Firebird, a Worm AU/Xover?

Armsmaster is probably the best teacher that Winslow has. Though that is not saying much.

Curious as to why Taylor hasn't thought that her powers are starting to bear a striking resemblance to the Simurgh.

And the Darwin Award goes to Sophia!

This is a new thing? Thought she automatically earned the Darwin award when Taylor gained a pet phoenix inside her head.

@chibipoe, I don't have any clear reasons to why I don't think this Taylor is...Taylor. Part of that may be possible mental contamination from the Phoenix, but...she really doesn't feel like Taylor to me.

Mind Meld is a hell of Psychic Phenomenon

Besides WOG states Jean is also getting some of Taylor within her throught the Phoenix Link so for all we knows Jean is telekinetic crushing Eyes and Balls left and right

That's valid. And I'm sure there's some mental contamination from the Phoenix at play. I was trying for a bit more outgoing, though jaded by the locker events. She's gotten a nice shot of adamantium into her spine and isn't willing to back down. She does, canonically, have a bit of a vicious streak, even if she rarely indulges it. (I don't consider her choice of places to attack Lung as vicious so much as practical) vicious is the stunt with Emma in the cafeteria at Arcadia with a bug just because she could.

Anyway. I am open to suggestions on that, bearing in mind that I've detoured before the canon story starts. There, the locker beat her further down, here... thanks to... other influences... it's been the reverse.

I don't remember that at all. Citation?

Taylor has some of Jean influencing her actions. Sometimes it's more blatant than other times. A few chapters back, it was really blatant. Less so in more recent chapters. At present, the source of those influences comes from the Phoenix, sleeping within Taylor, as it has the Life & Times of Jean Grey up until her death floating around in its consciousness. Those memories drift up and affect Taylor. As far as in the other direction... well, the point in time that the Phoenix crossed over from... Jean's dead. Or comatose in a cocoon somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. Take your pick.

PArt of it was the dissonance I found in going from 'ohgodlocker' to 'I'mma be Queen of the School!' before emma gets back. Why does she care about being Queen Bee?

Why is she trusting that these two new people are for real? Empathic senses? IIRC, she had a girl pretend to be her friend for a while before the locker incident, then backstab her for the Lulz.

She has the telepathy she's getting the TK.
She definitely doesn't have the telepathy yet, at least not under her control. Telepathy being both the reading of other's minds and altering their minds. She has shown that she can instinctively alter, like with Gladly and those gang-bangers, but not with any conscious control. I assumed that the buzzing sound she heard was the beginnings of her listening in on other's thoughts.

Yeah, I knew Jean was bleeding over, I was challenging the claim that Jean was also being affected, which your response proved that she, as current, is not.

I thnk the only thing that stands out to me personally is that Taylor is supposed to be really bad at faking sincerity. Either her concern for Sophia was genuine, or she is better at acting a part. Minor and likely filtered through Sophia's crazy but it's the only issue I can think of.

It isn't so much she cares about being Queen bee as she wants to be unassailable when Emma comes back and she figures being socially dominant is one way to do that. Maybe not the best way, but it isn't as if her other attempts to make it stop have worked.

As to that. Empathic senses and loneliness. Catherine & Minako -have- noticed that she's still wary around them, if not why. Minako more than Catherine, anyway, as she's just more perceptive than her friend.

Why wouldn't she be sincere? That probably did look like it hurt.

Sophia thought she sounded sincere, but Taylor was just a bit panicked because it was a pretty nasty spill Sophia took and that actually helped her sound sincere to the coach, who was more focused on Sophia being hurt.

Take away the panic and it would have been rather like when one of the parents pleads with Wonka to do something because their kids are miserable little shits and he gives a blatantly insincere attempt at stopping them. (Wilder's Wonka does it better, I think)

Except she should know that politics are a cesspool, especially when dealing with popularity and high school. Being Queen Bee just gets you sycophants willing to stab you in the back if it gets them up the popularity ladder to the top.

I don't recall that being alluded to in the relevant sections. I'd have to go back and reread them to see if there's any sense of 'I just...felt like they were genuine' or 'they didn't feel fake, like that other girl does'

...why would that panic her? Sophia was literally planning on doing that exact thing to her.

Good Chappy, Really liked colins speech. It made him sound not like a collosal dick.

As for people...
Eric = Magneto?

So basically:
- "This isn't working. I need to be part of a group for safety."
- "The group I join must be immune to corruption or takeover by the trio."
- "Well, crap. There don't seem to be any groups that I would want to join."
- "Hmm. Guess I'll just make my own group."
- "Hmm. The best protection from corruption or takeover is to hold the dominant position myself."

Like many other Taylor conquests, it begins mostly by accident, and it ends with tears, fire, and wailing.

I know I at least expressed wariness from her initially. I'll make a note to look the scenes over again though

As to the other. She knew that stepping the way she did would cause Sophia to go down. She didn't look to see how bad it was going to be. She feels bad about that. Just a bit. Call it maybe 12% bad.

Don't forget someone's limb like a bombers toe or a pair of dragon eyes.

I bit my lip, considering the offer. Neither gave me any sense of dishonesty, but after the stunt Emma had come up with of getting someone to pretend to be my friend, I was wary. Still, I did have to start somewhere, right? Having friends as support was going to be crucial if I really wanted to go forward with my plans.

I exhaled slowly and then nodded. "That sounds like fun, actually." Both of them beamed and I felt the distrust of others lessen a bit. I would make friends and put an end to Emma's campaign of terror. I had to start somewhere and this was as good a place as any for that.

This is...fairly tepid, so far as 'demonstrating wariness' goes.

To be fair, Darwin Awards are awarded when somebody does something obviously stupid. While it's kind of dumb to attack a possible cape with an unknown power, no one has any reason to believe that Taylor has an immensely powerful mystical force inside her. So far all Sophia knows is that Taylor's probably some kind of precog.
