Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

  1. Two levels, five chambers each
  2. There are two entrances, now three with one of the rooms blowing up, the one you have not seen so far is an underground escape hatch that seems to lead from what looks like the leader's chamber into a long tunnel that eventually connects with the sewers
  3. The place looks like more of a bunker than anything, though they have been doing something magical with this dragon's nest as far as Molly can tell
Of course there are sewers and an escape tunnel. Figures.
Better get going.

How large are the chambers? ~10 square meters each? 30? 100? I am trying to estimate how many beings this facility can / is likely to house.

And it seems the chambers are isolated from each other. We'll probably have to choose between pursuing the escaping leader and leaving the base to reds or securing the base and letting the leader escape. Unless we earn loyalty of the reds here.

Or they need sacrifices / participants for whatever they are doing to the Dragon's Nest. Maybe they are doing an emergency summoning. Though that's unlikely.

So, anyway, more argument for my stunt: we need to earn loyalty of the reds and to motivate them to do their best. We already provided the stick, scaring them not to (immediately) betray us. Now, we need a carrot. A promise of some sort of favor, or a gift, even a symbolic one - we look like a demon, those things matter.

There's also a possiblity of turning them to our side, I feel. I mean, their leader at least seems to feel betrayed by God, and to believe humanity to be something beautiful. Worse beings have been redeemed. It might be doable.

The rooms are between 20 and 30 square meters and hey are all connected by corridors for form the pentagram of the base.

Oh, so it's also a great ritual site... The hypothesis that their forces are tied in whatever it is they are doing with the dragon's nest seems more probable.

Good idea.

-Sacrifice/summoning is possible. Unlikely, if you think you are getting jumped by an archdevil, but possible

-You dont earn the loyalty of Red Court vampires. Thats not how this works.
You can coerce or bribe their cooperation, but there is fuckall chance of loyalty of a group. Do remember that the Fomor, the Muck dwellers, the guys whose operation we are here to eviscerate? Are their allies. Their backers in the Vampire War.

They supplied them with at least one WMD.

-Their leader is irredeemable.
All that internal dialogue is just self-justification; see all the professions of loyalty to the person that turned him.
You dont make it to a place of power in that hierarchy without wholehearted adherence to its governing principles.

And De Leon himself was a participant in the Spanish rape, and I use that word deliberately, of Latin America. Where Cortez and friends lied and cheated and betrayed and fucked over the subcontinent.
He was not a nice person even before he got Turned.

Yeah no.

Im not sure in what universe you'd actually get Molly to say shit like this in combat, let alone with her father in tow, but its not this one. We are not friends with Reds, just allies of convenience. Molly would squick at the idea of eating nearhuman meat, and the idea of making drinking implements out of enemy skulls is repugnant. Nor would we make promises of rewards to Reds.

This is at significant variance to Molly's previous characterization.
And frankly, to the setting.

If Nicodemius Archleone is redeemable, even if he himself actively doesn'twant redemption, then I refuse to believe this person isn't.

Until we attacked them, they had very little way of learning who attacked them. On thenother hand, it would makes sense if they are in the process of casting "summon bigger fish" under an assumption that an archdevil and a Knight of the cross teamed up, took a death god for a ride, and are coming to kick their teeth in. "Minions won't matter in the face of this, we need bigger guns" is a viable logic.

That's true. If we can work with Mab, we can work with him. If we can work towards redeeming Lash, we can work towards redeeming him.

I could switch to carving the worm for trophies. But the idea of offering reds a possible trophy / reward has merit.

However, I can see where you are coming from.

OK, changing the stunt:

See above.
You dont send out 12x frogmen and 1x invisible assassin to attack 18x Rampires, 1 glowing demon thing and a submersible.
Thats all the hallmarks of a patrol force caught outside and responding immediately, possibly under orders of a surprised sorcerer.
Yes but you also dont need that many troops outside of the base unless you are expecting an attack. 8 is more than enough to sound the alarm and make some time to prepare the defenses, both due to the number and due to the fact that the right is on water in which they have advantage. Both the Assassin and the spellcaster are exagerations for a simple patrole, unless of course they knew we were going to attack here and use the information received to prepare better. It does not mean that they dont have more troops or that there arent any more dangers there, only that there was an increase of security due to our last attack

@DragonParadox
Could we learn vampire thaumaturgy as linear magic? Various sorc books speak about allowing to learn appropriate sorceries from other splats, with blood sorcery being one of the examples. Sometimes with a 1-2 dot adjustment, though.

It is a pretty big expansion to potential path pool, if so.

Maybe calling out that the swarm is just buying time for the sorcerer to do whatever it wants? That might work for the stunt.

Also, I just realized that this is a Dragon's Nest, which is good for us in that we can recover essence here after the fight if we take time to investigate. Lydia too, actually, and she has a harder time recovering than we do because she doesn't have CSR as a charm and can't take a bleach bath. Also means that this place might be worth securing after we get BSM and can operate properly underwater. Although that might have to wait until we have amphibious minions to play support staff. Or maybe just regular minions and the charm to bless people with immunity to damage from liquids, including by drowning. Or some other charm that grants water breathing, through mutation or… I guess someone could theoretically wish for the ability to breathe underwater from VEE? Something to think about.

We have a better option near home, we only have to repair it and clean it. But the essence recovery is nice

This. All of this. We are working with a Knight of the Cross here, one who is also our father.
All I'm saying is that we should at least give it the old college try (is that how the saying goes?), or at least deal with him in good faith.

Theoretically redeemable doesn't really mean that this specific guy must be redeemed. If anything, context makes things very difficult and dangerous.

TBH Charred Simmer kind of made nodes much less important for Molly than for any other type of Exalts.

No, Molly does not have the mindset for it, if she were an Abyssal maybe, but thematically she does not have much in common with their hunger.

[] This is a distraction, you realize as you fend off the third attacker in as many seconds, the coppery smell of blood in the water around you and -ugh- in your mouth. An effort of will sends the frogmen shying away as script flares to baleful life on your skin and clothes, buying you a respite to look around the battlefield. Contempt twists your mouth for a moment as you see their nominal leader fastened fang first in the thrashing body of a Fomor assassin-beast, command forgotten as his underlings milled around. Seize his weapon, mighty one Usum urges. Then you begin to snap out orders over the radio net.

I am not sure this in particular is a particularly big obstacle, tbh. A lot... actually, most vampiric Paths aren't really attached to blood and hunger and stuff at all. Very few thaumathurgy paths are linked to vampiric condition.

Yeah, not useful in the short term, but something to eventually keep in mind for the medium-long term when we eventually decide to spread our web out past Chicago. Or if we have something we want to do like with crafting or a ritual where we could potentially burn out the power of the Nest we use and don't want to risk somewhere more conveniently-located. No use shutting down a Dragon's Nest that we actually want to keep around and functioning when we could use somewhere more expendable instead, after all.

On the more ambitious side of things, we probably can do something cool by taking control of a bunch of nodes and magically linking them all together.

A lot of energy is a lot of energy.

I mean, this is obviously a patrol force.
There are 18x Rampires in the water. Why would you only send out 12x frogmen?
They'll just get eaten to power up the Reds.
I can see the plan being.

1. Send out sacrificial force to bloodlust the reds
2. Have invisible assassin kill the leader.
3. Lead the maddened headless mob of blood lusted idiots into a trap.
