Oh good. I was worried the protagonists were Time Orphans that never really existed outside of the Chaldea Singularity.

Now that would be a kick in the nut for Roman, Leo and Mash

I can almost imagine them saying goodbye while fading away as Part 1 end

Mash would be devastate by something like that

Some one need to write this, i want to see Mash cry her heart out ~ hehehe

Chapter France - Pt. 3
A/N: God dammit I am posting SOMETHING this week. It's not everything I wanted to put in but it should be a natural stopping point anyways.

--

"...Okay but why?" Kana plants her hands on her hips and tilts her head. She looks quizzically at the Ruler, who looks curiously back at her. "Why would she burn France to fight Britain? That would just mean Britain wins."

The Maid of Orleans keeps looking at her as red creeps into her cheeks, until she explodes into a ball of flustered realisation. "...A-Ah! I'm sorry, I should elaborate! Y-You see, Master of Chaldea… I-I'm sorry, but may I know your names?" She asks, as she leans her banner against her shoulder so she may stroke her braid meekly with both hands.

"Kana," Kana provides immediately.

"Ritsuka," Ritsuka says quickly.

"M-Mashu," the Shielder adds, looking aside meekly.

Ritsuka frowns as he decides on a reasoned guess. "I imagine she's burning France for fuel? Gonna assume… related to the wyverns."

Jeanne nods immediately, and she frowns to seize the weight of her words once more. "Yes, precisely that. She wants her vengeance on both France and Britain, and unless we stop her soon there will be nothing left to save. She's already burned everything from Rouen to Chartres, and her horde is headed towards the coast! Only Paris of her cities remains unburned, her dark citadel."

The saint holds her hands against her chest, clasped together in prayer. She closes her eyes and mutters a few words softly, a wish for God to watch over her people. "She's waiting for me there," Jeanne says as she opens her eyes. "She knows I will come to her eventually. But I shan't go alone." She holds out a hand, looking to each of Ritsuka, Kana, and Mashu. "Will you help me?"

Kana and Mashu start to reach out, but Ritsuka grabs them both by the shoulder. They each step aside, letting him speak with the Saint, face to face. He's slightly taller than her, but her presence seems to swallow his. Nonetheless, he stands strong. "Where are the others? Is Marie all you have?" Jeanne nods once firmly. The Queen of France looks down at herself, holding her arms meekly. Ritsuka frowns at that. "What happened to the others?" He asks bluntly.

The Saint looks about quickly, her brow knitted. "Not here," she says. "I will tell you in the church."

----

She tells them everything, the story of her war against the Dragon Witch. Summoned as a Ruler without Command Seals and with Revelation sealed so soon after her death, Jeanne pressed on, organising her Servants quickly. They made for Paris and fought against the Dragon Witch. The battle was fought across what seemed like all of France, a hundred different towns and villages threatened by the witch and her forces. Jeanne could not abandon them if she tried, and she fought to protect them just as she tried to slay the enemy.

That was two weeks ago. Their war was only a few days, a week at the longest. It ended with the witch's victory, six Servants at her command, and herself with only Marie, fleeing the witch's service and seeking refuge under Jeanne's banner. They've wandered France since, praying for help as they do what they can to keep the countryside from being fully overrun.

Jeanne has prayed for salvation ever since, and so Chaldea has arrived.

----

"The Witch possesses all fourteen of my Command Seals," the Saint explains, every bit the general that history purports her to be. She speaks like singing steel, knowing that every moment counts. "Besides that, she stole three of my companions, who still fight for her now. They are Saber Siegfried, Archer Atalanta, and Berserker Lancelot. Besides them, she also commands Vlad Tepes III, Carmilla, and a… Tomorrow? Tonio?" She turns to Marie with a frown. "Marie, what was her name again?"

"Oh! Uh…" Queen Marie Antoinette taps her chin briefly and shrugs. "Tomato? I'm so sorry, I can't recall."

"Well, think back on your encounter with her…"

Kana barely hears any of their discussion. Her ears are ringing and her back has broken out in cold flashes. Their enemy, a false image of Joan of Arc, possesses eleven Command Seals. And has six Servants. Five old, storied, extremely powerful Servants, and one wildcard who might just be the strongest one of all. She turns turns to the others, hoping that they have a plan - or are at least joining her suffering.

Mashu is grimly determined, unflinching in the face of the unassailable odds before them. That's fair, yeah, strong girl that she is. Ritsuka is just as pale and his hands are shaking, trying to get a grip on himself. Yeah, fair, he probably knows more about their myths and thus any Noble Phantasms they may have to face. Caster is only slightly interested at best, probably because Atalanta is on the enemy team.

Lancer is smiling. No, Lancer is grinning. Wide, wolfish, feral and like a well-fed shark, Cu Chulainn's grin is enough to send another shiver up Kana's spine and make her want to curl up and cry for daddy and god dammit she can't do that daddy isn't here.

God dammit daddy.

"Q-Queen Antoinette," Ritsuka starts in bits and pieces.

She waves her hand and scoffs. "Please, just Marie is fine! What is it, Ritsuka?"

"...Marie, did this… 'Tomato'... have special ears?"

Marie thinks briefly on it and nods. "Yes, actually! She had a pair of big and fluffy fox ears - and a tail to match! Wait, no... How many--three, she had three tails!"

If Ritsuka was pale before, he's white as a sheet now. Kana feels her hands shake and clenches them hard. Mashu frowns slightly, as she thinks briefly on who she knows might have had fox ears and a tail in their legend.

Marie sees Ritsuka's complexion and frowns. "Is something wrong? Tout va bien, Ritsuka?" She asks.

"The Witch's Caster is Tamamo no Mae," Ritsuka rasps, his throat suddenly dry. Immediately, Mashu's eyes snap up in realisation.

"One of Japan's three great evils?" the Shielder asks. Ritsuka nods. "Possible aspect of Amaterasu?" Ritsuka nods again. "Is there… What can we do?"

"Ask me in an hour," he strains in reply. "Sorry just slightly freaking out here how did you lose with Lancelot on your team?!"

Jeanne frowns, and Kana feels a twinge of regret for her brother. "He was the first to abandon me," the Saint says simply. "He seemed a haunted knight. I only hope he can find the answers he seeks." She blinks, and holds onto her flag tightly by the pole. "I'm sorry, that was harsh. Do you need a moment, Ritsuka? I had hoped to discuss our next move now."

"Yes please," Ritsuka wheezes.

"And I'm going for a walk!" Kana declares. "Mashu, walk with me!"

"U-Uh…" She glances briefly at Ritsuka on the pew with his hands together and swallows. "Y-Yes, Kana-senp--"

Kana snaps her fingers. "Actually nevermind, stay here and make sure he breathes." She sighs and fumbles for her skirt pockets. Kana forgot that Chaldea doesn't make pockets for its skirts. Shit. "I'll take a walk around the village and be right back."

"I'll go with her," Lancer says, before Ritsuka can protest about how dangerous it can be. "Could use some air myself. Caster?"

"...I will pass. I have something to discuss with the boya."

Lancer shrugs and says nothing more. He follows after Kana as she leaves the church, hands holding onto her arms and trying to literally get a hold of herself.

Four and a half Servants against seven. What a fun day.

Ritsuka, stop giving yourself mental breakdowns!

Get used to being the underdog. It's basically in your job description.
