Lesbian and Yuri Anime/TV/Novel/General Discussion Thread

Ah, but problematic in what way?
Aight, if you're familiar with the name Mochi Au Lait, it's one of their works which should tell you a lot of what you need to know.

If it doesn't... well lets start at the beginning I suppose.

So the main character is initially introduced having the hots for one of the school's male teachers (this both is and isn't important for a variety of reasons) however she's (supposedly) too shy to get his attention. So after trawling the the internet she finds a sketchy love potion and buys it. Worried about potential side effects, she decides to test it on someone she doesn't like. The class president.

What happens next is... well...

The class president proceeds to force herself on the MC while under the drug's effect. It eventually wears off and the two of them go their separate ways. You'd think that'd be the end of love potion related shenanigans from the MC learning her lesson but it is not. Many many chapters follow where the love potion becomes a catalyst for other girls to force themselves on her and otherwise invade her personal space. Wildly the MC actually starts connecting with the people around her and forming (relatively) more healthy relationships because of this and the love potion plot moves into the background as an occasional gag to whip out at wacky moments.

Being a Mochi Au Lait series it is still crazed nonsense but uh... yeah. It's an entire thing.

The first episode of "VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream" dropped today.
It's hilarious alcohol fueled goodness and 100% unabashedly Yuri.

I haven't seen the anime, but I've been following the light novels closely. I'm a little curious how they adapted it; a lot of the humour comes from chat interactions, including stuff like blank chat lines to signify the audience being too stunned for words. Not sure how well that translates to anime, especially when the narrative says the chat is going particularly quickly.

Amusingly, Ayane Sakura has voiced the protagonist Awayuki before, several years ago. Partly to promote the light novel, and partly as a joke collab with Hololive's Marine.

I'm not sure if the anime will get to the later light novel parts, where there is an actual relationship, rather than just the dirty jokes the characters make. (Or the offhand backstory of one of the characters being a former lesbian porn actress, which she draws on for her own dirty jokes.)

EDIT: Watched it, and the way they handle stream chat is pretty good. Especially when the other Live-On members join in the chat, making their messages stand out more.

Also I'm looking forward to whether the anime will show how the "real life" appearances of the characters are sometimes very different from their streamer appearances. In the light novels, every illustration of the characters is with their streamer appearances, but their "real life" appearance does get described in the text; sometimes in basic terms, sometimes drawing attention to the contrast.

Thinking of a GL/Yuri action manga where tropes like Depraved Homosexual, Psycho Lesbian and Girl on Girl is Hot are brutally deconstructed and ripped apart to shreds, where the DH lesbian is called out as a predator towards the female protagonist whom she attempts to romance with and ends up backfiring on her end. Eventually, the DH les deals with the fallout of her actions as she becomes a complete social outcast, who loses a lot of trust from others she cared for, and it is up for the female protagonist, who is now stuck in this mess, to help her out. But it opens a new can of worms for her and the girl who is recently casted out for her actions.

Saw this on Kickstarter, just wondering if those yuri manga is worth backing as I'm unfamiliar with most of the authors:

Are these official yuri and not in name only?

For fuck sake, they are kickstarters that explicitly mention romantic wlw stories written by Japanese writers in Japan.

In what fucking universe that is not Yuri?

It's just to make sure that it's not a catchy title nor a cover that sounds bait-y (a la yuribait as a common tactic by some lying authors), given some people's history of dealing with them. Just a cautioning moment.

I don't think there's indication it is yuribait. Miyuki Yorita isn't first time author, her work is in Dynasty if you want to check yourself. Galette been around the block for a while, and they've been trying to bring the anthology to English for some time. Hanakage Alt isn't in Dynasty, but she is on Mangadex and her titles seems to be mostly yuri.

Regardless of authors' other works (though all of them written mostly or all works as yuri anyway), the titles or anthology presented are yuri.

Ah, but as long as it is advertised exactly what it should be, rather than the opposite by adding convoluted, never-to-have-been-happening-in-reality nonsense, then it is good and passable. It's just the past annoyance that had to be dealt with other lying authors and execs who lied to their teeth when it comes to this stuff, only for others to be baited afterwards. Honesty matters.

IMHO people care too much about horniness, instead of taking it as a joke that it is, and ignore actually pretty heartwarming coming-of-age story that is being story underneath all of it.

I think some would be fine with the horny if not for the elephant in the room that is most of the cast's age. (This is pretty much what ended up causing it to be completely nuked over on TVTropes, to my utter annoyance.)
