Hereafter [Worm x Fate/Grand Order]

I don't believe for a second that Hektor could jump into the middle of the group undetected, again, and thoroughly outplay everyone, again, without relying entirely on authorial fiat.

My suspension of disbelief is throwing up red flags on that one.
There was enough of other action going on imo, and it's hard to detect or interact with something non corporeal
Maybe next time he will stay visible relaxing our heroes while another if blackbeard's lackeys pulls it of again

Yeah I'm confused by the order of events here too. There's a gigantic fleet they're somehow threatened by when they could turn and sail away in literally any other direction and have good reason to believe they could get away from with their head start. That at least makes sense, since they know Blackbeard is going to be chasing them, even if I'm not sure how Blackbeard is tracking them.
So they decide to surrender and sit there to not get blasted so they can try and start a dialogue.

And then somehow Blackbeard and his own ship is suddenly flying above them and the fuck off huge fleet within cannon distance is no longer a factor for some reason?

Eh, rules of narrative convenience might as well be actual physical laws in Fate.

I'm more surprised this is Hector doing this instead of some Assassin, but his underhanded tactics are probably part of the original plot.

In the Iliad, Hector was basically a nicer and slightly weaker Achilles. He led from the front, he never turned down a battle, yet he was beloved by his people and tried negotiating peace during the Trojan war.

Lol, maybe he's grown more cynical and underhanded after getting disillusioned with his afterlife like Emiya. But Emiya was allegedly getting there during his life, while Hector stayed a nice guy right until his death because of the Olympians' dickery.

Eh, that part's not that strange. Hektor having to stay in the Throne with the knowledge that all his honourable conduct got him was his city destroyed and Achilles parading his corpse in mockery would likely have an effect on a person, even a Heroic Spirit.

Huh, if you think about it, the moral of the Iliad could be "Be Odysseus, be a sneaky asshole who refuses to fight honorably, or die young."

I do like how Blackbeard pulled off this flying Revenge trick. It's a brilliant and underhanded, or overhanded one could say, technique that really pushes the potential of a Holy Grail. Still, I almost get the feeling that Blackbeard isn't really trying to kill the Chaldea crew. He's putting a lot of emphasis on capturing Euryale, but I can't help but feel like he's not really going after it with full lethal intent. He's not afraid to kill anyone, but once Hektor took her, he could have tried a little more to stop or kill the gang. Hell, he must have seen how much damage their two fights on the Golden Hind was, why not just sink the ship while they were on it and stop the gang from coming after him?

More than likely, since Blackbeard is canonically suspicious of Hektor and adding Alex to the equation, I can see him trying to set up Chaldea to take on the Greeks when they inevitably betray him.

Also, I've noticed that not just the massive fleet disappeared, but every time the Servants fight on the Golden Hind, it's almost like the entire crew just disappears. Bombe doesn't chime in on the banter and none of the crew ever seem to be hurt or get caught up in the fighting...it's almost like they're ghosts. Similar to what we saw with Captain Kidd possibly. The ghosts and echoes of Drake's crew who died during her fight with Poseidon, maintained with a facsimile of life by a sub-conscious wish of Drake's on the Grail.

Not only would fit the very melancholic tone of Grand Order, it would also give a greater weight to Drake's victory over Poseidon, by giving it a cost in human life, ones she deeply cared about.

Hector: surprise attack again.

Ok that's strike two. To be honest, I should be having fun with the flying ships and pirate fun, but its getting distracting now. I don't even want an explanation. All I want is for someone, anyone really, to ask the question "how is he doing that?" So long as it's acknowledged in-universe as "not supposed to happen normally," that leaves the narrative open for the question to be answered at a later date and won't weigh on the readers suspension of disbelief until its answered.

So high in the sky that I had to squint to see it against the glare, the massive bulk of the Queen Anne's Revenge hung aloft as though it was suspended on invisible strings. Even before my eyes, it was sinking rapidly down, coming closer and closer to us with startling speed and casting an ever expanding shadow over the Hind.

Fuck. How long had he been following us? Had he actually done something as ridiculous as avoid our sensors by being too high for us to detect?
I chanced a quick glance past them towards Arash, but nothing had changed. He and Alexander were still going at it in a lightning fast melee that I could barely see at all, and I had no hope of keeping track of who was doing what specifically. Their arms were just blurs to me.

The crew, at least, had managed to find places to hide or just avoid the fighting. I was a little ashamed to admit that I didn't pay that as much attention as I should have been. The approaching fleet from earlier had slowed down, like it was waiting to see what happened first, so we couldn't expect any help from them.

My eyes flitted about, trying to keep some semblance of connection to each of the fights. Emiya had vanished, no time to think about where. Anne, Mary, Alexander, with Blackbeard still on the Revenge. That left —

I whirled around. "Hektor!"

He appeared amidst us much as he had before, smiling ruefully. He'd used the chaos of the other fights to try and sneak up on us again. "Guess I've been found out."

He whipped his spear around as the others turned to face him, and Bellamy went flying with a long, drawn out, "Shit!" He tumbled over the railing and into the water with a splash, much as I had a few days ago.
Did a few minor things. Not sure how much that helped with some of the issues you guys are having, but we're deep into Okeanos and I need to finish the final chapter.

So what happened to that humongous fleet all around the Golden Hind? Why didn't any of them take a shot at the Revenge, or try to stop the Hind from taking off after the ship had 'surrendered'? Just feels like the whole thing vanished out of existence the second Blackbeard dropped in.
Same, I kept expecting it to turn into a three way battle. But the fleet seemed nonexistent as soon as blackbeard showed up

He didn't really, they figured out where he was as soon as they thought about where he might be, and were right entirely because he'd already pulled that same trick before, they were just focusing on the more flashy and immediately dangerous boarders than the one they couldn't see until they realized they couldn't see him.

Mash was focused on the visible fights because she's inexperienced, and all the other Servants were already engaged or out of position.

Remember that Servants are fast they can cross a distance like that before the human Masters can really process it, which is why they only realized where he was when he was already in the middle of them.

It kind of sucks that Hektor could just trick every single member of the party at least three different times in that one fight. It feels fake for one servant to suddenly be able to take on the entire squad and basically escape unscathed with a captive. A way I can see to sort of fix that disbelief is have Anne Bonny and Mary Read firing on the squad from the Revenge during the whole battle. That way they don't have to leave and weaken Blackbeard, and it aso provides a reasonable enough excuse for Hektor to be able to solo the entire squad. Getting repeatedly sniped would make it pretty hard to coordinate.

OK I've figured out how to figure out if I want to participate in this thread:

Hey audience of Hereafter do you people believe that this story will reach a point where another character from Worm/Ward will play an active role in this story?

I want to know the audience expectations on the story for this because it will tell me if I will find it fun to participate in the thread. Answer only if interested to of course.

Edit: Bad verb tense there at the end of the post.

Author has said that no Worm/Ward servants will be randomly summoned by Chaldea. He also said we might get a Worm lostbelt. That's a really long ways in the future though.

However, there has been hints that we might get something worm related in the American Singularity. It might be a Worm servant appearing naturally. It might be that the Singukarity is worm. It might just be that Taylor explains her past more there.

So I don't know, it might, it might not.

It strikes me as a bit odd that Taylor doesn't even contemplate using the phantom hand to jab out Hektor's eyes. Even if she dismissed the idea saying that the risk to Euryale was too great, it doesn't feel right that the only thing she could think to do with ranged telekinesis is try to pry open the grip of someone with superstrength.

Like, Taylor in canon got enormous mileage out of being able to blind her opponents, and three Singularities in, she should have thought up a way to compensate for how to do that when there isn't a ton of bugs around.
yeah, that's a thing i've noticed, only once has taylor actually tried to go for the eyes or anything like that, and that was against medusa in the first singularity and not even thought about it since, like, not expecting it to do anything major or whatever, but it might force him to blink or recoil from something poking his eye, which could mean a whole lot at the speed servants operate at, she has a ghost hand, why not poke some servants in the eye, more likely to work than her bugs at least.

i don't think there will be a worm character in here, and personally hope there won't, generally don't like it when an insert story to another setting has more than just one person insert and such if that's not advertised clearly up front, i came for taylor in chaldea, i don't really wanna get surprised by taylor in chaldea, and also hey is that alexandria in the 6th singularity duking it out with karna? not really my jam

Calling Aife is absolutely the correct call. Hector is a Greek hero, the man who went one to one with Achilles. Even then, Aife would beat him like a drum. She is what Achilles would have been had he survived the Trojan War and trained for the rest of his life.

Edit: I don't expect Worm stuff until after the Singularities are resolved. The Incineration goes back to the start of human history, before the split between the Worm side and the Fate side. This means that just like how the world realized a year has passed, so to will the Worm side realize that. And they WILL go looking for what caused and resolved it.

They will not be happy to find Taylor.

Which time it is? Taylor, it happens multiple times per singularity. Get the damn sunglasses.
Funnily enough, the Seasonal Summer Sun reaction seems to fit perfectly with this. And yeah, I do agree. Like damn girl, at least get some transitionals (glasses that darken in bright light)!

My suspension of disbelief is throwing up red flags on that one.
Yeah, that's getting... hard to accept. And the fact that despite sailing together for days, not one of the masters thought to offer Artemis or Bellamy a contract? It just reeks of bad authorial planning. Why would they take allies at half power forward into potential battle? They should not be this stupid...

/sigh At least James has gone back and made a few changes.

Because they only have a limited ability to support Servants? They can't keep a contract with all 300+ Servants like the gacha game can.
But they can support SOME. And right now their current roster is the same size as in the previous singularity, and they've since then attained the grail of the last singularity. So they should have more power to draw from. Plus, in this very chapter Taylor laments NOT offering Bellamy a contract. If they didn't have the power to support him, then that thought wouldn't have even crossed her mind.

And it can't be because she's holding out for maybe offering a contract to a different Servant. In a battle you don't hold off on something like that for a "maybe we'll find someone better later".

And she was still about to offer him the contract, because he needed it

It really doesn't seem all that hard to reconcile "we can't support every Servant we come across" with "we're not forming a contract with every Servant we come across". They're leaving options open for Servants that want to stick around.

They got three more spots for new Servants since Rome, they've already filled one of those, they're leaving the other two open so that they have the option to use them later, like Taylor was about to in this chapter, for that very reason.

Those slots are a precious resource, you don't use one of those up if you know you might need it later and don't need it now. If they did as you suggested, they wouldn't be able to offer Sam a contract in the first place, they would have already been used, so I don't know why you're using not offering one to Sam before now as an example, when if they did things your way they wouldn't be lamenting not offering one to him earlier, true, they would instead be lamenting not having the option to do so. A reminder that Sam is the fourth of five friendly Servants they've met so far in this Singularity.

Personally, I don't get why they didn't summon Aife or Sigfried when they had the chance after Hector snuck on board the first time and almost killed Taylor. Emiya is the closest thing they have to a close combat specialist (Asterios is a strong melee combatant, but he's unskilled and heavily limited by having to fight on a wooden ship), and having a bunch of Archers who can't really take advantage of their abilities against the main enemy's primary strength seems like the kind of situation Taylor wouldn't just placidly accept, especially when she's got two close-range powerhouses available.

Bellamy is a Rider with a magic ship... Taylor has been internally noting for the past few chapters just how fragile the Golden Hind is. He was a more than suitable choice to remove that weakness, and Taylor just didn't say anything...

Plus, I just said in my last post that you don't leave something like that up to "maybe finding someone better later" when you are in a combat zone. It's just not done. Taylor should know that's not done, and why. It's just poor tactics.
