I'm pretty sure voting is over, why else would he be asking for dice?

Getting Information
[X] Do you still want to get paid?
-[X] offer 100 gold for five minutes of his time.
--[X] Ask who really hired him and why.
--[X] attempt Heal on Reason
-[X] offer him another 100 gold for his silence.
--[X] let him die by gate trap, have mage ensure death.
---[X] recollect gold.

"Hey, you. Do you till wanna get paid?" You ask the mercenary."I have a bag full of a hundred gold with your name on it."

"What?" he says, clearly confused. He clearly didn't expect you to offer him gold. But he stops backing up.

"What?" Lorena says, looking at you as if you were crazy.

You keep holding Incentive's head up, but you keep an eye on the man. You don't intend for him to leave this place alive. But you need to know just who this guy was working for. Before, it just individual adventurers targeting you. And that was just because they wanted a little bit of money. Now? There was a specific person who was after you. Someone with enough money to hire mercenaries to capture you. You needed to know who this person was, because you highly doubt that they were just going to leave you alone. You needed to get as much information on them as you can.

"You answer some questions for me, I will let you go, and I will give you a hundred gold. But if you run..." You glance around at the fallen mercenaries around you, betting that he will get the message. To your right, Lorena is feeding Inventive the Health Potion. Slowly, Lorena pulls the bolt out of Incentive. Her veins and muscles repair themselves as the bolt is removed.

"...L-l-l-look, we were just hired to bring you to this guy... I think his name was Anthony Thorne. He wanted to know about the traps you put up in Domonic's building"

"That's a start." You say. You had a feeling that Domonic was involved in something. You don't know how much he was involved in, but it was apparently enough to have some enemies.

You're starting to regret working for the man in the first place.

"So, who exactly is this Thorne?" You ask.

"Look, Aldrich was the one who knew about him, and..." He looks down at the sword and shield wielding mercenary. "All I know is that he was connected and we met at him at the basement of the Crossed Hammers." To your right, The wound in Incentive's body closes. She lets out a soft whine, but she looks a lot better.

"Really..." You think about it. You've heard of the Crossed Hammers. A weapons shop near the north section of the city. You've heard there's good stock there, though it's farther than the Silver Shark and the prices high, so you chose to go there.

"Yeah. They just had me scout out this place while they were negotiating yesterday. I barely saw the guy" He says.

You grit your teeth. If that was true, then that would explain what your dogs were barking at yesterday. It may have been him. And if he was there while you were working on making your gate traps, that would explain why they went over the fence instead of going through the gate. It would explain how he found out about Lorena too.

You start thinking. It looks like he isn't leaving through the gate like you planned. You're going to have to find another way to kill him.

Though you still have time to get information from him.

[X] Note that you would much rather NOT have to kill him. You are used to people doing this kind of thing just for business. Besides, he is likely in dire straits considering his boss won't likely take the complete failure of his mission and his blabbing very well.
[X] Make an offer: if he sticks around around town, we can take down his old boss together. Then we can maybe speak to Domonic on his behalf for new employment. Everybody lives...well, everybody present at any rate.
[X] If he tries to make a break for it or refuses, however, tell Lorena to kill him.

We get extra rogue to take down the competing crime boss with, we do Domonic a favor, and we won't feel bad afterwards for killing a doe-eyed youth. Sweet deal if you ask me.

Of course, in case he refuses we go back to standard operating procedure.

Note: Build spike pit traps behind the fence.

The fence itself should keep children and other individuals without malicious inclinations out, and a row of pits should stop everyone else. Like a moat, sort of.

Also replace the currently useless scythe traps with hammer traps instead. And start building more rooms.

Learning some subtle enchanting to do stuff like making floor slippery for opponents or concealing a nice surprise trap might also be good choice.

We also REALLY need to learn basics of self-defense. We can put our unseen servants and friends to work building while we train.

let him know but let him know he owes us for both not warning us that working for him could cause us problems, not selling him out, and for letting him know trouble is heading his way. information is expensive.

Depending on how much other hired muscle Thorne has with him taking him out might be dicey, even with Lorena and the turncoat's help. Still, I do think anyone who's resourceful enough not to become trap bait is a good subordinate for domonic, especially since he still has rivals on his home tuft.

I don't believe in wasting time or effort fucking around with an unreliable guy like that, no clue what he'll do. Plus his scouting helped make this battle far harder than it needed to be.

(The other was people trying to be cute with wording...)

just binge read, yeah...This guy isn't worth the trouble.

I think it's important that Def retains a positive image. She kills in rightful defense of her life and property, because she has to. As such, I do think she ought to show mercy to those who surrender, albeit tempered with common sense. She's not a villain hoarding mounds of treasure that seeks to slaughter adventurers; she just wants to make her neighborhood a safer place. It may be a bit idealistic for the murderhobo portrayal of the setting and potential heat increases, but if played right, taking the moral high ground may allow the spared adventurers to spread our positive image and magnanimity, or at the very least convince them we are a bad target.
In this case, and others like it, we have something to gain from keeping this guy alive: intel and an inside man.

On another note, Damien needs to know this ASAP. Maybe throw in a "What the hell, mate? I thought helping you would make me more safe, not less." Maybe we can use this to gain some more protection.

Can't say I really give a damn about this guy, and having an untrustworthy ally is much more of a negative than Def need to learn how to deal with killing people.

Given how paranoid Lorena was about us keeping our word when we recruited her, I don't want to lie in front of her.

She's a big girl. she knows how things work. you go into peaceful negotiations you keep your word. they try to kill you, all bets are off.
