*Shrug* And? The first is our Caste and we already have Charms from the other two. And in a modern day setting? Bureaucracy Charms are really worth it.
No. We don't have Cecelyne charms. We won't have Cecelyne charms. At the very least not until a great deal changes for Taylor. As she is she would not take them, with the possible exception of the tree that starts with Transcendent Desert Creature. And even then, she'd have no reason to WANT to take that, because she lives nowhere near to a place of physical desolation.

If that changed, or she gained incentive to take it (which there are circumstances which might prompt that), then it's entirely possible she might want to pick up Untouchable Infinitude, Counter-Pronouncement, or even Sandstrike blast or Holy Land Infliction. But that would come later. Much later.

And to head off any argument on it: Cecelyne will not be on the future list of potential Favored Yozis. This will be deliberate. Most of the other Yozis will, to the extent that the conversation she's going to have with Joyous Uncertainty in 1.10 can sell her on their upsides.

The full list of the excluded Yozis and the reasons why:

Cecelyne -- she's just another damn bully, but on a cosmic scale. To Taylor, she'd be the Winslow staff, the Trio, and a fucking bitch all rolled into one.

Hegra -- canon!Taylor (from which we haven't diverged enough at this point for it to be a non-issue) has an overwhelmingly negative opinion about drugs, narcotics and mind-altering substances. (If I remember the Hegra homebrew I've seen rightly.) This may change in play, so Hegra charms aren't a hard no, just a "Not for now." The same way Cecelyne's are, and for much the same reason, honestly. Honestly, without Past Life influence, a fair dosage of Isidoros or Metagaos, this one's potentially less likely to change any time soon than Cecelyne is.

The Ebon Dragon -- Several of his charms are things canon!Taylor would be inclined to delve into; but largely it's just the charms which build off of LSD or Cracked Cell Circumvention. She can and does relate to his desire to never be trapped. But at this point in time she's not spiteful enough to want to emulate his hate-ons.

Oramus -- I'm not aware of an Oramus charmset that makes any sense to use outside of Malfeas/Creation. If someone can make me aware of one and I see a rationale for it being an option...then my opinion on that is subject to change.

Sacheverell -- There is only room for one Sacheverell Exalt on Earth Bet and it's already the Sleeper.

Charmsets that are justifiable IC:

Malfeas -- she has more than enough self-loathing and endurance to mirror him in that. And she has some anger to be sure. Not the best fit. But also not the worst.

Adorjan -- I've gone into this in the past. Combined with SWLiHN, Adorjan's methods describe 1/2 to 1/3 of canon!Taylor's m.o. Additionally, she's honestly got a lot of baggage that she might want to Let Go of. And she's good at punishing hypocrisy, something that Skitter!Taylor would and did have desire to do.

Isidoros -- She's spent so damn long trying to hide, it'd feel good to maybe assert her own right to be happy.

Metagaos -- She's already good at the wallflower schtick. And at being deceptively unalarming up until your blood is on her metaphorical hands. See also the meme regarding "Meh. I can take her."

Kimbery -- From a practical standpoint, she lives in a freaking bay. And she already knows many of Kimbery's lessons from her own life.

Szoreny -- Szoreny's patient precision and use of enemies' strengths against them also dovetails nicely into canon!Taylor's m.o.

Please let me know if I've forgotten someone.

So I'm going to update this, because I just realized it left out all my favorite Malfeas charms.

I've covered what By Pain Reforged does previously. Take a point of bashing to ignore wound penalties from bashing including to not go unconscious until your health levels fill with lethal. The following things build off of it.

  • Purity of Madness Defense: No one can change your shape but you. It drives you a little crazy, but you resist Shaping effects (at the cost of a point of Limit)
    • By Rage Recast: A bit mechanically complicated, but essentially, when Malfeas was twisted into having a physical form, the Solars made something truly ugly out of him. You get (Essence x 10 [so 30 for current Taylor]) points of mutations that go into a mutation library. You have to spend all 30 points. The library is fixed until you raise your Essence score, at which point you can re-allocate all 30 points. When your anima banner gets to the Blazing Bonfire level (colored aura that's visible from a long range, but not quite totemic), you immediately and reflexively gain 8 points of mutations from your library. Any 8 points. When your anima fades, the mutations do as well. Until you get to Essence 3, that is. At that point: you pick if you want your mutations to fade when the banner does. You can alternately let them stay as long as you want, dismissing them as a later miscellaneous action. Or replacing them with others by flaring your anima again to pick a new set. Now why this works so well is a little involved, but essentially, the charm gives carte blanche in adding all sorts of cool abilities to a character. And the variety of effects make an insane degree of customization possible. This is a stepping stone to what I like to call the One Winged Angel combo which I featured rather prominently in Omake 1a and 1b. In this case, the "THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM" step.
      • Devil-Tyrant Avatar Shintai: This is one of the two easiest Shintai charms to pick up in the game. It also adds the ability to take your entire library of mutations from its prerequisite and have them ALL apply at once (barring that you have to choose between effects that are mutually exlusive). Your anima roils in and collapses into you, and you explode, literally [how Jack got burned in the Omake]. Any Shaping attempts on you are Obvious and you can reflexively reject them, even if you aren't conscious. You gain (Essence) natural lethal and bashing soak. You gain (+Essence) to your movement and dashing speeds. You increase your Strength (+Essence) for breaking things and feats of strength. This is the capstone of the OWA-combo.
    • Nightmare Fugue Vigilance fits here.
      • By Agony Empowered: What By Pain Reforged does for bashing, this does for Lethal. Makes it so they have to bring you all the way down to full Aggravated damage to cause you to pass out/die. Between the two they effectively triple your Health Levels. At E5+, allows you to ignore wound penalties even from Aggravated damage. At that point you literally fight until dead without showing any sign of being affected by your wounds unless they amputate something. This is a twice removed stepping-stone to the OWA-combo.
        • The King Still Stands: Those that'd try to take you down make you angry. That anger makes you more powerful. Whenever your Incap box gets filled by damage of a type for the first time in a scene, you gain 10 offensive motes (special kind of mote that can only go in a particular type of pool and can only be used for attack). Stepping stone to the middle part of the OWA-combo.
          • Driven Beyond Death: This is the middle of the OWA-combo. It's also the one with the steepest prerequisites, as it requires Essence 5 to purchase. This is the point in a JRPG where a cutscene breaks in, and the heroes can't do jack to them as the boss enemy switches to a more powerful form before REALLY letting loose. Activates when you get to fill your Incapacitated health box with damage (which, if you're using By Agony Empowered means after they've powered through all THREE of your Health Bars). Your Anima goes totemic and the area for five miles around you is riven by a localized earthquake, with you at the epicenter. The legend of The Primordial King (The Empyreal Chaos) wraps around your chest, biceps, and as a crown on your forehead. For the next acction, you are perfectly immune to all harm and all attacks. However, you can't take any action, except to activate any one shintai charm you know. If you don't activate one, you effectively remain inactive for that action. When that's done, your anima display dies down, and then you cut loose, final boss style. Your overdrive pool (special pool for attack-motes) gains 10 of them. From then on, you will remain active and attacking, unable to retreat until your attack-mote pool runs empty. Or the fight ends. Period. You can't heal in any way from magic during this time. Attacks that don't beat a minimum of (16+) post-soak damage? They don't even register. And that scales up with Essence. At E10, they have to deal a minimum of 31+ post soak damage just to even leave a mark. The only way to slow you down at that point is to amputate your limbs or break them beyond functioning. Your attack-mote expenditures are discounted by 1m, to a minimum of 0m. You can't apply more than one 0m charm to a given attack. However, you gain 3 attack-motes per action. When the fight ends or your attack-mote pool dries up, you roll (Stamina + Essence), Difficulty 5. If you fail, THEN you pass out. If you succeed, your Incapacitated level of damage is healed, though Final Boss Mode is a 1-off deal. You can only use it once in a given scene. As clarification: it only shows up when you're ACTUALLY incapacitated. If By Agony Empowered is up, then it doesn't show up until you get to Incap with Aggravated damage. You can't just trigger your Final Boss Transformation because they knocked off one of your three health bars; they have to put you down to your last hit point.
  • To summarize the One-Winged Angel combo, imagine a fight like a typical JRPG boss fight...only you're the boss.
    • Stage 1 (Pre-Transformation): Totally normal looking humanoid enemy. (has By Rage Recast, but Anima banner at <11+m level).
    • Stage 2 (This isn't even my final form!): First transformation. (11+m level of anima display, By Rage Recast mutations visible).
    • Stage 3 (Behold my true form, and despair!): You hit incap. Driven Beyond Death activates. For your Shintai activation, you use Devil-Tyrant Avatar Shintai. You roflstomp.
Oh man, totally forgot to include the Broken Winged Crane stuff in my writeup.

Hmm. While on the subject of Yozi-primers, I think we are digging too deep into mechanics. The point when I initially wrote up the Malfeas and Cecelyne stuff was to avoid direct mechanical references where possible because to people that don't know anything about Exalted such mechanics would be meaningless. So a charm that lets you hit dematerialized spirits simply became, "Fuck Shadow Stalker, The Charm" which easily summarized what the charm does in play.

Obviously there's been a bit of drift since then, but I think we ought to focus a bit more on keeping things simple.

Sacheverell -- There is only room for one Sacheverell Exalt on Earth Bet and it's already the Sleeper.
This is either a hilarious joke or brilliant fridge logic.

Well done.

Oramus -- I'm not aware of an Oramus charmset that makes any sense to use outside of Malfeas/Creation. If someone can make me aware of one and I see a rationale for it being an option...then my opinion on that is subject to change.
Alexander's quest actually had us being Chosen by TED and Favored by Oramus. I wasn't part of it, but a bunch of homebrew was made for him over there.

*Turns to thread* Help? Anyone?

There is Revlid's Elloge Charmset. I seem to remember a comment that she'd be inadmissible as well, but she should still be on the list.
Elloge has narrative themed powers that are similar enough to Cecelynes wish granting to provoke the Simurgh. Her other stuff is about communication, the boundary between information and physical matter, things like that. Personalitywise Taylor would identify more with her than Cecelyne though.

Only in a place of physical desolation. Which she isn't in.
That's separate from the penalty cap for starvation and dehydration though. If they wanted to they could have put a comma in place of the period, but they didn't so that may be a separate effect.

We're unlikely to pick this up anyway so it's meh all around, but I've always played with that as being an always on thing since it's such an inconsequential point.

Bored. Summarizing Elloge Charms even though I just linked them.

Aand new charms added to the "Taylor Hebert, Cosmic Matchmaker" setup...

And to head off any argument on it: Cecelyne will not be on the future list of potential Favored Yozis. This will be deliberate. Most of the other Yozis will, to the extent that the conversation she's going to have with Joyous Uncertainty in 1.10 can sell her on their upsides.
Ah, yes, this makes sense now, if Taylor is getting a say in the matter rather than it being built in and assigned internally.
Cecelyne -- she's just another damn bully, but on a cosmic scale. To Taylor, she'd be the Winslow staff, the Trio, and a fucking bitch all rolled into one.
Indeed.

And herself too. Which is why I thought it fit, but she'd not see herself so.
Probably, modern stuff don't do Hegra any favors
The Ebon Dragon -- Several of his charms are things canon!Taylor would be inclined to delve into; but largely it's just the charms which build off of LSD or Cracked Cell Circumvention. She can and does relate to his desire to never be trapped. But at this point in time she's not spiteful enough to want to emulate his hate-ons.
Fully agreed, though hate ons aside, she embraces Ebon Dragon approaches only because she couldn't see any other way. The act of the desperate.
Oramus -- I'm not aware of an Oramus charmset that makes any sense to use outside of Malfeas/Creation. If someone can make me aware of one and I see a rationale for it being an option...then my opinion on that is subject to change.
I recall seeing a few interesting ones around which works just fine even without Creation/Wyld/Malfeas, but I don't feel that his themes of uniqueness, theatrics and generally blurring the line between fantasy and reality is going to appeal to her prior to Tattletale's spiel on the cops and robbers element or getting Glenn'ed.

Malfeas -- she has more than enough self-loathing and endurance to mirror him in that. And she has some anger to be sure. Not the best fit. But also not the worst.
You get the same Cecelyne problem here. If she has a say in the choice, she doesn't want to believe she's like that. She bottles it in, convinces herself she's in control of the situation, rather than rage for the world to see.

Again the same issues, they fit her, but she'd be rather unlikely to admit to it for the same reason she benefits from it. Adorjan embraces the loss of control and the suffering by living in the Now, but for Taylor, happy times were ALL in the past, and the present is full of shit(and blood).

Annette being alive, Emma being her friend, Danny still emotionally healthy, the city before it's decline.

So I strongly doubt she'd pick it of her own accord, GM preferences aside.
Isidoros -- She's spent so damn long trying to hide, it'd feel good to maybe assert her own right to be happy.
This, I think, definitely would appeal to her, though it's less clear how well it fits her. Someone she wants to be, but someone she's not sure on how to get there.
Her approach in canon as well has some resonance, once she went Warlord.
Metagaos -- She's already good at the wallflower schtick. And at being deceptively unalarming up until your blood is on her metaphorical hands. See also the meme regarding "Meh. I can take her."
Only the cannibalism charms would put her off a bit I think.
Otherwise quite attractive.
Kimbery -- From a practical standpoint, she lives in a freaking bay. And she already knows many of Kimbery's lessons from her own life.
High on both affinity and appeal. She both lives it, and sees nothing wrong with it. Considers the traits admirable.

Not much in the way of outright undesirable powersets for her either
Szoreny -- Szoreny's patient precision and use of enemies' strengths against them also dovetails nicely into canon!Taylor's m.o.
Appeals, and also traits that she would consider good things.
Hey, she has a reason to take trascendent desert creature.

No more waste products from the body! No more bathroom breaks!
That IS pretty handy, but I'm not sure if she'd go for it just to never poop again.

Huh. This, THIS I think she'd like:
-Fitting themes with SWLIHN combos
-Callback to Annette and thus memories of better days
-Option to be someone who's not Taylor Hebert, notice how in Worm canon, she wound up living full time as Skitter even before she was exposed?
-Few themes outright anathema to modern sensibilities.

I think you got me sold on Elloge. As long as we avoid the Blasphemy stuff.

Now that I've looked through Elloge's Charms I think I'm going to make it a goal to have Tears and Roses as one of our abilities, just so we can gain a reputation as a "cockroach". On a different note could we create Charms branching off the Read into Things tree that would allow us to gain control of or create copies of things we've turned into words or something that would allow us to imitate abilities or attacks we've analyzed. I'm imagining us walking around with a book filled with past enemies and tinker-tech we've encountered possibly while using some Heretical Charms combining SWLIHN's and Elloge's tendencies to analyze then replicate or counter enemy abilities and attacks before absorbing them into a predefined structure. If anyone has read the manga Soul Eater, more specifically the parts concerning the Book of Eibon you should have some idea of the concept I'm imagining, the only question now is whether such a Charm loadout would suit Taylor.

Is it odd that I tend to picture Vista as looking a lot like Maddie Ziegler? There's just a ferocity and intensity to her dancing and performances that I picture Missy having in general.

EDIT: Plus the ages actually line up for Vista at Worm's start and Maddie in the two videos I linked.

Why can't we take this and the other charms like this without challenging the Simurgh? As far as I understand it's some kind of precognitive telekinesis, which is indeed the Simurgh's thing. But why would she come after us if we don't interfere with her long-term plans? She hasn't gone after other precogs or telekinetics in canon?
