Lesbian and Yuri Anime/TV/Novel/General Discussion Thread

As a comics nerd, it was nice to see physics bite the heroine in the ass.
When she tried to grab the rollercoaster that was in midair, flying off the rails, and got bodied instead? In the trailer, I mean.

Still, looks like an interesting show going off the video above - seems it isn't just the protag who's a hero. I thought she might've been cosplaying as some local idol, or for an advertisement job initially, but it seems to be a superhero setting instead.

Hah~~~ I get second hand embarrassment too easily to be able to watch any of those shy character series.

The new (and potentially last) season of Power Rangers, Cosmic Fury, premiered a couple days ago. It's a direct continuation of the previous series, and as a result Power Rangers first lesbian ranger returned. And her girlfriend became a ranger, so now there are two lesbian rangers
yup.
not only does it have a good theme song it has a cute couple in it.

She is so silly and goofy and full of whimsy

Holy shit. When it zoomed out to the same circular city design as every other isekai, there was actual farmland instead of empty plains. WataOshi is truly a revolution for the genre.

Wonder why the cities are generally circular? Often they were shaped by the local river, I believe, or misshapen from random new construction since the first few houses were built.

Fortifications, usually. Medieval city walls are usually built in a roughly circular shape, and sometimes the city grows past them to the point where it's worth building a new wall outside the old one so you can track the city's growth by a series of expanding rings of development.

Watched it yesterday. Been a little while since I read the book, but it seemed pretty similar to the first part of the book.

Not a mainly yuri series, though the manga eventually has a yuri subplot. Looks good. As a comics nerd, it was nice to see physics bite the heroine in the ass.

Oh, I didn't realize that this was out already. I'll be watching it later, I guess.

So I've finished reading the first four light novels of Otherside Picnic. It's pretty good. And it's definitely yuri, but it's a slow burn. They don't kiss until towards the end of the fourth book.
Wanted to come back to this. Glad that 2021 opened with some options in literature for fans of yuri.

But, holy crap, there was such a gap in streaming. There were tons of series to fit Supernatural, Comedy, Drama, Romance tastes but not a damn one was considered yuri.

I'm in Love With the Villainess #2 and She #2 both aired.

I'm in Love With the Villainess continues to be mostly funny and a bit cringe. I find Rae pretty funny, though I wonder how well it'll do on a rewatch.

Shy introduced the ongoing threat... and the transformation on the villain was pretty cool.

There are now eight Otherside Picnic books released in English, and they're officially dating by this point.

I would caution against putting too much trust in the output of AI chatbots. They'll sometimes just make shit up.

But it is true that we don't get a lot of yuri anime, and when we do it tends to be subtext.

Oh yes the eternal debate if Maid Dragon is or is not yuri.
I mean, the titular characters are a woman with a maid fetish and a dragon shapeshifted into a woman that wants to have sex with her. Sounds pretty lesbian to me.

I did notice Killing Slimes For 300 Years in that list, which I would say is about as yuri as Maid Dragon: secondary characters are clearly and obviously attracted to women, but the main female lead just doesn't think about romance much, if at all. Despite that, they live together, flirt (on the part of the secondary characters), adopt daughters, and so on.

On the one hand cheers for more asexual lesbians, on the other hand boo for the corps trying to have their cake and eat it too.

It got a "short / web animation" treatment for that year so it might be harder to pick up on that. But anyone is totally welcome to find instances of yuri in those all the same, trusting human eyes for sure.

In fiction, it's understandably a long shot to be on top of the romance quest while centuries as an OP undead while having overworked for decades the life before. I mean, look how exhausted Tohru gets although she lacks witch powers.

An interesting perspective, but I'm still annoyed at the fact that it's got an in built excuse of them being "just good friends" if they want to ship the show to a hostile nation.

Can you be both asexual and x sexuality? Seems mutually exclusive.
There's two things to that:
- Romantic and sexual attractions aren't the same ; in most people it's true that they coincide but not in all people.
- "lesbian" means "woman attracted (only) to women" but can be used both for homosexuality and homoromantism.

Hence, it's entirely possible to be a woman that's romantically attracted to other women, but sexually attracted to no-one at all: ace lesbians.

It's also a spectrum like any others. With some, well, if you ask they might state a preference, but not really feel any drive to go out and pursue a sexual or romantic relationship.

That depends how we define yuri.

Is yuri a story where prime focus is relationship between two females? Then no, it isn't. The focus of the series is very much on found family dynamic and comedy, not in personal relationship of main cast.

Tohru is pretty obviously in love with Kobayashi. Elma loves both Tohru and Kobayashi. Tohru also very much cares about Elma, despite her insistence of other wise(FFS, she crashed her wedding). Key here is that Kobayashi herself is not quite sure where she lands. She does care for Tohru, and does want her in her life, but she is not sure if she can respond in the same feelings that Tohru has. Oh she does eventually admit she does love Tohru, but well.. it's not quite the same as with Tohru, and it doesn't really change anything between two.

I doubt we will ever get proper confession or confirmation on Kobayashis stance, since the series doesn't really focus on romance.

Oh, you want something to boo, boo at Bandai. After the end of Witch from Mercury, they tried to push whole "their relationship is up to interpretation".
