Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

If a car has power steering then anybody can just drive it off the road. And if it was made after the 80s it has a computer on it. Car are super easy to hack and take over. They have basicly no secruity, and all the parts are networked so a single security flaw means you have full access to everything. Also GPS are a very common bit of tech even then. Any decent hacker would have a dozen programs that would hack it pretty much instantly.
This is not true.

Hacking a car pre-late 2010s required a physical connection to the car's computer bits, in addition to a computer and specialized software suite. Even today, most car network security flaws are about things like realtime tracking, breaking the security of the keyless fob or making a particular part fail. Hijacking the car is not a thing.

This is not true. GPS was not a very common bit of tech back then at the consumer level for mainstream cars. I can go out on the street right now and look at 2006 vintage cars. It was a relative minority of people who could bother to buy a four hundred dollar Garmin for their 20-40k private car. It wasnt until smartphones took off properly that private car GPS became routine.

Again why give away information about our abilities at all. We know where she is that is all she needs to know. Nobody offers up details about how they know something.
Her boss is Odin, also known as Kringle. Winter King. He can directly ask Mab what was in Arctis Tor and expect a reply.

In our breakout from Arctis Tor in front of the Winter Court, we demonstrated a magic sword, master swordsmanship, durability, an anima full of eyes, and Green Sun Nimbus Flare. At the bone exchange, when Gorfel attacked in front of Marcone's men,we demonstrated a magic sword, the ability to take a full magazine of AR/AK fire to the face and walk it off, and masterwork armor.

At school, we demonstrated the reflexes and ability to vault off a car and pluck a falling kid out of the air to a safe landing.
That actually made the local news with video, and there's probably video on the Internet.
Essentially everything we are putting forward is stuff she will know or infer after half a days research.

And finally, if you're asking for someone's help, and asking them to risk their lives on your say so, you need to advance some token of trust. You're going to be entrusting this person to cover your back so you dont die.
You dont have to be bosom buddies, or tell them all your secrets, but dont treat them like idiots.

Do the Outsiders really know that, though? Nothing escaped that alley alive, except possibly the lesser Outsider servitors that the Reds brought with them. They might have withdrawn their tentacles or tongues or whatever parts of themselves that were extruded into our reality, or we might have obliterated them. They might have survived but could lack the necessary sentience to pass on to more intelligent Outsiders what they actually experienced.

If there is even a slight chance they aren't aware it was us who so easily dispatched them, I really don't think we should go out of our way to advertise the ability. Even if the Outsiders are aware of us, this is still valuable information to keep to ourselves if only to avoid drawing more attention than we're ready to deal with.

I disagree about the necessity of explaining our use of spirits. It's non-relevant information that Gard simply doesn't need
Infernal Exalted are old enough that I expect that Outsiders can recognize the fire just fine.

Besides, Ebenezar was going to talk about this stuff, and everything else around Molly to the Senior Council as part of convincing them that Molly is outside their jurisdiction. The Senior Council whose secretary is Samuel Peabody, Black Council traitor.
That particular horse bolted the barn a month ago.

====
Agree to disagree.
I think its important that we have an explanation for what we're doing., Otherwise,Gard is not stupid; she'll infer, either immediately or in the aftermath that we can do something realtime.

All we achieve is potentially hobbling ourselves in a critical moment. Or insulting her.
Which is something even Harry managed to avoid.

And thats assuming her funky insight thing doesnt activate.
Or that she doesnt notice one of those little cyberdevils around in a traffic light or security camera in a month or two and put two and two together.

  • [X][Ask]
-[X]Katrina: Known capabilities and weaknesses if any. Known backup/associates. What did she betray, if relevant?
-[X]Gard: If she knows or has met the current Eldest Ankou in Chicago; Choosers and related lines of work because they are both retired psychopomps. If she has heard of a Black Feast or the Capriocorpus. If she will back us up, short Cliff Notes of what she feels is relevant to her combat capabilities
-[X]Valkyries: Any chance of backup from any of her sisters in the next couple hours?
-[X]Monoc Security: And just what does Odin One-Eye do these days in his retirement/new line of work?
[X] We are an extremely skilled melee combatant, specializing in the use of a magical sword we can summon or dismiss at will. We are also more difficult to injure and can fight at full capacity with wounds which would be crippling if not fatal for a regular mortal.
-[X] While it isn't likely to be relevant in a fight, we have some limited talents related to divination. This is how we were able to track Katrina's car after we encountered her at Matthews' home. We cannot, however, track her if she changes vehicles or travels using some other method.
-[X] Share with Gard what we have learned of Matthews' likely abilities as well.
    [X] [Reveal] Melee+Magic Sword+Superhuman Durability+Spirit Wrangling+Limited Divination
-[X]There's a pause. "Y'know my dad." Molly starts, waving a hand vaguely in his direction. "Me? Im still figuring everything out, but Im very good at armed melee." Lowering her voice a little further, she continues."I carry a magic sword that has been able to hurt anything I've hit with it so far, whether fae, Red Court vampire or Outs....spirit, and I can make it hit even harder. Im tougher than vanilla humans, I heal really good afterwards, and Im really hard to pull a mind whammy on. I also have a little skill with divination, and at wrangling some types of minor spirits."
[X] [Reveal] Be straightforward about your abilities and answer questions. You don't need to hide much here aside from the fact that you're still growing. Everything else is basically fair game really.
[x] Your a great fighter, and you mantaged to bug her car so we have a good idea of where she it.
[X] [Ask] What are Katrina's known capabilities? How does she fight, what should you look out for? Importantly, do you need to worry about death curses when fighting her? And, if Gard knows, how is she afraid of death? The ritual she's attempting won't work otherwise, but such a fear seems to run counter to her nature.
[X] Share everything but our Demon Summoning, Crown of Eyes, and Shintai (because we dont know about it IC). If pressed about the tracking ability, share that we can track electronics we come into contact with.
[X][Reveal] We're supernaturally competent at a limited range of skills, can heal from injuries that regular humans can't, have some limited clairvoyance, and can summon minor spirits of technology.
[X] Explain your suspicions about Lydia to Gard and ask her if she can pass/underwrite a message warning her and her father of the danger.
[x] [Reveal] Melee Skills, Green Fire, Mental Defense, Anima Flare, known capabilities of Capricorpus and Matthews, tracker on the car of Katrina
[X] [Ask] Capabilities of Katrina, relevant capabilities of Gard
[X] [Extra] Subtly use your crown to ask for Cindy's location
[x][Reveal] Sword skills, GSNF, and durability. If pressed, mention some minor spirits we can summon for info gathering.
-[x] Molly settles into her seat and rolled her eyes heavenward in thought. "I've become a master of armed combat, superhumanly durable, and I've got a green fire that can 'seriously' put a hurt on people. And what it burns is a... " Molly stops and glances at her father, sitting with her, and clears her throat. "That is, it's very difficult to heal, even with magic. Oh, and I can pull a sword out of thin air... as far as I know." Molly shrugs. "I'm not even sure of what I've become. Ask me next week and I could... " Molly searches for something something insane. "I could become a cyberpunk Santa's reindeer and I wouldn't know it."
[x][Ask] Cwenhild's abilities and what she can even potentially bring to bear in this situation.
-[x]Molly takes a deep breath, leans forward on the table, and looks Gard in the face. "Look, I'm going to be honest here. My father and I are going into this trying to save a little girl, and help save a penitent man's soul, and my sum total knowledge of Valkyries comes from reading Thor comics, the cliff notes for the Ring Cycle for a book report when I was a freshman, and what you've mentioned here. I don't even know enough to know what to ask. So, I'm going to lay it out here; what do I need to know about her? Can she fly, or turn invisible? Does she have any magical weapons or items I need to worry about? Known allies or minions? How good is she in a fight? What does she know about magic, can she cast spells in anyway? What do I need to worry about from her?"

5)Kattrina's original name being Cwenhild is Old English; Lancastershire, according to Google.

It helps us date Kattrin, and Gard herself; the fact that her father was an English priest from when England was barely a nation puts her birthdate prior to the 10th century AD, when England's first king Aethelstan was crowned.
At least a thousand years old.

Max of around seventeen hundred years if her father was a Christian, since Christianit came to England around the 3rd century AD. Potentially much older if he was a pagan priest.
She old and scary as fuck.
I suspect Kattrin is born relativly late in that area, for the following sentence:
"Perhaps her fate was always a dark one, made a herald of the Victory Bringer on the eve of his defeat.
She became a Valkyrie during a time when Odin's faith was already waning. Now I don't know exactly when the Christian religion overtook the Northern ones to the point that you would call it a defeat, particularly since I don't know if she means Odin loosing his status in Iceland, England or in the last holdouts in Skandinavian regions, but that seems to be a good point ot call her birth-date.

In canon, the events of the short story Heorot, where Dresden and Gard team up to hunt down a grendelkin and rescue a virgin woman he'd kidnapped to rape, impregnate and eat in that order? They imply that Gard is a descendant of Beowulf.

The Beowulf poem is currently dated to around the sixth century AD.
Christianity allegedly came to Scandinavia sometime in the 8th century, with the first dioceses being set up around the 11th century. So that would work.

However given the framing of that quote?
I personally suspect that in this timeline, she was born pre-Christ,. With the eve of the Victory Bringer's defeat dating to the creation of Christianity as a religion. Could be wrong, of course.

Either way, she's at least a thousand years old.
That makes her an near-contemporary of Rashid the Gatekeeper, who dates back to at least the 8th century AD when he killed the author of the Necronomicon, the Mad Arab Abdul Alhazred. Hell, that makes her a near-contemporary of Mab.

That should be moderately bowel-loosening.
Fortunately, Molly doesnt know enough to be terrified :V

Honestly, Exalted have little reason to be intimidated by age alone.

If you are created to kill things that existed before they themselves invented the concept of linear time, age hardly matters.

Dunno if this has been retcon'd, but looks worth noting:
Hmmm, let me think what I can share out.

Eb's enemies got to his wife. That is, ultimately, why he hid his daughter and had little to do with her until she was grown and had shown that she had power. And, ultimately, why she wound up being a wild child and rebel and getting into a world of trouble that ultimately resulted in her death (but also Harry Dresden).

Drakul wasn't a scion of anything! He was something entirely unhuman that got trapped in human form. Dracula was his half-human child, who naturally had enormous paternal issues, and wound up creating himself as the first Black Court Vampire in an effort to win his father's approval.

It didn't work out so well.

Age alone, no.
But age generally correlates to personal power and resources for mages and Exalts, in both Creation and the Dresdenverse.
So when you see someone old with lots of enemies, it says they were powerful or canny enough to survive them.

Instant red flag.

Does anyone else get the feeling of the abrahamic God likely slaughtered a bunch of the old pantheon stuff in this quest or well made them bow down? Now this is quest stuff I do want to note that angels are canonically older than the universe and that jim butcher said that gods and such were told by the big WG basically did this.
"Eventually at some point in the Dresden Files history there came a point where the Creator was like "okay guys, you were supposed to guide and protect humanity. You sort of did okay in some instances and some places but now it's time for the humans to be making their own way and everybody needs to step off and do it. And if you want to stay involved in the affairs of humanity you're going to have to play and be subject to death as a mortal just like everybody else."

Which doesn't suggest much of a fight from well Gods standpoint so much as literally layering the laws into reality and gods and similar beings having to go along with it at least for the most part I'm sure it caused some conflicts. Anyone have anything to say about this it could obviously be different in quest and in the books?

Oh also God being from what we've seen being a being well beyond the mere trappings of one school of thought where holy things of him can come in different cultural lens and still being holy. Universal that is from what jim butcher has said. So not merely an abrahamic thing. Since clearly everything listened to what the White God said I figure their something more like the idea of all those creator gods and no one thing having a complete picture.

No.
Insufficient fear and cowering when angels and angel-aligned stuff comes around.
The Red Court would have been a lot more circumspect in a universe where the White God had pressed the SMITE button in the last two millenia.

1)is there any way a wizard could absorb the magic of another wizard to become more powerful?

2)In Backup, you mention The Stygian Sisterhood.Who slice out the parts of their human personalities they don't want, and replace them with pieces torn from minds of inhuman beings.I Found that concept fascinating. How exactly the cutting of and replacing process works?

3)Can a Half-Vampire use the mental powers somes of the Red Court have? And can a wizard become a Half-Vampire and still be able to use magic?

4)How does the love spell in "Love Hurts" works exactly?

5)Can you tell us about the feeding method of the jade court?

6)How does a Faerie Gaing power? How would a weak goblin become like the Erlking?or a weak gruff become like the eldest gruff?

7)What are Arthur Langtry,Ancient Mai and gregori cristos's greateast magical abilities?
1) Yes. And it is /horrible/.

2) Psychic surgery, much like when Molly removed Harry's memory about his upcoming visitor.

3) No, the half-vamps just get partial access to the physical stuff. The other stuff comes later. They can definitely still use their talents, if they had any, or develop them if they only had latent potential.

4) Much the same way love does. How does that work, exactly?

5) No. :)

6) Time, effort, and will. Keep an eye on Toot-toot.

7) Langtry's greatest ability is the mental communication and coordination of lots of different people all at once, without going crazy himself. He's a badass at most forms of magic, but that's really his /gift/. Ancient Mai is the greatest enchanter and artifomancer on the Council--she makes the coolest magical toys. And Cristos... well, he did a stint as a Warden, and gave a good accounting of himself in the War with the Red Court, but mostly he's good at networking. :)

thanks for the quote though doesn't have much to do with what I was asking right now. It is good to know though what ancient mais specialty is which makes a lot of sense artificers can be deadly so not exactly sure why she can't be good in battle maybe its just generally better to not have the squishier artificer in combat.

Also yeah that makes more sense I'm not sure White God is at all a new thing in canon cosmology even in the idea of retroactive creation I think they were just always there just not in the ways we think.

One of the big reasons that the White God doesn't want someone that can actually get accurate answers to be asking questions about him or his servitors is probably something to do with his origins.
It probably isn't the Exalted/WoD answer though, IE "the last time you were active he was still using the name Theion".

Well that and the possible repercussions of the many other questions that could be asked.

@DragonParadox a few questions. As we are coming to the climax of this story and will be getting the xp spending turn soon, I wanted to ask a few clarifications on how certain charms work.

Opened Eye off the Hurriccane (•••••)
Infusing herself with the perfected Essence of both murder and wind, the Infernal senses the air-distortions and killing intent of all strikes made against her, and moves to perfectly counter them.
System: Spend 1 Essence and 1 Willpower reflexively to activate this Charm. For the rest of the scene, at the beginning of each turn roll Dexterity + Athletics against difficulty 7. The Infernal applies the successes on this roll as a reflexive dodge against all attacks made against her of which she is aware during that turn.
Say we roll 5 sux on this charm and are attacked 3 times in that turn. How is the 5 sux applied to the attacks?

Do we apply 5 sux on all 3 attacks, i.e. 1 attack - 5, second attack -5 and 3rd attack -5.

Or 1st attack -5, 2nd attack - remaining sux if any, 3rd attack -remaining sux if any?

Ego-Infused Pattern Primacy (•••••)
Whenever the universe dares to mar the Infernal's immaculate and ideal self, she may exert her will to reset herself to her default state of perfection.
System: Whenever the character is the subject of any supernatural power that seeks to transform, infect, taint, transport, or control her body or spirit, she may reflexively spend 1 Essence or 1 Willpower and roll Willpower against difficulty 7. Success undoes the hostile magic before it can finish affecting the Infernal, protecting her completely, and immunizes her against repeated attempts to exert the same sort of influence for the rest of the scene.
Does this shut down magic completely? What about death curses? Because how is "taint and infect" interpreted? And how is "Same sort of influence" interpreted? Like if one curse fails, do all subsequent curses fails or would it depend on the curses?

I am asking because Death Curses are not always an instant kill effect but a lasting curse also, like what happened to the Patriarch of the Raiths. Say we got cursed, would subsequently buying and using the charm remove it?

1) Why not CCC? It's extremely useful and can be used in this situation by having Gard sincerely promise to prevent us from retreating / leaving until either the child is saved or Katrina is defeated (exact wording subject to discussion)
2) About asking, there's a very important part missing - do we need to worry about death curses? Canonically, only human wizards get them. Do valkyries get them? That's need to know for certain, as it determines whether we fight lethally or non-lethally.

  1. The first, and yes I know that is strong but this is a five dot charm, it is supposed to be really powerful
  2. It can work against any magic that directly affects the Infernal, death curses included, a death curse is unraveled before it can settle so no matter what the time limit is on it the thing is gone. As to how immunity works 'curses' is too broad a category. It basically makes you immune to that manifestation of magic, so like 'all magic that would turn Molly into an animal' roll once and it is gone for the scene.

2) But Capricorpus gets one. And she's there too.
1) There can be escape clauses, and we need all the edge we can.
2) So? This isn't relevant to whether we can afford to fight Katrina lethally.

But it would have no effect if someone like Dresden just death-curses up a huge explosion?

It's good for a variety of effects, but not instant damage attacks.

On the second part, keep in mind what you talked about with Bob. The bar for Capricorpus dying is very high, you basically have to spirit kill her before she will say 'fuck it' and throw a death curse and you guys do not have any spirit killing charms yet.

Indeed we do not.

But I expect Dad's Sword will more than do. I doubt there's anything Amoracchius can't kill.

Edit: In fact Michael did deal the Deathblow to Agatha Hagglethorn. He definitely can kill ghosts.

I guess we can't spontaneously buy Murder is Meat?

Well, leaving this to the Ankou then.
Or maybe if Gard is present she could do something?
She is not currently working as a psychopomp, but some old skills might still be remembered.
