Incident Eliph at Kianid [Original Weird War Fantasy/Horror Quest]

OH PLEASE FUCKING GOD WHY HAVOC YOU SICK FUCK

[X] Track down the captain's logbook. You need to know what happened here. You need to know now.

Welp. There's a good chance that this is a mutually exclusive vote and frak, if it didn't sound like some SAN checks were getting rolled. Man of the hour is definitely Arslan. He is the monster hunter of the platoon for a good reason.

[X] There may be more of those…things aboard the ship. Perhaps better hidden than this one. Search and destroy.

It niggles me that we might not learn the truth of what the hell happened here but the implication that one of these abominations could get out of the sub or the established perimeter is... not a possibility that I want to ruminate on.

One question, @Havocfett, how fresh was the first body that we saw?

Within a few days, probably before the thing beached, though.

We're all going to die. Onward we go.

....Great. So this wasn't a 'fresh' event. Utterly lovely. Probably wouldn't be any survivors either, unless they happen to be a) Russian Doom Guy or b) raving paranoid survivalist.

....With that in mind, I am going to go back on my word.

Had Tenfold's plan not won, I would have been more hesitant with switching the vote but we have one team looking at the wreck and another scoping the perimeter out. And if there happens to be any of the horror-shows passing through... they likely already frakked off before we arrived.

told you man, i fuckin' told you

nazi roman necromorphs and false hydra. every. goddamn. time.

and you guys wanted to send in the squad of fresh meat ;v

Our other men heard the gunshots and, uh, the screaming. They know shit is up, that this isn't just a deserted derelict and they know to be wary and between First Squad being generally badass and Fourth Squad having more-or-less active scanners I think it'll be pretty hard for the monsters to take them down. Which means that the risk is more monsters surviving and escaping than our men dying but we're already looking at an outbreak scenario so to a degree that ship has sailed, sank, and washed up onshore full of fucked up Russian necromorphs.

It's worth noting I think that it's heavily implied this was an extended process. Over the course of we-don't-know-how-long the crew descended into infighting, someone shot our boy in the conning tower (maybe he himself), crew members very probably in the initial stages of exposure escaped, and the corpses were progressively picked clean of needed "parts". What's more: someone stitched the Captain-Monster into the controls. Someone wanted him to steer it somewhere, very probably here, cannibalized everything he didn't need so he could do all the piloting by himself and he did.

I think more than an accidental contamination this was a deliberately engineered plague ship. But by who we don't really know. It could be a faction of desperate Russians, possibly Italian industrial-necromancers even though the MO's wrong, Ottomans who fucked around with something they didn't understand and it blew up in their faces, or something much, much worse. Right now we know virtually nothing about our enemy save that they can be purpose built, they're durable enough on their own, and they're Fucking Horrifying.

We need to know if our men are at risk of infection or contamination, we need to know what the early-mid stage signs of the process looks like, and we need to know what the Russian's original mission was. We need at least an idea of where this came from and how it spreads since it's very very fucking plausible that we're going to be looking at an island that's overrun within a matter of weeks if not days. And then we rally up everyone and we bail the fuck out of here.

Christ I regret sending Second Squad out by themselves to look for survivors but not as much as I'm glad that we had our two best squads on this and then a solid perimeter with Third. Second might get ganked by something nasty that got off the boat but it's unlikely that anything else that comes charging out will make it far. Flipside now we know why scanning for swimmers and passing civilians was a concern but, tbh, I feel way better with every gun focused on this fucking thing atm.

Aha

Ahahahahahahahahaha

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OH GOD WHY

It's still a viable plan. Fighting The Things is a good experience booster... if you happen to be alive at the end of it :V

Oziri: "Horrifying but by God this propwork is fantastic."
Arslan: "Mn."
Oziri: "You just don't see these sorts of practical effects that often anymore."
Arslan: "Mnm."
Oziri: "But just...why go through all that trouble and then cover it up with this CGI?"
*Arslan eyes the glitching out green-screen goop puddling beneath the Captain-Monster, the necromorph chitters something about "studio mandates" and "investor concerns"*
*Arslan shoots it again, shrugs.*

So, from what we can see, it looks like something was stripping down corpses (plus bits of the sub) and using them to build twisted bio-mechanical abominations.

If we're lucky, we only need to find whatever is making these things and shoot it in the face (assuming it has one). If we're unlucky, all of the abominations have the desire to reproduce by killing people and stripping them for flesh parts.

So, there are probably a couple of these things on the island, going around looking for people to murder and make into more walking necromantic warcrimes. Hopefully the 2nd and the 3rd are fine.

Hey guys what's going on in this thre- boy that escalated quickly.

Though my first instinct is to kill everything with fire and salt what's left, Ten raises an excellent point that we brought the best we have, including ourselves with the shiny wargear and Arslan who presumably left his Charge Blade at home as hero characters. And more to the point, at this early stage, when we're already too late to the party, intel is everything.

Obviously we do want to shoot every one of the weird flesh monsters, but hopefully the logbook will give us some idea of why and how there are flesh monsters in the first place. Which might tell us whether they're likely to reproduce on their own and whether they have some sort of specific mission or target. In which case we might be able to intercept them.

Put our faith in our men and in God and in all the bullets we will pump into these abominations.

The logbook isn't going to run away, but whatever these creatures are might.

And of course the missing folding boat means that someone got off this ship.

Allah preserve us...

This ship didn't just wash up 10 minutes ago. Anything mobile and willing to leave has already done so. Anything still here... we need to know more about before we get sucked into becoming it's newest limb.
And of course the missing folding boat means that someone got off this ship.
I really, really hope that was uninfected/unmutated crewmembers escaping the Hell the boat had become, and not the more mobile monsters going for a sail...

The issue is well...we don't know whats the creatures or the replicating unit look like. Its important if they got a Queen or a Tinker making more, if they are parasitic convertors or if they spawn like gremlins in water.

Blind hunt won't nail that

Queen or tinker??

Did I miss a content update about how Incident world works somewhere?

Basically I think they mean to say that we don't know whether whatever precipitated this whole mess is the only creature capable of producing more of these abominations, or whether all of its offspring are capable of making more of themselves.

That said, I seriously doubt we'll get that kind of information from the captain's logbook (because how the fuck would the captain know how these things reproduce) but we should still be able to get some useful information (like the capabilities of whatever spawned this mess).

I imagine if nothing else it'll tell us when the folding boat got launched.
