did she get a tank?

She also likes explosions and guns. Astrid's the one responsible for the 1:1 scale replica of an E-100 that currently resides at the ARADIA building's garage.

Basically what happened is that the entire engineering department at ARADIA went out for drinks, got absolutely smashed, and then reenacted Girls und Panzer with scratchbuilt WW2 tanks.

Mike totally didn't leave the Girls Und Panzer Blueray disk in their lab, no sir!

In World of Warplanes the was inside test of game mode about escorting/hunting AI bombers. Nobody liked it. Do you like escort missions in other games? Practically nobody likes them.

Now, about possible gamemodes in general.
1. Incoming in 0.4.1 - Ranked Battles. Matchmaking by skill. I'm seriously hope it here to stay, because people wanted it from beta of WoT.
2. Attack/Defence mode - From WoT - only one side has a base, other has to capture it or sink all enemy ships.
3. Steel Hunt (Free For All) - event mode from WoT - 5 lives, respawn. I think can be modified to play by tier: you select five ships of the same tier and go to battle. Also special abilities when you do enough damage ( Artillery Strike and Airstrike in WoT, something different in WoWs (Submarine attack?))
4. Capture the flag - also with 5 lives respawn and 4 flags/4 bases .

IDEA: 5. Shore Bombardment: based on domination from WoWp, instead of capturing bases, landmasses filled with destructible objects, witch give your team points for it's destruction.

6. Persistent map idea that started Clusterfuck

7. Clanwar modes with static installations and special consumables (see Steel Hunt for WoT examples). Also base-building.

8. BIG MAP concept from WoT: 30х30 battles on even bigger maps.

Hence the clear caveat about participation being strictly voluntary/opt-in. ;) But yeah, it'd be a major turn-off to the puggies and short-attention-span crowd, so I can see it getting nixed during development, possibly after a brief and disastrous public beta-test. :(

Those do sound promising. I'll turn them over in my head and see what fits with the sketch-outline I have for my next snippet.

In WoT game modes aside from basic two bases random battle is strictly voluntary so it's kinda by default.

Speaking of disastrous public beta-test - maybe in WoWs historical battles will have more success than in WoT, but i think it will be NOT popular among kanmusu, due to PTSD fodder.

I'm not familiar with english game slang, what "puggies" means exactly?

'Pick-Up Gamers' — I think they're also known as 'randoms'. People who play alone or in small groups, usually whenever or wherever they feel like it, looking to play the game more for a quick bit of fun than as a structured hobby or sport. Their fundamental skills, planning, and willingness to play as a team are usually wildly variable, so they're often highly unpredictable in their tactics and typically ineffectual against teams with a more 'professional' approach.
I'm a PUGgie, and so is my character in this RP, partly because I/he just don't have the time, money or inclination to spend multiple hours a day/night playing a computer game, no matter how fun.

By 2022 game is around for 7 years, even if you casual player (more common term for this behaviour, in my experience) if you started playing from release than you pretty much opened and buyed everything you wanted by this point.

@Icywinter - maybe you repost and bookmark here timeline posted in Clusterfuck OOC?

That thing is incomplete, for starters, and secondly, my guy is from a seperate timeline, which is… meta to say the least.

Anyway, In my headcanon at least, the shipgirls remember what happened in their past 'ship' life (Hachi is especially ashamed of what 'she' -- her crew -- had forced her to do, despite numerous people telling her that she was not at fault), but for the vast majority of them, it doesn't carry the emotional baggage as their current 'kanmusu' memories.

For them, while they may have been present at some of the most defining moments of the Pacific War, they don't have the same emotional connection as the human crewmen that had lived through them. For others, like Taihou, Bismarck, Hood, Shigure, and Yukikaze, their memories have a vivid and powerful emotional connection, though for the vast majority of these rare individuals, their memories are connected to how they had sunk in their previous life.

For example, Erika still has a phobia of getting her rudder getting jammed, and Hood is often concerned about her ammunition stores blowing up when in battle. (As a side effect, she has over a thousand of those ammo rack nullification flags on her World Of Warships account). Taihou doesn't like getting hit in her fuel tank. And so on and so forth. Shigure and Yukikaze are both affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and in Shigure's case, it was brought about by the countless deaths she was witness to while part of Nishimura's fleet. Yukikaze has Survivor's Guilt on top of her PTSD, because of how many people during her past life viewed her as a bad omen, and how some shipgirls talk of how she seems to 'steal' everyone else's luck.

Being Shigure is suffering. Though she later married San Diego, much to the latter's surprise. c:

And despite all of the despair-inducing things they both faced, they remain happy in the face of such sadness. Thus, they are incapable of falling into despair and becoming witches. Which is why Kyubey can't make contracts with them. :3

Hora~
I see you moid.

You know what? I'm going for a hard reset. I have snippets lying around, collecting dust. Good snippets. Im'ma do a copy/paste job here at some point, and entrust the Kongou to another me.

On the topic of these gay marriages.... It makes me feeling conflicted since of all the things that could go wrong *I was forced to be on the side that wanted gay marriage to be illegal. Ended as well as you would think.*

By 2020, the majority of the Western world countries have legalized gay marriage due to a UN mandate headed by the shipgirls Aoba, Yamato, and Enterprise.

Also because I truly believe in a free love future and I don't understand why humans like to punish people for fitting into made up categories that they don't like.

In my honest opinion gay marriage will help more than it will hurt, but the negatives will be rather punishing regardless. Can't remember the specifics, but it was enough to make me think twice about saying GAY MARRIAGE ALL THE WAY.

I don't want to start very off-topic discussion, but i REALLY don't get why people feel the need to inform government about their relationship.
