Lesbian and Yuri Anime/TV/Novel/General Discussion Thread

I just find it odd the presence arose from the commoners who might be more down to Earth, rather than nobility who were jockeying in bedsheets like it was 3d chess.

Given the pseudo-France setting, it would actually be historical.

Laws against incest between consenting adults were abolished in 1791, as part of the general rewriting of laws in the wake of the French Revolution. (Incest is still illegal if under 18.) This was brought up again last year, when there was talk of making incest illegal again. (I can't remember if the proposal passed.)

I must say, WataOshi is an intriguing alternate history take. The leapfrog from disunity or whatnot to create the Bauer kingdom, it sounds way more like pre-WW1 Germany or Luxembourg or such. That is, I would hope that history classes have instilled in enough peeps over at SyoSetsu that for nearly 800 years France was a distinct nation state. The only exception was northern France, Normandy, which had a very interesting union with England between William's troops marshaling against Harold II in 1066 and Philip II of France in 1204 finally grabbing some of the territory back.
That WataOshi goes to the trouble of including Napoleon!! suggests we can expect Russel Crowe raiding the coastlines any day now.

Pretty sure it's not actually supposed to be an alternate history of our word, but a complete fantasy setting, taking some vague trappings and aesthetics from pop history as fantasy often does. In the books the protagonist even thinks to herself a few times that, because the game was made in modern Japan with modern Japanese cultural attitudes, it's got things that make no sense for a historical European setting but are familiar to modern Japanese audience (like school festivals with maid cafes).

Indeed, what are those more recent works that try to blur the lines between genres called? I think it was a major trend back in the El Hazard isekai days, still, no idea what brought it back.

However, it is possible in WataOshi's case, that syosetsu user Inori felt modern Japanese attitudes are bound to get an isekai character like Rae in a heap of trouble with the authorities unless the setting has already absorbed some of the culture. Why that is the case is bound to bring this discussion into major spoiler territory, however, perhaps it should be done.

Heavy LN spoilers that go far beyond the anime.

It is actually a post-apocalypse setting managed by a godlike super AI.

I think they're usually named by taking the names of the genres they're blending and smushing those names together.

Decided to finally watch Sakura Trick as it has been in my must watch list for a while.

...

5 minutes in that is a considerably amount boob shots and jiggle physics. Nothing wrong with that but I had somewhat different expectations for this show.

Haven't read the LNs, but did they ever reconcile all the details around that (like Claire being someone who was actually real and had a relationship with the real Rei) with the whole isekai supposedly being about the protags memories of a video game?

*checks*
It's a yuri romance manga, so what's surprising about that? Homosexual ladies would get aroused by those just like heterosexual guys, I'd assume. Unless you were after more emotional scenes and conversations vs titillation.

See when someone says Yuri Romance Manga I think in Bloom Into You and similar. Even when they have a heavy titillation element I think stuff like Citrus.

Sakura Trick is something like a Yuri romcom with heavy emphasis on the comedic gag element... And a considerable amount of comedic gag titillation with first year high school characters.

It definitely isn't bad and I'm definitely having a blast watching it. It just isn't what I was expecting.

In addition to watching the shows, I find it's always fun to check out the end matter of manga especially something going on 10+ years like Citrus or Sakura Trick (Sakura Trick was August 2012 for volume 1, February 2013 volume 2, and so on). Part of this is because artist / author blurbs serve to connect readers with the complexities the yuri format is facing leading up to the publish date.
In the case of Sakura Trick, I imagine there would be something after chapter 8 in Volume 1, as it had a chance to re-release after the initial run in Kirara Miracle! (but, alas, it is easier to find the anime Blu-Ray at present).

For other yuri anime this season, anyone else watching Vexations of a Shut-in Vampire?

I did not expect it to be so violent and brutal going in. I'm enjoying it so far, so it was a nice surprise.

I get the feeling they are just going to keep the villains as massive bastards so the audience doesn't feel too bad about Terakomari dismembering them in new and interesting ways. Because if that's the case it's working.

I've read the light novels, but haven't seen the anime.

It's interesting to learn that the anime seems to be portraying the violence as is. The story in the light novel does describe the brutal dismemberings and such, but mostly in an offhand comedy action way, because these are all demons (ie magical beings who do immense violence by default) and the brutal injuries tend not to last, given magical healing. It's treated as a sort of weird sporting rivalry.

I admit I didn't really consider it yuri, because like the violence, it isn't the primary point of the story, which is about Terakomari's increasingly desperate attempts to remain a shut-in.

Lol the cliffhanger of Stardust Telepath is just evil.

[Next episode spoilers]They split chapter 21, I guess the intent is to soften the blow of they badly losing and failing to qualify and ending next episode with Umika slowly rebuilding her friendship group.

Still it is going to be rough start for next week's episode that will leave people wondering what happened to their CGDCT show. We are in Cute Girls Suffering for Character Development territory (CGSCD)

As for IILWTV, so hyped for Manaria.

Well, with the latest Villainess episode we are finally entering Manaria territory as Tyran has likewise indicated. The question remains whether Rae will get as KO'd by the duel, and it will be important to see how Claire reacts to her getting hurt the way she did in ep 9 regarding one of the Bauer bros.

Do we know for sure yet whether it's going to be a 1-cour or 2-cour series? If it's 24 episodes then it should be able to cover all of Volume 2 and end with some closure.
