Holding Out For A Hero: An Original Superhero Quest

Napalm Grenades Part 3
As you get closer, you know you recognize the armor. You've fought someone in armor with a similar design and color scheme. Granted, that person was just a mook, but the woman in front of you is higher in the totem pole.

When researching villains, you saw a few examples of people working for them, each with their own style. There was Jackpot's suit wearing cronies, Mr. 13's hockey masked skinhead hangers on, The black and white outfits that Pentagon's subordinates wear when he uses outside help. But you remember the red, and white color scheme that Ordinance's crew uses. And how her Lieutenants incorporate black into their outfits to show their rank. This particular lieutenant is named Artillery. She's one of Ordinance's most skilled lieutenants. She has a literal arsenal in her hammerspace.

You summon a reflective barrier, expecting her to shoot you. But instead of shooting you, she fires an under-barrel grenade at you. You see the grenade sail through the air, illuminated by the yellow street lights in your neighborhood. Your first barrier fades from existence, and you summon another one just as the grenade hits. As soon as the grenade hits your geometrically shaped barrier, it is engulfed in a white light, and shot back at Artillery like a bullet.

Artillery hits the ground as the light sails over her head. The light hits the street behind her, causing an explosion that takes out the takes out part of the street. Artillery starts to get up, but you're on her before she does.

You leap off of your motorcycle, and go for a flying tackle to pin her down. In a move not unlike a the wrestling move The Spear, you slam into the woman's midsection and pin her to the ground.

"You can either go to jail, or you can go to jail with a broken arm. Don't try it" You say in you "male" voice.

"God damn, a weekend warrior?"Artillery says. You can almost hear her roll her eyes.

She summons a jump boot on one foot, and slams it into the ground, sending you both flying through the air. You tuck and roll, managing to land more or less safely, even if you scraped your armor in the fall. Artillery lands in front of you and summons a large shotgun with a drum magazine in it. She holds it in one hand and takes aim.

"Shoulda left it to the pros, kid" She says. You summon a barrier just as she pulls the trigger. The gun fires at a rate more familiar to assault rifles. The first several shots shell cracks your barrier before one finally pierces, shattering the barrier. At least one shot hits you in the side and you suck in some air between your teeth.

You roll to the side and scramble to your feet as she keeps firing. The pellets hitting the brickwork and front door of the house behind you. Before you can attack Artillery, you see Sunspot flying back towards her, fireball in each hand.

The Hero shoots a stream of flame at Artillery, not unlike a flamethrower. Artillery whips around and summons an energy shield on her left arm. The metal gauntlet projects a bright blue barrier, protecting her from the flames. The shotgun disappears in a white light, but in it's place, a strange looking pistol appears. It looks almost like a gun from a sci-fi series that Jasmine showed you before. You don't know what it does. You don't know if she's going to shoot you or Sunspot, but you don't want to give her the chance.

[] Write in your attack.

By the way what criminal organizations are in Hartford and what State is Hartford in? Are there any confrontations between the different criminal factions? Like is there Mob, Biker Gang, Drug Runners, and other such activities going on?

@Agent 99

By the way what criminal organizations are in Hartford and what State is Hartford in?
There's a number of small time gangs which are sometimes used/sponcered by larger players. There's the Coalition, which is an alliance of three different mobs (Classic Italian mob, an American branch of the Yakuza, and an American mafia). There's a few rent-a-mook organizations, there are some independent villains that often operate out of Hartford like Ordinance and Jackpot that are wealthy enough to have their own organizations. There's the Posse Civis, and other organizations of "Free men of the land" that have started recruiting in Hartford. The Church of Scientology has a temple downtown. There are Cartels from south of the border that make a lot of money selling drugs and guns in Hartford.

and what State is Hartford in?
Texas

There are confrentations between minor players all the time. But for organizations important to have a name, The Cartels, The Coalition for control for years and Ordinence's Organization have been fighting for years. The three families within the Coalition are officially allies, but they've taken pot shots at each other over the years. And independent villains go after each other all the time. Whether it's because one has something the other wants, they want to bring the other villain down a peg, or even just for the thrill.

Texas. Here I was thinking we were in the running for craziest person in Massachusetts!

Does the Coalition traffic drugs or are they like the American Mib if older that refused to get into that business?

Thinking about showing a scene where a member of the mob who was paying the coalition gets whacked by someone like a villain or the Cartel.

If you ever saw the Gidfather it's kinda like that scene where Sonny stops at a toll gate and has a bunch of cars shoot at him with a Tommy guns.

Except this time it's automatic weapons.

One of the three heads of the Coalition, the Contanti Crime Family don't get involved in drug trafficing. They're lead by a very traditional leader, a man named Anton Contanti, who is actively against it. There are members of his inner circle who disagree, of course. s for how closely they follow that rule...

The heads of the Coalition have a policy of letting each head handle affairs in their own turn, and not making any messes in each other's territory, so the other two heads direct their underlings not to sell in Contanti's territory and Contanti lets the other two sell drugs in their own territory.

Omake - High Stakes

It was an uneventful Thursday as the rain poured down in the early evening on Harford. Traffic was getting long as the people of Hartford went home or drive to there second job. I sat in the car with my iPad open to me reading over some news and checking in on emails from work. In front of me my Chauffeur and his friend rode in the front driving to work and working as my security detail.

Not something out of the ordinary for a well made Executive of Gambling Company here in Texas. Nevada may have the strip but Hartford had me, Daniel Bishop, running the place. The companies portfolio was rich with diversity and owned the market enough to expand. Or just take it easy and live his life from his Penthouse. The Contanti were sure to keep backing him in the Board too no matter what the Ethics people in the company had to say about it.

"Oh shit" the Driver said in a hushed breath. Probably looking down into the traffic again. Hartford really does need better highways. What the hell do taxes even to go these days? It sure as hell can't be the School system.

I flip through my calendar to see what Maria put in for the rest of the Month. It was all standard stuff with Division Meetings and some Industry shows she was booking for me.

"Get down!"

Looking up from the Tablet I see some guy on the road and in the rain with a Black Rifle. It was long and the rifle...what was he-

---------------------------------

*Several Hours Later*

"Today in Hartford a gun men attacks a car on the Express Bridge. The Gunmen wore clothing and insignia that the Police are confirming to be part of the Villain Ordinance's Gang. Two men died of internal bleeding with a third in critical condition with an additional casualty of a man driving to the side where a possible rounds ricocheted from the outside.

Police have yet to determine the identity of the gun men as authorities deal with a spike of street conflict this month...."

---------------------------------

Inside the room Daniel was laid out in the bed berating with the help of a machine. The worst was over as Daniel rested and was taken care of by the finest medical services his money could reserve. The news hit me hard that the families top earner in legitimate business was almost assassinated by Ordinance.

The fault in the lapse of security fell to me as well as my business partners. None of us wanted the sit-down we were going to have to go through to explain the loss of revenue or vulnerabilities that led to this. And yet, This business demanded that one of us to take the fall for the almost assured death of Mr. Bishop.

My phone rang and I quickly to see an invite on WhatsApp for a group meeting between the other two. Seems there was at least a potential opportunity for unity and group survival here.

Ordinance was going to pay dearly for this inconvenience he was putting us through and his little gun men were going to be sent to God himself to be sorted out. Hartford belongs to the Contanti and nothing happens without our permission fuck whatever else the world has to say.

Alright, looks like we're going in for Melee. I need someone to roll Broadsword. And I have one more vote. Whether you want Sonya to go for something less than lethal, or if you want her to go in for the kill.

[] Less lethal (Aim for the arms/legs.)
[] Lethal (Go for the torso/head)

@Agent 99 Artillery is using lethal weaponry and trying to kill us right?

Edit: Rolling for Broadsword.
Oshha threw 3 6-faced dice. Reason: Broadsword Total: 15
5 5 6 6 4 4

If everyone else wants, I can apply All Out: Determined to the roll. This subtracts 4 from the roll so it'll pass. But Sonya will also give up her defenses for the next round.

How likely are we to need our defences if we hit Artillery?

[X] Lethal (Go for the torso/head)

You're only gurenteed an opportunity to get one hit in. Unless you can hit her in the unarmored head, it's going to take at least two.

Is this a viable vote? Edit: And how lethal would it be if we succeed?

[] Go for the head.
-[] Use All Out: Determined.

Artilery has herself to blame for death. She recklesslesy endangered others, distributed firearms to anyone for monetary purposes, and more than likely has a track record of extreme violence. Run with Wolves, Sleep with Wolves.

Hopefully we can at least take the others in via a capture and they can spill the beans on Ordinance. Plus him losing a person could force him out to the open to do his own dirty work. A target worthy of capture imo.
