Holding Out For A Hero: An Original Superhero Quest

Choosing to improve our Mystic Arts stat helps with not failing Mystic Arts rolls and we choose not to do that. Trying to loop hole around that now is just trying to have our cake and eat it.

Then whatever is the use of studying magic then?

This is like reading a cooking book then ignoring whatever we read and cooking things at random hoping we make something good.

Studying magic is this:
[] Meditate and Study Magic. (Increases Mystic Arts)

We do not have the option to that in this current vote. So studying magic and improving our ability to use magic is useful. We do not have the option to do that right now.

We already know why those things happened. They were the results of bad rolls.
Out of universe, yes. But in universe, there are reasons for those particular effects at those times.

-[X] The state fair is about a week away. Buy some tickets to the state fair. (Costs .25 tickets and expenses for the day)
[X] You'll keep taking orders and making sculptures anyway, but you could focus more on your business. (Roll Metalworking. Gain Savings Depending on success)

Looks like we still have a tie, so I'm going to vote to break it.

1. "Thaumaturgy: Theory and Practice of the Mystic Arts" By D. G. Porter

2. "Stuffing Money into Briefcases and Other Skills An Accountant Needs" By Anton Contanti

The good news is that the Perception roll was on the button. She barely made it.

But I'm not quite done yet. I still need to roll for a Mook, a Lieutenant, and a Cape.

So the Mook failed his fright check. Hard.

And the Lieutenant missed both shots.

Napalm Grenades Part 1
Meanwhile, several miles away...

An semi truck is barreling down the raised highway that runs across the city, carrying a trailer full of weapons. The front bumper was barely hanging on, a casualty of two police road blocks and pockmarks littered the bottom of the ca and the passenger's side door, efforts of the police to shoot out the tires or kill the passenger. Inside, there are two occupants, a man and a woman. The driver, the man, is wearing a red, white and tan uniform with a balaclava, a heavy jacket, and a harness with a pistol under each arm.

The dark skinned woman is in the passenger's seat. She's wearing a costume with a black and white bodysuit, red gloves, boots, harness, armored pads, goggles and facemask. She has her hair in a dreadlock ponytail. The highway behind them was practically lit with red and blue lights because of the cop cars behind them.

"Where the fuck did these guys come from?!" The man screamed as the semi barreled down the highway.

"EYES ON THE ROAD!" The woman yelled. "If we don't shake these guys Ordinence is gonna be pissed!"

"What do you think I'm trying to do, Artillary?!" The driver shouted. Artilary lowered her window and leaned out of the car. With half her body out of the cab, she held out her hand. A weapon materialized in her hand from nowhere, a machine pistol. She fired at the nearest cop car, and instead of plinking off of the hood, the bullets tore through the engine block

As Artillary was about to take aim again, she saw a glowing light in the distance. She looked to the north, towards downtown, and saw someone barreling towards them at a high speed.

It was a man. 6 feet tall, blonde, muscled, and with a ball of fire in each hand. He was wearing a yellow and white costume, with a dark red flame emblazoned in the center of the torso. He shot at the semi like a homing missle.

Artillary's eyes widened. It was Sunspot. "Dammit... DAMMIT DAMMIT!" She screamed as she dismissed her now-empty weapon and summoned another one. She fired at the Sunspot, but he ducked and weaved, avoiding the bullets as he got closer.

As she glanced at the road in front of them, she saw that this section of highway was curving, and the semi needed to turn with it.

"Turn" The woman said sternly as she fired another burst from her machine pistol. Sunspot flew out of the way of the shot as he flew parallels to the truck. He said something that Artillary couldn't hear before tossing the fireball at the tires at the back of the trailer. Six of the tires burst into flame and the trailer started to sag, not being dragged on the ground.

"TURN!" She screamed. But the mook was frozen, his hands holding on to the wheel in a death grip. The semi kept barreling forward threatening to crash through the concrete barrier.

"FUCK IT" With a kick, Artillary sent the man flying out of the driver's side door bouncing off of the hood of a cop car just behind. Artillary grabbed the steering wheel and tried to pull it to the left. But the vehicle wobbled, and tipped to the side, the connection between the cab and trailer snapped, both crashing through the concrete towards the street below.

The semi landed with a crash, snapping the front axle. The trailer landed at an angle and snapped off. The cab skidded through two lanes of traffic, over a curb and plows into several cars in a pharmacy parking lot before coming to a stop. Sunspot flies in the path of the trailer rolled over, flying in front of it to slow the multi ton piece of metal down, barely stopping it from crashing into several cars at a nearby stoplight.

Artillery pushes the airbag out of her way and opened the passanger's side door and collapsed on the ground. She held her head as she looked around, taking in her surroundings. She was in the parking lot of a pharmacy. A few civilian cars were already driving away, with a few particularly brave people in the pharmacy filming from inside. There were a few stores on the corners of the intersection, and a huge shopping center up ahead. The semi was totaled, and she she'd need time to get the guns. Time she didn't have. She had to escape.

As she looked up, Sunspot was floating in the air in front of her. He had a smile on his face as he looked down.

"So, that's weapons smuggling, attempted murder of a police officer, reckless endangerment, and worst of all, littering" Sunspot says, gesturing at the cab.
"And let me guess, you're planning on adding resisting arrest and a few more counts of attempted murder to the charges, aren't you"

"You know it" Artillary said as she held out a hand. A grenade launcher appeared in her hand in a flash of light and she held it with one hand.

She pulled the trigger, sending a grenade at the Cape.

-----------------------------------

It was getting late and you had spend most of the day in and out of the library, barring a trip next door to get some lunch, and picking up Gwen from school. The library is mostly abandoned, with only the librarian and a sleeping homeless man there.

As you're reading, your phone starts to vibrate. You glance up, but no one seems to care. After a few rings, Adrian picks up. "Hey there Honey."

"I'm heading back soon, and it is Friday. I wanted to know if you and Gwen wanted me to pick up anything on my way back"

"Hmmm, well, Gwen's the one in charge, so I'll ask her if she wants anything"

You hear him put the phone down and for a moment, you hear his and Gwen's voices in the background. While you're waiting, you hear the phone vibrating, but you don't think much of it, and keep reading about finance. A few seconds later, Adrian picks up the phone.

"Well, Gwen wants something from Catfish Carl's"

"Then she's get something from Catfish Carl's" You say with a smile. "I'll get a family pack and be back in about... 10 minutes. Maybe 15"

"Alright, see you then, Honey" Adrian says. At this time, there's a loud explosion in the background, so loud that you can hear it on your end of the phone. You nearly summon your armor right there but you keep your head for now.

"Adrian! Adrian are you okay?! Is Gwen okay?!" You practically shout. If anyone is paying attention to you, you don't care.

"I'm... I'm fine. We're both fine" Adrian says. But you can hear the worry in his voice.

"Daddy! What was that?" You hear in the background.

"It's... remember what Mommy and I said we'd do if there's danger?" Adrian says. You hear a quiet yes in the background.

You know what Adrian is talking about. You had both talked about what to do if there was a Cape fight in the area. There's two ways out of your neighborhood. There was the way east leading to the main road that ran north and south. There was the southern entrance that takes you to the road that was in between the neighborhood and the new shopping center. If you went west from there, there were a few roads you could use to get away, including a highway. Well, there's a third way if you made your way to the north part of your neighborhood, went through some trees and hopped the fence. You all had made sure you knew how to leave quickly if you had to, since you can't afford a panic room.

"Right, we're going to Grandpa's house right now" Adrian says to Gwen.

You hear another explosion on the other end of the line. This one sounds a lot closer.

"And Honey, if you... I love you, Sonya. I just want you to know that. Goodbye"

"Be careful, mommy!" Gwen says.

"I'll see you soon. I love you both" You say before you hang up. By now, you're out the door. You could go there and help your family escape. Or at least meet them at your dad's house.

But... yours isn't the only family there is there. And if things go wrong, you might not have a home to go back to. If you showed up as The Vigil, you could take the fight to… whatever was going on.

[] Go over there as Vigil and fight Artillery.
[] Go over there as Sonya to make sure your family is alright.
[] Write in.

I origionally had a scene where Jasmine was the one that let Sonya know about the fight, but I decided that it would be kind of redundant and wouldn't add much to the story, so I left it out.

Who's Artillery again?

[X] Go over there as Vigil and fight Artillery.

Not that it matters we are a Hero after all and we need to beat up bad guys on the way to living our awesome lives as #1 Mom.

Who's Artillery again?
She's a lieutenant working for Ordinance. Her power is basically Hammerspace. She has a pocket dimension that she can store and retrieve objects.

You only rolled low enough to get the villains themselves, not their associates, but you'd recognize the color scheme on both of their outfits that they probably are associates.

You don't know it, but she's a lieutenant working for Ordinance. Her power is basically Hammerspace. She has a pocket dimension that she can store and retrieve objects.
So, you have a character whose power is Hammerspace, a power that she specifically utilizes to store weaponry, and she decides to smuggle guns by putting them in a truck?

Well maybe we can capture her for the police and then they can go for the rest of her boss's operation. Gun smuggling is dangerous.

The problem is, she might able to store away our armor, shield and sword if she touches us.

So we should fight her at distance and try to knock her out. Since we have no clue how our teleport things spell will react with things stored in her pocket space.

We do have some lightning powers so that can be used. We should definitely be careful though.
