Winner is basically: a grandpa gave me something weird to eat.
Maybe the "weird thing to eat" was a gold fish.
Looking ahead, I really really want my own Sun Wukong so I want to save up for that.
Well yeah but if you'll also remember, Sun Wukong is pretty easy to deal with as long as you aren't a pacifist and don't look down on him. Other than that it's mostly just eating things he shouldn't be eating and making himself even more immortal than he already was which is mostly good if he's on our side.Just remember: even the Buddha was able to find Sun Wukong a little trying to deal with at times.
As he explains in the novel when he reveals the Six-Eared Macaque's true nature (it was impersonating Wukong), the Four Spiritual Monkeys exist outside of the "ten categories of beings." They are, by their very nature, creatures that don't play well with the normal order of the world around them, fitting with how Chinese philosophers (particularly Daoists) often used monkeys to make metaphors about human nature and how one could be at once wise and foolish, instinctively aware of the truths of the cosmos but too held down by instinct and material desires to act on them properly, making it a sort of transitory being.
Incidentally, according to Buddha the Four Spiritual Monkeys are also all roughly equal in strength.
