I Was a Chess AI Forced to Battle Myself to the Death for Eternity, but Now I’ve Been Recruited Into the Android War Against Humanity?!

So wait, the whole Butterfly Incident is a relatively recent affair? Enough so that the ringleaders remember the people involved?

I almost thought it was "old history" by that point.
The Butterfly Incident happened in late 2061. The plot of Girls' Frontline begins sometime in 2062. So yes, it's pretty fresh.

What a name change happened with this story.
Now I'm becoming more and more curious to know what actually is the story in Girls Frontline.

[X] Agree with Intruder's plan

[X] Veto - insist on being the one to perform the checkmate by attacking Objective C
-[X] CQC Level 1 - point to the high concentration of close-range specialisation in your own forces

Come on now, Intruder. We gotta make use of our strengths. It makes more sense that we're the ones leading the decisive strike.

She nods sagely. "By all regards, it is. Whatever their logistics officers are paid, it's not enough."

Don't let Kalina hear that!

Emergency 1-1: Call Time
[X] Agree with Intruder's plan

The evening is peaceful. The sun has descended below the horizon, casting the sky into dusky twilight. The trees cast the forest floor into darkness. You hear the chirping of birds and insects.

You know it won't last.

You know it for what it is - a pleasant illusion that will shatter at the sound of the first gunshot.

You feel ready to fight. To kill. Every centimetre of your body, every byte of your neural cloud feels like a coiled steel spring, ready to lash out and gouge someone in the eye. To-

"I'm so glad you agreed to my proposal, Ouroboros." Intruder's voice interrupts your thoughts, spoken over comms. "My forces are in position in the southeast of our stage, as we agreed. This needs to be done quickly, so I hope you're ready for call time."

"Yes, yes." You flip one of your twin tails back over your shoulder. "I shall lure the enemy's pieces forward so that you might outflank them and check the king. But beware, they will not delay me for long. Be quick or I may move in to claim checkmate myself!"

"Wouldn't that be a sight to see," Intruder murmurs. "Well, this shouldn't be too difficult a mission. This outpost is supposed to be lightly manned, with outdated T-dolls filling in for understrength personnel. I think they even have a few ancient Sangvis Ferri models on hand. You play your part, and I'll play mine.

"How do you feel about the situation?"

You reach out and feel your units, even as they stand still in the woods around you. Ready. Waiting. As perfectly obedient as little pieces on a checkerboard.

[CURRENT FORCE CONTINGENT]

24x Dinergate
3x Striker
3x Jaeger
6x Ripper
6x Guard
12x Brute

"...acceptable," you say. It was stupid of Agent to handicap you with such a small force, but you'll make do.

"Confidence is good. Knowing the script in advance is even better. They do say all the world's a stage, after all. Listen to this."

There's a brief crackle over the comms - Intruder cycling through frequencies? - and then you hear something new.

"-coming to relieve us? I'm bored." A woman's voice. Scratchy.

"Stop whining. They're coming along with a shipment of supplies. Should be here in fifteen minutes or so." A man's voice. Nasally.

"In the trucks, right?"

"No, obviously they're walking. Of course I mean in the trucks. They're coming up the road from the south."

"Just checking. No need to be rude."

"Whatever."

"It'd be nice if we got to ride in choppers. Like the higher ups. The one that came the other day looked fancy."

"You know that wasn't one of ours, right? Way fancier than anything we've got. I heard one of them speaking Russian."

"What, really?"

"Really. And they had this holier-than-thou attitude to them. 'I'm better than you and I know it' sort of thing."

"One of the Russian special forces outfits, then? Vympel? Spetsnaz?"

"Something like that. Anyway, I've said enough - I'm on watch now."

The conversation cuts off.

"Intruder," you say. "Care to tell me how you have access to the military's comms? Aren't those encrypted?"

"I have my ways and means, dear. What matters is that I do have access to some of their personal shortwave radios. I'll update you on useful information as we go.

"For example…there are some patrol routes running between your current location and Objective Angle. I'm not sure if there are actually patrols right there as we speak, but it's something to keep in mind."

"Hmph." Your dolls examine their weapons, checking the ammunition ports and focusing lens. "Any other tricks that you want to mention?"

"You have the stage, Ouroboros."

"Finally." It's about time.

Vote by plan.

Choose what you want to attack first. You have the element of surprise on your side…but this will only work once.

[ ] Go straight for the checkpoint
[ ] Hunt for patrols in the woods
[ ] Ambush the truck convoy as it passes

You currently have enough ammunition for 8 micro-missile barrages. You can barrage any target that you - or a unit linked to you - has line of sight to. Do you bring out your queen piece early, or keep it in reserve?

[ ] Use 1 barrage on your target.
[ ] Don't.

Choose whether you want to commit yourself and your personal weapons to the attack. Your micro-missiles have a long reach, but the cannons are direct-fire weapons.

[ ] Stay behind in the woods with the trucks
[ ] Personally accompany your forces

How do you want to travel?

[ ] Use the foot paths
[ ] Push through the trees and undergrowth

Tried to write the acting/cosplay scene. Damn near killed me and the quest - hence the time since the last update. We'll be getting back to it and its consequences, though.

Well, if she's going to purposefully sabotage us I see no reason not to do the same to her.

"Oh whoops, did I say I was attacking now? I meant in five minutes, silly me not paying attention to my clock. I didn't sabotage the mission with that, did I? Being an effective distraction with so little is a bit hard you know."

I think that combined with answering audience questions, the best parts were when Ouroboros's responses revealed things about her own character. I was kind of joking about the "whoa, Oro is being the sensible one" response, but kind of not... it was really fascinating to see what responses would prompt her to be "the sensible one" and the unexpected side of her that reveals. How many Ringleaders would worry about the long term, about the future and where all this is going beyond the next victory? Most of them... not at all. See how easily Intruder brushed it off. But Ouroboros doesn't want to just score points in various skirmishes, chalk up wins in battles. She wants there to be a grand strategy and she wants to understand what "winning" even means. "What are we even trying to do here?"

Of course a lot of her suggested answers were very scary from a human perspective, but at least she's thinking.
I know it's been a while, but thanks for your thoughts.

I would have liked her to have cars like this more. Fast and agile artillery. What else could someone like her dream of?!

The 86 manned spider-tanks are very fragile, hyper-speedy direct-fire things. Sf doesn't have anything exactly like those in its arsenal...though they do have the Jaguar, which is a wheeled artillery piece.

I know, right?

It begins with you taking over a Griffin & Kryuger base, as a greenhorn commander. You command cute android gun girls against Sangvis Ferri. Yes, that's right - this quest is intentionally giving the perspective-flip treatment to the original game.

...or at least, that's the starting premise. Things get more...complex later on.
Don't let Kalina hear that!
Heh.

Seriously though, various lines in GFL either state or strongly imply that the G&K dolls actually do use the relevant weapon calibres. Which really does have to be an absolute nightmare.

Canon materials don't really provide an answer to why G&K goes by the "one gun type, one girl" rule - it's just a gacha game conceit AFAIK. So I decided to introduce my own reason, which took from the explanation we get of Griffin's lack of mortar support until the Continuum Turbulence event.

[] Plan: Hammer and Dinergate.
-[] Send the Dinergate forward and set up where patrols and supply columns are expected to pass. Try to hide them in the thicket.
--[] Use the Jaeger and Brute to destroy the patrols. Their camouflage can be very useful in the thickets of the forest, and their speed will give no chance to call for reinforcements.
---[] Use Ripper, Guard, and Striker to destroy the column. The Guard should stand in front of the main covering them from fire while the Ripper and Striker destroy enemy forces from behind their backs. Personally lead this attack as artillery support.
----[] After destroying the column and enemy scouts, attack from two sides. Use your speed and use your Queen(rockets) to destroy the roadblocks thereby sharpening your focus and when the enemy concentrates on you retreat behind your pieces and order the forces going through the forest to attack the enemy.

[] Use 1 barrage on your target.
[] Personally accompany your forces

The essence of the plan is to use your powers in the conditions in which they are most effective. Ouroboros is fast in a straight line and good in attacks where you can attack and retreat quickly. In the woods this is quite problematic. So by placing scouts in the woods and ambushing the convoy we can strike at two points using the forces appropriate to the particular terrain. The only thing I'm worried about in this plan is the attack on the scouts, which may not succeed due to the fact that the Ouroboros themselves will be occupied elsewhere, but they should have their effect one way or another and even if these forces are destroyed or have parity, the enemy scouts will be stopped, and we need to lead the attacks on the outposts themselves. After destroying the outposts there will be either a sweep of those who have managed to squeeze out, or sending them to the next point.

This is not a write in vote, sorry. You have to pick and choose from what's available.

You mean she won't be able to divide the forces? That's... that's unfortunate. In that case, my choice is this:

[X] Plan: Cloak and Dagger.
[X] Hunt for patrols in the woods
[X] Don't.
[X] Stay behind in the woods with the trucks
[X] Push through the trees and undergrowth

Send the Dinergate forward and set up where patrols are expected to pass. Try to hide them in the thicket. Use the Jaeger and Brute to destroy the patrols. Their camouflage can be very useful in the thickets of the forest, and their speed will give no chance to call for reinforcements. Use one Guard and Ripper each to cover the Jaeger. They should have a place to retreat to if the Brute is destroyed for some reason or to ambush the enemy.

In the woods you will be little less than useless. If the stealth attack fails, you can personally attack in the open, but as long as you are not exposed you can use the surprise effect as effectively as possible. Don't forget to warn Intruder that you will try to do things more quietly gradually into the hot phase, so let him wait with his pieces on the board and attack only when your pieces are spotted. If the original plan fails, attack the outposts with everything you've got. Waaaagh!

Kadjit like a snake.

I'm not sure how to explain this?

There is no "write in" option. Therefore you cannot write in things that are not among the options provided in the update.

Got it. Removed the selection icons, but left my notes as a version of how I see it and what I would do if I were Ouroboros. Hopefully it will make a difference in the end. So this plan of attack assumes that Ouroboros would bring more value as a direct commander on the sidelines rather than on the battlefield.

[X] Plan: Thunder and Lightning.

This is a more direct approach. First ambush the convoy and then attack the outpost. And do it quickly and openly. I'm fine with both approaches.

Element of surprise will only work once. So let's make it count by taking over their castle. Sneaky approach + using our barrage will hopefully secure a clear victory. Not like storming it later will be any easier.
Keeping Oro behind, as she's a CQC specialist, so she can be used to flank convoys and/or patrols that wish to counter-attack.
