Firebird, a Worm AU/Xover?

Taylor has repeatedly done her best to hide all evidence of bullying, even after she was sent to the locker. Former friends become estranged over time; her not hanging out with Emma isn't worthy of too much concern.

Okay. So... what would your solution be? I'm pretty sure she can't be registered to carry a firearm yet, and unless you want Danny to keep her under house arrest there's no better solution.

Okay, buying her a cell phone would help, but they both have trauma about that.

False. Brockton Bay is an exception.

I can get laying some of the blame on Danny. He's not innocent. But you (and a lot of others) seem to be laying the blame solely on Danny's feet.

Really, most of you are acting very two-faced about this. You say that Danny hasn't shown concern for Taylor, then condemn his actions for showing too much concern?

Danny himself admitted he screwed up, and he isn't quite sure how to fix things. So he's going to the professionals, people who are experienced in these matters. Admitting he can't do this alone is a sign of good character.
Er..UI flat out said most of this is Taylor's fault...
I never blamed Danny for anything, I'm only talking about his negligence.

Which is pretty bad, actually, I think Scion kind of needed that one.
Well, given that he functioned just fine without it in canon (by 'just fine' I mean as stupid as ever), and his end game plan is, in this fic, 'attempt to destroy something someone bigger than me is currently using as its playground', I'd say that him noticing the loss of a shard is mostly irrelevant.

But that's the thing. They didn't, not really. They investigated Taylors school. Because of her pyrotechnical display. That Taylor is just really shitty at keeping her identity secret isn't really their fault now is it.
It's Taylor's fault that they identified her as the main suspect because she failed to hide her involvement in the locker incident?

Ya know...no lawyer would touch this kind of case...

We have a parent forcing their child to enlist into a semi-lifetime organization.

Said child runs away from home.

And the organization reprimands the child and tries to retrieve them by force.

At this point it's only self defense when she Retcons them.

Depends on what is allowed in court...

"I believe she's a danger to herself and or others. Also, she has super powers."

Previous "Carrie" cases have probably set precedents.

In real life, quite a few people are committed to an asylum without consent.

Retcon who?

The precedent that forcing Teenagers with superpowers to do things they don't want to do is a stupid plan?

Carrie incidents only apply to cases where they go postal at school.

The people claiming that Taylor's dislike and distrust of the PRT has no objective merit seem to be forgetting that Miss Militia basically admitted the PRT would try to recruit the girl who tried to murder her.

That seems to be a pretty good reason to me, and I still remain baffled that "unspecified arguments which break Danny as a person" came before "you think signing on with the group that wants to recruit the girl who made my life hell for years and tried to murder me at the school you sent me back to will make me safer?"

I agree with Cyclone.

I'd be very, very surprised if Taylor didn't consider leaving Brockton Bay shortly. While she does have friends, if she stays in the area she's going to come into conflict with the PRT eventually. Given that she can fly.. well, hopping to another city (and then possibly heading out of PRT jurisdiction entirely) makes a lot of sense.

.. plus it gets her away from whatever precog is trying to kidnap her.

Of course, I know with writing constraints trying to have Taylor leave the city entirely would be a massive addition to chibipoe's* workload.. but damn if it doesn't make sense.

* @chibipoe - Your screen name isn't capitalized, but capitalization is normal for writing someone's name. I'm trying to take your version and it always leaves me feeling awkward. Do you have a spelling preference?

well...
Think of it this way..

chibi means small.

But I doubt Taylor would leave BB, if she did maybe she'd wind up in a nice little suburb in New York...

I'm not certain that Taylor's precog can be blamed entirely for not attempting to argue her position with Danny. It appears he wasn't going to even contemplate negotiating his position with Taylor, or accept the possibility of other alternatives, merely confronting her with his mind already made up. If any of the potential outcomes had been along the lines of "I'll have to think about that", as opposed to her arguments being dismissed, or worse driving him more firmly into his pre-established position, I can't see that not being seen as a win, if only a small one.

I suspect that Taylor may have been willing to accept an affiliation with the Wards, where she can discover from the only sources she'd be willing to trust, the Wards themselves, that, much to her astonishment and surprise, the PRT, unlike her recent experience, is neither willfully blind, nor out to screw her over because the pretty people cry crocodile tears. At that point a full membership in the Wards becomes just that much more likely. Probably the entire point for the existence of what Piggot offered to Taylor.

That seems to be a pretty good reason to me, and I still remain baffled that "unspecified arguments which break Danny as a person" came before "you think signing on with the group that wants to recruit the girl who made my life hell for years and tried to murder me at the school you sent me back to will make me safer?"

If it was mentioned to Danny that Sophia wasn't asked to join the Wards, as opposed to being forced to join the Wards as a way to keep her under control, I doubt that that argument would hold much sway. Of course, if he doesn't mention the reason the argument carries no weight is that Sophia's recruitment was a punishment, and I'm fairly certain it wasn't spun that way by Miss Militia when Taylor found out, it's going to be filed under "Arguments that are important to me that my dad's just going to ignore, because my opinion obviously doesn't matter, as he's already made up his mind".

Hmm... I wonder if Browbeat is going to be called onto the mat when Taylor finds out that Madison == Browbeat? Sophia's gone, Emma's apologised, though I seriously doubt that she's anywhere near forgiven... but Madison was the one who managed to get the system to screw Taylor over (or at least supplied the crocodile tears for doing so). I can't help but think of a look of glee on Taylor's face as Madison becomes a valid target for some payback, err... sparring. It would be extra vicious if she ever finds out why the Trio was getting away with things was because of Madison. I imagine Madison's reaction would be the standard sociopath (I think) one... "I just kicked the dog every day when I came home... why would it suddenly decide to bite me?"

Madison's viewpoint hasn't shown a complete sociopath. She appears to want to "get along" and not be the target of trouble. As such she "went along with" hurting Taylor because the alternative was to be hurt herself.

"Enlightened self interest?" Sure. "Why am I being punished for this?" That implies a level of utter disregard for others that Madison hasn't shown in-story.

I think her response would be more along the lines of ":o Oh, sonuva ... Taylor got super-powers! This is gonna hurt."

I meant it screwed his long term prospectives since he probably needs it to make his Space Whale body works when he leaves Earth...though of course his long term plans are already screwed and are going to be screwed further for other reasons already.

If she finds out?

World's only Mind Reader here...
Hmm. point.

Then again, she's got to actually check, and she's shown an aversion for doing so casually... but no compunctions against doing it to people that she would consider to be The Management (or perhaps The Enemy, but I don't think she's quite that jaded just yet), as The Management has demonstrated itself to not be worthy of being trusted.

I wonder if she's going to retain Jean Gray's ethics of not reading minds, or, instead, attempt to be able to read a specific mind in a theatre (or at least, the ability to function whilst attempting to read a mind in a theatre); Presumably a pre-cognitive mind-reader would have a greater combat advantage than someone who is merely pre-cognitive.

Jean Grey wasn't a very good mind reader for years....

It took her a long time to be able Not to read minds.

So far all Taylor is getting is static and glimpses from those familiar with her.

Once her next surge happens she's gonna be discovering secrets left and right.

I think the thing about this interpretation of Danny that I dislike the most is that he keeps hinging his arguments about her going out alone. And yet, he then turns around and uses her going out with Glory Girl as an example of her going out alone, despite the fact she was neither alone, and with one of the strongest heros in town, who has an entire backup family, and the best healer on the east coast if not continental US. Neither does Taylor ever point out the fact that there are heros she can go with, other options besides ALONE or the Wards.
What only makes it a bit more frustrating is that Taylor herself doesn't say anything about it either. She could have told him she knows other independent capes. That she can work with them, that she's worked with Glory Girl, that she can associate with the protectorate and others as well. But she doesn't do this either.

Why is there this intentional blind spot for both of them?

Edit:
As an aside, I just thought of an interesting hole in the "signed up for the wards" situation.

If she goes out as a cape and claims to be a legal adult, and not to be whatever teen was signed up with the wards, what can they really do without exposing her? It becomes a we say she say's situation and until and unless they unmask her they can't prove that the hero Sirin is the underage daughter of Danny Hebert who has been signed up as a member of the wards and therefore in their custody. Or if there is paperwork about Sirin, she could claim to be the adult hero Siren, etc etc. You can't force a hero to unmask to prove their age afterall.
