[X] Call Emiya and let him know what's happened so far.
You nuzzle Ilya's cheek again before clambering away from her and drifting across the room toward the door. You change back to your normal form, wishing you could use mist-form effectively, or at least that the door were a little higher off the ground. After one more look at the sleeping girl you quietly open the door and slip out into the hall, closing the door even more carefully behind you. Hmm … Tohsaka or her Servant? Well, he probably doesn't know Emiya's number, so you're going to have to bother Tohsaka anyway. Might as well do it yourself and have some fun. Once you find her, anyway. She isn't in the room where they were working on the sword-thing, nor in any of the studies, and you can't get into the lab, but she's probably not there, either. And Sella is in Leysritt's room, sleeping in a large chair; you can hardly bother her about Tohsaka's location! You're about to just go and find Archer – he's probably on the roof, keeping watch – when you see her stumbling down a hall, blearily looking left and right. She must not be a morning person.
"Hi!" you chirp, and she swivels unsteadily, taking a moment to focus on you.
"Where's a kitchen?" You tilt your head, slightly confused at the slurred question – but then, she did say she was going to make breakfast … not that you're sure you trust her to cook in her condition.
"First floor dining room, find the narrow exit and follow it. What's Emiya's phone number?" She mumbles a number before blinking stupidly at you.
"Why do you want to know?"
"So I can call him, of course. Don't set the kitchen on fire." You float past her and make your way to the phone room and dial the number Tohsaka gave you. The phone rings … and rings. Perhaps Tohsaka gave you a wrong number … why would she know his number so well that she can recite it even when half-awake, anyway? Someone finally answers the phone.
"Hello?" You relax slightly when you recognize Emiya's voice.
"Hello, Emiya. Good morning!"
"Oh. Flandre Scarlet." He sounds more alert, but also a little wary. Given your history, it's not too surprising.
"Aw, is that any way to treat an ally? Here I am, calling to make sure you're fully informed about what's going on, and it sounds like you don't want to talk to me!" You sniff hurtfully into the phone.
"Ah, no, I mean …. I'm sorry it sounded that way." He doesn't sound too apologetic, though.
"Well, alright. So, what have you heard about recent events?" You wait for a moment as he collects his thoughts.
"You're the one who attacked the city after Saber was killed, right?" No one's talked to him, not even Rider? Shame, shame – you're the one with the least connection to him, and the only one who cares.
"Hmmm~? Oh, you mean after Rider's Master tried to kill herself. Yes, I was a little grumpy."
"You killed four hundred people!" You sigh.
"Well, it's not like I was trying to rack up a huge body count. I could have killed a lot more than that if I'd wanted to kill people instead of just destroy things. But that aside, I see that no one's told you what happened. First, Saber didn't die that night; Rider's Master absorbed her into her shadow-thing and took her over. Oh, right – she did fall off the building, but she didn't die, and she used the shadow-thing to eat people. Saber tried to kill her with a blast of energy from her sword –" you break off to chuckle about Saber and her identity for a moment. Emiya makes an irritated sound. "Sorry. Just thinking about something. Anyway, Saber tried to kill her, but she missed, or Rider's Master deflected part of it, and then she absorbed Saber with the shadow-thing. But Saber wasn't dead then."
"… But Saber is dead now." You smile, glad that he figured that out.
"Yep! I killed her. But that comes later. After we stopped watching Rider's Master, we tried expanding our options – I called Arcueid again and Tohsaka tried getting the person she had been contacted by to see about getting some kind of help, but neither of them did anything to help, which probably had a material effect on my decision to go rampage through a city for a bit. But before that – and after Rider had showed up to tell us what happened to you, and to refuse to help us because she didn't want us finding out about some weakness of hers we could exploit to kill her – we went to see if the old Matou worm-mage, her grandfather could help." You twist, cracking your spine audibly, and hop up onto the table. Emiya doesn't interrupt; he knows that you attacked the Matou house, and he probably knows that you 'killed' the old mage, but he doesn't question your story. "Anyway, it seems that after the Grail War ten years ago, he got his hands on pieces of the Grail that were left behind and implanted them in her somehow. Hmm … not sure if we know what originally caused the corruption, but I'm not sure it matters. The point is that the corrupted Grail fragments gave her a link to the Corrupted Grail itself, and that's why she has the shadow-thing." Emiya is quiet for a long time. "… Are you still there?"
"Yeah, yeah, I …. Sorry, I was just thinking about … there was a disaster here ten years ago. That was caused by the Grail, right?" Didn't he hear about that already, when you asked Saber about what happened?
"Hmm … kind of. The final Master of the last War realized that there was something wrong with the Grail, that it was corrupted, and he tried using his Servant to destroy it. It appears to have ended … poorly. Have an idea?"
"… Maybe. I'll need to think about it some more." You raise an eyebrow at his hesitation and reticence. Well, it's not like he can do much by himself, especially with Rider keeping him company.
"Hm. Well, anyway, after we got back here I went and blew off some steam, and the next day the local groups – not the Mage's Assocation – came by to try and meet with me and throw Ilya out of Japan. … Ilya was hurt, and still is, and so was Leysritt, but the "negotiation team" is all dead. I returned the body of the 'leader' to Arcueid, and on our way back we were attacked by Saber. She's dead now, has been for … less than six hours, I think. But if Rider's Master was paying any sort of attention to that fight, she probably has an idea of her chances of victory. And that's all the major news that I can think of." You wait while he digests the information.
"I see. Thank you, but … why are you telling me all this?" You sigh.
"As far as I'm concerned, we're still allies. Sure, you can't help very much with fighting, because you're barely qualified as a magician and you don't have Saber any more, but that doesn't really matter. If the situation were a little different, if you were here instead of kept under Rider's supervision, you could be a big help. As it stands, I'm not sure how well any sort of attack from our side is going to go – I'm perfectly capable of doing it, but my options are fairly limited and I can't be at the temple and here at the same time. And …." You trail off and shake your head; you're pretty sure Ilya wouldn't mind if Emiya were here to help take care of her, but it's not your place to say even if it is true. "And even after the Grail is dealt with, things are going to be a bit interesting, and warning you about that doesn't harm anything that I can think of."
"You're planning on killing Sakura, though, aren't you?" He sounds resigned and you sigh again.
"I know that Ilya and Tohsaka were trying to figure out if there was some way of keeping her alive, of not simply destroying the whole thing, but I don't know if that's possible. At the very least, that girl would need to want to help, and we'd probably have to deal with the worm-mage for good, too." Really not your area of expertise, and you don't want to get his hopes up too high.
"Okay. I … thank you. For telling me all this."
"Yup! If I think of anything else you should know, I'll call again if I can, okay? Bye!" He murmurs a farewell and you hang up. It shouldn't be all that difficult to get him out of there if it comes to it, even if Archer and Berserker can't be used. If you're clever, you could probably deal with Rider without Arcueid noticing … but that's the sticking point. You would have to deal with Rider, and with Saber gone there are only three Servants left. Defeating Rider – the Servant of the Master connected to the Grail – might not be the wisest choice if you don't want her to lose control. Of course, killing her right now ought to be simple – she's lost her defender, her attacks aren't as effective against you, and you know where she has to defend. Unless she realizes that as well, and doesn't defend the Grail, which is the big problem, especially with Ilya hurt. Not enough people to make sure things go smoothly if there are problems.
Still, that's a strategy question that you don't really get to decide for yourself, so it'll have to wait.
