Holding Out For A Hero: An Original Superhero Quest

I just wanted o know if you want to vote for being Chariable to be a Quirk or a Disadvantage. I figured that you might have put both on there by mistake. If you really want to vote for both and it doesn't matter to you which one wins,, that's fine.

I don't mind which one wins hence why I voted for both. Both are equally interesting and fitting for Sonya in my opinion.

Alright, looks like we have a winner. Now, before the next update, I'm asking that someone roll Will. If the roll doesn't succeed, then Sonya will gain the Quirk Charitable.

If no one wants to roll in around 48 hours, then Sonya will gain the Quirk automatically.

Interlude, a message from Kachuusha
The Vigil,

I saw how you took on Artillary last night! Taking out a Villain right under a Hero's nose, getting away and all without taking a scratch? I had a great feeling about you ever since you shocked that werewolf guy back on the bridge! I'll admit, I wanted to make sure that you wouldn't end up like Spur or those Desert Punks out west.

I still remember that you wanted to meet up. Keep up the good work, and maybe we can work together. I have a couple of things in mind that we could work together on.

I want to give you a tip. If you can, learn some martial arts. Some way of fighting that more technical than swinging at someone and hoping they go down. I know, why learn a fancy way of putting down some bad guys when you can flatten them with a punch. Or fry them with some magic? Thing is, that works against a normie, but if you're up against someone just as strong as you, knowing what you're doing could save your life. If you have super strength, maybe try Hapkido, or even studying Out-Boxing or Judo. Just so you have something else in your arsenal.

Looking forward to seeing you later.

Kachuusha

Sunday September 21st
"Huh, so she sent that to me earlier today?" You ask, looking at the message on Jasmine's phone. Underneath your other arm, you're carrying a box that contains some expensive computer parts in it.

"Yup. Looks she's glad you took her advice to get your name on some more headlines." She says. She's behind you, pushing a wheeled office chair with a pair of monitors in them. You're at your base in the mansion outside of town. Jasmine asked you to help her bring some new equipment over there. "You'd better watch out, she might be trying to poach some of your new fans" Jasmine says as she laughs.

You laugh too. You haul the equipment through the mansion to a room near the center of the first floor. Even though it's light outside, you and Jasmine have to use flashlights to make your way through.

"Still, she's managed to stay alive and out of jail for a few years. And she's literally filming herself with a camera crew. I might be able to learn a thing or two from her." You say. "Especially since I'm stepping up on the whole Vigilante thing."

Jasmine nodded. "Yeah. I don't know if I'm gonna be able to help you all the time. Full time job and all that. But if you wanna talk patrol routes, places to go, info on the bastards you're gonna find out there, I'm all ears"

"Let's start with a few neighborhoods south of the river for now. Southlake, Riverpark, Battery Park. Maybe branch out into Trentwood " You say. "I'd rather stick close to home. And I'm less likely to run into a cape this side of the river."

As you keep talking, head into the room where Jasmine is setting up.

-------------------------------

The blaring guitars of an old rick song echo through the room as Jasmine starts setting up the computer, making sure you don't die of heat stroke. You've taken to looking around the sitting room that Jasmine's set up in. It has a large glass window with designs made of gilded metal. The curtains are closed, blocking out the gray clouds covering the sky. There are two moth-eaten couches and a ragged chair surrounding the coffee table whose glass has been shattered long ago. An empty book case lines the same wall as the door. An electric lantern rests on a wooden section of the coffee table, bathing the room in electric blue light.

Jasmine is set up in a corner with a cheap folding table and her setup. In between waiting on software checks, she browses the internet on her phone. You're in the chair, tossing a paperweight you found up and down. You've been talking about stepping up your in particular while Jasmine's been working.

As she waits for the final update, you hit a lull in your conversation, and Jasmine looks at her phone for a few seconds. turns away from her phone and looks at you.

"Hey, you heard about the new Darkwater movie coming out? Apparently it's scheduled for this year"

"Really?" You ask. You're only half interested, mostly wanting something to talk about to break the silence. What's it about?"

"Yeah. It's about a thief who finds a medallion that lets him shrink" Jasmine says. "Don't know more than that. They're keeping a tight lid on the script."

"Eh, never really been into pirate movies." You say. Always get seasick just watching them.

"Yeah, you've always been more into westrens…" Jasmine concedes. "But you should give this one a chance. I heard that it's gonna be lighter than the last few movies. Sort of a breath after... well the last couple. And it's setting up a new character without with a new plotline. I think it'll be a good movie to start off on"

"You say that. But how many of these movies am I gonna need to see to get all the references?"

Before you and Jasmine can continue, the computer finished updating and Jasmine turns back around.

'All units, calling all units. We have a 10-74 at the Starling State Jail. There are at least two suspects. Both are considered armed and dangerous..."

You quickly look up 10-74 on your phone, while the radio keeps talking. Jasmine does the same on her phone "-spects have been identified as Julius Simmons and Phillip Montejo. Suspects are currently headed north on I-695 in a 2015 red Dodge Contender."

You recognize both of those names. They're both Vigilanties, well known ones at that. The first one is Deprived. He got arrested around the same time you were starting out. He doesn't have any powers or even special training. No police experience. No army tour. And he never even carried weapons with him. He'd fight bad guys with whatever he found there.

The other one Is Gangbuster. He fought the street gangs in Battery Park for a while before he went down a while ago. He's former military. Came back home to clean up the streets. Standard stuff. Though the aftermath of his fights have been brutal, to say the least. At least several innocent people were caught in the crossfire.

By the time the web page finishes loading, you confirm that a 10-74 is a prison break.

"You going after them?" Jasmine asks.

"They're gonna have a lot of cops after them." You say. "If they get away, it's gonna make the police look bad"

Before you can add more, you hear another transmission. "10-9 Car 52 November? We could barely hear you"

"Saying again, we have a hostage situation at the Ingenuity Agency Building in Fall Valley. Several former employees have taken several other employees hostage. One of the suspects is confirmed to have psychic powers. Repeat, one of the suspects is a psi."

"10-4. Continue to hold the perimeter. We're working on getting Temple there. Whatever you do, do not have any of your units approach with a mind shield. We don't know the suspect's capabilities"

"Copy that Dispatch. We'll- of. Oh my God! One of the" Then you hear a soft splat sound over the radio. The officer comes back on. He sounds shaken. "One of the hostages, they just went out of a 12th floor window..."

You and Jasmine look at each other. The color drains from Jasmine's face. You feel a pit in your stomach as you think about what you just heard.

"...shit" Is all Jasmine can say as she rubs the sweat from her brow before the scanner springs to life again.

'-potted entering *bbbbbbbbzzzzzzztttt* -asino. Say again, Jackpot was spotted at the *Bzzzzt* *Bzzzzzzzzzz* aven's Wa- *Bzzzzt"

Jasmine looks at the computer with a frown. She lets out a sigh, mixing frustration and resignation. "Can't believe audio's quality is going out already. I knew I should've sourced these parts better."

You shake your head. "I don't think it's on your end. Jackpot can manipulate probability remember? Could be what's causing the audio problems."

"Could also be high usage." Jasmine says, nodding. "Well, if you're going after Jackpot, I'll stay on this end and try to sus out which casino he's after. I think they said Haven's Way, and there're only a few over in that neck of the woods. Either way, I'm gonna help you as much as I can from here"

[] Go to the casino robbery in Haven's Way.
[] Intervene in the hostage situation in Fall Valley
[] Intervene in the prison break
- [] Help Gangbuster and Deprived escape
- [] Help to re-capture Gangbuster and Deprived

Hrrm.
Hostage situation sounds like BAD NEWS and I want none of that. Mind powers is the sort of crap that no-sells people without preparations, and I don't think we have a mind shield.
Haven's Way we COULD try, sure. I've heard it said that one CAN beat probability manipulation by stacking the deck so they strain more...Or we might get turned into yet another lever by which Jackpot lifts himself over insurmountable odds. Not sure.
Lastly, there's the Gang&Deprived situation.
...I'm less keen on getting into that tangle simply because a lack of info means having to take a political stand in a way I'd rather not do. Not yet at least.
[X] Go to the casino robbery in Haven's Way.
We might get clowned on, but so long as we're smart and avoid blindly picking fights we should be good to go...I think.

[X] Go to the casino robbery in Haven's Way.

Low ish risk, low ish reward.

[X] Go to the casino robbery in Haven's Way.

As I recall the goverment heroes have a psychic hero on the payroll. With a mindcontroller around we can so very very easily make things worse for everyone.

In contrast with the breakout - we are working with other vigilantes. Without further information on who the two are outside of... not showing up siding with the police with a vigilante breakout is just self preservation for us. And we do not have anywhere near the organization in place to even think of siding against the police in such an obvious way even if we were so inclined.

Luck Mechanic
Looks like we have a clear winner.

Now that we're going after Jackpot, I'm going to clarify a few things about the Luck mechanics and how it will apply in gameplay.

Jackpot's powers are divided into two catagories. Luck and Super Luck.

Whenever someone rolls a dice, he can spend a Fortune Point. By spending a Fortune Point, he can use Luck, which allows him force two rerolls, and allows him, or rather me, to choose which one applies.

For example, let's say he is shooting at a Cape. He has a guns skill of 11. He rolls a 13 so he'd normally miss.

With Luck, he gets two rerolls and gets a 9 and a 12. He can have the 9 apply to the shoot, which lets him hit.

Luck can also affect other people. If, for example, the Cape tries to dodge and rolls a 7. With Jackpots Luck, the Hero rolls two more times and gets a 9 and an 14. In-universe, the Cape may misjudge where they'd need to go, or Jackpot may jerk his gun to one side, but the shot still hits.

With Super Luck, he spends 5 Fortune Points. But this lets him simply choose the roll. Going back to him shooting, he may roll an 8. But with Super Luck, he chooses to turn it into a 3. This may cause the bullet to go right between the Cape's eyes. Or it may fly past them and hit the police sniper that was about to take his head off.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know

Ah...So basically, we want to keep throwing rolls at him that aren't of high consequence to us if they fail, so that he blows his points, but being careful to make sure he can't pop Super Luck and Crit us in the face.

Speaking of rolls and consiquences, I'm going to roll Perception for someone

Edit: Wow. I didn't even need to use Luck on this one. I need to do a few more rolls.
