New Good Seed and Omake Rule Updates
Good Seed and Omake Spreadsheet Rules:

Firstly, if you have questions about Good Seeds and the like please read here. If that doesn't answer your question please ping me in thread, or on Discord.

If you write a new Good Seed, or write an omake, please update the spreadsheet if you have access.

If you do not have access, please ping a collaborator (Swordomatic, Alectai, Quest, TehChron, Insane-Not-Crazy, Humbaba, ReaderOfFate, Kaboomatic, no., BungieONI) letting them know what you want and they will update the spreadsheet here. To gain access, you will need a gmail account of some kind. Throwaway emails are fine (I'm using one for the spreadsheet), but to gain access it's as simple as sending me either your email via PM, via DM in Discord, or just in Discord's #spreadsheet-requests channel.

This is mandatory. If a Good Seed does not record their omake by pinging collabs (or just requesting access and editing things themselves - this is the preferred option), I won't give out awards. If a new Good Seed is not recorded here, they won't advance. By doing this it makes the whole thing manageable for me - it's gotten pretty unwieldy!

-----------------------

Omake Writer Instructions:

There are four fields you need to fill out.

Omake Link, which is just a link to your first omake for the turn. This makes it easier for me to read them as I do the update - without this it's tough to know off the bat which omake were written this turn, and to properly

Requested Bonus, which is your requested bonus for your omake. You can leave it up to me if you like. You can see more info in the Good Seed infopost here.

Cultivation Aims. For those following unorthodox paths - higher than 9th Heavenstage or later than 7th Dao Pillar paths. Please put in what you are aiming for before you break through. I have left it as 'default'. If you do not edit it, I'll go with that.

Turn Notes - Do you want to do something specific? Enter a Secret Realm? Help the Clan out in some way? If you have something specific you want to accomplish on this turn, put it in turn notes so I can adjust your Fate around it.

All other fields are for QM use to record character information to properly run the flow of the game.

Year 92 - Tribulation
It was a few years later that the Flood Dragon showed up.

Bedraggled and wounded, she was missing both her ears and an eye. Tiny trees with flowers sprouted out of the sides of her head, and in her eyesocket lodged some sort of tiny deadly snake that periodically poked its head out, tasting the air with its tongue for dangers and strange Qi.

Some women hid their strength behind a deadly sort of charm, thought Manuel, but Yao Zhihao had always seen strength as its own charm and acted accordingly.

Her muscles bulged out of her frame in a way that would shame any male body cultivator, and a mohawk nearly a foot tall stood atop her head, hair greased with not with any sort of product, but the accumulation of... simply not washing.

Manuel felt his hand rise towards his head involuntarily. He wasn't fastidious, but surely there were limits?

She burped in lieu of a greeting, and shook his hand vigorously. The grime left on him had to be some sort of magic. It stuck to his skin, and he cringed a little. She'd acted this way five hundred years ago when she was a mere Foundation Establishment cultivator, and her rise to the top of the Flood Dragon Gang hadn't helped her manners any.

"Old Gold!", she exclaimed with delight.

"Lady Yao, a pleasure to se-"

"Oh, don't be ridiculous old man. All the help you and yours have given us over the years? Just call me Hao'er. We're friends and allies, and who cares for pleasantries among such?"

Manuel desperately wanted to admit that he did.

"Of course... Hao'er. Why are you here? Did your breakthrough not go as planned?"

She grinned, showing golden and iron teeth. A normal person would just regrow them, but she had a habit of forging the Spirit Treasures of her fallen enemies into magical teeth, each one a record of her defeat of a more powerful cultivator. Imperator above, but he missed the old Flood Dragon Elders.

"No, no. Strength Purity Sect gave me everything I needed, and I'm ready to break through. Turns out the silly Righteous friends of mine had plotted to use my tribulation as a trap, risking my life to lure out and kill one of those ugly Altar boys. Weren't too pleased with that, so here I am!"

He blinked. It made sense, though he hadn't suspected it. Strength Purity Sect were normally very careful with their words and promises, rarely breaking the spirit of things at all. The war must be going worse than he had thought. He'd arrange for the Golden Eye Array to look over the Great Battlefield more, and follow the Devil Bees a little less.

"You wish for me to serve as a Dao Protector?"

She pulled a finger up and ran it along her scalp near her mohawk, a clearly-bitten fingernail scraping off some black grime.

"Ideally. Pretty sure I can make the breakthrough, but need someone I can trust, y'know?"

"Understood. Tell me what you need, and I'll have it done. Will you be able to help protect our borders after the upcoming Trials?"

He didn't bother mincing words, as she likely wouldn't appreciate it.

"If I can, I'll be there the day they end. Give you twenty years of breathing room against other Nascents. Sound good?"

He nodded.

"Done. Let me arrange with my elders for me to go out."

-------

In times past, the densest Spiritual Qi had come from mountaintops and the like, descending from the sky to be absorbed by the Third Turtle Child. In those days mountains had been prized, and plains were merely so-so. To reach the highest mountaintop was akin to becoming the greatest cultivator, and wars had been fought over the best peaks.

Nowadays, Qi came from the sea, or from under the ground. Still - for tribulation, one sought mountaintops. Tribulation still came from the heavens, and the further it came, the... angrier it tended to be.

The two of them headed towards Turtlebone Mountain, finding an old Clan fort. Long-abandoned, but it could easily be reactivated. A few days of array-carving and it would serve as an excellent warning sign, allowing them a few minutes if someone were to come and interrupt the tribulation.

They did not climb Turtlebone Mountain itself, of course, remaining in the foothills - though the foothills were taller than any mountain in the surrounding mountain ranges, let alone the Clan lands.

Once they reached the top of a promising peak, Manuel slew three Core Formation level eagles that nested there. Their cores would be of use, and their eggs would hopefully be raised by some Beast Taming disciple.

He left the area, laying down arrays, setting up traps, preparing caches of pills for Yao Zhihao to use. He couldn't interfere directly, but preparing the grounds was all right. After a few hours, he flew back to the top.

"Are you prepared, Lady Yao?"

Her face was set, her eyes nervous. She didn't even bother correcting him.

"I am. Please ensure nobody interferes."

He nodded, and flew down the mountain.

Atop it soon after, he saw tribulation lightning come. Golden, forked lightning from the skies, striking at the mountaintop, hints of life within it. Enough for a talented cultivator to shatter their Core, and use that force to propel their soul from their body, refining it with each lightning strike. A moment of doubt would mean death, and only one in ten who entered such tribulation lived.

As the lightning forked down, a massive snake slithered up, seeking prey. It was huge, and the scales were rainbow-coloured, each shining a different colour as the light passed over them. It had fourteen eyes, and two tongues, each forked into two smaller tongues that forked once more.

Manuel looked at it in alarm. It was nearly three li long, and in Early Nascent Soul. Worse, he didn't recognise it. The poisons would be new to him, and likely deadly. He drew his cleaver and dagger, and attacked viciously.

The serpent reared back, hissing, a cloud of poison filling the air.

His far smaller form darted around it, knife and cleaver flashing time and time again. He didn't intend to waste Qi, or even try and kill it. Merely convincing it to leave would be sufficient.

Six days later, the two were still circling one another, throwing out cautious attacks. The serpent was weaker, true, but he could not risk being hit by an unknown poison of Nascent Soul grade. It was far larger, though, and he was far more agile, making it easily avoided.

A final bolt of lightning came down, shattering the mountaintop. Stones and dirt flooded the area, Manuel flying up, the serpent suddenly swept back by the deluge.

He felt nothing. Either she was dead, or...

He felt a flicker of life, and new power arising. She was alive. Just barely, but alive. He bent all his means to darting up there, grabbing Lady Yao and flying away at all speed. He discarded several defensive talismans to throw the serpent off-course, and threw some Qi-Consuming Powder into the air to cover their trail.

Had he not been there, he thought, she would have lived through tribulation - but the serpent would have had a fine Nascent Soul meal shortly afterwards.

Days of flying followed, Lady Yao remaining a small distance from death the entire while.

As he reached the Dawn Fortress, he put her down gently.

"Bring pills, salves, and herbs from my own collection! Quickly!"

First, he would ensure she was nursed back to good health.

After that, well. He had been carrying her for days, her skin and hair touching him, and he would not be able to avoid her skin and hair if he were to treat her properly. Once that was over, though... then, praise the Imperator, he would have a bath.

Awww yeah!

That's Two gambles that just paid off.

Now I am fucking nightmarishly terrified, because the Trials--as best as I can tell--are resolved next.

I'm out of ideas though! I need something to bounce off of!

Until I know roughly how the trials go I can't really write for them

Actually, thought for you @Alectai, maybe something you could do is Rina training some of the Callista's newbies?

With the last 2 deal's goin off without a hitch it It feel's like were teasing heaven when they passed em up in favor of the trial's, lt musta just thought why go for some small fries when we can head to the buffet?

Well, these successes help us out a lot if Heaven fucks us on the Trials, because as long as the Trials don't completely wipe us out--we'll have roughly 40 years or so before any of our enemies are in a position to hurt us. Devil Bees got stung bad when we attacked them, Blood Cannibals can't move for two turns, Saber Palace is going to be pretty apprehensive at the idea of getting stung by us again after we successully convinced Jingshen to look at them (Though how badly depends on how stuff outside our control goes.)

And for the first twenty years after the Trial, we've got another Nascent Soul willing to goomba stomp any attacks of opportunity.

But even with all this in our favor, I still don't feel comfortable. Yeesh.

Minervina Barda is this turn's Good Seed to Read.

Well this is one of the nicest starts to a day I have had in a long while! Just being mentioned in the same breath as the last three recommendations is a privelige.

Minervina's the first bit of creative writing I have done in years, so I want to thank the QM for making such a fun and welcoming platform for people to come and share their ideas.

I just cross my fingers she survives the Trials so I can keep on writing new Omake!

Reading this reminds me that we turn out fallen enemies into Spirit Treasures so i don't think Manuel is in a position to judge lol. Also, i guess Xiao Yi is also following the clan tradition with his Blood Arrays except his trading repeated usage + power for a instant burst. So yeah! Not as heretical as thought!

Hmm wow. Ok. That's a distinct imagery. I'm not ashamed to admit that stuff like this give me the creeps lol

My my! Reeeally making me doubt the usefulness in forming closer ties beyond acquaintances in this case. If they can do that to someone who is of the same side as them...
Still - for tribulation, one sought mountaintops. Tribulation still came from the heavens, and the further it came, the... angrier it tended to be.
That is very interesting information to know, sounds like our Clan should head to the mountain region if they wanna transcend
@Neshuakadal

Yes - the Flood Dragon once again has an Early Nascent Soul.
That's really good news! Didn't they only have like a 20% chance ?

I Hope the rolls will be just as good when it comes to the Trials.

Time to make more omake fueled by fear.
I'm all wrung-ed out! Of Time and Inspiration! Guess i gotta see if it can last till the weekend when i can find some time. If not i just have to hope what i did so far for this turn is enough!

Especially considering it's the most i wrote in years!

Minervina's the first bit of creative writing I have done in years, so I want to thank the QM for making such a fun and welcoming platform for people to come and share their ideas.

I just cross my fingers she survives the Trials so I can keep on writing new Omake!
I agree 10000000% on this. The ease of entry really led me to start writing in literal years as well, and the gradual building off from other omakes just adds to the fun.

For me, since i'm always ready for Xiao Yi to bite it, i have a 2nd Good Seed Concept + a potential Death/Crippled scene ready! SO COME AT ME 5TH SEA! COME AT ME! (please don't really come at me...)

NGL, I'm still unsure as to if I want to yolo and go without a LST, or do the sensible thing.

Regardless of how Anastasia turns out in the rolls, I intend on finishing this arc, and maybe the next.

Being meguca cultivator is suffering.

Theoron Strophios - Good Seed Background
Theoron Strophios

Concept: A swordsman who lives for the rush of battle. And quietly morns the losses his actions cause. Once he was a coward. Never again.

Past: The first years of his life Theoron lived destined to become a farmer like his parents and their parents and their parents and so on. Theoron chaffed under this, enjoying far more the energy he felt as he ran around the small farm. Then bandits struck and Theoron fled, abandoning his father, mother and younger sister. He only returned once he saw the fire dwindle away. He didn't know what to expect. He didn't want to see the burned and charred forms of his parents. He wanted to find signs of his sister. However the heavens laughed at his wants. Anger boiled his veins and his heart beat faster than it ever had. He tracked the bandit group down and one by one attacked and killed them before running into the wilds. Finally only the leader was left. A man who had reached the 1st heavenstage. The man fled into the desert, and Theoron followed. During his stalking he considered how best to defeat a man who seemed so much stronger than anyone Theoron had ever known. Then he tripped on yellowed bones. Wind had revealed human bones, a leather bag, and a sword. The bag contained a dusty manual describing a cultivation method, Song of Steel, and the sword contained just enough qi for Theoron to reach the 1st heavenstage. Using his new vigor Theoron ran after his flagging foe and cut him down. Then he wandered into a Golden Devil Clan outpost.

Cultivation stage: 1st heavenstage
Effective combat strength: Unknown just started

Starting cool thing - Cultivation method: Song of Steel. A spiritual qi cultivation path. While it guides the user in fairly standard ways to absorb qi from the environment, it also instructs on a different avenue to take in qi. Through one's sword and the battles its involved in. When cultivators fight qi is released. After a victorious fight cultivators who use this method can trap the leftover qi of techniques into a sword. Through time and rituals the Song of Steel cultivation art will transform the chaotic and random qi of battle into smooth structured sword qi. This allows the user to store qi removing the need to rely on the qi of the environment. Stored qi does not remain forever, leaking away steadily. Unknown to Theoron is that this leaked qi is incredibly easy to track. A determined pursuer will have no trouble finding him again.

Here is a new good seed entry! Is it a good idea to throw a good seed into the fray just as the trials are about to begin? It must be. I'm doing it after all. Nothing can go wrong here.

I think this is our first Sword Cultivator, so i'm interested on seeing how he develops! The interactions with the Clan Formations will be interesting as well considering Sword Cultivators are individualistic in nature, being all about the Self and the Sword

My thoughts on it is that while he would prefer the freedom of movement fighting solo would give him, Clan Formations lead to a lot of qi being thrown around. Qi that his cultivation art can afterwards take advantage off. So it's a good trade off for him. He'll chaff with the formations but he chaffed under his parents as well. It's something he is accustom too.

Rina Callista 15 - The Eve of Calamity
Rina Callista
The Eve of Calamity
The Trials would soon be upon the Golden Devils.

A calamity wrought by invaders from beyond, seeking to harvest the growth of the past hundred years--to keep the Clan weak, pliable--a valuable resource to foster one's juniors and nothing more. That each of these assaults brought on calamity to their beloved 'Secret Realm' that could not be fully healed seemed to be lost on them--or accepted as the price of doing business. 'Oh yes!' perhaps they will say 'Perhaps they are weaker every round, perhaps this precious resource will be exhausted... But what of it? It is the way of heaven that nothing lasts for eternity--save for the True Immortals perhaps.'

Or maybe they didn't even care about it that much, and would just shrug and move along when a Trial came along and found only a battered refugee populace, no longer viable to survive in this terrible world. Perhaps then they will fall back.

Or will they simply just take what little remains and wander back, raised as heroes for 'Exterminating' the demons once and for all?

Probably the latter. The only ones who probably got a shot in these contests were the ones who struggled to feel guilt. That whole 'Denying the fellow humanity of your targets because killing them is profitable for us' thing.

Rina's preparations had been completed to the best of her ability--her strength had risen to its peak, her mental state was good, and she found herself sitting on her hands and twiddling her thumbs. A trip to the newly established Technique Assessment Palace was... Well, it was a thing--she did get an interesting new battle skill out of it, but it was more just a supplement to what she could already do rather than something that she could build her technique around.

But she just saw all of the other Qi Condensation disciples milling around in the courtyard with it, just testing out their new tricks, and something about it tickled her as wrong.

So she spontaneously announced that she would be running drills here and now--to acclimate everyone's new gains.

After all, from the perspective of an aspirant in the third or fourth Heavenstage, there's not much difference between a true Centurion and Rina Callista--either was capable of outmatching anything you could muster, invincible against your finest techniques, and with a keen eye and experience that could pave away any number of slip-ups on your part. One thing came to another, and in the end, Rina found herself playing junior drill instructor.

Something about the act felt right--and she couldn't quite pin down what about this deed was the cause for it. Was it the fact she was being constructive again? Helping the Clan out instead of simply being a beneficary of it's largess? That wasn't nothing, but it didn't feel like the right reason.

Was it simply putting to practice some of her ideals? The act of building a better world? No, that didn't feel right either--too much of the current tension was rooted in the terrible might of an external threat, and the idea that simply teaching people to better weather that... It was treading water, not making things better.

"Why are we still doing this?" A voice from the front of the group called out, breaking Rina from her reverie as the drill halted. "We should be practicing our new techniques at this point! What kind of help is this formation drilling going to be when the invaders come to kill us all?"

Ahhh

That's what was tickling the back of her mind.

"Good techniques are an asset, true." Rina allowed, nodding her head to acknowledge the point. "Indeed, once we're done with the drilling, we'll be breaking into groups, and I'll be helping you all merge your gains into your personal style." She could feel the tension rising--why wait until later after all? She continued before they had a chance to voice that however. "In the end though, our core strength as a clan is our unity--our formations--our ability to cooperate to produce power beyond what any one of us could muster alone. How many other groups can boast of surpassing hundred to one odds? Against Blood Path even--who are generally stronger individually than any other path?"

She gestures to the one who questioned the plan. "None can--ordinary Cultivators seek their own advantage first, and fear what their peers will do to them. They reserve the lion's share of their strength as a result, cooperating only as they must with the ones at their side--confident that the strength of their techniques and might of their cultivation will see to their own survival. How many times can they afford to do this while contributing fully to the attacking group? As such, when we Golden Devils march to battle--we fight a hundred battles against fractions of the foe, instead of one great clash against overwhelming numbers--and we have always had the advantage in strength and stamina compared to our foes--the Blood of Bronze grants this gift even to the least of our Cultivators."

A look of understanding began to fill the expression of her juniors, and Rina began to pace at the head of the group. "It is this which makes us strong--and gaining new techniques does not obviate this strength! It ensures that should you find yourself isolated and denied your comrades, that you have a fallback to rely on--it is the sidearm to the spear of our Battle Formations--and in that sense it is valuable and must be cultivated accordingly, just as no soldier marches without a backup for their spear. However, to grow conceited when our foes ever hold the initiative is dangerous--we cannot risk allowing this conceit to grow to the point of impacting our foundations."

She smiled, and extended her arms in a welcoming gesture. "And so we drill! We practice until the conceit falls off--only then do we turn our attentions to mastering these new finds, confident that they will serve us as the sidearm that they should be--and not seek to turn it into our primary tool and cast aside our Clan's greatest asset in the process."

There are nods and murmurs of understanding among the juniors--and they each stand straighter in the wake of it, their morale restored, even here on the eve of calamity!

Such good juniors, working hard even when great danger is lying ahead! Rina's Golden Devils would endure this hammerblow--the reports of the Jingshen Clan turning their gaze to the West, and the successful Nascent Soul Tribulation of the heroic Flood Dragon Gang's new Grand Elder were signs that the Heavens had turned their attention from the incidental crises that battered the Clan in ordinary times--and in doing so, gave Old Gold and his staff a chance to sow new seeds of advantage in Heaven's absence. Even should the hammerblow be of crushing weight, anything short of a fatal blow would be something that could be healed.

And the Golden Devil Clan had always boasted of a peerless defense, and the ability to recover from wounds that wound cripple a lesser cultivator. With the courage of these juniors, the might of her peers--and the labor of the elders... It could yet be done.

But only if vigilance was maintained--and only if heroic effort was made to turn aside Heaven's fatal blow. Rina would do her part--her path would accept nothing less.

And with that, coupled with my overflow from last turn. My Fate Wordcount Budget for the Hundred Year Trials stands at over 10,000 words!

It's a good milestone, and more than I thought I could squeeze out, but I think Rina's as ready for this as I can make her. She's super strong, has a good Fate bonus, and participated in the Gigamake. I've got two LSTs and a Rank Jumper Consumable.

By all accounts, Rina's chances of making a splash are good! She should even have enough left over afterwards to process the Yuan Secret Realm and hopefully push for 13th Heavenstage and/or some Lifespan Boosters!

So why do I still feel so scared?

Considering the benefits that being allies with the Flood Dragon Gang will bring us in one of the most crucial times in the quest (immediately post-trials), I'm growing more inclined to ally with the Magic Oak Sect to act as a counterweight to the Jingshen clan.

I think this is our first Sword Cultivator, so i'm interested on seeing how he develops! The interactions with the Clan Formations will be interesting as well considering Sword Cultivators are individualistic in nature, being all about the Self and the Sword
There was another one, wasn't there? They've just not been doing so hot with their rolls, if I remember right. Damien I think? Or something like that.

You've certainly picked an...exciting time to begin your good seed's cultivation journey.

Edit: I suppose if nothing else if you die horribly in the trials you won't be losing much in the way of progress.

Huh. i must have missed him. Still i do find it ironic that for a Xianxia setting we have quite low amounts of Sword Cultivators considering Xianxia likes to hype them up as the best at fighting. :D

Also, seeing the number of " Saving Juniors " in the omake list is making me feel guilty lol. I been peer pressured to join in! Let's go all out! With the excellent results in the last 2 updates, i'm gonna use my Good Seed's life to tilt the odds as much as i can!
