Lex Mechanica

Would it help if I change the skittari police action to a civilians one? I think I'm ok with changing that. Might have to check in with everyone else though.

The immigration one isn't as flexible though.

It would help yeah, though I don't think police is exactly what we need either. The issue isn't the amount of skull cracking, it's much more specific monitoring and investigating for a few kind of foreign infiltration. A task force dedicated to investigating xenos and chaos in general which would apply to mutants influenced by them but also to the rest of our population maybe?

What the CoJ has found worries me. Even it's a bit inefficient, I would like to focus on bookkeeping first then follow up with more immigration.

I don't see how abhumans and regular mutants moving in because we're more tolerant is a problem. We really need immigration as a developing colony. I don't mind setting up standards of screening but we really need to keep the amount coming in high to develop.

  • [X] Plan: Continued Glorious Governance
    - [X] Party: Seekers of the Omnissiah
    - [X] Coalition: Yes: The Lighthouse of Humanity, The Bearers of the Beacon, Adeptus Sustainus, Warriors of the Machine God
    - [X] 1: Vassalize, subjugate, integrate, or destroy the remaining independent xeno tribes
    - [X] 2: Study the Dren both psycher and regular to discover more of their nature and how it can be utilized
    - [X] 3: Give legal equality to mutants and abhumans inside our territory, if this cannot pass coalition at least attempt to raise their standing
    - [X] 4: research into our rising mutant population, finding both how to cure them and how to utilize those mutations which are more useful left as is.
    - [X] 5: Gladly accept the offers of the space marines, Valhallans, and the inquisitor, give them anything they desire and try to keep their eyes away from our more radical works
    - [X] Outreach: The Seeker's works have brought the eyes of the emperor's angels themselves! It is because of our works and our policy and creations that led to such holiness being visited apon our world!
[X] Plan: Burn the Grox- eat the Grox!
    -[X] Party: Adeptus Sustainus
    -[X] Party represents: Logi, Artisans
-[X] Coalition: Yes to all parties so long as they are not increasing importation or reliance on external entities for resources
-[X] 1: Reach out to the Genetors and see if we can apply the "Burning witch root" to domesticated Grox, such that we may bolster our food production and cut down on imports via self-regenerating slabs of meat.
-[X] 2: Begin segmenting portions of the 'Forgeworld' as it is into 'Districts.' Each District is to ensure that they are at minimum, capable of powering and feeding their entire District at all times without reliance on other Habblocks, such that in the event of Insurrection/Heresy/Dreno attacks, the Habblock is able to sustain itself should it be isolated, whether from siege or some sort of disaster.
-[X] 3: Accept General Gaius Manorvitch's offer in trialing Saturnite weapons, however, ensure that we have tech-priests present to oversea the trial (both to ensure they are used properly and to see how they can be improved), AND, have our tech-priests intricately examine the training batch of Saturnite Weapons BEFORE their arrival, to ensure that they are in perfect working order. As for the 'Blood Leopards Chapter,' Reach out to the 'Warriors of the Machine God' (who focus on military matters), and proceed with their cross-training approach, with the additional addendum that Tech Marines being trained at the Forgeworld are also required to aid in the defense of the Forge City, given that we'll be outfitting them with equipment and letting them use our facilities. As for the Inquisitor, comply with their request, we do not yet have the political capital to contest the demands of an Inquisitor. Rather, the party shall instead supply the Inquisitor with a healthy tithe of captured non-vassalized Dren, with said Dren being both sadated and under guard during the transfer. Ensure that our Tech Priests intricatly examine the saturnite equipment being delivered to the Inquisitor, we can't risk being seen as insufficient in the eyes of an Inquisitor. Should the tithed Dren ever be returned to the Forgeworld by the Inquisitor-- they are to be exterminated such that no knowledge of what lies beyond the Forgeworld reaches their ears.
-[X] 4: Begin the construction of several deep-bore mines, and attempt to gain access to any rare metals/minerals that may be deep beneath the surface, such that mineral importation can be reduced
-[X] 5: Begin consolidating a series of ledgers to take an accounting of the Forgeworld's production, such that any deficits or drops in production can be preempted before the forge runs into critical shortages of materials.
-[X] Outreach: The party will reach out to the Chaff— ie, the Menials, and attempt to provide basic 'rituals' on how to best conserve the resources of the Forgeworld, and thus, reduce importation and make it more sustainable. Such 'rituals' include (but are not limited to) allowing the Machine-spirits to 'rest' when not needed— taking a load off of the powergrids, and 'rituals' regarding the reuse of scrap metal such that nothing the Forgeworld produces goes to waste.
    [X] Plan: Security Focus
-[X] Party Name: Bearers of the Beacon
-[X] Party Represents: The Magi, Chaff
-[X] Ideology: The kinder side of the Mechanicus would call them dreamers. The majority calls them fools. Simpletons that ignore data and numbers for intangible results. They are the ones who see the galaxy around them and ask "Why?". They are the ones who weren't satisfied with the answers that the Mechanicus were giving to mankinds' woes and sorrows.
    -[X] Coalition:
    --[X] Yes:
    ---[X] Radical
    --[X] No:
    ---[X] None
-[X] 1: Accept all three deals with the interest parties. For the Valhallan General, assign some techpriests so they can properly test and use the equipment. Make sure that no blame falls on our head if the Saturnite weapons underperforms. For the Tech-Marine, figure out what exactly they want us to teach future tech-marines along with what equipment the Chapter needs. Speaking of which, look into the Blood Leopards chapter and find out why they're on bad terms with Mars. If relations are as bad as some of us fears, then there's a good chance that Mars will start harassing us just to fuck with the Blood Leopards. Lastly, figure out which Drens is better to send to the Inquisitor. On one hand, taking subjects from our vassals could strain relations between us. On the other hand, having hostile Drens find out about Chaos and bringing that knowledge back will absolutely fuck us.
-[X] 2: Set up a department that oversees the immigration into the forgeworld. While it's useful that people are willing to drop off perfectly good human capital for free, it also represent a open door for hostile actors to slip in and cause havoc. We need to make sure that doesn't happen. Otherwise it gives a good reason for the Inquisition and orthodox factions to nose around into our business.
-[X] 3: Push for abhumans to be properly recognized for their deeds and actions in our forgeworld. If they're recognized by the Omnissiah and properly carry out our Order's will, why should they be shunned? Use this as a stepping stone to start help with the mutants gaining recognition.
-[X] 4: Set up an internal security branch of the Skittari. Even with the distance from the broken Hive Fleet, there's still a chance of Genestealer cults setting up on our planet. If they can get a foothold on our world and damage us, it can set back any abhuman and mutant rights for generations. This can not happen.
-[X] 5: Research and implement the possible uses of Saturnite into industrial equipment.
-[X] Outreach: Take up teaching positions in the educational institutes.

-[X] 1: Cooperate with General Gaius Manorvitch of Valhalla, Tech-Marine Barbus Sychel of the Blood Leopards, and Inquisitor Evallin of Ordo Xenos. None of the requests are from traitors nor do they interfere with growth of the Forge.
-[X] 2: Begin construction of a new factorium to increase the Saturnite supply. We are the only producers and now have weapons, initial orders, and space industry in place, it is important we have a good supply ready.
-[X] 3: Expand the space dock so more manufacturing can be done and the mining we do in space can also be processed there.
-[X] 4: Establish a second Forge City on Sidonia.
-[X] 5: Begin consolidating a series of ledgers to take an accounting of the Forgeworld's production, such that any deficits or drops in production can be preempted before the forge runs into critical shortages of materials.
-[X] Outreach: Gather funds to create a party owned mining vessel that will slowly product resources. We will use it as the core of our space forces to build out own orbital station that will be the home base of our faction.

-[X] 4: Begin construction of heavy chemical industries on Sidonia for the production of prometheum, fertilizers, and chemical weapons.
-[X] 5: Order some deceased Tyranid sample from Hive Fleet Behemoth for our Genetors to study.
-[X] Outreach: Expand our influence with the Genetor and Organicist Tech-Priests by organizing meetings and collaborative projects with them.

-[X] 3: Build dedicated Saturnite ammo factories for export purposes.
-[X] 4: Mandate the creation of a forge complex dedicated to the production of Electrostatic Gauntlets.
-[X] 5: Establish a second Forge City on Sidonia.
-[X] Outreach: Preach to the masses of the utility of the Calculus.
    [X] Plan: All Skitarii Party
-[x] Party Name: Warriors of the Machine God
-[x] Party represents: Chaff (Skitarii), martial priests of all stripes (Auxilia Myrmidon, Electro-Priests, etc.), Pro-Democracy everyones
-[x] Coalition: Yes, all democratic parties who are willing to advance and strengthen the military
-[x] 1.Accept the proposal of the Blood Leopards, in exchange for our Skitarii being able to cross train with these prospective Tech-Marines, improving the strenght and knowledge of both sides. Be open towards the other requests to allow more coalition arrangements as we do not care about them.
-[x] 2. Further expand the Skitarii, creating stations where Menials are tested and the greatest of them are allowed the honour of being admitted into the Legions, giving them the chance to further rise in stations to true tech priests should they prove their suitability through service. The selection and augmentation process will include oaths of loyality to the democratic foundation of Sidonia and they will be taught to be proud of being the defender of our great and unique planet.
-[x] 3. Develop the theory of the mechanicus further, integrating the superiority of democratic processes, as they allow for cybernetic(hehe) feedback and avoid the foibles of single human errors.
-[x] 4. Take advantage of the battlefields on the moon to allow our troops to bloody themselves, granting them their first fights in a relatively safe enviroment and train to improve themselves
-[x] 5. Investigate the use of the Dren as War-Servitors or auxiliary forces with the right combination of diplomacy, modification and incentives, hoping to make use of their power as stable psykers who can defend against enemy witches
-[x] Outreach: Develop the theory of the mechanicus further, integrating the superiority of democratic processes, as they allow for cybernetic(hehe) feedback and avoid the foibles of single human errors and share it across the military to inspire pride in their role as protectors of democracy
-[x] Ideology: Representing many of the Skitarii and military minded Tech-Priests, the Warriors of the Machine God desire to strenghten Sidonias Legions and using them to the Forge-Worlds advantage. Many a favour can be gained by deploying these great Legions to our allies in the Imperium and the Warriors are determined to ensure these favours they are fighting for end up benefitting them too. In the pursuit of these goals they are generally uncaring about the philosophical divides of the Selanian parliament, letting themselves get courted by any side to best achieve their goals, with experienced Masters of War calculating the exact gains made by moving on the political stage just like they would when fighting their enemies. They view the Steel Cult as ideologes who care more about their squabbles with the Radicals than truly doing their best to advance the cause of the military. Additionally they are not interested in supplying imperial troops over mechanicus ones - the Skitarii are superior to the Imperial Guard after all. Following increases in tension among the mechanicus and suspicions of actors preparing for civil war or foreign intervention, the Warriors have increasingly turned to see themselves as defenders of Democracy on Sidonia, seeing it as the superior alternative to orthodox despotism and arguing that it is the true governance system of the cult as practiced on ancient mars. This has drawn in an increasing number of patriotic supporters of democracy, which has mingled with the existing base of the military to create a new strain of proud Tech-Republicans, fearsome warriors on the battlefield and fierce defenders of democracy, daring anyone to oppose the rightful institution of Sidonian democracy

This will ensure maximum productivity for every workhour, Ave Omnissiah!
-[X] 2: Create a body, invested with the power to determine and prescribe better working safety regulations in order to maintain the health of the Workforce. An Experienced Workforce is a productive Workforce. Ave Omnissiah!
-[X] 3: Institute a system of testing to open up the way into the schools for capable menials and to ease the way from the schools to Tech-Priesthood of the specialization most fitting the pupil.
-[X] 4: Improve and standardize primary education, to ensure everyone a decent grounding and thus a fair chance to join the priesthood.
-[X] 5: prescribe minimal standards in size, quality and services for Housing Units.
-[X] Outreach: Investigate the most pressing concerns regarding the quality of life of the forgeworlds population.

-[X] 3: Cooperate with General Gaius Manorvitch of Valhalla, agree to produce and supply his forces with our best equipment.
-[X] 4: Have trusted Artisans in our weapon design bureau explore better Saturnite use in both armor and ammunition production. Have them also collaborate with the Society of the Living Alloy most capable Genetors to explore the viability of using the newly discovered "Redbark tree sap" as a viable mass produced weapon.
-[X] 5: Construct the first Plasma Reactor of our Forgeworld.

Do we know (roughly) how much oversight the rest of the Imperium presently has on us? Like are we sending back the occasional report to them or do they have liaisons or something hidden on the Forgeworld feeding information back? (I'm moreso wondering how much information is getting out of the Forgeworld)

Time to make the new Tech-Marines feel welcome and at home in Sidonia. To make them Sidonian Tech-Priests serving the Omnissia outside of our Forgeworld.

Infiltrate the Tech part of the only local chapter!

That is certainly one way to spread word of Sidonia and Sidonian ideals beyond the bounds of Sidonia-- an interesting one at that.

Not much, most forge worlds rule themselves as they see fit (unless there's some heresy or other shenanigans going on)
Alright, thanks. Time to 'not' do 'shenanigans' and be ignored.

So essentially Mars has a massive amount of influence to throw around and a Froge World needs to be rather entrenched if they want to say no.
Forge worlds are autocephalous. It's not a centralized institutional church per se. But if you want stuff like access to archeotech, STCs, patterns, political influence, you listen to Mars. Mars also has a seat on the High Lord's of Terra. So if you want access to all that you make sure to keep Mars happy. But you don't *have* to in that if you tell Mars to go pound sand you aren't going to have men with guns kicking in your door.

A lot of forge worlds were founded in the dark ages when warp travel was dangerous and so the forge worlds had no choice but to do their own thing without the oversight of Mars. It was only with the Crusades that Mars was able to reconnect with its far flung colonies. This independence continues to this day.

Could you explain your views a little? Are you saying we should be more radical/make bigger changes? Or do you mean something else?
It's a bit of a joke, a reference to a previous discussion.

There was a 'cordon sanitaire' before, against the Seekers of the Omnissiah; this made even more people vote for them, so that they could rule on their own if no one wanted to form a coalition with them.

Then the Bearers of the Beacon appeared, willing to pact with the Seekers; a more centrist, middle-of-the-road approach between radical change and orthodoxy.

And that's what I meant. Things like common sense, moderation... Those could be dangerous for us, in a setting as grimdark/grimderp as WH40K! :V

Sure, I'm ok with that. Could use some help with the wording though. Like, internal secuirty teams is my first words that comes to mind and that still gives the impression of jackboot thugs.

Genestealer and Chaos cults. However, now that I think about it, those can be other immigrants that look normal. So I guess a general screening for all immigration works. We just have to make sure it applies to both legal and illegal immigration. Do you think we can tie that into your idea of having a task force investigating xenos and Chaos?

Genestealers can pretend to be mutants because mutants are attacked and ostracized and pushed to the fringes of society. They don't get medical checkups. Meaning that when genestealers show up they don't get caught and are allowed to fester like a societal infection being allowed to grow because you don't ever look at your foot.

Here, mutants aren't a big deal. They can keep or ignore their mutations as they prefer but they won't get ostracized. If you have a mutant baby, you aren't going to be declared a pariah, and forced to flee into the underhive to avoid having your child killed. Or if you emerge from the underhive to see a doctor you won't be attacked for having a mutation.

This means that if genestealers arrive we are more likely to catch them because the *only* reason people have to avoid medical checkups is because something nefarious is going on. By making abhumans and mutations acceptable in public we reduce the excuses a genestealer cult can offer for why they are hiding.

Etc cetera censeo, not every party against the Seekers is orthodox. The Seekers reckless strain of radicalism is also pushing away other radical parties. (Like this turns plank to research psykers without any mention of securitmeasures)

Paranormal bureau of investigation ? :V

Stress investigation more than enforcement I guess. Not that the FBI is the kindest entity but we're imperials, there's only so nice it'll get. And it's basically what we're building.

Yeah it's basically the same job isn't it? Just, applied to immigrants rather than existing residents. We can make the agency do it while ramping up immigration openings. Maybe even provide shipping for it. Which conveniently means everyone is in one place to be tested!

I don't think there's much call for illegal immigration if we're not rejecting legal immigrants except on corruption grounds.

I've been messing around google traslate for a name for the org. How about Omnibus Videntibus Oculis? I believe it's the direct translation for "All-Seeing Eye". It also nicely abbreviates to OVO.

turn 6 - 760M41 Election result : Move along and pass the ammunition

Once again, election time comes to Sidonia. Data-smiths work tirelessly, securing connections and verifying the integrity of the Noosphere, while the various data analysts of the forge work to tabulate the results. The tabulations are completed rather quickly, with the Seekers winning re-election, forming a coalition with 60% of the vote.

With the re-election secured, the Fabricator General decides that the first thing he should focus on is the growing conflict on the moon. He orders the Skitarii Legions of the forge to begin a campaign of subjugation against the native Xenos.

The "war" progresses well but slowly, as the dense jungle terrain hinders any swift advance into enemy territory. Punji sticks, rolling rocks, and wooden battering rams litter the jungle floor. Most concerning are the missions sent to scout the "dark lands," an area where our auspex sensors cannot penetrate. There, heavily mutated Drens the size of half a grown man and shamans more powerful in the psyker arts pose a significant threat.

The military leaders of the expedition calculate that by the end of the 8th year, we should control just under 50% of the moon's surface.

In addition to military matters, the Fabricator orders an investigation into the use of burning witch root for our population of Grox. The results are mixed. The root causes the Grox's flesh to balloon to as much as 300% more "area" than a normal animal. However, some problems are discovered. The animals grow restless during the process, as all their senses are magnified to unbearable heights. Some "solutions" are developed. The first is the removal of the Grox's brain, but the root slowly regenerates the brain matter. The other issue is that some properties of the root seem to infuse into the meat of the animal. While weak, the genetors working on the project do not recommend consuming this meat more than twice a week unless the subject has been damaged.

Another project, marking the "first" act of "foreign relations" of the forgeworld, is the acceptance of three contracts issued for our forges. The contract with the Valhallans proceeds without issue. We produce and stock autocannons, tank shells, swords for the officers, and artillery rounds for the raising of the regiment. The strain of the contract is manageable as most of the Saturnite equipment is used as "specialized ammo" rather than standard. Alongside this, some tonnes of dried burning witch root are also sent to supply their medicae with the specialties of our world. The 211th Siege Regiment is expected to be deployed to the Gothic sector in a few Terran years to help deal with Chaotic raiders harassing the sector.

For the Blood Leopards, it's a bit more complicated. Besides equipment for the chapter - Saturnite bolter shells, chain and power swords, etc. - they also wish to train their Tech-Marines on our world. Our probes into the Mechanicus archives reveal that their animosity with Mars stems from several "conflicts," from refusing to send companies to secure expedition sites to priceless relics lining the chapter armory instead of being sent to forge worlds. Their choice of our forgeworld is due to our "Oddity"; the mixing of several forgeworld personnel means that while we don't possess specific knowledge that makes other forgeworlds powerhouses, we do possess more diverse knowledge.

What they wish for us to teach the aspirants is simple: maintenance, rites, and everything a Tech-Marine might encounter in their job at the chapter forges.

Now the aspirants are showing up in your classes, mingling with the "new" priesthood of Sidonia. Besides excursions to the forest moon to keep their reflexes sharp, they are considered very good students.

The contract with the Inquisitor is the easiest to fulfill. Our excursions into the moon supply us with ample "flavors" for exportation to the Inquisitor. Once the necessary amount of Drens are sent, the inquisitorial entourage simply disappears.

The few Magos Aetherus of your forge are surprisingly pleased with your orders for the study of the xenos psykers, as their knowledge is rarely used in the wider Imperium. Their research reveals some interesting facts: The Drens are not natural, but rather a product of mass biomancy used when their race was in its infancy. There is a high abundance of psy-reactive material in the "dark land," and their psy-rating falls once they are removed from the forest moon, a curious phenomenon.

Their uses, however, are many. Their brains have many applications in the disciplines of the few Magos specialized in the Techno-arcana arts: Warp drives, Gellar fields, psy-out grenades, Vortex ammunition, psy servitors for war and astropathic services, Void shields, and other technologies.

The final order of the Fabricator General is the research into the possibility of creating districts for the forge city. Some problems are encountered, however. The first is that making each district self-sufficient requires the creation of a Genetorium complex and an Agri-complex. The Agri-complex is easily solved by our new discoveries with burning witch root, but the Genetorium presents a problem, as the necessary power requirements of the district are too great for an auxiliary power station to be built there, and there is too little space for a proper Plasma reactor to be installed.

Another development during his reign is the completion of the Orbital Elevator connecting our forge city to the nascent shipyard in orbit, truly a sight to behold.

However, in all this, the other parties did not stand idle.

The Holy Machine Faction builds a small fleet of mining and fabrication vessels for their party, with their mission being the construction of a HQ for their party amongst the stars. Their mission is successful, as they build a small space station in the asteroid belt near the three rocky planets in our system, the first to exploit the riches of the belts.

The Lighthouse of Humanity attempts to learn things from the Space Marines currently inhabiting their world. The result is somewhat disappointing, however, as there's not much that he knows that your lengthy learning at the feet of the Mechanicus has not taught you.

The Illuminated Mechanicus continue their crusade into the education wing of the forge world. They seek to instill the "Sidonian oddities" into the Tech-Marine aspirants. They succeed to a point, however, as the traditions passed down by the Great Angel supersede the lessons our teachers drill into their heads. So some modifications had to be made, such as the sharing of knowledge being inserted into the sharing of blood that the Blood Angels are known for.

The Society of the Living Alloy spends their influence to further entrench themselves into the Genetors of the forge, from those working on the Grox projects to simple Medicae.

The Luminen of the Forsaken Calculus preach to the people on the greatness of Calculus. They find a good audience among the various Logi of the forge, however, other areas of the forge find it a bit strange.

The Warriors of the Machine God further refine their theories of the democratic process. The result of such research is summarized as follows: the ancient parliament of the Mechanicus made the decision to join with the Omnissiah, a great and wise decision, while the iron fist rule that dominated the following decades gave us Kerbor Hall, the vile traitor who created the Dark Mechanicus. Thus, it's clear to all that by giving a voice to the people, the wishes of the Machine God are made manifest.

The Cogs of Justice aid the military campaigns on the forest moon, especially in the capture of the Drens.

The Steel Cult preaches their message to the soldiers in the jungles of the moon. In foxholes or scouting parties, their preachers find a good audience.

The Pandora Device stirs.

In one of the most holy places on the forge, a mighty cathedral, the holy Pandora Device stirs. The attendant of the holy machine quickly sounds the alarm in the Noosphere, and quickly a gigantic congregation assembles at the feet of the machine. Prayers and incense fill the halls of the church as the Machine does the holy work of the Machine God. As quickly as the machine stirred, so does it return to sleep. However, it leaves a piece of the Machine God for His mortal servants to venerate.

On the datapad deposited by the machine, a most holy vehicle is discovered. The machine is designated by the Pandora Device as the "TIE/LN starfighter." The specifications of the vehicle are a marvel. It possesses incredible acceleration using a "Twin Ion Engine," making the common starfighter of the Aeronautica Imperialis seem like a slow tortoise in comparison. It doesn't end there: an incredible solar panel network capable of providing a starfighter with the necessary power supply, an advanced auspex unit, along with an astronavigation suite that made even the most capable ones in Imperial ships green with envy.

The engine also does not possess moving parts, making maintenance incredibly easy. The only downside is the Las-cannons on it. While powerful, they seem to trade raw power for range and have an issue with overheating if fired continuously.

Truly a gift of the Machine God.

The forest runs red: The war on the forest moon continues, but do not lose heart, citizens of Sidonia. The brave forces of the Mechanicus are taking the fight to the Xenos.

His Angels: Some citizens report seeing Astartes in the forgeworld, truly a humbling experience.

Gift of the Machine God: It seems that the Pandora Device has given us a new gift. Celebrations are happening throughout the forgeworld. Deus Mechanicus be Praised.

to Orbit: With the finished touches done the first tons of war material rise from the new elevators to the hungry maws of our army.
