A Frilly one will likely take longer to make than a leather one. Not sure cost-wise though.
That is a good point. Could I get a WoG on whether there'll be time to get a fancy one made, and how many cheap ones can be made, and on whether they'll do a discount on bulk orders?

Edit: Fehh, unless it turns out that the frilly ones are somehow cheaper or faster to make:

I will not WoG this; Flan would have to comparison shop. I will, however, do you all the tremendous favor of pointing out that there is no Radiant Raiment outlet in Whiterun.
Then leather is the only one we will find.
The other would be a waste of time.
... The towns are not as tiny as they are in 'Skyrim' due to being an actual place (ie. thousands of inhabitants, dozens of businesses.)
I think only the biggest businesses in Actual Skyrim were represented in Game Skyrim.
So therefore, leather from a certain place near the city gates should be good/high-quality.

There is a TIE.

Huh, so mine counts as a separate vote. I guess I can drop the part about buying a bunch of spares, but there's no reason not to ask about where we can get one pimped out.

Edit: Looking for Frills it is.
... But Leather had four votes while Frills only had three, plus isn't likely to be very successful. That vote for More Leather (even if they hadn't said they were removing the subvote) should have counted for leather.

EDIT: COME ON, THEY OBVIOUSLY MEANT REMOVING BOTH THEIR SUBVOTES, DON'T BE PEDANTIC ABOUT IT.
SO THEY WERE CHANGING IT TO:

-[X] See if you can find a leatherworker or other artisan to make you a parasol. You don't need it to be fancy, just shady
LIKE THE REST OF THE LEATHER VOTES, OTHERWISE IT WAS CLEARLY MEANINGLESS.

I've never counted votes that way. Votes that are identical barring slightly different spelling or grammar I can merge, but ones that have accessories get counted differently.

 And if you look at what the actual vote he made was, it's still got both accessories checked. He didn't make a new vote, either. Arguably, my pedantry was in taking his post as a vote change period, because I should have simply kept his vote as it was before.

Up to you, but it doesn't seem quite right in a tiebreak not to count them as similar enough to each other, especially if someone said they were changing to break the tie.

"So, Agito!" She looks up at you from the desk where she and Lutecia were talking. "We need to go shopping." She shrinks back from your smile.

"Shopping? Why me?" You exaggerate a sigh and hop to your feet.

"Because of your dress. You didn't forget about it, did you? You're going to come too, right, Lutecia?" She nods, a small but happy smile on her face, and Agito droops. "Come on! It'll be fun!" You make sure to lock the door behind you and keep a firm grip on the key. All your really important items are with you, safer than physically present, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take precautions!

It takes some time to find the nicer tailors, good quality without being too expensive - mainly because they're actually tucked away on a different street from the gaudily expensive and lower-quality stores. Agito grumbles as you search.

"I don't see why we can't just pick one of the 'low-quality' ones," she says. You tsk and wag your finger at her.

"We only expect to be here a week or so, yes, but higher-quality means less chance of anything happening to the dress in abnormal stress events. A low-quality one probably isn't going to fall apart if you have to run for your life, but a well-made one certainly won't. Besides - well-made clothes are much more comfortable." Lutecia seems a bit more interested in your destination now, and Agito is mostly satisfied.

"So why don't we go to one of the really expensive places? They've gotta be well-made!" You shake your head again.

"Past a certain point the quality of the material changes differently. You're paying for how exotic the fabric is, and how fancy the dress is." You look at them. "Really? Neither of you have any idea about clothes and fashion?" Lutecia looks a little embarrassed, but Agito seems proud of her ignorance. You shake your head mournfully - never mind that you'd be just as ignorant if Remilia hadn't pounded some of her lessons into your head so long ago! You stay out of the way inside the shops - apart from making sure they get good-quality dresses, you don't have much to add, and you take your time looking around the shops for parasols. You don't find any, only oiled sailcloth rain-capes and cloaks. Lutecia and Agito each get two dresses, and you hide your smirk as they carry them out. Surprisingly inexpensive, really ….

"So, what were you looking for while we were busy, huh? I thought you said you didn't want any dresses?" Agito pesters you, grinning, and Lutecia looks curious as well. You shrug.

"Parasols. I haven't been able to find any, though, so if you don't mind, I'd like to see if they have any in the more expensive places." Agito frowns questioningly.

"Don't you already have a couple of umbrellas?" You sigh.

"Yes, but I'd like a local one for the same reason I'm wearing a cloak, we're all wearing local clothes, and we're bothering people as little as possible. They're different, and that means people will remember them and pay attention to who's carrying them. We're getting enough trouble having to use telepathy to communicate." Lutecia touches Agito's shoulder.

"It's alright, Flandre. We don't mind." She smiles at you as Agito nods, and you hug them both before scampering toward one of the more expensive shops. The first two shops end in disappointment, and questioning the shopkeepers reveals that they don't even carry parasols. You start to leave, rather unhappy about your lack of success but masking it well enough.

"Uh, Flan? How about that one?" Agito points at one of the shops - one that has a woman carrying a parasol on its sign. Surely it has some! Maybe they're even nice enough for someone of your station! You hurry into the shop and start looking around, ignoring the two storekeepers for now. It's not that big a building, surely you can find what you want quickly …. Your hopes begin to falter as your search turns up nothing, and you turn to the counter to see Agito and Lutecia waiting unhappily as the storekeepers babble at each other.

"No parasols?" Agito shakes her head and Lutecia looks at the floor, shrinking away from you without moving. You glance at the shopkeepers, and Agito obligingly connects you to them. "You don't have any parasols, but you know what they are, yes? How long would it take to get one, either custom-made or imported?" They stop their squabbling as you ask your question, and the human takes a step back as his partner, a grey-skinned and sharp-eared man leans against the counter.

"Would take time," he begins, face neutral. "No mechanism, unused. Unfolding? Leather, wood, cloth -" His partner snorts and stomps the ground.

"No true shade other milk-drink soft-head! Can't weather go home inside!" You stare at him, trying to figure out what he just tried to say, but all you can really tell is that he was terribly crude and insulting, and he laughs at you as a glare creeps across your face. His partner sighs and slumps against the counter as you turn and march out of the store. Lutecia and Agito follow you quickly as the human yells something after you and laughs again.

"Um, Flan? Are you okay?" You slow down a bit so Lutecia doesn't need to trot to keep up.

"I'm fine. If I need a parasol, I'll just use one of the ones I have, deal with the consequences as they come." Your tone is short and clipped, and they leave you alone for the rest of the walk back to the hostel.

You sit up and look around the room. It's dark, but it's dark for humans, not you, and you can tell Lutecia and Agito are asleep anyway. You make your way silently to the door, take the key with you as you slip out. Hope they didn't hear the lock turning. You don Loki's garb, unwilling to continue your plan naked. The hostel's door is unlocked, presumably for late-arriving guests or those who - like you - have business during the night. You notice the same symbol as on the shop, a diamond with overlapping circles. Interesting. You leap into the air and fly not to the dress shop, but to the gatehouse. You take two of the throwing spears that are racked inside and then make your way to your victims. You'd prefer something longer, really - pikes, or some kind of winged spear - but these will do. It's not like you'll be doing a full impaling anyway.

You break down the door with a single kick, grinning at the crashing noise, and conjure some bullets for your guests' use. It wouldn't do for them to be unable to see you, when you came so far to see them, after all. You lean the spears against the counter and use your claws to gouge a hole in it, then set one inside it. You push against it, but it holds. Good. You find the strongbox holding their profits and indulge yourself, then bring out a few more bullets and fling them up into the ceiling - and your grin widens at the shouts of alarm. More than just your chosen victims, but that's no matter. You wait for them to come down. The grey-skinned man is first, sheathed in flame and carrying a long, one-handed sword. He wasn't so bad, but he was a fool for letting his partner speak at all, and you pulverize his knees with your bullets. He tumbles to the floor, shrieking, and his shield winks out of existence before it can set the building ablaze. His partner leaps over him, bare-chested and carrying a huge axe. He swings mightily at you, the blade arcing across to take your head off, and you lazily hold your arm out, catching the shaft just below the head and stopping it cold. The man jerks as his movement is brutally halted, and you rip the axe out of his hands and toss it aside. Only briefly shocked, he roars and tries to punch you, but you dip to the side and yank his arm closer - as he stumbles, you club your own fist down onto his shoulder, shattering the bones. He collapses, but you're still holding his arm, and he shrieks in pain.

You grab him by the collarbone, your claws sinking into his flesh, and you shove him onto the spear, avoiding the quick-death organs. He gasps and drums his feet against the counter, tries to grab the spear with his good arm, but you ruin that one too, breaking his forearm twice and twisting his upper arm until his shoulder is destroyed. He tries to suck in air, and you lean closer to him, smiling until he recognizes you.

"Yes! It's me. You laughed at me. You laughed at me, and you insulted me!" You slap him, cracking something in his jaw and eliciting a high-pitched whimper. There's a thump, followed by a dragging sound, and you turn to see his partner using his sword to drag himself forward. "Aww. How sweet. Too bad!" You dart forward and stomp on the grey-skinned man's head, caving it in. "He was polite, so he dies quickly. You weren't. I'm going to kill you slowly. But first …." You float up the stairs, drawing out your sister's gift as you land on the upper floor. Four women greet you, all mostly undressed, and you sigh, disgusted. Two of them grab weapons and throw themselves at you, but the protection of your clothing holds easily - the blades literally bounce off, and you savor their shock and fear before killing them. The third woman grabs the fourth and shoves her at you before trying to run for the window, but you simply rip through the stumbling girl before ripping apart the last one. You take a deep, calming breath, enjoying the violence, then walk down the stairs.

"You still haven't managed to free yourself? Can't kick the counter down, or kick yourself off the spear? My, my." The man is breathing shallowly now, pale and trembling, and you laugh. He coughs, and your light, innocent laughter turns to malevolent cackling as you throw your head back. You dismiss the bullets, and the man whimpers in the dark. "Afraid of what you can't see? Here, let me give you … a little light." You pour power into Laevateinn, then sweep it in a three-quarter-circle behind you, leaving only the arc the man is in untouched. "I hear that burning to death is a slow way to go. Unfortunately, you'll probably be dead from the building collapsing on you before the fire gets to you, but … well, what can a girl do?" You pat him on the head and smile, then ram your gift through his stomach. He cries out, and you laugh again before leaving. The flames of your sister's gift even reached across the street, and the wooden buildings, no doubt sealed with oil or pitch against the rain, are fairly quick to burn. Of course, there are all those clothes …. You giggle all the way back to your room, and the only thing you enjoy more than the sight of the flames from the roof of the hostel is the memory of human shrieks.

You snarl grumpily at the weather outside as you make sure your packs are sealed. Yesterday was overcast as well, alternating between hard-driving cold rain short periods of almost-snow. It kept Lutecia and Agito cooped up as well, although they made some escapes into the dining area when you got too insufferable. You spent much of the day drowsing in your bed, helping Giltless and Headless clean up and examine your mental construct. It seems to be both safe and secure, although the tower is a little redder than the last time you saw it. For now, though, it's time to join the caravan, and you haul the packs down the stairs to Agito and Lutecia, both wearing the newer dresses they'd bought. The magician leans against you and smiles a little as you set the packs down.

"They don't expect this kind of weather past today - apparently it's got something to do with the mountains - and it shouldn't slow us down too much. I guess they make this trip pretty regularly." You nod silently and wait until they're ready, then follow them into the dreary day. The poor weather doesn't help much against the sunlight - you're uncomfortable to begin with, and it doesn't block the effects as much as you'd expected. Still, at least you won't be walking.

You jump into the carriage first, swinging your pack into the space between the seats, then help Lutecia and Agito clamber up. Two others climb in after you - two more grey-skinned people, a man and a woman, but they sit as far from each other as possible. A handful of outriders and some armed men in the first and last wagons make up the train's guard, and Agito looks around nervously.

"The last one get one of those fancy fighters, how come we don't?" You huff.

"Maybe this road is safer. Maybe he's going on a personal trip. Besides, I'm here! Everything will be fine." Agito sighs. "How long was this supposed to take?"

"Three days. It used to be two, but the place they used to stop on the first day isn't safe anymore, so they leave later on the first day, and are more careful on the second." You nod as the wagons and carriages start moving.

Not sure if I covered this before, but Flan is literate and fluent in German (including every major dialect), English, French, Italian, and Japanese, and she can work her way through Latin, Russian, and (written-only) Classical/Literary Chinese ... and I believe I stated somewhere that Flan learned Japanese via magic. Learning a new language by observation (a la The 13th Warrior) isn't something she can really do, although she can pick up names (individual and place) without too much trouble. Short of finding someone willing to sit down with her and actually work with her to figure it out, she's not going to get much of anything, especially not in three days.

Ah well, that's what I get for not cleaning up after myself. The quest for ludicrously OP shade-makers will have to resume later.

I don't expect much to come from the language stuff, but we can at least see if we can get one of the guards to teach us some swear words so we know when it's time to teach someone else what pavement tastes like.

Seconding that, but man, Flan is rapidly building her home company again, she's got a proto-patchy and her koakuma, almost had a maid, just needs a proper gate guard/gardender.

How about we just carry on and see who we come across. Maybe next world is Paradisa, land of Gardens and Statues or something.
