@Alivaril, you're telling people that twisted logic is all it takes to make absurd upgrades.

How did you not expect insane troll logic to come into play?

*blinks* Wot?

I knew it would come into play. That's most of the fun of Upgrade. The problem is that you need to actually have an insane-troll-logic train of thought if you want to do something that isn't a standard upgrade. You can't just declare "cells produce heat, I want to upgrade how much heat they generate." You have to have a reason, however twisted and strange, for why cells generating more heat would be a good thing.

Just off the top of my head:

==> Human cells maintain the body and produce heat.

==> Humans need to stay warm to survive.

==> A major part of maintaining the body is keeping it warm.

==> Human cells which produce more heat could keep a human warm more easily, and are therefore superior. Upgrade.

You don't have to have an explanation for, say, making a gun into a better version of the same gun though.

...I am officially crap at explaining things.

Christ. Pick something already. Please.

They are? There are over 35 voters and only, like, 3 of them are voting to explore further options.

SO unless everyone drops every vote 'but' authority, it looks like Upgrade will win.... which is fine :cool:/:cry:

Does anyone have a problem making a few concessions to the losing side? Just stuff like making sure to spend a few upgrades on things like upgrading our ability to do Science!?

...Or now that i think about it, we might even be able to gain limited authority abilities if we try really hard. (i'll explain below)
@Alivaril you said we can't upgrade powers but in this case that is a little crippling (Upgrading an ability such as intelligence would count as a power past a certain point) , does this extend to any of the below or are they possible.

(1) Upgrade our voice
- Specifically Upgrade how commanding our voice is
- Specifically Upgrade our voice so that it can bypass hearing protection.
(I have the logic for this in my head but really don't want to post that large of a description yet, i wait until this is over)

(2) Upgrade our ability to do stuff in way that is specifically supernatural, air movement, water control ect.
(You said the fire ball was impossible because that would be a 'power', could you instead just make it really really hard and have limits?)

(3) Upgrade 'Our' ability to do Science!
- Specifically upgrade our patten recognition, memory, learning ability and general intelligence. Do so Multiple times.
- Specifically upgrade our ability to understand 'tinkertek'
- Specifically upgrade the knowledge we have of Science!
(would that really work?)

I have 'ideas' on how we could make the thought chains required but won't add them because most people can figure them out already.

Sorry for the extra hassle Alivaril but i just can't help but think about all this :)

Not going to lie, a whole bunch of updates of us being pedantic to eke out a bunch of minor powers out of Upgrade promises to be really dull. :V

Plus it kind of exacerbates this power selection issue, because you know that there's going to be like ten rounds of voting for what we actually Upgrade before going out for the first time.

Authority, on the other hand, is great out of the box, and being a wording based power, plays really well with a text based medium.

I was thinking that most of the actual 'Upgrading' would be done out of sight. We just choose something like "Spend time with mum doing Science" (Gain x amount upgrades to Science! ability).

Plus maybe a standard write in with any really cool 'Upgrade' ideas we have, we then submit them to Alivaril. Who then chooses those that are possible and adds them to the end of the next vote with a note on how many charges it would take to successfully accomplish.

This... this gets pretty silly with a few stacking upgrades xD

=> The human body's thermoregulation system exists to regulate its temperature. A specific component of it is heat transfer.
=> It does this through moving temperatures about the body, primarily through expansion and contraction of vessels, allowing heat to be absorbed or dispersed from an area.
=> It can only do this within a certain distance of vessels, limiting the amount of heat manipulable.
=> A thermoregulation system that could manipulate heat further away from our vessels would be more efficient. Upgrade.

Throw in another about how much easier it would be to be comfortable/survive if we were able to push/pull heat against its natural tendency (force heat into a hot area), and then one about how much more survivable/efficient/whatever we could be if we didn't have to expend our heat to heat something or lose ours to cool something (or maybe an improvement somewhere on tool use as far as using a hot object to warm another object) and you can quickly arrive at thermokinesis that (ignoring whatever energy the Power/Entity spends) breaks entropy, and is therefore a superpower in effect.

Granted, this is a fun idea, but might get a bit broken without a sharp limit on upgrade rate. OTOH, with a limited upgrade rate, it comes between "well, do I make myself more survivable, or do something cool, or save that for an emergency?"

Or maybe if upgrades are powerful but have limited time or something in their strong form, and then recede to a mild permanent improvement? Something. Maybe that door reappears after we pull the energy out/it runs out of time, but is just a little bit harder to open...

Edit: And as others said, this promises the risk of being infuriating. I'm partial to Authority, because it's hilarious, and also very versatile with some thought.

We could totally fireball someone with authority.

Oh, that's trivial.

"Burn."
Although it should be noted that if we want them to actually burn, as apposed to just thinking that they are burning we would have to direct the command to the air, not the person.

Right now I'm imagining our character as basically Luna Lovegood. (When commanding inanimate things)
Man walks into a bank 'this is a robbery, put your hands in the air and nobody gets hurt, that means you, the bitch in the suit'
"Mr. Nargle, if you wouldn't mind teaching our little friend here a lesson on proper manners when speaking to a lady"
*man catches on fire*
"Thank you"

Hell, I'm thinking of if we were forced to use commands like the ones used in chargen. Just reorder the location of heat energy around.

Really it depends on what is meant by 'power used during chargen with some restrictions' since we could affect the virtual environment, but couldn't actually change powers for example.
Our sister created a world.....

Oh and Kudos for your names reference :D

[X] Select Authority.
Just to give it a chance

Could we tell our body to improve permanently?
It doesn't have to be much, just smarter, stronger ect.

[X] Upgrade
'Cause whether or not this is more powerful than Authority isn't what's important to me (Though I think kicking characters to the curb is what passes for fun. So, yeah...). We're already choosing between two top-tier powers. I just think this is more fun, plus I like the thought of becoming the love child of Dr. Doom + Iron Man (It's the closer power to SCIENCE!). Though really with insane troll logic without restraint we'd be overpowered.

Trying to intentionally repeat actions that got you a note before no longer get you a note. However, it did reveal a side perk: You are now able to perform some actions which were previously closed to you.
We haven't really looked into this at all. Can we successfully contact our sister now?

well I think it's fair to say the Upgrade Power has won at this point, though personally I wish Assimilate had won(the synergy with our mother's enchanting would have been interesting).

well at least it isn't Science!(imo most boring of the top 5ish choices)

[X] Select Authority.

Because of all the ones that might conceivably win, this one sounds the most fun.
