Its slightly more managable than Nanohaverse(where getting taken down eventually was inevitable once we started the fire)...but remember Vita is here as well, and we probably don't want to piss her off much more.

[X] Laugh at the deception. You'll leave her alone … for now.
[X] Carriage Company

You start to giggle, then you have to clap your hands over your mouth to keep yourself from howling with laughter. A magnificent performance! After several minutes, you manage to calm down, only to see all three of the others watching you warily. You blink rapidly and tilt your head to the side.

"Uh, are you okay?" You nod at Agito and straighten yourself.

"Of course! I just thought it was great fun, a marvelous deception on Babette's part." Lutecia frowns and looks back and forth at you and Agito, and you hop over the bed to give her a hug. "She made it seem like she was going to have Lucia kill you if we didn't answer her questions about where we came from. A perfect bluff, worthy of her patron's sphere. Of course, next time I'll make sure she doesn't get that sort of chance."

"If there is a next time," Agito mutters. You chuckle as you let Lutecia stand on her own.

"Of course there'll be a next time, Agito. She wouldn't have gone through the trouble of making an enemy the way she did if she wasn't planning on trying to use that information, so we'll meet her again sooner or later." You spin away and lean down to stare nose-to-nose at Lucia. "And you …." She shies away and you stand up, tossing your arms aside. "I don't know. She's probably not guilty of anything, so you two can decide what to do with her. I'm going to take a nap, okay?" You hop up into the window and lean against the frame. You take a deep breath, let it out slowly. You let Kirika go - at least Babette is a vampire.

"Flan?" You crack an eye open and smile down at Lutecia.

"I'm fine, Lutecia. I just need to rest a bit, okay?" She looks up at you, apparently unhappy about something, but she just nods and turns away. You close your eye and start to think about what you know. Babette, vampire, servant of Mephala. Gave you a potion that is supposed to protect you against the sun. Unless she was lying, and it does something else. Of course, whether it would work for you is something else to consider …. Perhaps that's what she was doing in that building with the dead woman and the old woman, making the potion? Do you remember the old woman's face well enough to recognizer her … yes, you do. Possible threat, Babette said something about Mephala and Sithis, and she got scared. But this isn't Babette's territory, so …. You take another breath and drop it. You'll let it stew in the back of your head for a bit, maybe you'll get something out of it. For now, sleep ….

You grin at Lutecia as she shifts uncomfortably in the dress. It's a nice, warm red, even faded as it is, and she looks very nice. Agito is still wearing her ruined dress, of course, and your sleeve is still damaged, but the cloaks hide those defects quite well - for now, anyway. You'll need to get replacements at some point.

"Thank you, Flandre." You giggle.

"Of course, Lutecia. Now, let's go down and get something to eat, okay?" The magician nods somberly, and you sigh and put your hands on her cheeks. "Smile! Or I'll have to pull your cheeks until your mouth gets stuck." She blushes and ducks her head as much as she's able to, then gives you a small, embarrassed, smile. You hug her and grin. "Okay, now let's go make sure Agito hasn't gotten lost or fallen into someone's pocket!"

The two of you make your way down to the common room. Agito is sitting at a small table in a corner, but Lucia is nowhere to be found. The innkeeper smiles at you and gestures for you to join the fairy. You bow politely and wave to her, and as you're crossing the room, you catch a glimpse of Lucia sitting in a back room with a dark-skinned woman. You take one of the bowls of stew and start eating. Agito looks like she wants to laugh but just shakes her head.

"Lucia had some sort of fit while we were talking to Hulda. Collapsed, shaking … she woke up after a couple minutes, and that Saadia woman said she'd take care of her until she could get up to the temple. I guess she'll be working here until then." Lutecia relaxes and smiles. You wonder whether it's worth trying to figure out if it's related to Babette's control over her or her injuries from last night … but bringing it up would upset Lutecia, so you keep your thoughts to yourself. "… So, to the Carriage people after breakfast, and then what?" Lutecia hesitates as you shrug.

"Depends on what they say and how they operate. They may have rooms for people who are going to be in a caravan, or it might be more expensive than I thought, or something else. Maybe we'll spend the rest of the day haggling over details." Agito claps a hand over her eyes, and you look up as Lutecia looks down at her food. She recovers before you can say anything else though, smiling at you as she raises her head.

"It's okay, Flandre. I'm fine." You smile back at her, but all three of you stay quiet after that. You finish eating and make sure your things are together, then make your way out. You stumble a little as you step outside, the glare of the bright sun and the supernatural irritation both affecting you, and you wish you could take our your parasol as you catch yourself. Maybe you can find someone to make you one from local materials?

"You could just put your hood up," Agito says, but you shake your head.

"It's not cold enough, and it'd make hearing some things harder." It is cool, but no one is really dressed for cold weather. You blink to make sure you aren't seeing things, then slide to the side as the soldiers escort the Dawn's Guard agent down the street.

"Are they going to do something to him? He didn't do anything wrong!" Agito fumes, and some people in the crowd mutter as well, though you don't think they're the same kind of indignance.

"He just attacked someone who wasn't doing anything wrong and got a little girl hurt. Nothing wrong, nope." Agito glowers at you as you raise an eyebrow, then blushes and looks away. "Right. Maybe he didn't do anything wrong, maybe he did, but he didn't seem to be acting 'officially,' so they're probably kicking him out of the city. At least, I didn't see anything that seemed like an execution ground on the way up." You follow in the escort's wake, and it seems to you that the guards seem to be on the agent's side - at least, they're treating him respectfully and are having a low conversation. And when the man is finally released, just outside the city gates, his weapons are returned to him - the axe, a small dagger, and a crossbow. And he's a vampire hunter?

You can see the carriage caravan that's heading north to Dawnstar, a collection of open-seating and cargo carts. There must not be much demand to go there, though, because there are only a few people waiting; the bulk of the caravan seems to be cargo transportation, probably to be put on a ship. You make your way to the Carriage office, eager to be out of the sun. Agito and Lutecia nearly run into you when you freeze just inside the door, and you carefully step to the side to let them in as the riot-quelling warrior watches you. You nod your head to him, then start looking around for a map. There are usually maps on the walls of this sort of place.

"Friend of yours?" You snort at Agito as Lutecia stays on the other side of you from the warrior.

"He's the guy who broke up the riot yesterday. Not someone I'd like to upset. Also a werewolf, and he knows I'm not human." Agito stares at you, then very obviously looks at the man, then realizes her mistake. You sigh; it looks like you won't be able to get a look at things without approaching the counter. "No help for it, I guess. Come on, Agito." You walk up to the counter, and the warrior steps back, giving you some room to clamber onto the stool but not offering any assistance. There is a map on the counter, an engraved plate; there are solid lines linking Whiterun to the other major cities - except the College city, for some reason, that one's been filled in - and dotted lines connecting it to some other cities. You look up at the officer, a pale man with dark hair who seems terribly amused by something. "We want to go to the College, okay?" His amusement turns to confusion, and he glances at the warrior and babbles something. You smile. "Right, you can't understand me. I knew you wouldn't, but it doesn't hurt to make sure. Agito?" You lock eyes with the officer and tap the side of your head. "We want to get to the College of Magic. You can help, right?" He goes even paler and stumbles back, tripping over his own feet and babbling. The warrior shifts his stance and puts a hand to his sword, but doesn't draw it. You sit up, hands perfectly visible. "We were planning on going through Windhome first, then north to the College. How much would that be for the three of us, and how long until we can leave? How long will it take, for that matter?" The man babbles incoherently, and you tap the side of your head again. After a little bit, he gets the idea.

"Oh - Divines - Talos - save - guard - follow -" He continues his incoherent speech even in your head, and you roll your eyes and smile at the warrior. You pretend to fiddle with something in your cloak - making a note to acquire a decent-sized pouch our satchel at some point - and place a handful of coins on the counter. The lure of currency grabs the company officer's attention, and he wrestles with himself for a minute. "Want service?" You smile and nod, trying not to roll your eyes as he speaks out loud as well.

"Yes, we want to go to the College." He frowns as he stands, leaning against the counter for support. The warrior snorts quietly, but the officer doesn't seem to notice as he taps the map.

"Not do, route closed. Can Windhome first, north Winter Grasp." You nod again.

"Yes, that's what we had planned. How much will it cost for the three of us, when do we leave, and how long will it take?" The officer looks at the three of you, then jumps as the warrior clears his throat, then coughs some more. The officer swallows.

"Thirty pieces, each. Whole trip." You nod and tap your lips, studying the map, but you don't miss the officer's eyes flick to the warrior. You snap your fingers and smile.

"Ah! Food, lodgings, and the like - are they part of the cost, or do we have to take care of that ourselves? And when do we pay?" The officer seems to deflate a little, and the warrior says something. The officer replies, and the warrior chuckles before speaking again.

"Pay now. Have hostels, not require stay. Food, guard, sleep." You nod, then take out some of the older coins and place them next to the newer coins.

"Are these worth the same? Here, at least?" The officer calls back into a room behind him after studying one of the coins, and another officer brings a scale out after a moment. He doesn't measure the coins against each other, though - a weight is placed on one side and the old coins are balanced against that. After fiddling with an adjustment of some kind, two of the old coins balance the weight, and the officer takes out several sheets of paper and looks at them before replying.

"Three one. Guild." You pull three of the old coins to one side and place a single new coin next to them, and the officer nods. You don't have enough of the old coins to cover the cost for even one of you, but you have enough of the new coins to take care of all of you. You won't have much left over, but that's fixable …. Agito claps her hands to her face as you begin sorting the coins - making sure to take back the old coins as you do so - while the officers' eyes widen and the werewolf's eyes narrow. The first officer starts to reach for the money and you rap his hand. He jerks back, startled, and you hold up three fingers.

"First, we'll need tokens for that hostel of yours, and directions. Second, when do we leave? Third, how long is the whole trip supposed to take?" The officer stares at you for a moment, until the warrior clears his throat again. He takes out three small wooden swatches with a horse design painted on them - not the same as the one for the inn you'd stayed at, or the city's emblem, though - and places them on his side of the counter.

"Carriage comes tonight, leaves tomorrow-tomorrow. Journey … five, six day?" He shrugs as you scowl. If all goes well, that's more than a week … you glance at Lutecia, but she smiles and nods her head. Well, that's a relief, at least. You nod at the officer, and he slides the tokens across the counter as he and his partner begin moving the coins. You hop off the stool and hand the tokens to Agito and Lutecia, only to be called back by the officer. He slides another three tokens across the counter - small wooden wheels, almost, with a design of a bear on one side and a crown on the other. You frown and look up at him, and he smiles. "Trip tokens." He disappears back behind the counter, and you nearly smack yourself. Agito laughs outright, and you scowl good-naturedly at her. Someone steps inside and says something, and the warrior replies and follows him out.

"So, it's done? Set in stone and ready to go?" You nod at Agito and Lutecia, smiling.

"Yes. Everything is ready, we just get on the carriage when it's time to leave." You lead them out into the glaring sun, and you see the werewolf on one of the carriages heading north. He's the only one wearing that armor, but there are a fairly large number of guards. Well, bandit troubles multiply in wartime … and you'll be on your caravan, so it'll be fine! You make your way back into the city and find the hostel. It's just inside the gate, barely a stone's throw for a fit human, and it's certainly not terribly comfortable … but for a couple days, it'll do.

DM Note: There will not be an update on Friday. The next update will be on Sunday.

Things we could do:
- Go on an old fashioned burglary spree; I hear it's something of a tradition in this land to steal everything that's not nailed down. Either keep it reasonable or go absolutely nuts and hope they don't lock the city down in response or that they don't notice until we're gone.
- Try earn money by street performing.
- Get someone to make us a parasol.
- Just get one of our own damn parasols out and get a shoulder strap for it so we can carry it around.
- Check out some of the shops.
- Throw a stick around near the upside down boat place.
- Find someone to eat.
- Poke around anywhere that looks interesting to see what there is to see.
- Examine the aftermath of our impromptu one-girl shot put tournament.
- Play tag with some children. Try not to break them.
- Murder fucking everyone.
- Try chat with Mephala. What could possibly go wrong?
- Chat with Headless and Giltless. That Mephala was such a bitch, am I right?
- Try track down Babette.

I'd say that finding someone to eat before going out into the possibly assassin infested wilderness would be a good idea, but recent events have probably put all the townsfolk on guard. Best to blow this joint before something happens to mess up our ride.

Bah, humbug! You know that thing is going to be destroyed by some random happenstance the first time Flan uses it. What we need to do is find a master craftsman to build one out of dragon bone and Daedra skin, then have it enchanted by the dark gods themselves using a thousand virgin sacrifices.

This thing needs to be enough to earn whoever wields it an automatic place on terror watch lists. It needs to be classifiable as a siege weapon. It needs to send feelings of inexplicable dread up the spines of anyone so unfortunate as to see it be opened. Then, maybe, it'll be able to survive long enough for a second use.

A Christmas Story
Merry Christmas, everyone!
"And what do you want for Christmas?" Reimu sighed to herself as the last child of the Human Village climbed onto her lap and leaned against her. She'd been doing this all day, starting with Akyuu and then working her way down the totem pole, and she was finally almost done. She wanted nothing more than to take a nap and forget today had happened.

"Um … I want a pony!" She stared at the girl in her lap and raised an eyebrow.

"A … pony? Really?" The girl nodded.

"Yes! … I think. That's what I'm supposed to say, right? I mean …." She looked down and sniffed. "I really want to talk to my dad again, but he's dead, and there's nothing you can do about that. So I guess a pony would be fine." She sniffed again, and Reimu hugged her gently.

"I'll see what I can do," she said, and when the child got down she handed her mother a small sack of treats. The two villagers walked out of the shrine, and Reimu managed to wait until they were gone before she sighed and slumped in her chair. She saw the headache-inducing tear in reality that heralded Yukari's arrival and scowled in preparation. "I am not doing this next year," she said as the youkai stepped through.

"I agree. You're not a very good fit for Santa, but with the short notice we had, you were the best option. Certainly, there's not enough of you to properly snuggle with." She smiled infuriatingly as she picked up the scroll that had recorded each child's wish. "I'll just get this to the one who'll be handling deliveries while you listen to your last visitor." Reimu glared suspiciously.

"I'm done. No more kids in the village. Who am I …." One more figure stepped into the shrine, and Reimu stared in disbelief. Sanae Kochiya. "You … what …?" Yukari laughed.

"Well, it was her idea …." Reimu's head whipped around and she stared at the youkai. "Have fun~" The rival shrine maiden hopped into Reimu's lap and squeezed her in a tight hug as Yukari slipped away to wherever she went when she wasn't being a nuisance.

"Santa! I've been a good girl this year, so I hope you get me some of the things on my list." She held out a small scroll … and after a flourish, it unrolled all the way across the room and out the door. "So, the first thing I want is a house with a Mercedes, swimming pool, and room for a pony …." She made a small mark on the scroll, next to a barely-readable scribble. Reimu somehow managed to keep from throwing her out of the house.

"But I want to be Santa! Everyone likes Santa, right? Please, can I be Santa? I've been good!" Flandre pouted at her sister as they got the costumes ready. Remilia smiled and shook her head.

"Flan, you know Nicholas is the one who gives gifts and is nice and jolly, and Krampus is the one who punishes bad little kids and gets to terrify everyone, right?" She picked up the tortuous mask and showed it to her sister.

"Yeah! But Santa doesn't have to pretend he's some weak little youkai like that. And if I get bored, we can switch!" She tossed her head and crossed her arms, and Remilia chuckled.

"Maybe we should go as Nick and Ruprecht instead?" Frantically, her sister shook her head and waved her arms.

"No! No, no! It has to be Santa and Krampus!" She sternly wagged a finger at her older sister. "You promised we could go as Santa and Krampus, Remilia!"

"So I did, so I did …." Remilia sighed and smiled. "So I did, so I did. Alright, I'll be Krampus and you can be Nicholas. Sakuya, some help?" The maid stepped forward with a smile of her own and began helping Flandre with her Nicholas costume as Remilia considered their plans for the night. Between Sakuya and Kaguya, they'd certainly have enough time to get everything done, everything on the list was accounted for, the other team was already getting to work. She sighed again; all Reimu had asked for was some peace and quiet, but she was the sort who thrived on ending chaos. She'd have to make sure she didn't have anything too disruptive to deal with for a couple months ….

The girl woke up at the thump, but she didn't fully come awake until she heard someone talking. She didn't understand what was being said, but it sounded like someone was being scolded. She slid her door open a tiny fraction, just enough to look out, and her mouth dropped. A vicious-looking and ugly youkai was being scolded by someone, a pretty girl with golden hair! She gasped, and the girl and youkai both froze, then turned to look at her. She crept out, a little guilty but also aware that the strangers were in her house, and she looked back and forth at them. The blonde girl seemed guilty and nervous as well, and she turned to say something to the youkai before facing the girl again.

"Um, you're … Ririka, right? Then … this is for you." She held out a small statuette of a horse, and Ririka's heart sank as she accepted it. It was amazingly beautiful, carved from a single piece of white jade, but it wasn't what she'd hoped for. Still, she smiled at the girl gratefully.

"Thank you," she said, but the girl frowned unhappily and looked back at the youkai. There was another exchange, and the ferocious youkai stepped closer. Ririka held the horse close to her chest as she tried to back away from the vicious talons that seemed about to cut through her, and as the youkai began to chant she ducked her head and tried to keep from crying.

"Ririka?" She looked up, and her eyes widened as she saw her father. She dropped the statuette and rushed forward to hug him, unmindful of the cold. "There, there. It's alright …." She didn't hear her mother step into the room, or notice the two visitors slip out.

"… Remilia, you stubbed your toe on purpose, didn't you?"

"Of course not, Flan. What would make you think that?"

"And what would have happened if you hadn't?"

"Heh. They'd have just gotten a luck-bringing statue, I suppose."

"… Well, I suppose the one who knows all about how things work out wouldn't have bothered being careful if she knew it wouldn't have any bad consequences, so I guess you didn't do it intentionally … but you could have tried harder to not stub your toe."

"Flan, it rather sounds like you don't believe me. …. Anyway, let's go see what Santa left you, hm? Uwah! Hey! Flan, I … oh, fine. We'll just sit here for a while, then, okay?"

Sanae blinked as she woke up. This …. "This isn't my room. Where am I?" She looked around frantically - she, Kanako, and Suwako were all there, in a room that resembled nothing so much as a modern hotel room, and …. She got up to see who was knocking at the door, and a look through the peephole showed her a white-haired woman with blue eyes. Kanako yawned and rolled off the bed.

"Excuse me! I need to talk with you!" Sanae considered leaving the door shut, but Kanako's mutterings made her change her mind. "Oh, good! My name is Shinki, and I'll be your host for the next month or so. I hope we won't have any problems." Kanako stared at the white-haired woman.

"Host?" Shinki nodded.

"Oh, yes! Everything is underway in Gensokyo, and my people are working hard, but it'll still take a while. For now, though, is there anything I can do for you? You can simply use the phone if you think of something and I'm not here, but since I am here right now …." Sanae raised a hand, and the woman smiled obsequiously at her.

"Um … where are we, and why are we here? How did we get here, and … and what's going on?"

"Oh, didn't they explain things to you? Ah, I'll have to pass a message along with the next group, but …," she produced a scroll that unrolled down the long hallway, "it starts with " a house with a Mercedes, swimming pool, and room for a pony," and ends with "a ten-meter-tall statue of Kanako and Suwako doing the Can-Can."" Sanae blushed and paled in equal measure, too terrified to turn around. "Anyway, you're in Makai right now, since my people are the ones handling the renovations. We don't get to go to Gensokyo, but since they're working under controlled circumstances, it seems it doesn't violate any agreements - we even had Yukari go over the documentation before that nice young lady and I signed it." She looked up as a discordant tone sounded, followed by an announcement in some eye-watering language. She sighed. "Well, it seems I have to go now, but I'll leave this here so you don't forget what you're getting when you get back." She turned to go, but turned back at Kanako's call.

"Wait! We want to get back to Gensokyo!" Shinki tutted.

"I'm sorry, but I can't do that. A devil's contract is absolute, and that young lady was very specific that you are to be kept here, out of Gensokyo, until everything on the list has been completed to their satisfaction. Now, if you'll excuse me, I really must go." She turned and stepped forward, vanishing completely.

"… The second thing on the list is a 109-meter tall, two-ton, nuclear-fusion-powered super robot. Why?"[/quote]

I wasn't kidding when I made it the first two things on that list I made after "Get enough money for a parasol." Personally, I consider acquiring that god tier parasol I mentioned earlier to be the ultimate goal of this arc.

Leather holds enchantments at 'ehh' levels, so a leather parasol would hold more than a frilly one would.

Yeah, but it's going to be destroyed in the surprise opening salvo of whatever shit you just know is going to go down on the upcoming journey, so there's little point in worrying about enchantability until we get something worth enchanting. The choice I face now on which option to vote for is whether to look fancy while it lasts, or to get a pile of cheap ones to treat as disposable.
