Harry And The Shipgirls: Prisoner of Shipping (A HP/KanColle Snippet Collection)

The reveal about what they're going to have to do to their firstborn daughter was rather horrific. Pretty solid fridge horror at the realization that the pact requires the mother and any younger sisters to basically murder the girl via drowning. No wonder Rusulka are considered Unseelie... I hope they can at least knock the child unconscious first, but given that it's far... Unlikely to be the case.
The snip says giving the older daughter to the Rusulka on her seventh birthday... it says nothing about that daughter dying (for all we know since this happens every seven generations, the eldest daughter manifests gills at that time and if she doesn't enter the lake she dies due to her lungs not working in air) the agreement is like a deal with a dragon (intelligent type) - the dragon protects the village/town/city and once every 100 years a girl is given to the dragon (usually virgin, that's how they wrote the contract) then the dragon takes the girl... the contract doesn't say that the dragon kills the girl just that he takes her.

Edit: Annd ninjaed by de author...   :ninja:

Okay, then I apologize for getting my tail in a knot over this. The way it read in the snippet really heavily seemed to imply the daughter would be made into a Rusulka. Sorry for getting bent out of shape.

No. In my worldbuilding the rusalka is a fae/elemental nonhuman but intelligent creature (like a jinn, just Water instead of Fire). Drowning someone just produces a corpse (or a few flavors of nasty undead like a draugr if you use necromancy on the stiff to reanimate it) rather than a rusalka.

Yeah, it's the 'drowning in air' bit that happens when she turns 7. If she dehydrates bad things happen to her too after then.

The dragon is a great analogy. I'd go one further and say that she sees the graves of the past sacrifices on the way to get chained up and left for the dragon... and then finds out they married said dragon, and died of old age after living in his hidden palace in bliss as the plot twist.

Yeah, I misread what seemed to be between the lines. For once my knowledge of mythology worked against me.

Yeah, I'm using the 'potentially benevolent but dangerous as hell fae water spirit' version of them instead of the 'ghost of a drowned girl with a murderboner' interpretation.

No worries at all, and sorry about winding you up this way.

Induite Vos Arma Dei (V)

Castle Moulbaix, Belgium

Ehren rolled with the blow as the bolt of black-green necrotic energies deflected off the shield that she had manifested. Her teeth gritted as the bolt crashed into the stone wall of the chamber, scaring the worn, damaged, and discolored stone of the room that had been adapted for full-power magical sparring. "Ugh. So that's what I can expect in combat with a necromancer then?" She muttered, flexing her numb arm slightly.

Training up for anti necromancer tactics i see.

Across from her, Curtana nodded while fresh necromantic energies glimmered from the steel of her true body and then subsided. "A very powerful necromancer, yes.

And Curtana certainly would have a lot of knowledge and experience in fighting such.

Ehren gave Curtana a look. "Worse?"

The sword nodded. "Yes. An extremely powerful and skilled necromancer can not just kill her foe, but draw the soul out as an enslaved ghost. While we are both incarnated spirits, we are not immune to a necromancer trying to shackle and enslave us to their will. Resisting such foul magics takes great strength of will and purpose."

Thats certainly a worse fate to have.

Ehren sighed and nodded. "Ja. Which is why I am training with you and my other allies. I need to prepare myself for the unending battle to free those shackled by darkness. Whether by magic or the hatred that the Nazis preached."

"Well said, Ehren, well said." Curtana agreed. "I'll train you to resist the spells that necromancers used in my time, which apparently are the foundation of what the more recent variety of these fiends use. En garde!"

More hard training incoming!

Ehren's adult avatar meditated in padmāsana across from her guru Amala, who meditated in turn in her own place upon the other side of the Persian meditation rug from her. The Rakshashi reached out her inner self to the young dagger spirit's spirit. She then felt a flicker of satisfaction as Ehren sank further toward her center as the meditative Prāṇāyāma breathing that she had been taught by her mentors stilled and regularized, becoming a controlled flow of life energies through her avatar.

Ah! And now here we have Ehren starting her training with the Secret Library Librarians.

Ehren's Svādhiṣṭhāna chakra within her sexual organs was still currently blocked by her unmastered and unaccepted fears and worries. So her energies and comprehension of reality and unreality were not what they would be.

But it was a start and a step on her path to enlightenment.

The first step taken often is the important one.

The Black Goat Of The (Croat) Woods (I)

Slytherin Head Boy's Rooms, Slytherin Dungeon, Hogwarts

Thursday, November 27th 2014

"I wonder what I did right to find you, zlato." The speaker idly rubbed her thumb across a gold signet ring with her coat of arms of a rampant he-goat inscribed on it. The gold sparkled in the light of the spell matrix surrounding her and her love, golden energies meshing and mixing with shimmering, shifting aquamarine.

Vincent Crabbe rumbled a laugh before shifting the speaker in his powerful grip so that she could pillow herself further against his massively muscled bare chest. He then replied in halting Croatian to her. "Ti si moje, sreco." As he did, his own signet ring gleamed in the magical light.

We return to the Elspeth and Vincent show!

Vincent eagerly returned her kiss, then laughed and ran a meaty finger down her bare back from the nape of her neck to just above her hips. "That's something I love about you, srećo. You respect my boundaries and wishes in our relationship, and don't just try to force me to," he sighed with pain in his eyes, "'service your desires' as your betrothed. Unlike some of the older girls here in Slytherin."

*Spittakes* That actually happens? And to Vincent?

Elspeth's luminous eyes darkened and hardened, glowing a bit more as she snarled. "Oh if those older girls who harassed you dare to make a move on you, it will be the last mistake they ever make. The more so since I have come to an... agreement... with the Powers of Water here if such is needful to protect my beloved betrothed."

I believe her when she says it will be the last mistake they make.

"It's a pity. She'd look so much better as a bloated drowned corpse. But, alas, she's too well protected,

All it takes is just one figurative chink in her armor or a gradual drop of her guard.

and if I did arrange an accident, the finger of accusation would fall on me. The Crnokozic are known to have a pact with the court of the rusalka of our lake."

That would be a good reason to reign in any murderous desires.

Crabbe hugged and cuddled her to him. "Relax, srećo. The Boss has Kozma and Parkinson in his sights. Trust me when I say that he's a true Malfoy, so he's going to make Kozma's life Hell so that she will regret ever crossing him to hurt Greg. Furthermore, he's one of the good Malfoys who are loyal to those who ally and support him. He views me, you and Greg like his family as you saw. You don't fuck with one Malfoy, you fuck with all of them when you do."

Again, the difference between HatSG Malfoys vs Canon Malfoys.

Elspeth nodded absently. She then took a deep breath and looked at the web of magic surrounding them. "You're sure this spell will keep us secret, Vincent?"

Crabbe grinned. "Oh yes. It's something that my family developed for the Malfoys during the First Wizarding War at the request of Lyra Potter.

Why am i not surprised Lyra is involved? :D

This is a family variant of the Fidelius Charm that I got taught by my parents this summer. How it works functionally is that we are Secret Keepers for each other, so I cannot reveal what you tell me unless you order me to, and you serve the same role to me. So unless both of us agree to talk of our own free wills, neither Veritaserum, nor an Imperius can drag it out of us."

That is rather genius.

Crabbe shrugged. "Political cover and protection primarily. The Malfoys are good at that. Also we tend to serve them as spell designers, black market contacts, and money managers behind our cover as their 'dumb muscle' loyal servants. In exchange they don't rat out that my family's been secretly Jewish since well before that rat bastard King Edward Longshanks officially expelled the Jews from England. Some of my ancestors died in the antisemitic riots during the coronation of Richard the Lionheart. So now you know, even if I'm not the most observant soul, and I'll be going through the motions when I marry you openly in a church and secretly in my synagogue. That's also why the Malfoys -- the British Malfoys -- didn't throw in with Grindelwald. They knew what would become of us if they did, and that we'd bring them down too rather than get gassed like our branch on the Continent."

I am loving the family backstory of the Crabbes here.

Elspeth kissed him. "Well it seems that it's time for me to come clean now. My family title was granted by King Ferdinand III in 1650. My forefather was the Catholic German magical mercenary captain Joachim Gallas from Württemberg who served Ferdinand III ably and well during the Thirty-Years War in Germany by holding the Palatinate. After the war ended, the Holy Roman Emperor was deeply indebted to him for his loyal services there and elsewhere, so they arranged a marriage to Aurora Veronika Zrinska, the only child and heiress of a pureblood Croat noble family line, who were cadets of the mighty and powerful Zrinyi family. He would take over their holdings as a new noble family."

And heres Elspeths own family background.

To his credit, he ruled well and wisely and was loyal to the King of Austria who raised him up, hence he executed one of the ringleaders of the Magnate Conspiracy with his magic rather than spark a civil war that would have let the Turks roll over us."

At least he was competent at his work.

"Also there is another reason for the goat, zlato. Capricorn, the Sea-Goat has long been a magical and alchemical sign of the element of Water." Elspeth clung to him as her voice grew melancholy. "My forefathers of the Zrinyi had made a blood pact with a queen, a kraljica, amongst the rusalka to help shield and protect our valley and the pass through the mountains from the Turks and others who would harm us." She sighed and buried her head in Crabbe's chest. "The price is... every seven generations to my line, twin girls will be firstborn, one human daughter second and one rusalka daughter first who renews our pact when she is taken to the lake and sunk within the waters by her mother and female kin on her seventh birthday to become the new kraljica of the rusalka. I am the sixth generation since the pact was renewed, and have sworn blood-sistership with my cousin who lives beneath the waves in her palace at the bottom of Jezero Plava at the base of my home castle, hence my vows to come to the altar as a virgin bride for a man who must be forever faithful to me alone. I have seen her palace reflected on a misty moonlit midsummer night when I speak to her; it is a cold, terribly beautiful realm, but not one for humans such as we."

Vincent held her to him in a strong but gentle hug. "Then our oldest daughter will be among her family when she leaves us to take up her obligations to keep our family safe and strong and her cousin's line renewed. And we shall always love and cherish her, srećo. Even if we must remain apart."

Well...........that is quite faeish if i do say so myself, but man it would still be sad for them.

was loyal to the King of Austria
What king of Austria? If I remember correctly the Hasburgs were always their archdukes and then emperors. The kings on the other hand were Hungary and Bohemia.
As for the rest, it's an interesting story that expands the world and makes Malfoy's helpers more than a footnote about walking muscle and bodyguards

Yep. Ehren is training up to have it out with Pansy. Curtana is playing 'the necromancer' so introducing her to some of their spells and the counters for same, plus how to fight the undead.

And Curtana certainly would have a lot of knowledge and experience in fighting such.

Yes and no.

Curtana has a lot of experience... from the 9th-10th Centuries. Modern necromancers, and some of Pansy's tricks, not so much (since she was stuck in the crypt for a looong time). Cathy or Joyeuse would be much better suited to teach how to stop whatever Pluto could do. But Ehren will know the basics as to capabilities, since those haven't changed and be pretty prepared.

Thats certainly a worse fate to have.

Yeah. I should note that Pluto for one was capable of doing that at the height of his powers and skills (and did it a few times to particularly vexing foes before his downfall).

More hard training incoming!

Yep, Ehren wouldn't have it any other way.

Ah! And now here we have Ehren starting her training with the Secret Library Librarians.

Continuing her training, yes, It's been happening offscreen with the avatar down there. This is her learning Vedic magic from India, yes.

The first step taken often is the important one.

Yep. A very important step as Ehren unlocks the first of her seven chakras to be able to manipulate her kundalini energies.

We return to the Elspeth and Vincent show!

Oh yes, I'd planned to do them for a while.

*Spittakes* That actually happens? And to Vincent?

Yep. Puberty hit him early and hard. And it's not just his musculature and height/bulk that got 'much bigger than normal' if you catch my drift. Unfortunately for Vince, the (accurate) rumors of the 'Crabbe Cricketbat' being something to behold have spread through Slytherin so some of the older girls have have been pressuring him to put a bag over his head and drop his trousers. Let's just say that if Vince were inclined, he could make a mint in certain categories of movies as the male star based on physical attributes.

Which our (somewhat) nice Jewish boy really doesn't want to do and is feeling pretty harassed. Especially when the types like Mei Cao have gotten interested. His nightmare is one of them would pressure him/Draco to force him into that kind of thing. So Elspeth showing up in his life, especially being really not interested in premarital sex or 'trying before she buys', while being a really pretty witch who desperately wants romance and a ring versus a one-night-stand and a broken betrothal was a gift from Heaven. Elspeth also gives him an ironclad excuse ('my betrothed wouldn't like me fooling around with you and if you push me she'll show why she was the Queen High Bitch of Durmstrang') to tell IE Mei Cao to back off making moves on him while he walks the other way.

I believe her when she says it will be the last mistake they make.

Yeah. Rusalkas and their mortal relatives can be pretty dang possessive bitches (hence the folklore about them being the drowned spirits of girls who suicided over heartbreak/were murdered by a cad of a boyfriend/husband) when it comes to romance. So she's a bit borderline-yandere toward Vince as a result. Stable, loving, and protective, oh yes. But if pushed hard enough she'd put someone on the bottom of the Black Lake without a qualm.

All it takes is just one figurative chink in her armor or a gradual drop of her guard.

Yeah. Unfortunately Kamilla is justifiably paranoid and has kept her precautions up here. Otherwise, she'd have slipped off the Durmstrang Boat and been found by the merfolk int he Black Lake.

That would be a good reason to reign in any murderous desires.

True. If Kamilla up and drowned, Elspeth would get suspected since there's no love lost, she has a vicious and somewhat unpredictable temper, and she has a hellacious ability im Water Magics and knows some charms that the rusalka have taught her. Even if it was totally an accident or Kamilla committing suicide or the like, she'd be in a lot of hot water and knows it.

Again, the difference between HatSG Malfoys vs Canon Malfoys.

Yeah. In this case while a fair number of the Malfoys have been rotten, even the bad eggs know that having the Crabbes indebted to them/under their protection makes them a valuable and loyal tool and how to manage that relationship. Since we are doing the Wizarding World is socially behind RL by a few decades, there's still a lot of genteel antisemitism in British pureblood aristocrat circles (similar to the pre-WWII UK), which the Malfoys have allowed to fester in part because it keeps the Crabbes dependent on their patronage and protection. Also the Crabbes know where some nasty historical bodies are buried, in part thanks to helping to plant them.

Why am i not surprised Lyra is involved? :D

This was Lyra in WWII working her social contacts (remember that she IS a Black and the Malfoys have family ties in that sphere) to come up with a security spell for the magical side of British Intelligence.

That is rather genius.

Yeah, the Crabbes are VERY good at custom charms and also double-entry bookkeeping (and handling some of the Malfoys' underworld ties). It's a symbiotic relationship with their patrons and that spell is some of their best work (keep in mind that OTL Crabbe cast Fiendfyre, an AK, and some other Unforgivables, so he had real talent in the Charms field before he got crisped).

I am loving the family backstory of the Crabbes here.

Thank you. It nicely justifies why Draco has been paling it up up with them. Vince drops the 'dumb muscle' act in private with Draco and his waifu.

And heres Elspeths own family background.

Yep. This was an OC that Aurelius came up with, along with the betrothal angle, and then I ran with his notes. The originator of the family was always going to be a German who married a pureblood Croat heiress with vast tracts of land and the peasants would get him to wear the disparaging goat name with pride. Some of the details were me doing spot research on the history of Croatia.

At least he was competent at his work.

Got away with it clean after insuring Miklós Zrinyi got fatally gored by a wild boar while on a hunt in Croatia before he could start a rebellion that would have seriously destabilized the Hapspburgs at a bad time and given the Ottomans a shot at Vienna earlier. So, yeah, he was a very, very competent and ruthless Dark Wizard.

Well...........that is quite faeish if i do say so myself, but man it would still be sad for them.

Yeah. the sad part is their rusalka daughter will be a HUGE Daddy's Girl, and Vince will never see her again after she turns seven.

SisterJeanne,
Saw this vid and thought of Ehren
.
If the video isn't working, try JoergSprave on Youtube[\URL]

That's a great video for her!

What king of Austria? If I remember correctly the Hasburgs were always their archdukes and then emperors. The kings on the other hand were Hungary and Bohemia.

Gaah, let me fix that. It was Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor, King of Hungary, Croatia, and Bohemia (Hungary and Croatia were in a personal union for the Hapsburg monarchs and had been for a few centuries). Elspeth would be more concerned with the Croatian title than anything 'foreign' too, anyway.

As for the rest, it's an interesting story that expands the world and makes Malfoy's helpers more than a footnote about walking muscle and bodyguards

Thank you, thank you. I thought it would work well. The Goyles are more the 'reliable muscle' type (the Crabbes just pretend that they are as a cover to being the Malfoy consiglieri in the Mafia sense*) though, although there's a reason for that as I showed.

*To use that structure chart as an example, Lucius is the Malfoy Family Capo, with Crabbe Senior (Vince's father) being his consigliere. Draco is the sottocapo underboss being groomed to succeed his father, with Vincent as his consigliere in training and Greg as his primary caporegieme muscle subordinate.

As a side note, I saw this on the SB thread:

It would be interesting to find out how the Wizarding World would react to the task of returning a shopping trolley...

Ehren du Chasteler: Returns the trolley to its assigned place with it cleaned, shined, and in Ordnung
Colombe du Chasteler: Tries to return the trolley, however trolley and nearby dumpster catch fire due to extenuating circumstances that are not her fault.
Zamarad Alnaar: Extenuating Circumstances.
Claire du Chasteler: Serenades trolley as it is returned home where it belongs.
Jacklyn Fox: Takes Trolley on a 'wee little cruise' to unwind. Trolley returns with pirate tattoo in embarrassing location and squeaking wheel going ARRRR because DAMMIT JACKIE!
Delilah de Breuil: Trolley returned and sworn to secrecy due to use in classified Winters Network operation.
Masamune-no-Tokunotakai: Kami of the trolley would carry her groceries again, 10/10 highly recommended.

Is that a mandate of the compact, some sort of Rusalka Law? or is it Rusalka can't even poke their heads out of the water without 'Air Drowning'? Because anything short of that? I don't think will stop Draco from finding a way for his friend to at least be able to meet and spend some time with his girl.

Stunned architect: "I must have misheard you, Mr Malfoy. You want what?"

Draco: "I said that the house must have a direct connection to the water and every room be accessible by both walking and swimming. The living room and dining rooms will be half submerged. Cost is not an issue. If ability is, then I will find an architect who CAN handle this job. Do it right and you will be very well compensated. 'Half-ass' this job and you'll regret the day you became an architect... at the VERY least."

Rusalka are very possessive toward men that they love. And want to take them down to the bottom of the lake to live with them forever.

So she's a real threat to accidentally drown him after she awakens.

My thoughts

Harry would either not return it (bloody magpies), return with suddenly extra carts, or end up with even more carts gone then the one he was using.

Jin would pry cause the cart to have other issues (rust, acidic melting of handle)

Kyushu would end up at Umi's house with it (unless supervised)

The cart was always there right? (Kensho'd)

The abyssals would start a cult.

Ron would fix the wheel.

Thank's for that. I really needed that.
No problem. I'm just glad you're out of that dark episode for now.

If I remember my Russian fairytales correctly, rusalka can and do come onto the water's edge, looking like perfectly normal, if very beautiful, women. There, they sing, brush their hair etc. to lure in men and drown them. Since here, they are pure fae and not unquiet dead, this might be seen as trying to share their happiness with others and them failing to comprehend that humans need that little thing known as air to live.

So she's a real threat to accidentally drown him after she awakens.
How many had their hearts broken when the ones they brought down below to be happy with them died long before arriving?

Woho, alliteration!

More trolley guesses:
Most shipgirls would put it back normally.
Some of the destroyers would 'borrow' it for hijinks, then return it later after being scolded.
Natsumi would put it back normally, then turn red because her inner Tamamo teases her as she's returning it.
Rita would watching people putting it back, then post a clickbait article implying that they did not do it properly.
The abyssals of the Fleet of Laughter would put it back properly, because Hoppou would be disappointed in them otherwise.

Now THAT is an obstacle. :(

Basically the problem is that Rusalka (and Jinn) aren't human even if they can emulate humanity. You still have blue and orange morality going on like most fae.

Asking Vince's rusalka daughter to not 'take Daddy home to show her wonderful new palace' is like asking a tiger to go vegetarian (or a jinn not to burn things, or a shipgirl to abandon the sea to go live as a hermit in the Sahara hundreds of miles from water). They just aren't wired that way and while they can suppress aspects of their psyche to a point, by the time his daughter learned self control enough to handle not dragging Vince under, he's likely looking at decades to maybe centuries down the road.

Proper Prussian planning prevents piss poor performance.

Indeed it does. Alliteratively!

Sounds about right (there was also some discussion of the cart over on SB which is where I got it from).

Yeah, she can go to dry land, but it's a bit like functionally holding your breath underwater for her. And yes they're sharing their happiness.

How many had their hearts broken when the ones they brought down below to be happy with them died long before arriving?

A fair number, perhaps.

Proving once and for all that he is the miracle worker.

Very very true about Ron.

Post-Statute Lord Malfoy: "Hello, Magical Telecomm&Telefloo? I'd like to place an order for a full-VR telepresence system rated to work underwater at a depth of ten meters. Merfolk? Yes, let's go with that."

Good to see you Skye! And yes, Draco will try to hook Vince up when this happens (albeit years down the road).

More trolley guesses:

Sounds legit to me.

Fudge: Decides to keep the cart, because it is a rather convenient Muggle invention.

Umbridge: Blows up the whole cart rack. Why should a proud witch reduce herself to using Muggle objects when she can use the Levitation Charm?

Dria and Kei: return the cart in good condition, but the next person to use it wonder why they're hearing a leopard.

Quite cute. Question though: is the "CSGN" based on any real OTL design proposals? I thought that building missile ships that also had WW2 levels of armor was something people had given up on by the end of the cold war.
Don't know about the designation, but there were heavy armored battleships and cruisers in service (with tomahawks and other missiles) up to I think the early 90's (Iowa was the last battleship and I think she was retired in 93-94)

Edit: just looked it up U.S.S. Missouri was decommissioned and struck from the registry 31 March 1992.

CSGN was the designation given to the proposed strike cruiser line, which were intended to replace the WW2 era cruisers and battleships that were being retired in the 1970s. They would have had an armored citadel to increase survivability in independent operations and shore bombardment duties. No such ships were ever build because of technological limitations that resulted in them not being considered cost-effective. Some thought was given to reviving the idea in the '90s with the final retirement of the Iowas, but the end of the Cold War and the mounting costs of nuclear power meant nothing came of it, though the Zumwalt-class bears some resemblance in role and displacement.

Dria and Kei are of my own design, based on what I think the '90s CSGNs might have been like.
