Lesbian and Yuri Anime/TV/Novel/General Discussion Thread

I think some would be fine with the horny if not for the elephant in the room that is most of the cast's age. (This is pretty much what ended up causing it to be completely nuked over on TVTropes, to my utter annoyance.)

Which I think people are kinda overblowing. For starters, they are fictional, and situations they get in are... well, let's just say that they are so fantastical that I have very hard time relating them to be real kids. You can also do what I do, and basically ignore their supposed ages and just enjoy the work.

This isn't porn. Just because the characters are horny does not mean you need to be one.

I mean, I like it too but let's be real, it *is* effectively softcore hentai. Especially the anime. The fact that it's also genuinely charming and funny doesn't take away from that. Porn can be funny.

Generally I just take one look at the art and say, okay you've got their ages entirely wrong, lets multiply by a factor of 1.5. For any isekai or otherworld fantasy that's even fully justifiable. It's just the ones that take place on earth that you might need to get creative to explain why your 14 year old protagonist isn't actually 21 like they most certainly should be or appear to be. :p

Yeah, if it bothers you that much you can just pretend they're college students who go to a school with a weird dress code, and very little would need to change.

Personally I look at the series through the lens of porn logic, where hardcore bdsm play is a safe and normal activity for teenagers to engage in and sexual assault is a minor inconvenience at worst. To me it's the same as action movie logic, where getting into a gunfight somehow wouldn't be a life-alteringly traumatic experience.

I bring a trailer and poster for the anime of Yuri Horror manga "This Monster Wants to Eat Me" that is coming out some time next year:

Summary said:
Hinako, a high school student with a dark past, lives alone in a town by the sea. Haunted by a constant sensation of drowning, she can barely go through the motions of her tedious life…until the day a monster tries to eat her! After passing out in the struggle, she awakens to find she's been rescued by a beautiful mermaid. However, salvation comes at a cost—the mermaid's protection will last only until Hinako has matured into the perfect meal! Hinako's first instinct isn't to run or scream, though, and an unlikely relationship between monster and prey unfolds… "I've come to devour you."

I tried to like the manga, but something about the mermaid girl just rubbed me utterly wrong. Like, I get that she is supposed to be otherwordly and not understand humans, but still, I just failed to really like her.

Could be that you were picking up on the fact

that she's lying through her teeth through all of their early conversations. Despite what she saying she actually wants the mc to live and her entire plan to get her to be happy "so she's tastier" is just a facade

Oh wait, this one...

Is the manga I said to myself I will read since last year but haven't got a chance to actually read it up until now...

I bring news that the Yuri Light Novel/Manga "There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your Lover! Unless…" is getting an anime that will be coming out in Summer 2025. Here is the trailer:

Summary said:
A high school yuri comedy about fake dating, real dating, competitive dating–and one very overwhelmed girl who's accidentally doing all three at once?!

Awkward, introverted Amaori Renako is leaving her lonely middle school life behind, determined to become an outgoing and popular high schooler. Glamorous, confident Oduka Mai is Renako's total opposite: wealthy, carefree, and a literal fashion model. Against the odds, the two girls form an immediate connection. Renako thinks she may have found the best friend of her dreams…until Mai's love confession sends her feelings into a tailspin. Renako wants to prove to Mai that being BFFs is better than being girlfriends, but Mai is dead set on convincing Renako that they're destined to be lovers!

I remember reading this and being pretty put off by Oduka Mai's pushy behavior. While there wasn't anything outright objectionable compared to some other series with a similar premise, here it came off as more subtly emotionally abusive in a weird way, constantly wriggling her way around Renako's boundaries and ignoring her wishes in a way that felt uncomfortably real.

It has been a hot minute since I tried to read it, though, so my recollection of the specifics is pretty hazy, and hopefully an anime adaptation might be able to reframe the weirder stuff to come off more romantic like the author probably intended.
