Village Items are tough. The Seal is more for Ryza to have another investigation project to poke at rather than for immediate use in my mind, not that I'd mind if it were lol.

Knowing is half any battle. The letter is almost mandatory. I'd consider the rune-marked stone as the other option for similar-ish reasons, but what a Seal represents and how it works is too good to pass up. We may not get other opportunities, after all.

I'm eager to find out what that heirloom is, too. (After all, the vote items are bonuses in addition to the heirloom if I read it right!)

The real interesting thing is--what would Ryza's Promote even be?

Because apparently Promotes are enough to convert someone into Dragon level people right on the spot, that's way beyond Ryza's current abilities without going Dragon, but that also means that the Dragon is in control, while Sealed people are just Dragon level power but without weakening their mind.

Please tell me the guy who's coming to cause us Problems isn't a Sealed person. Because combining Dragon Dice with Wyrmslayer weapons is a really bad time.

Pretty sure he is, he was described as a Wyvern Lord when it was mentioned to us that we would absolutely 100% lose if we tried to fight him, even in Dragon form. I would assume that's the promoted form of Wyvern Rider like the ones we're facing in this battle.

"Oh-rah!" Kelton says, banging his lance on a stone.
Kelton is such a jarhead.

Angela and her friends are a well-carved rune-structure, spreading out to surround the wyvern, darting in and out to poke at her haunches, tail, wings, and any other vulnerable point they can find.
That sure is a Ryza way of describing a Triangle Attack.

Kelton's seemingly pathological need to get hit by every single enemy fighter as he stabbed them and gave other people openings to finish them off
...it's a good thing that boy's tough.

Even if we don't opt to use it right away, promotion items are too good to pass up.
Especially given what lore SoaringHawk's explained, about them being exceptionally rare artifacts. And @Alcor makes a good point about Ryza getting a chance to poke at it.

-[X] A damaged dragonstone (Useless, but Ryza'll want it)

Mrrrrr.

Okay, yeah, we probably want someone in our crew to get a Seal to help tilt the scales down the line, even if their growth is slowed down a little, the option of converting to Dragon Dice will be nice.

Though we can't determine which Seal we'll actually get of course.

Always get Seals whenever possible. There's never enough.

The only cheat I've ever used when emulating FE6-8 is hacking in more promotion items. There are never ever ever enough to promote everybody a "raise everybody" person would want to.

So. We get a chance for a Seal...we do it.

Not unless you find the one Secret Shop that sells every promotion item for 10K gold each.

And given the lore we've gotten so far on this continent, we won't have that.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: no opportunity to obtain a Seal should be dismissed out of hand. They can and will mean the difference between a good unit staying relevant to the endgame, or being relegated to the bench.

And on a related note - Artemis and Ryza's promotions are likely to be progression-locked in some form, like most FE lords. Though from what we currently understand about how seals work, I see it as more likely that Ryza will take after Marth, being locked to a single class for the entire game and being given a level cap of 30 in addition to notably better growths than everyone else to compensate. I'm not really sure what direction Artemis will go for her promotion, though, considering we haven't gotten that many chances to see how she prefers to expand on her combat capabilities. The best I can come up with right now is that she might be leaning towards something akin to a Ranger/Nomad Trooper, I.e. giving her a mount and a Sword weapon rank, considering her relationship with Actaeon.

Speculating is fun, innit?

About the only FE game that doesn't make you scrape and beg for promotions is Three Houses, and even that one had enforced scarcity on a few classes. (Like if you want a caster that can keep up with the army without an utterly ridiculous grind.)

Promotion Information
So @SoaringHawk218 , who would be eligible for the Seals that are on the table here?
Kelton, Phoebe, Axton and Lancel would be eligible for the Knight Seal. Elena and Alejandro would be eligible for the Mercenary Seal.

I'm going with FE 8's branching promotion paths, so each character would get the chance to promote into one of two advanced classes. For example, Kelton can either go Sentinel (giving him a more defensive skill) or Champion (giving a more aggressive skill). I haven't decided exactly what those are yet, but when the time comes to promote I'll tell everyone what they are in advance so you can make an informed vote.

I'm also probably going to let you choose which seal or weapon you get rather than rolling it. I was thinking along the lines of players getting assigned something in the games, but in hindsight that feels a little mean.

As for Artemis and Ryza...

And on a related note - Artemis and Ryza's promotions are likely to be progression-locked in some form, like most FE lords.

Quoted for truth. Artemis will get a Heaven's Seal equivalent eventually, which will promote her into her single promotion class. I've already decided on her skill:

Chosen by Fate: Starts with Advantage in all combats, though Advantage can be lost depending on circumstances.

As for Ryza... well, her's will be a sort of pseudo-promotion, and depending on the exact circumstances and votes it might not appear, there's a very specific thing that must happen to do it... but I guarantee, if it does come up, it'll be a big deal.

EDIT:

It's not going to be some kind of thing that we have to do Horrible Sacrifices to acquire, or effectively blindly walk through just the right series of events sight unseen to unlock though, right?

It certainly isn't a Horrible Sacrifice, and while it does require a specific event to occur, there are many, many ways for that event to happen, and I'll tell you right now I have an active interest in making that event happen, so unless you lot determinedly avoid it, it's likely to happen. I just wanted to say that it's one of those things that's technically missable
I and certain in-universe powers intend for it to happen.

Yeah, Seals seem to be a way for humans to gain power equal to Dragons, Ryza is already a Dragon, so it's hard to see how Promotion would work for her.

It's actually pretty weird though! It honestly looks like Sealed are even stronger than Dragons, since they have full control of their wits, but bolt on the power of a fully awakened Dragon on top of it. Ryza certainly can't compete with a Sealed person without switching to Dragon Form--but then the Sealed person can pretty reliably have access to Wyrmbane Weapons anyway. Which are devastating

Is not the awakening already a pseudo-promotion from Trainee-manakete to manakete? Theortically there could be a further promotion to "great manakete" but it would certainly be after we first encounter the fell dragon who already has "demon manakete" class.
