Wait ... Upgrade is technically in orbit around our MC's other 'real' body yes??

...so technically upgrade has an actual body?

edit: She's just more of... a small moon

*proposes covering the body in unicorns*
You don't teach a child empathy by making them literally a god. Besides that would end in probably literally Equestria. Transpony-ist Equestria.

No thank you.

Maybe once we know she's got some basic empathy down we can get her some pets, not self-aware (and make her promise not to Upgrade them to being self-aware for now) and see where it goes from there.

... so MLP is just Upgrade having fun on her celestial body

gotcha

edit: does that make her Discord?

I like that the main government cape agency not only knows about the Beyond, but are in communication with at least some of them, and take them into account when planning for things. These people really do seem competent, even with the comments section silliness.

Also Upgrade needs all the hugs. The Beyond were seriously considering memory wiping her because she cheated at something? Yikes.

Which is probably why she's become our moon. Anyone trying to get in to hurt her has to get through dad.

I pity the fool who tries.

Beyond Memory-Blurring
The Beyond were seriously considering memory wiping her because she cheated at something? Yikes.

Not quite. With the exceptions of the memories she copied over, Upgrade's archive was an library she could extract information from instead of something she truly knows. By default, every Beyond can have perfect recall, letting them pick over previous failures and figure out how to improve their approach on the next run. Details are vitally important for this since each challenge scenario is its own brand of puzzle. Beyond "blurring" just reduces it to something closer to what many humans would remember of, say, a written test. They might recall a few questions and they'll almost certainly recall the general subject matter, but they'll seldom remember the order of questions, how they answered each one, etc. Many Beyond even blur their own memories of boring periods or embarrassing incidents they'd literally prefer to forget.

That's not to say Upgrade couldn't use hugs, but her crying was due to crushing disappointment, not fear.

and the severe lack of friends ascending with her quickly drew the attention of other Tier 1 Occupants,
My Superpower Is An Alien Child That Considers The World A Game And I Am Her First Friend, coming soon to a store next you!

Jokes aside...
Translated Nickname (see file P-002-N): [Academic Fraud / Ignorant Graduate / Loophole (Domestic) Abuser / Pyramid Scheme / Unique Upgrade] Upgrade
What the heck are these nicknames.

We're giving Upgrade a new nickname ASAP. She's officially the fourth Adair sibling, and these names aren't acceptable.

Pyramid Scheme Upgrade or Unique Upgrade aren't bad nicknames. Loophole Abuser isn't a bad name either, it's just unfortunate there's a 'Domestic' in the middle. If I were to come up with new nicknames for her... No-Box Upgrade? Ultra-Creative Upgrade?

That should actually be read as just one nickname with several underlying meanings. It's made even more awkward by the fact that Beyond names end up being tinted by the opinion of whoever is doing the identification. For example, another Beyond might not have the [Academic Fraud / Ignorant Graduate] parts.

EDIT: The "Loophole (Domestic) Abuser" is complimentary by Beyond standards. "Unique Upgrade" should be taken as a compliment that also serves to insult other Upgrades.

IIRC, Upgrade is normally considered to be "babby's first DeviantArt OC" level of childish and lame for a Beyond, right? The sort of thing that everyone does once until they grow up and realize how dumb and uncool Mary Sues are. Calling Best Upgrade "Unique Upgrade" is sort of saying "yeah, it's a Mary Sue, but for once it's actually interesting! This one's actually cool, this is how you do it, you legion of pathetic noobs!"

Childish, maybe. Not so sure about lame, though. Upgrade is considered childish simply because picking a specialization is what "adult" Beyond do. Our Upgrade, though, is still a kid, and may be using some of the data she got from other Beyond in her Upgrades. Her database might have been meant to gather answers to Beyond tests, but it probably also gave her knowledge of a lot of other stuff in the process, the same way you can learn things from going over the answers to a science test, if you also know the questions.

She also seems to be trying to avoid giving us anything too "unfair" or "unfun" by Beyond standards, as her unwillingness to give us certain requested powers during our most recent build session indicates. I'm not sure if other Upgrades are doing the same, hence why she might have a better rep than other Upgrades.

.... Family game night with this family must be nuts.

Skye: Are all poker games likes this?
Eve: Nah, your new so I think mom is going easy, she hasn't eve tried to posion your drink.

Family Game Nights: Monopoly
I am working on the next update, but it's going a bit slower than it usually does (when I have time to write, anyway); there are a lot of interactions between powers and it's taking time to distill all of them into item options.

(I was tempted to cover this in interlude form, but you guys have waited long enough for an update. :p )

Poker games weren't really games so much as lessons. Heavily altered Monopoly was far more common; Mother was still clearly trying to teach you stuff, but you had more ways to cheat and thus had more fun with it.

Some of the changes to Monopoly include, but are not limited to...
  • If you were required to pay any sort of "tax" and you weren't caught siphoning some of the money to your own account, that was perfectly valid. If you got caught, you had to pay twice the difference.
  • The Banker was switched each round. You were allowed to skim money off what you'd give to other players until they noticed. If they did, they had to accurately say how much you underpaid them in order for any sort of negative consequence to occur.
  • If you drew the "go to jail" card or landed on the relevant space, you could immediately pay 100$ to stay where you were.
  • The "get out of jail free card" not only did that, but also sent someone else to jail in your place.
  • If you owned at least five hotels, you could ignore "go to jail" cards/spaces entirely.
  • Before rolling on your turn, you could pay the cost of all houses on a property in order to destroy all of them. If you rolled doubles after doing so, your most valuable property would be seized and given to the wounded party in return.
  • You didn't need to control all properties of a color to start placing houses on it, but if you didn't, they would cost 50% more.
  • For a while, verbal agreements between parties could be broken at any time. (Example: "If you forgive my rent this time, I'll forgive yours the next time you land on one of my spaces" was unenforceable unless it was written down; your family usually printed out a bunch of card-sized premade contracts in order to speed things up. If it was written down, the contracts could obviously be stolen and destroyed.) This rule was eventually revoked (with the understanding that it happened "offscreen") once you and Celes started going to the photocopier for everything.
  • General rampant cheating (beyond the previous rule changes) was encouraged; penalties for detected misbehavior were agreed upon by the other players and were inconsistently applied.
  • You couldn't "win," not even if everyone else lost. Stepping away from the game before losing was known as "retiring" and was encouraged.
As you might imagine, Monopoly took significantly longer than it would with other families. This was considered to be a perk; since it'd take multiple nights to get through each game, it was easier to steal money and generally cheat between games. Sneaking into the game room was excellent lockpicking practice, too, and even better disguise practice once Mother started placing hidden cameras inside.

The jail stuff is... enh. After the early-game rush of snapping everything up, it's good to be in Jail in Monopoly – you're more likely to land on someone else's stuff than to land anywhere you can benefit from, anyway. Jail gives you three turns of no risk. "Pay money to not get three safe turns" would speed the game up, if anything.

Also, standard Monopoly doesn't have agreements – enforced or unenforced. You're not allowed to trade promises of e.g. rent exemption, only in-game money and property.

Rent exemption: I trade you the cost of this turn's rent for nothing. The next time I have to pay you rent, you trade me the cost of rent for nothing.
