[X] APPLY DEMOLITION TO THE GRIMMALD BODY

The theme of this arc is Jaune giving up on finesse and escalating further and further to ludicrous overkill as the first option.

[X] Birdie No- Lumen, Creme, and Weiss's agreed-upon plan. They believe that, free, uninjured, and out of reach of most of the current lineup, the Nevermore is the greater threat, if not the more immediate one- everyone, right now, can go out there and punch the mystery Grimm in the snout if they want to- only two people can effectively hit the Nevermore in the current environment. An enemy that mostly can't be interacted with is significantly more dangerous than one that may have unknown capabilities. Ergo, it should be dealt with decisively- seal the Relics up for safekeeping, then let the Process pull off whatever it can do that was going to cremate you all, and, get this- don't be inside the temple when it does it. Take out the Nevermore, move back to that suspended tower, and deal with the mystery box there.

Has it only been four days since you stopped a terrorist attack? It feels like it could have been a year since that happened
Eyyy, I caught that, and the reason I did is because this story is awesome and I followed it real early. Did you know I started to study computer science at college since the story started? Now I know why functions have the () after the name. Fun stuff.

I heard we could fire a massive death laser

The idea of a giant death laser calls to me, I must admit, but the thought of playing whack-a-grimm with the reindeer-dolphin seems fun too. So not going to vote one way or the other just yet.

And just something to keep in mind, but presumably the heat generated by the Mega Death Ray will be enough to melt the ice holding the Grimmbomination, so it'll probably be mobile by the time everyone is regrouped enough to fight it. So it's a choice between smashing it now while the Nevermore is active or taking out the Nevermore and fighting it while it's mobile.

This is true. It's also likely to be more than mildly scorched by the blast, so that'll be nice.

[X] Damn The Consequences
That thermal bloom concerns me, and the Grimmbomination is a potential threat to anyone else showing up in the clearing. So deal with it first, then we can deal with MurderBird.
What exactly is shocking about that? The Dust Heiress fighting with Dust, the absurd expense of it, or the terrifying danger of carrying that much Dust into combat situations?
I read it more as just being funny because of how, on the nose it is. It's completely on-brand for Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, sure. But it's so on-brand as to be funny to Jaune in this situation.

We know how to deal with Nevermores. in a complex threat environment, eliminate the known threat first if possible. Nevermores are relatively speaking, not that tough durability wise

Counter-argument: we know how to deal with Nevermores and we can completely obliterate the fuckoff nasty unique Grimmbomination as our opening move so we don't need to figure out how to deal with it, and can use our knowledge of how to deal with Nevermores effectively.

Or, more succinctly, fuck Rudolph the Grimmdeer and everything he stands for, we can answer Brother Dark's spite with multi-thousand degree spite of our own.

[X] Birdie No

Afterwards we can I dunno have the temple self destruct to to deal the other one.

We know if we hit the Nevermore with this much force what happens to it, it'd definitely be gone from the picture.
We don't know what exactly happens if we alpha strike the mutant. If it works, awesome, hard problem is now simple. If it doesn't work then we'd have wasted the alpha strike, used a lot of energy, ruined a lot of the area, and we're no better off.

Keep in mind this trial is a test of tactics and leadership. Nuke the site from orbit the first time you see an unknown isn't really much of one.

On the contrary, we aren't nuking it from orbit. We're nuking it from point blank!

Besides, I think not dealing with an unknown Grimm of unknown power that's already begun to demonstrate advanced healing is a wonderful decision, and if it is still alive, we didn't need to evac for this one.

I gotta say, it always makes my day when this quest updates, keep up the good work @Prok!

Yay! Pr0k lives!

the process was made to answer unanswerable questions, questions like "what if there wasn't a bird there anymore?"
"And if that don't work, use more gun!"

"Using 'more gun' would melt you and the structure you are hiding in."

"Oh. Huh. Never had that problem before."

Okay, there's one thing I feel you totally failed to consider @Prok. What if the Process set up the big gun somewhere else? It'd take it a bit to build, but the build time on the process has generally seemed to be limited more by deciding what exactly to build and the resources on hand rather than the act of building.

If it knows what to build and already has what it needs to build it, why can't the gun be put somewhere else?
A few reasons:
1) The "thermal bloom" mentioned in the update is a real phenomenon and is one of the major hurdles in fielding lethal laser weapons. Basically, air is not a vacuum, it's a medium filled with a lot of gas. That gas deflects parts of the laser, which hits air molecule after air molecule, bouncing around, generating tons of heat. The more distance your laser beam needs to cover, the more energy from the beam is going to diffuse throughout the air around the beam, and the more energy you need your beam to have to achieve decisive results on the target.
2) Because of #1, making a laser cannon powerful enough for the job from further away means making a more powerful laser, with all that that entails. It might also draw the attention of the Nevermore away from us and to the new weapons platform (potentially before it's finished). It would also reveal more of our capabilities than I'm comfortable with (because we don't need to be anywhere nearby when making big structures in seconds/minutes--which means that it becomes apparent that we could just be doing this shit all over, whenever we want).
3) The unique Grimm is right in front of the doors; you couldn't hit it with a distant laser cannon without also destroying/frying our own party, assuming you could hit it at all.
4) Friendly fire. We can generally tell if any of the other people in the test are near enough to our current position to be within the blast zone of our current laser cannon. Firing a distant laser cannon means that the danger zone becomes far larger, and we'd have no idea if any friendlies were in that zone.

@Prok are plans 1 and 2 even incompatible? Leaving the fortress to attack the injured one while the fortress goes into artillery mode to attack the Nevermore, I mean.

Also, just to add fuel to the fire: given the moldable nature of the Process, shouldn't the entire temple fortress be potentially mobile?

Final thought: It'd be amusing if Ozpin decides to treat the Proccess as just another student with a weird and useful semblence. It is after all it's own seperate intelligence.

edit final final thought: Come to think of it, leaning on the help of the teachers, who presumably have teaching experience, for help raising the Process is not a terrible idea for our stressed single father (of the new god of this world)

1) Yes, because I'm pretty damn sure attacking the currently trapped grimm would result in the students being Danger Close. We've already had the weaker laser being called out as blasting away the entire surface surrounding the temple down to the bedrock/.

2) Theoretically yes, in practice it'd take time to get it moving, and you'd be fucking up the ruins in the process.

3) Kinda sorta? it has its own intelligence, but it doesn't really seem to have its own agency. it does what Jaune wants it too seemingly, caring about nothing of its own at the moment.

4) Probably a good idea yes. :V

Presumably, it takes much more heat to kill a large regenerating Grimm than it takes to roast a hunter, and so we need to retreat out of range from the one just outside. You could attempt to kill it and then move further away, but that might take more time than it'd take for Nevermore to come over and fuck your shit up.

[X] Birdie No- Lumen, Creme, and Weiss's agreed-upon plan.

Would a physical projectile be an easier thing for the Process to pull off? I mean if you can create a Laser how hard would it be to create a simple coil/railgun and finish off the currently immobilised one before shooting at the flyer.

Given that Pyrrha shattered a chunk of its mask with her rifle I'm assuming that it wouldn't even need to be an excessively large one to deal significant damage.
