"HANDS OFF MY STUFF!" Fighting the Adventurer Menace

Break-In
As the sun started to set, you went to work on repairing your home. Thankfully, besides your gate and your door, most of the damage was a few holes in the walls. It wouldn't take long to fix.

At least, that's what you thought until you got back inside.

As soon as you got inside, instead of a series of head sized holes in your back wall, there was not a single large one. A hole large enough for a man to get through.

A hole that leads straight to your escape tunnel.

"Oh no..." You mutter as you grab your lantern and sprint through escape tunnel. You thought that it would be safe back there. Anyone who would want to steal from you would have to get past two floors worth of traps and your soldiers to get to it.

As you go through your tunnel, your worst fears are realized.

You don't know who did it. Maybe it was an adventurer, maybe it was a neighbor, maybe it was just someone who passed by your house. Whoever it was, they took a lot of stuff from your stash.

Your Gold is what you first notice was gone. Well, not all of it, but as you start to count, you realize that almost half of the gold you had is gone.

You scramble to see what else is gone. Your knives are there, your armor is here, the halberd is here, as is your health potion.

But your gauntlets are both gone.

If there was small blessing, is that you don't see any footprints other than your own going any further. Whoever was in here, you don't think, that they didn't go any further. They apparently were content with what they had already taken. Or they were loaded down. So they didn't find the exit to your tunnel.

It was a small blessing, considering what you've already lost.

But after all this, after finally fighting off adventurers, after finally defending your home, someone walked through your door and took your things.

AGAIN!

Your hands start to shake. You put in so much work to defend yourself and...

You take a deep breath. Getting angry wasn't going to do you any good if you didn't follow it up with action. You weren't letting that happen again. But first, you needed to fix the damage to your home. It was going to be a larger job than you planned, but you could still do it.

City

[] Silver Shark Weapons Shop: Most of the weapons were sold to the store by adventurers, and most of them are bought by adventurers as well. Has a large, constantly changing stock.
[] Go to the Margery's General Store. It has little bit of everything. Some of it possibly stolen.
[] Go to the Howes Hardware: Store. It has all the parts you need to make some traps.
[] Go to the Sparking Mountain Magic Shop: From spellbooks, runes, to magical devices that anyone can use, this shop has it all.

I remember a dexter's laboratory episode involving label guns.

We should engrave our initials on everything we own.

In large, neon pink letters.

It was your fault for bein' in that neck of the woods and bein' unneighborly, city-slicker.
Snatch reference? No?

I'd recommend a butcher's shop, but that's just me.
Whoah, whoah, whoah, feeding the corpses of those who tried to kill youto pigs is one thing, but peddling in manflesh (and not the fun kind of peddling in manflesh) is a bit beyond the pale.

But more saliently, it doesn't really seem geared towards corpse disposal. You have to either heavily process all of the meat yourself (still having to dispose somehow of the distinctive parts), or have staff you can trust absolutely, then you have to sell it to the public, and hope no oversights blow the whole thing open. A fingernail in the mince, etc.

More than that, you still have to get rid of the skeleton, so selling off the flesh isn't really going to help you there.

Blood and bone fertiliser is probably the best thing in our situation. On account of us being a farmer, and no-one having to deal with the remnants.

[X] Sketch up some plan for traps.
-[X] A trapdoor pit-trap

If we could make pit-traps safe to traverse when not armed, and rapidly resettable, that will make our lives so much easier when we trap the fuck out of this place.

Clearly we need to trap the tunnel more now. I'm thinking a pitfall trap, followed by a cave in one

Well, Def certainly responded in a very plausible and human way. Well done Game Master.

It is definitely time to reinforce that wall. Random holes in the wall are just so last century. After all, we aren't playing Zelda.

I have no particular vote for what to do next, but eventually finding a way to track down stuff we formally claim as our own would be nice. It will almost certainly require rather high level magic and/or engineering skills though, so it will have to be a long-term project.

Do we even have pendulum traps, or spiked pit traps that can be rendered safe to walk on? @MData?

Hire the neighbors to dig a ten foot deep trench completely encircling our property, place sharpened wooden spikes in the bottom, buy exotic meat eating pets to put in the trench that fit between or are otherwise unharmed by the spikes, build a flip up cover for the trench disguised as a knocked down fence, rig the cover to open so that the now erect and surprisingly sturdy fence adds 5 feet to the height needed to escape the pit. Now you need levitation magic to escape, which is difficult when exhausted from the ordeal inside and especially while weighted down with loot. For increased hilarity aquire a grasping tentacle type of plant that grows well on pit trap lids disguised as knocked over fences that reach an additional 5 feet out for anyone attempting to grapple or fly over the hazard.

Now I feel like an ass for not bringing up my concerns about the hole leading to our escape tunnel before.

Want to join me in sketching up traps so we can actually do what you are proposing?

so...lemme get this straight, a merchant managed to get through all of our traps with no bodily harm...'kay.

really random dice rolls with the site's roller suck.

most of our traps were already expended and we had some holes put in our wall to our escape tunnel already which he opened up more.

I don't see why a trapdoor pit-trap would help. A regular spiked pit seems fine, if we cast Safe Steps on it.
Safe steps prevents us from falling foul of it, but it doesn't allow us to, say, place a spiked put trap outside the front door, or at our gate, and have it only become dangerous after traps deeper within are triggered.

Being able to have people believe that pit traps are safe ground because they already walked over it is HUGE!

Edit:what is a pendulum trap?

I would like that, but A. what does it have to do with the setup I have planned, and B. how does making yet another trap that can benefit from the delayed trigger help us learn how to set up a delayed trigger?

The result of me getting confused about what swinging scythe traps are called.

A: Well, there's the fact that your plan involves a spiked pit trap, and that upgrading them first would make sense, but mostly it is that we seem typically to be able to design multiple traps in a sitting, and I thought you wanted to design a new trap.
and B. how does making yet another trap that can benefit from the delayed trigger help us learn how to set up a delayed trigger?
B: It doesn't, and we already know how to do it?
On-Off Switch (V1): One switch, one trap that you can turn on and off. (8 Parts)

The result of me getting confused about what swinging scythe traps are called.
Fair enough.
