Lesbian and Yuri Anime/TV/Novel/General Discussion Thread

Well, no genitalia. As I understand it, that'll be on the bluray.

The audio is muffled is places too.

The version HiDive is using for their stream is the one that is airing on AX-T, which means the visuals are more or less uncensored, but the audio is. So that explains that. I'm just wondering what is going to happen when the English Dub shows up (Yes I have read that this series is getting an English Dub).

I'm surprised at the relative success of Gushing Over Magical Girls. It never was going to be mainstream popular anime (for obvious reasons) and the anime is clearly on the cheaper side. Still I have seen plenty of reactors in YouTube, the Reddit threads have a ton of activity and apparently the BD and DVD have been selling out in Japan. I guess controversy does sell.

That aside, yesterday's episode had a surprisingly amount of nudity, specially in the first minute of the episode and in the fight at the end. I really hope we get to see Azul's La Verita. Azul in particular exemplifies a lot of the themes of the series, pretty much being the other side of Baiser's coin.

I do admit that being a manga reader and knowing what will happens does lessen the shock value of what new kinky stuff Utena will try this week. But still I'm hyped for Leopard next episode. Go get your wife!

Current problem on my mind is how to solve a desire for a good place to check regularly for or get sent info on any upcoming or recent English volume releases of manga, particularly yuri centric. It's not something that those around me talk about, them tending to talk about fan translated stuff and not really note official releases, and I felt that just directly asking a place like this would be the best bet for advice.

Just want to reiterate how much arse this show hath kickethed. First, the amplified presence of show side meta (voice actor and actress interviews, omakes, social media pings, etc.) and with the web novel originator doing some juicy interviews in the same opening week.
The hilarity of listening to Post-Recording snippets (with quality captioning by yurireader420 sameday) I absolutely yearn for a season 2 for these fine folks.

The Kiwi episode was everything I wanted.

Now I hope we get to see the hotel and her La Verita.

Has anyone read the LN Otherside Picnic? It's a yuri LN that is different from other yuri LNs like I'm in Love With the Villainess, being that it does not rely on stuff like isekai tropes (of course). And aside from the A-Plot about Sorawo and Toriko visiting a world where creepypastas and Japanese horror folklores coming to life, the romance between the two becomes a major plot point in the next few volumes.

It's Roadside Picnic with Yuri.

I've watched the first season of the anime. It looks Yuri adjacent but hasn't crossed the line into full Yuri yet.

Anime won't get there, even the manga is only just getting there and it is far ahead of where the anime stops.

It does, eventually, go full yuri.

I've been told the anime is a poor adaption and moved events out of order too

The problem with the anime adaptation of Otherside Picnic is that it's a Pragmatic Adaptation of the source material to begin with, as it only encompassed the first two volumes. And it's a spiralling mess when they decide to do anachronistic episode order, ESPECIALLY in the Station February arc.

And as for yuri (which is like a major aspect of the LN), it did not happen in the anime since the real yuri part only started until the final chapter in Volume 3, as it is still subtextual in nature in the anime adaptation. The anime only covered one chapter from Volume 3 and that is in Episode 8.

i kind of bounced off of otherside when i first tried to read it but after hearing about "recent developments", lets say, i'm thinking about giving it another shot

I've read some of the manga and enjoyed it so far, but I get the impression the yuri is a lot more obvious earlier in the light novels because I've seen quotes of the viewpoint character's internal monologue and she is really into her partner.

The LN is pretty much the go-to, definitive and complete experience for Otherside Picnic.

Volume 8 is the most important volume of the LN since the vast majority of it is centred on Sorawo's struggle regarding her feelings towards Toriko, a very far cry from the previous volumes.

Well, it technically is an isekai. Like, that's kind of in the title =P

But anyway, as said above, it's great and the anime's ass. The manga's ok but way behind.

It's kind of a breath of fresh air if you don't want to see "in another world" or "resurrected as someone's body" yuri story.

While I like the premise of I'm in Love With The Villainess, most of it still follows the classic isekai tropes for a measure.

Yes, I've read all of the Light Novels that have been released in English. I dig it. It's really good.

Anime won't get there, even the manga is only just getting there and it is far ahead of where the anime stops.
The light novels have gotten there, but the anime only covered the first couple of novels, which is a couple of novels short of where things become unambiguous.

Otherside Picnic's anime isn't pragmatic adaptation. Compare with magical revolution, which is an example of pragmatic adaptation. Plot get shortened and merged, exposition frontloaded, all with specific aim to get a certain scene at the end of season because if we gonna wait until season 2 for them to kiss in anime we'll wait forever.

No, there's enough episodes for Otherside Picnic to reach pretty good climax. Because they've done it. They more or less adapted the chapters wholesale, except one arc, which is shortened to just one episode (to its detriment). Then they throw in filler episodes. Then arc that in light novel happened after supposed climax. Then everything get scrambled.

I have no idea what the crews was thinking when making it.

EDIT: I do still recommend the anime if you've read the LN and want to see them animated. It's pretty good. The OP and ED songs are great. It's just... well, everything else really.
