"HANDS OFF MY STUFF!" Fighting the Adventurer Menace

I don't see why a trapdoor pit-trap would help. A regular spiked pit seems fine, if we cast Safe Steps on it.
We're not the only person we're making traps for.

It seems- to me, at least- that it would be pretty swell if we could make our less arcane clients a trap that doesn't require they invest in learning magic in order to not accidentally die and/or kill friendly visitors.

And to be able to place it outside our house without killing the postman. :p

Hm... I just feel like we're on a timer after some jackass found our stash. I just know they blabbed to every adventurer in the nearest tavern about it.

we most likely are on a timer, but I don't think it is short enough that taking an action to design better traps before implementing them is an issue.

Given that it will take a while for the story spread, and given that the merchant basically cleaned us out, it is more likely to put us on the map for future burglaries rather than inspire immediate burglaries. He will, after all, likely be telling people that there was, but is no longer, a lot of gold there.

I think we have time enough to add a better mousetrap to our repertoire before we add to our traps.

Rereading the update, I misrecalled.

Anyway, 59 part budget. I figure we need to do some quick and dirty fixes right now, then do more when we can get more parts.

[X] Start setting up traps. (Applying safe steps as you go)
-[X] Install the security lock in the front door, then set up a pair of blade launcher traps and a spiked chain trap to fire at the area in front of the door when it is tampered with, to hopefully catch anyone standing around for their thief buddy to break in. (25 parts)
-[X] Set up a pressure plate on the floor beneath the door to our gate, with an on/off switch that arms it when the front door has been triggered. Set up a swinging scythe trap, and a pair of blade throwers to fire from the door towards the house when the pressure plate is triggered. (25 parts)
-[X] Set up a scything blade trap near our stash, to catch anyone trying to steal from us. (7 parts, total 57 parts used.)

What do people think of this distribution? Basically, increase the amount of damage and debilitation done by the initial strike, which should synergise well with having a swarm of soldiers attack intruders. It also provides some basic defence against people trying to flee, and puts provisions against any cleverdicks like that merchant.

I figure we should probably stick around the house for a while during their most likely window of attack (and while we wait for more parts in stock.) Thus maybe we should work on plans, study magic, etc.

[X] Repair your home and reinforce your back wall with wood. You aren't risking this happening again. (45 Parts)

...Well then. After all that debate, we're learning magic.

I'll start typing up the update.

Eventually we're going to have so much machinery stuffed into our house that we might as well just give it the ability to transform into a giant adventurer-stomping mecha.

I can't help but wonder if this is just throwing good money after bad and it would instead be better to try and find somewhere new and more hidden to relocate to.

Learing Magic
After fixing your wall, you spend the rest of your night studying the spellbook that you received earlier today. The pages were worn, the words were faded, and the leather was barely holding it together. You spend as much time trying to decipher the words on the page.

One wonders why the adventurer even bothered to keep it. Adventurers generally toss anything they can't use or sell.

Maybe he hadn't gotten around to tossing it yet.

Trying to learn most of the spells in the book would be useless. If the pages aren't illegible, then they are completely missing. Still, you manage to find a few spells in the book that you could learn. The words aren't too faded and you could probably piece together anything you still can't read.

[] Nova Shot: A Non Elemental blast of magical energy.

[] Winter's Touch: An Elemental Spell that launches a blast of cold.

[] Cure: A minor healing spell. Mostly good for healing cuts, scrapes and bruises.

[] Pump-Up: A basic, strength enhancing spell.

What sort of limits are we talking here?

Is this a 'You can only learn one' type deal, or are we able to learn all of these spells in time?

[x] Cure: A minor healing spell. Mostly good for healing cuts, scrapes and bruises.

We don't fight directly and healing is always usefull, to us or our neighbors.

Buff will be useful after we learn to fight, or if we suddenly need to be able to lift unreasonable loads for a while.

However, for now, I think non-elemental damage would be the most useful in a fight.

What comes most strongly to mind is Kevin McCallister. "This is my house, I have to defend it."

I would have agreed after today but:
I can't help but wonder if this is just throwing good money after bad and it would instead be better to try and find somewhere new and more hidden to relocate to.

After this I am thinking just fuck everything. We were fucking robbed literally a few hours after our house was broken into and wrecked while we were in town buying stuff to fix our house only for some assholes to just walk through our wrecked door that we didn't even have time to fix and into our house without taking any damage whatsoever including finding our secret door and stealing all our shit. I played some quests were some really bad things happened but I managed to roll through it but this shit right here? This is the type rage inducing bullshit that just makes me want to rage quit.
