It takes a lot to get a lawyer to turn on you. Like. A lot a lot. You can straight up confess to crimes to your lawyer and they are required to still do their best to represent you and try to defend you in court. (They will often tell you to stop telling them these things, because they are not allowed to suborn perjury so they don't want to know if you're guilty, because that means there are things they can no longer argue in court. But they can still do their best to force the prosecution to prove stuff.)

But ... yeah, no, Max did cross that line, because he was trying to get his lawyer to commit crimes for him.
Did his lawyer turn on him? Based on both my reading and author comments, it's a lobbyist he talked to, not his lawyer, that is turning on him.

Also, we don't (currently) know who the man in the mask is. Coil/Marquis agent, or paid intermediary? But it's quite clear the lobbyist he tried to lean on isn't in the least a 'happy bunny' and is prepared to go to major lengths (possibly wreck their personal life) to see Max... gets his just desserts.

"Wait if this is about our tinker project why is Missy here?" Trevor whined.

"She is to be commended," replied Armsmaster in a level tone, "for her quick thinking in preventing you from proceeding further."

Missy barely refrained from rolling her eyes, as Trevor wilted in his seat. Of course she had been included, she had inspired… whatever they were doing, and wasn't going to be left out!

"It was therefore recommended," continued Armsmaster, "that she be included in this briefing and I have no reason to disagree."

Translation, he has a checklist for this too. Probably reading it on that visor of his.

"While you are to be commended for your creativity, from your reports it is clear that even you do not fully appreciate the implications of your work." Without visible outward movement from Armsmaster, a projector turned on, displaying a slide full of schematics entitled "Alcubierre Drive".

Notes: Significantly, the difference between an Alcubierre Drive and a WMD is academic at best. That said, if Missy's power can do what it does in an energy efficient fashion, then a Missy-inspired Alcubierre is not inconceivable, and seems like a reasonable (if terrifying) place to end up when Trevor's transportation shard is looking to Vista's shard for ideas.

I forget who this is... It's not one of the common 'Worm' names... I'm guessing it's Chariot...

Well, this site is called 'Sufficient Velocity'... Most space-drives are potentially WMDs. Anything that messes with fundamental physical aspects, like 'c'... can get exciting. This is one reason to do things off-planet.

Is anyone using Sphere's old Lunar Base, at the moment?

Lunar distance is quite far by the standards of distances on earth, but I'm not sure I would be happy with Vista getting creative within a few AU of where I keep my stuff and, you know, live.
Theoretically, shards can be configured for interplanetary work, rather than the Earth-Luna range limit. Might need to use Broadcast to do that, which isn't... desirable. Mars? Ceres? Titan? Further out?
(Yeah, hostile environments. Maybe if Dragon studied Sphere's Lunar base she could help?)

I believe this is Leet, in this fic. Uber and Leet don't have canonical names, so it's up to a fanfic author to come up with one, if they're being given a civilian name. In one story I'm working on, I got around this with the AU that one of Leet's inventions actually caused them to forget what their actual names are. Chariot and Circus don't usually make appearances in fanfics. And I don't think either have even been mentioned in this one.

Note, Leet's not a transportation tinker unless that's an AU element for this fic. He can make vehicles, sort of, but can only make any given system or component once without it becoming highly unstable explodium on him.

I couldn't think who it might be, recall a name, so I looked at the wiki entry for Tinker, then Known Tinkers. Chariot looked the closest, as 'Specializes in all forms of mobility', and there's no teleportation Tinkers listed. Also, I was surprised to see 'Trevor' as a given name in the Chariot link, which I didn't recall from my reading of 'Worm'.

Odds seem good?

Chariot's name is literally Trevor in the hyperlink you quoted.
It's too quiet
Well, Grue at least was agreeable, as was the new Ward, Chariot.

Heart-Wakers part 6
"Hey, pause! Can you make me that?!" Vista said excitedly, gesturing at the TV with her energy drink.

"Ahhhh," replied Kid Win, as Chariot was Very Busy helping Dinah in her efforts to unstick a cheap lock from Weld.
There's more quotes I could pull depicting Trevor as Chariot as the guy in the update, but this was already stretching how not lazy I could be. Back to being lazy for now.

They ran off to find themselves? To join the circus?
A circus full of animatronic animals, and exotic (mostly not human) performers could be interesting?

And, just before their Mid-West SH9 encounter, with guest performer Mouse Protector, SH9 had a... Dr. Weaver situation?

So, on balance, people's lives were improved by their existence?

???

Or, people just forget about them? :)

"Should you wish to proceed with this project, I have identified a number of reference materials you will need to first study as a matter of basic safety. You may also wish to further your studies of advanced math. I have included as well, of course, refresher materials on the proper policies and procedures for when initiating a new tinker project of this magnitude."

Chris and Trevor shared a look, as Missy leaned forward in interest. As if something inspired by my power wouldn't be high level awesome!

"In particular," continued Armsmaster, "if you are able to make progress on creating or sidestepping the need for negative mass, myself and a number of others will be highly interested, as—"

Armsmaster stopped mid sentence, did that thing he did when getting a message, and then turned to Missy. "The Director requests you immediately return to the Wards room for a consultation with Insight and Lilac, after which you will be meeting with her."

At the boys' inquisitive looks, Missy scoffed as she gathered her things. "I just got commended, you heard." Maybe, after hearing about this drive thing she had inspired they'd finally realized how awesome she was. Or maybe there was even a new Ward, a girl even!

Note: Projects like this is why there are tinker review boards.

The problem is the classic one of government. So much paperwork that people will try to go around the system. It also probably results in plenty of rogue tinkers, who don't have anyone to tell them when something is a bad idea.

Being willing to put up with the BS is why government contractors are often paid so well.

"So how's your pet Nazi?" Amy asked as she and Alec waited for transit.

"Grumpy," Alec said, not looking up from his handheld game. "His wife and kids write a bunch of letters but we have to do to cognito stuff every time since sometimes they set him off."

Amy snorted. "Maybe he should have thought of that before, you know, being a Nazi."

"But that would take smarts," Alec replied. "And we know he doesn't have those because—combo, I rock—Nazi."

A comfortable silence settled over the pair, which was interrupted a few minutes later by the appearance of Dr. Weaver, via portal.

"Good," the older woman said in greeting. "The other specialist ran long," she continued, gesturing for them to follow, "and got distracted trying to integrate a wireless comms unit into the subject. Exactly the sort of thing we don't want, but of course no one told her that. Fortunately, she was able to make progress on…"

Note: Amy knows how to talk to Alec.

Poor Riley. No one ever thinks to brief her properly...

EDIT:

Surely there's no ethical objections to experimenting on Nazis?

Oh good Dr. Weaver has the Parahuman-Formerly-Known-As-Bonesaw somewhere under presumably adult supervision

The Shape of Things to Come, Part 5 New
"So who is this other specialist?" Amy asked.

"You haven't met her," Dr. Weaver confirmed, leading them out of receiving and into the facility proper. "Security. She was rescued from a villainous master. Heart is in the right place, but she has a lot to work through."

Dr. Weaver paused as they stepped aside to let a group pass, including a short man Amy didn't recognize who wore a white suit with a wooden mask. The masked man nodded to Dr. Weaver respectfully as he passed. Dr. Weaver returned the gesture, as Alec looked up, stiffened and shoved his handheld game into his pocket.

Something to ask about later.

"Mindful of her situation," Dr. Weaver continued, as they moved on, "we avoid situations where people might recognize her from when she was under his influence."

Next to Amy, Alec looked thoughtful, if still a bit shaken.

"This facility?" Dr. Weaver said, as she keyed them into a more secure wing, "As many people as we have coming through here, from as many different worlds? We have to be very careful. We don't want her to have an anxiety attack and we don't want someone else to, with the best intentions, treat her as a threat."

Note:
Alec: I know how this works, we be going to do mad science!
ACCORD INTERRUPT
Alec: fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck

Missing closing double-quote

'Weaver'?

Hmm. Where does Alec know Accord from? Fave-to-face meeting, a (warning?) file?

Poor Riley. Pity shards think their job is to reduce sanity, not improve it... I wonder what would be considered a 'good'/helpful hobby for her? How much would media she might consume sensibly need to selected?

Also, nothing quite says the power of Doctor Weaver when one major supervillain bows at her respectfully while she describes the rehabilitation of one former S9 member.

As a former supervillain himself, he should at least know a few things about other supervillains, especially someone as close to the Bay and infamous as Accord. The mask, though not described in this chapter, would've been elaborate enough to give a hint given Accord's tastes.
