Hmmm... I suppose I should make sure my wording is clear, then.

I intended asking to be put in Vita's group to be a request that didn't particularly need to be answered, but which would likely have us going along with things much more willingly. It is intended to be prompted in response to them not stating precisely where we're to be going, which could be interpreted as an opening to make such requests. Even if they have decided and just weren't specific, it would still reaffirm that we'd like that to happen, opening doors later for us to see it occur.

So, something like
would be attached to one of the Capital Defense Corps units
"Can it be Vita's unit?'

Note: I have no idea if Vita's unit is a Capital Defense Corps division or not... but I suspect Flandre doesn't either... wait, do they want us guarding a Capitol, or guarding money?

My guess is they probably want us to be insurance against Nanoha and her Friends, or some other bloc in the air force pulling a coup, or something like Millenium invading London. Powerful mages tend to end up in the air force in the TSAB after all.

That would have been the "Any particular points to make" option. "Put me in this person's group or I'm walking out" is kind of something that should be brought up if you're going to make an aggressive push to get stalled negotiations moving, don't you think?

In the last update, Flandre walked into a conference and said "Make a decision. Now." She didn't say anything about what she wanted - and if there was something that she specifically wanted, that would have been the time to bring it up. She'd had two days to come up with things she wanted; she didn't mention any. I mean, if there's something you want that will make or break a deal, it's normally going to be something you bring up at the start of negotiations - and since Flan barged in and told them to hurry it up, 'not having an opportunity' isn't exactly a reasonable defense. Additionally, by bringing it up, questions of what else Flan might want are going to come up - and whether she'll try to break any deals if those demands aren't met, either.
I see; like I said, it really wasn't obvious to me that we were meant to include something like that in that vote- it seemed like a chance to give reasons why they should hurry up or why they should actually let us argue in our defence, not make requests for what we want. And judging by the lack of votes including conditions, I'm not the only one who thought that way. And also like I said, since we had no way of knowing what sort of environment we'd be making our proposal into, even if we had known then was our chance it would have been very difficult to come up with a decent vote for requests (what we'd say would be different if they were hostile or indifferent or looking for an opportunity to use us, different depending on terms they were discussing, etc). Basically, I would expect a vote for arguing on our own behalf to, you know, actually give us a chance to argue on our own behalf- to hear what they want and get a chance to state what we want until an agreement is reached.

Also, I still don't see why this is in bad faith. The default position when you're offering someone a deal is not to expect the first offer to simply be accepted unless you're offering a very good deal or extremely arrogant. And suppose they'd included an unreasonable term, like 'we get to install a remote knockout device in you'- would we not be allowed to object then simply because we didn't specify it as something we didn't want?

Truthfully, I think you rushed things; when nobody tried to suggest conditions and what have you, you should probably either have informed us that then was the time to do so, or stopped the update to give us a chance to come up with something.

-- [X] Time to channel some of your sister's charisma here
--- [X] "Your pitiful attempts to assert whatever delusions of authority or control you have over this situation is...quaint. Adorable even. Like a puppy yapping at someone because it thinks it's ten times larger and stronger than it actually is, when the truth is far from that simple fantasy."
---- [X] "I have been most generous with you all, excessively so if my sister or any other of her social standing were in my place. I even let you play soldier and general for awhile even, went along with the whole song and dance, just so you wouldn't feel too sorry about yourselves. But apparently, I have left a rather...misleading impression of things; and for that I'm sorry."
----- [X] "I am Flandre Scarlet, of the most noble and ancient house of Scarlet; of which we can trace our lineage back to that of Vlad Tepes, better known as Dracula. First and strongest of our kind, and of which my sister and I are direct descendants of." (Technically, you're pretty sure Remi was lying about that; but nobody could really call you out on it), "With but a wave of her hand, my sister could forever condemn your fate and destiny to ruination; and with a clench of mine I can devastate this entire world. This is again, not a threat or bragging, but a simple truth; just as you can crush an ant so casually, so too can I do so with with your world. I see how all things break, I see how I can break them, and I know how...fragile everything really is."
------ [X] "So, I propose that you...reconsider just what you are planning and proposing; accept the simple truth that lies before you, and come to the only real conclusion that can be had here: I will be released, with no bindings or watchers or anything of the like; and you will accommodate my every whim and need, lest I become most...displeased with my stay upon your world. I will take what I want, do what I wish to, enjoy myself as I see fit; and when I am finally bored I shall depart from here and leave you be. Otherwise, if I am impeded or interfered with in any fashion, I assure you; you will all pay for it. And your suffering will be legendary..."

You stretch and stand up, tapping your lips. That you're being allowed to work with your immediate commander is a fairly big concession, if you remember correctly - it's more like being a mercenary rather than actually being part of their unit. You stare at a point on the wall for a moment, then flick your eyes over to Verossa. "I ... suppose it's agreeable." He sighs in relief.

"Alright, then. General Gaiz has already selected the unit you will be joining - no, it will not be Vita's," he says, dashing your hopes and making you pout. "That particular unit is already quite powerful; if we added someone as powerful as you to it, there would be quite reasonable concerns regarding the purpose of the unit. Once the unit has had a chance to prepare itself for your arrival, you will be taken there. Do you have any other questions or concerns?" You nod, eyes sharp.

"Just one. This is, of course, a temporary arrangement. Might I propose that in six months' time, the individuals who drafted this agreement meet again - with me - to determine whether the situation is acceptable to all parties?"

"That is quite a good idea, Miss Scarlet. I don't think anyone will have a problem with it." You nod. Of course they won't; besides, now you have six months to make sure that non one will have any problems with it ....

It wasn't too long before you were taken to the unit. Verossa, who seems to have been named ambassador to you, drove you in his carriage. It was really quite interesting ... although his amusement at your apparent inability to drive one was aggravating. All you would need is your clones .... Now, however, you're sitting in a chair in the office of the man who is supposed to be your commander.

"Hrmph. So, you're Flandre Scarlet, are you?" He moves a few sheets of paper around on his desk, then sighs and leans forward. "Well, let's get a few things straight. I'm Major Alfio Marino, and I'm supposed to be your superior; what that means is that if I give you an order, you're supposed to follow it. Normally it would also mean that I'm at least as good a mage as you, but I've got twenty combat mages in my unit, and counting myself only three are B rank or above, while you've been tentatively assigned an AA rank ... which, if accurate, would mean that you could go through this entire unit by yourself without any problems. I have been appraised of your ... particular needs ... and we'll do our best to accommodate you; some things that you ask for we may be able to get, but other things you'll have to do without. This isn't the Navy or the Air Force."

He's an older man, dark hair turning grey, but still fit and physically imposing. You didn't actually see anyone else when you came in; Verossa took you into the office and left you with him, but since the building is much larger you suppose the others are being kept back until you've had your 'interview.'

"As for what you will be doing ... well, to be honest, you probably won't be doing much that you consider interesting. Some testing, to see what you're capable of, some training, and probably a whole lot of waiting. We're part of the Capital Defense Corps, which means we're responsible for keeping Mid-Childa safe ... but you won't see many people trying to attack it. The only major thing going on right now is that Drone situation ... and that is, unofficially, 'not our problem.'" He scoffs. "Unless we get called in, or it affects us directly, we aren't supposed to do anything about it. What we mainly do is help with criminal investigations and takedowns, but since we're primarily a combat unit, we don't get called in unless they're fielding equipment the investigation team can't deal with. And, of course, we aren't supposed to kill anyone."

"Why not?" He blinks at your interruption. "Is there a particular reason to not kill someone who's breaking your laws?" He stares at you for a moment, then snorts and shakes his head slowly.

"The current administration ... believes that it's better to imprison and rehabilitate criminals. Deaths are not always avoidable, but the way things work now, you're supposed to capture criminals, and deaths are usually investigated to see if they could have been avoided. They're too soft ... I don't agree with the General on everything, but I do on this. It's one thing for the Navy to take that stance, all the best mages try to join that service. Here? We don't have their luxuries, but we're supposed to play by their rules ...." He sighs, then rolls his shoulders and stands up. "Well, I suppose I should make sure you know who's on your side if we ever do have to fight someone." Interestingly, his left leg below the knee isn't natural - it's metal, and he makes no attempt to hide it, not even with a shoe.

Almost two weeks pass. You do meet the other members of the unit, but you barely bother to remember them; you remember Lieutenant Tarbin only because she's the only other person who appreciates a good cup of tea, so you forced her to join your daily drinks. It only took her three days to stop breaking the cups, too. Marino was right that things would be quite different - even if you don't know what everything does, you can tell that a lot of equipment is older or second-hand, and nothing is the quality you've come to expect. Except the effort they put into you, that is.

Their 'medical tests' consisted of drawing blood; apart from them not really knowing what they got, you aren't too sure what they learned from it. They've been working on a Device for you, too. In fact, you've destroyed two already, so the engineer told you that they'd start simple - a heavily-reinforced Storage frame, optimized for high-capacity mana flow, and with only the Barrier Jacket to start with. If he can get that to work, he said, he can start working on integrating new functions. You don't really care about the other parts, though - a Barrier Jacket means you'll stop ruining clothes. You've already ruined two of the brown uniforms they gave you, and those were supposed to have been reinforced!

You ruined the first set on your second mission. The first mission was really just an observation, so you knew what you were 'supposed' to do ... but all you really learned was that Marino was right, you would go through his unit like they didn't exist. So, of course, when you were let loose on your second mission, you did what came naturally - you went through the walls, and 'accidentally' killed most of them. Because the major asked you to, though, you did let the ones who managed to surrender live.

The second set you lost when you finally got to play with Vita. You won, of course, and it was such a very short time you got to play with her, but it was still fun, and you think she might even like you a bit more! Not that you've been sitting on your laurels; you managed to get Tarbin to look up information on Vita, and her unit. Nanoha Takamachi, the 'Ace of Aces,' and so-called "White Devil;" that person is someone Vita respects and cares about. More worrisome to you, though is her commander. Hayate Yagami, Vita's Master ... and also a member of her family. That is something that made you think. When it was just a matter of finding Vita's Master and convincing or killing him, that was one thing; Vita would be upset, but what was done was done, and there would be no barriers to your being her new Master. But if her Master is family ... you know how you would react if someone tried to kill Remilia and make you listen to them. You've even done it before! And Vita would probably react the same way ....

Right now, though, you're watching the same screen everyone else in the unit is watching. Apparently, something major is happening outside, but most units are in standby ... Vita's unit is dealing with it. And to tell the truth, you're nearly as amazed as everyone else is at how fast they managed to sweep the sky clear of the Drones. You'll have to make sure that you don't let them engage you in a group .... You watch, along with everyone else, as the helicopter begins flying away - and is attacked, from seemingly nowhere. But unlike everyone else, you aren't focused on the helicopter, or on its miraculous survival thanks to Nanoha's intervention. You are focused on the beam. You know that beam; it's the same one that attacked Vita when you first arrived. And you even know how to get there from here!

What do you do?

[ ] Stay and wait. You haven't been ordered to intervene, so you have to watch. How boring.

[ ] Kill whoever that is. Maybe Vita isn't your servant, and maybe she won't be, but you're still mad. Who cares if you're disobeying orders? You have a score to settle.

[ ] Sneak out and follow them. Maybe they'll be able to get away from Nanoha, but you're much sneakier! And since you'll be making them surrender, it'll even be alright with everyone else!

DM Note: No, I'm not off-screening Flan vs Vita; I'll be putting it in an omake. Mainly because I don't want to do it in second-person. I'm sorry if this is ... disjointed, I think ... I'm probably not thinking clearly enough to be writing something that's supposed to be coherent, but if I didn't get started when I did I probably wouldn't have a chance until sometime tomorrow.

[X] Sneak out and follow them. Maybe they'll be able to get away from Nanoha, but you're much sneakier! And since you'll be making them surrender, it'll even be alright with everyone else!

Stealth Mission time!

Seems like Flandre's superiors are at least smart enough to give her just enough action so she won't go mad with boredom.

Still not an ideal situation for Flandre, but may become a learning opportunity for Flandre; learning how to earn what you do want, which sometimes means doing things you don't want in the short term.
MGLN is pretty uniquely suited to both have the power to enforce this (Flandre cannot just "take" or do whatever she wants in this setting) and the patience and knowledge of how to handle those like Flandre while she learns this (and other "life lessons")

[ X] Actually ask Nanoha for permission to take the attacker down. Sneak out and follow them. Maybe they'll be able to get away from Nanoha, but you're much sneakier! And since you'll be making them surrender, it'll even be alright with everyone else!

Why are we still here.

I agree with your sentiment though. Flandre likely isn't anymore pleased at being put in the "back foot" of the military than we (the questers) are.

They are not giving enough things to "play" with (though thankfully, greater than nothing), which is why I don't want to "sit here" like a "good little girl" this vote and ignore the shiny plot hook. We should go out and join the action, somehow, orders or not.

Question. What kind of range can we get on our clones, and could we send one (or more, perhaps) to sneak out and help?

Smart. Especially since I just realized we're probably wearing a tracker.

If Flandre has the range for this:

[X] You may not be able to sneak out because of the tracker, but you may be able to get a clone out.

Otherwise:

It's doable, but not too good an idea. In order to get there in time to do anything - whether spying or fighting - Flan (or a clone) is going to have to be obvious as all hell, and burning that kind of energy on keeping a clone active over that range in daylight is going to sap energy very quickly. You'd basically be blowing a trump card - establishing that your clones can be active a very long way from you - for very little benefit. If you want to actually get something done instead of simply demonstrating that you could do something, Flan is going to have to go in person.

Tell you what. I'm ganna ZZZ on this quest for a while:
until Flan stops being a doormat and stops being a soldier. Flan is a lady of chaos! A motherF!@#! powerful vempire over 100 years old! and here she is being a grunt! Ever since we got into Nanoha verse we became a wimpy little girl not this:

I'll pay attention back to this quest when Flan stops being a grunt.

Despite some of my disagreements with GM style (some of which I still hold), I have faith in Entropy Judge with how he will handle this.

One, notice how this "grunt time" was done in time skip; I think he knows that we would find playing as a "grunt Flandre" boring, and thus not forcing us to really do so in detail.
Two, it seems to be implied that Flandre is just as bored with this situation as we are. The only thing keeping her from going completely mad with boredom is that she is being given a few "destroy stuff" tasks occasionally. That, and Flandre has got it into her head that she should try to prove a point; that she can "behave"...somewhat.
Three, we are now being given an opportunity to "screw orders" and do what we do best; rush in and blow stuff up*. :D
Best of all, it's against targets that our "temporary superiors" won't have a problem being "blown up" (even if they may have a problem with the "screw orders" part).

So, yea, I'm not giving up on this quest, despite the sort of lull in "action" that is going on right now.

*or rip stuff up, whatever floats your boat

I'm gonna be honest. The main reason I'm voting to go along with the TSAB is because I find your complaints annoying

I agree with you on this, but I am going kept voting what I believe this Flandre SHOULD do in a situation like this.So Yeah it ain't a walk in the park for me either.

Insanity is good for funtimes, bad for getting anything of worth done. This quest has been rather fruitless so far, it's time to actually get close to what we want from these worlds.

I just find it hard to accept that flan would accept it and be TSAB's little soldier. She should just be like "screw" this and attack everything insight. I hate how Flandre is being a "good little girl to some strangers. Tell me why haven't she blown officers yet and obey orders to someone who is NOT her sister? It is just too OOC of Flan
