Earning their Pay, Part 2
"Why the hell," the regional PRT Director asked, perplexed, "does the CUI want more time to evacuate?"

"They say they have people in the exclusion area," Dragon replied calmly.

"They just told us their response force hadn't left Shanghai."

"The endpoint their Mover needs for transport is already in the exclusion area, along with critical personnel and equipment for its operation."

"They don't have an endpoint in the designated transit area, what the fuck—" the man cut himself off abruptly. "No, later. If they want assistance extracting whatever this is, they can give you grid coordinates, volume, mass and hazard information and you can pass on to the Mover team. We aren't risking lives, and we aren't delaying."

They were already, near as he could tell, setting off something equivalent to a nuke on their own soil, in his region, and he knew they wouldn't get everyone out in time. They weren't going to risk the entire thing being for nothing because of some foreign wildcat bridgehead truce violation. But by god they would be investigating after the event.

And this, Costa-Brown is why you don't have the coordination and logistics command also be part of the combat team(s). That way they can have a more full view of the overall logistics instead of just a "boots on the ground" view.

That would have leaned too far into letting non-capes and non-combatant capes feel like they mattered, which seems to be something RCB really didn't want (not that she'd be inclined to admit that).

Might want to consider exactly which shard RCB is using? The personal avatar shard of The Thinker. Now, how might that affect her thinking?

(Consider her powers - Brute/Mover. Now, how do you mix Thinker in with that, people-reading, swift thinking, flawless memory? You'd have thought more people would be suspicious...)

Ahh, I have an idea of what's going to happen. Something like this https://codegeass.fandom.com/wiki/F.L.E.I.J.A.

I don't remember what happened to Bakuda in this story, but they could get her or another tinker to make something similar. Or a time stop bomb, or something that flash freezes the entire lake.

Eldion has been refining the targeting parameters of the endbringers and one of those parameters seems to be secret CUI operations. Which is why Behemoth is hitting there.

This is really bad for the CUI. Especially if it turns out to be an entire compound, a snatch team with some unwilling victims, or the equivalent of a secret bio-lab/nuke/other contingency.

recommend Eidolon option, immediately

I expected the next lines being Flechette taking a charged shot, and portals suddenly opening up sending the quarrel through Eidolon's head. Cue Behemoth sinking into the ground and doing anywhere from fuck-all to Radioactive Morning, followed by Tagg sighing and giving Dr. Weaver a phone call to let her know how her plan went.

This is less anticlimatic, tho.

You might want to correct your link to:
F.L.E.I.J.A.
- looks like the final full-stop got stripped off...

Might want to consider that a nuke was used when Behemoth hit Moscow - the failure of that would mean someone would need to be incredibly confident and convincing to get them to try a bomb, or anything nuclear, again...

---

I don't know what Eidolon is going to do - challenge Behemoth to a game of chess, so he's a 'worthy opponent'? Really. Dunno.

The perils of mobile...

They're not going to nuke Behemoth. They're going to empty or freeze the reservoir before it gets there. Just, that type of thing has collateral damage.

Heck, even using a real nuke to vaporize the reservoir probably has far less fallout than you would think. Not none, but still pretty minor.

Earning their Pay, Part 3
"To be clear," Kamil said precisely, "Eidolon wants a megaton range nuclear device?"

"Thinkers say it will simplify the sequencing deployment," Dragon replied.

"Elaborate," Tagg's voice replied on speaker.

"To trigger the dimensional shift requires a substantial energy kicker," Dragon said. "Eidolon can generate that, but would have to very quickly cycle between multiple powers. Valkyrie has a Shaker who can channel the blast, so it won't materially increase damage caused by the event."

"To confirm," Kamil cut in, "it gives better odds and the expected environmental impact is not worse?"

"Yes."

"Approved. Contact Air Force, and advise POTUS. If Air Force prefers you use a specific device, try to accommodate, but if there isn't time take what is needed on POTUS authority." A part of Kamil was horrified at how easy the call had been.

Note: God, can you imagine being an observer in the room with Kamil while all this is happening?

missing closing double-quote
needs re-wording; change 'the' to 'a better'?

Hmm. Give Eidolon a nuke to play with. How could that go wrong? :)
Typos fixed in text! Thanks!

Also, they're letting Eidolon and Valkyrie go mad lad at a hundred mile long lake. A megaton or two doesn't move the needle much in terms of damage.

It is, however, very useful for Eidolon's shard due to its energy constraints.

Ahh, dimensional shift. From a practical standpoint, the same as just removing it. The big question is if it's two way and atmosphere is added or if it generates a vacuum.

I mean, massive landslides and other consequences of that much water and terrain disappearing are still an issue. However, from a "blast" perspective, any side effects and what comes after really is the big thing.

Probably a swap with what's in the destination location in the parallel Earth? So, mostly, air? I'm guessing a swap with the same geographical area would be simplest. Do it right, and any residual nuclear blast will be at the destination?

Would the dam implode into the place the water wasn't? That's a lot of water pressure that suddenly isn't there...

No. Dams have to be able to stand without any water behind them, because it takes multiple years for the reservoir to fill.
I think the question is less if dams could be emptied and more if the sudden cavitation could cause a large enough shockwave to damage the dam. I mean, just making a vacuum bubble of air can be pretty bad depending on the size - enough that something like a meter radius sphere can cause strong enough shockwaves to cause major injury to nearby people.

And though I can only assume that the water would be replaced by air in this scenario, that's still a large displacement of water that would collapse in on itself. Depending on the size, it can indeed cause large enough waves to cause cracks into the dam - potentially even destroying it if there's enough damage to compromise the dam's ability to hold back the rest of the water.

Cavitation damage is normally from the bubbles collapsing causing small supersonic shock waves. Totally different effect.

Water pressure goes up by 1atm every 10 meters or so. The question is how well does the structure hold up when that pressure suddenly goes away. Assuming the dam isn't in the blast radius, then it's almost certainly not going to survive.

Disaster Party
"Yo," Aisha said, gesturing Amy to enter the apartment. "Just you this time?"

"Nah," Amy said, setting down her bag. "My sister and uncle and cousin are around, Vicky will bring them by in a few minutes."

"Nice!" Aisha said, with feeling, as May and Derek waved from where they were watching cartoons. "Strength in numbers and all that. Will do the safety tour when they get here, already did the kids," Aisha concluded as she led Amy into the kitchen area.

Entering the kitchen, Aisha leaned in conspiratorially. "Glad your sister is coming, she good with the kids. Just make sure they don't get on the computer."

"Oh," Amy asked, intrigued. "Got something fun?"

"No, it's just, uh," Aisha shifted awkwardly, "busy."

Note: Oohhhhhh, these two haven't had a scene since, huh, I don't remember! Let's have some Hilarious Misunderstandings (tm)!

Disaster Party, Part 2
"Ohhhhh?" Amy asked, even more interested. "Something you shouldn't have? Maybe we should close it before my Uncle gets here."

"No? It's, like, downloading a whole bunch of explainers from Aleph about gay shit and stuff and what the deal is and it technically ain't pirating 'cause their copyrights don't work here until they do a thing, and...,"

Amy nodded absently while her mind raced furiously. Part of her wanted to see the stuff, she was curious but had always been reticent to look at things in Carol's house, but more importantly, Aisha was a baby gay! How did baby gay work? What was Amy supposed to do? Especially with a baby gay that was like, well not a baby baby gay because Aisha wasn't a baby, but still!

Everything Amy knew about baby gay came from the internet but seemed dubious now in real life! Faced with someone who, from what Vicky said, had like fifteen anti-Nazi weapons within easy reach! It was kind of adorifying but also meant Amy really didn't know how to handle it and she couldn't heal herself if Aisha stabbed her in the neck and Amy didn't want to out her but did want to Be Supportive and after all the improvised self-defense classes being in someone else's kitchen was a lot more intimidating!

"…since bro didn't seem interested in the college girls, even when I left out swimsuit pics, and I wanted to like, be prepared? And stuff?"

Or not. Amy rolled her eyes, as her heart rate despiked. "Only you."

Aisha paused a moment in thought. "Oh! Also downloading some movie about violently killing Nazis with violence." She glanced around nervously. "Yeah, that maybe kind of be piracy? Anyway, don't tell Bro. He gets all worried if I see blood and shit on a screen even if it's the same shit I've seen out the window at mom's."

Amy snorted. "Sounds like Carol. Those movies got nothing on an ER."

Note: Maybe I should double-check those pictures. Just to be sure. For, uh, power checking reasons.

This should not be as funny as it is.
