Lesbian and Yuri Anime/TV/Novel/General Discussion Thread

That is a Madoka Magica rip-off if I've ever seen one. They're not even trying to be clever or original about the designs.
Man dude I don't know how to tell you that Madoka was not original when it came to it's Magical Girl outfit designs. Maybe you could make an argument for some of the weirdness that came with Magia Record and some extended universe stuff but don't try to pretend that Madoka invented what is essentially Bog Standard Magical Girl.

The fact that they look like Bog Standard Magical Girls is kind of why Madoka's shtick worked in the first place.

So Gushing over Magical Girls is getting an anime that will be coming out next year. I bring the teaser image for it in the spoiler box due to size and other reasons:

Other than the fact it will be coming out some time next year, there is no information revealed about it at this current time. I still have no clue how this series is even going to be able to air in a semi-reasonable state without it getting banned from nearly every service.

If interspecies reviewers can exist, so can it, I guess...

Maybe they're aiming more for Netflix and such rather than TV?

More Precure tbh, and that's kind of the point.

No, it's not

The general magical girls aesthetic is in no way a rip off of Madoka, if it were Madoka would be a rip off of previous magical girls shows like pretty cute (it is not)

Also theme wise they can't be more different, Madoka is about despair, "looking up"... Well to put it in one word "Horny"

There is nothing wholesome with or even in that story. Only horny.

In slightly other news, I bring two images from "I'm in Love With the Villainess":

Compared to "I'm in Love With the Villainess", "Looking Up To Magical Girls" is wholesome. At least its pairings are build on two sides actually caring about each others, rather than one forcing themselves onto other until they develop Stockholm Syndrome.

Utena and Kiwi at least give each others space they need, when they need it, rather than force themselves into every aspect of ones live. Kiwi might lust for Utena, but she knows when to stop.

Contrast with Rei who consistently makes Claire uncomfortable and uses blackmail to force herself into position as Clairse personal maid, against Claires objections.

Kiwi, meanwhile, was able to recognize that Utena did not want to have sex with her and was not comfortable with their "hotel date", even if Utena had agreed to it and called it off.

Now, this isn't to say Looking Up isn't horny. It's 100% horny, just that it manages to be wholesomely horny.

Looking Up To Magical Girls has a lot to say on the subject of healthy relationship dynamics. Honestly if you can get deal with all the Horn it's a very good series.

Also it doesn't go "yeah, homosexuality is the same as incest tbh", so...

And yeah, 100% agree with wholesomely horny.

(and honestly, it really is a coming of age story, they literally get powerups from accepting/realising who they are. For exemple, Azure is uh... she's Azure. We don't talk about Azure)

I'm in Love with the Villaness isn't wholesome until the end of the first arc when the kids are introduced.

And also it isn't a work meant to be wholesome, but rather it is actually deeply political as how society and laws discriminate against queer people is like half of the plot (the other half being how laws and society discriminate against poor people).

And apparently for a while, the app didn't notify until the first of those pages went free.

I bring a new trailer (along with a release date of October 2nd) for the "I'm in Love with the Villainess" anime:

I also bring a new key visual for it:

I bring the first trailer for the Gushing over Magical Girls anime:

I also bring a few VAs and a list of the lead staff working on it:

Hanabishi Haruka / Magia Magenta is voiced by Kaori Maeda (Yomi Takeda in TAMAYOMI: The Baseball Girls)
Venalita is voiced by Misato Fukuen (Himiko Toga in My Hero Academia)

  • Direction - Misato Suzuki, Atsushi Otsuki
  • Series Composition - Noboru Kimura
  • Character Design - Yasuka OtakiI
  • Sound Direction - Satoshi Motoyama
  • Music - Yasuharu Takanashi, Akinari Suzuki, Johannes Nilsson
  • Music Production - Lantis
  • Animation Production - Asahi Production

So yeah, it will certainly be something when it comes out.

Still can't belive this is getting adapted. Then again, Interspecies Reviewers did get adapted...
And very shortly after dropped from almost all English streaming services, lol. Sadly I can't see Australia being one of the few places to keep sexual anime content afloat these days, as our local streaming service got bought out by Funimation... Which then got eaten by Crunchyroll a few months later.

Was a real annoyance as the UI quality dropped like a stone :p

So how far into the manga do you believe will get adapted?

Thinking about it, the manga does take a while to get the plot and character development rolling [insert an "I read Gushing over Magical Girls for the plot" joke].

Probably until Lord Enorme's defeat would be my guess.

That would seem like logical end conclusion and gives a nice "we defeated worse evil", a somewhat "heroic" end. Then again, Utena/Magia Barister never really does evil for evil sake, but because in her world view bad guys fight magical girls and magical girls are expected to win.

I can already see myself trying to explain to anime-only that Lord Enorme somehow got a redemption arc.

That is debatable, she has definitely done evil for horny's sake

Some could consider it a bit of a grey area in that regard
