Regarding the endbringer, I feel that Taylor needs to be able to sustain a materialized Herc for a long while before she even thinks of confronting one of three.

As things are right now, he will at most spend few minutes in reality and then disappear without doing much of anything, especially if it's leviathan, considering how fast the watery bastard is.

We haven't hung out with our Big Brother in a while now, and we know Combat stuff is going to ramp up once the Endbringer hits. Why not take the chance to know him better? Taylor is STILL very ignorant, tbh.

You could make a case for her wanting to ask him if he killed Mush as well to get that off her chest.

[X] Play a board game

"What are we playing?" Taylor peered at the stack of board game boxes on a shelf.

Joanna went over to the shelf and slipped a few down. "I got card games, ever play poker? If not I could teach you, or we could play battleships. Monopoly generally needs more people sooo."

"I know of poker, it is a very popular game." Nikki stated after a moment of staring at the stack of games. "But monopoly would work as well."

"Any of them are still better than Guess Who", that had been Emma's go to. "I know a couple card games, uh, War and Texas Hold 'em?"

"Well let's pick one then." Joanna set the stack of games out on the dining room table. "I'm banning strip poker though." She gave both of them a gimlet stare.

"I am fine without such a barter. I prefer penny ante anyways." Nikki stated.

"Taylor, want to learn poker or go for a board game?" Joanna asked.

"What board games do you have?"

"Monopoly, Clue, Risk, Life, Shoots and ladders, battleships, Jenga, and uh, yahtzee." Joanna motioned to the stack of board games. "I mean, depending on how long we hang out, we might just play most of them. Anyone want snacks?"

"Fruit?" Nikki asked.

"Plenty, vegetables if ya wanna be a health nut as well." Joanna confirmed.

"Um… Jenga?" Taylor suggested after a moment. Mostly because it wasn't a long game like monopoly. Or Risk. She remembered one time setting up the board to play with her parents, it taking an hour, and then bumping into the tablet and knocking all the pieces over. She would not like to repeat that particular memory. "Also, yeah, snacks sound good. Got any chips?"

"Got lays, regular or wavy." Joanna offered as she made her way to the cabinets.

"Wavy sounds good."

"Jenga sounds nice." Nikki agreed. "Jenga, Joanna?"

"Sure." The blonde replied as she opened a cabinet door.

"Hey," Taylor got Nikki's attention as a thought occurred, "what did you play in Russia?"

Nikki shifted. "Poker." She replied. "Cards are easier to get than board games."

"Guess you must know a lot of card tricks then." Joanna said as she slid a plastic bowl next to Taylor's spot and set down the bag of chips who in return murmured a quiet thanks. "One second for your stuff Nikki."

As Joanna went to grab fruit for Nikki, Taylor got up from her spot and pulled out the Jenga box. Which was a bit hefty given that it was literally a box of wooden blocks. "Uh, free for all or one v one, winner continues?"

"Free for all." Both blondes chorused, Joanna pausing at the fridge to raise a brow only for Nikki to shrug. "I do not think it would be fair otherwise."

Said shrug Taylor mirrored as she turned the jenga box upside down and placed the tower in the center of the dining table.

She pulled out a single block from the center of the second lowest row.

"So. What did the date entail?" Joanna asked, looking between the two of them

"Hand-holding." Nikki replied.

Taylor's felt red dot her cheeks. "Yeah." It wasn't really something to be embarrassed about, but something in the way that Joanna stared at her with a smug glint in her eyes made her feel it regardless.

"Right, well at least you don't kiss on the first date Taylor." Joanna stated, a tinge of amusement leaking into her voice. "But where did you go?"

"Movies, then we had a reservation at a restaurant." Nikki offered.

"It was a nice restaurant too, fancy, had a view of the boardwalk." Her nose scrunched in disgust, "even if it had vegetarian lasagna." She normally wasn't that much of a hardliner when it came to food, but, like, meat was needed for lasagna to taste like lasagna.

"Geez, vegetarian lasagna? Must have been a fancy place for that kind of uptight garbage snooty people love." Joanna snorted.

"I did not know such a dish was such an offense. I will look for a better place on our next date." Nikki nodded solemnly "I will do better. Taylor deserves as much."

"NO, no, it's fine." Her arms weren't pinwheeling like in a cartoon, but every small motion as she tried to making a placating gesture felt like it as both her friends looked at her. "It's not that bad. Really." Nikki was looking at her, grey eyes staring unflinchingly into her own. "I just… it doesn't seem worth eating."

"Ah. Even so, the next date will be fun, and perhaps we will kiss during or after it." Nikki stated as she slipped a wood log out of the third to last row.

"Guess the third dates going to be the fun one huh?" Joanna asked, smirking.

"The first one was fun…" Taylor weakly defended.

Nikki nodded in agreement. "Very fun, though it made me quite nervous."

Taylor's head snapped up staring at Nikki in consideration, "How the heck were you nervous? You were smooth as, um, silk."

"I tap my feet." Nikki stated matter of factually. "Good for hiding nervousness. Especially in a dark movie theater or when they are under a table."

Joanna slapped her face. "Oh god I was talking about sex! SEX! You two are virginal maidens I swear."

"...yes?" It almost came out as a surprised squeak. Taylor felt proud of her control at preventing it. Nor having knocked over the tower as she pulled a block.

"Sheltered virgin marys." Joanna rolled her eyes. "Not like I've ever gotten laid."

Nikki poked a block out. "Neither have I. Though I did not catch the dirty joke."

"Clearly." Joanna said as she rolled her eyes and went to poke out another block.

Taylor pulled out a side block from a row that hadn't been touched yet. "Spring break's in a month, any plans?"

"Family business stuff unfortunately. I rarely get to actually go anywhere because of it." Joanna sighed. "It's a drag, but hey it's good money."

"I may go down to Boston for a week, to visit my babushka." Nikki replied. "What about you Taylor?"

Go caping, obviously, except that wasn't what Taylor was going to be able to say out loud. "Maybe go on a hike if the weather is nice enough and not too slushy." Which honestly was probably the truth as she did have to hike quite a ways away to practice with her power.

Her brow furrowed.

"Doesn't your grandmother live with you?"

"She does, but we also own property in Boston, we're trying to sell it but it is taking some time. She alternates living in it, just to make sure no squatters show up." Nikki answered.

Joanna blinked. "You own property in Boston?"

"We do." Nikki confirmed.

"Huh." Joanna muttered something before shaking her head. "I think this is the only property my mom owns."

"Same. Just the house for dad and me." She glanced at the shorter blonde. "Aren't you too young to work or is it under the table, hush-hush stuff?"

Joanna wiggled her hand. "Intern stuff plus learning how to run things. Less 'hush hush' and more legal loophole." She explained, poking a brick and causing the tower to wobble.

The blonder blond frown and gently eased a different brick free.

"Nice." Nikki noted "I do not work, but I do have an allowance."

"Plus what you get from art sales, right?" Taylor asked after pulling out another block.

Nikki simply nodded as she easily slid another wooden block out of the tower.

"Honestly, I might be interested in hearing your prices at some point." Joanna offered, motioning for Taylor to go. She pushed out a middle piece.

"Yeah, I assume it's all online or do you have a stall at Lord's Street market?"

"Both, though the stall is more or less rarer. Much easier and safer to do online." Nikki informed the two of them.

"Makes sense." Joanna noted.

Taylor gave a light hum as she pulled another block out, the tower tilting slightly. "I used to help dad at the union during the summer. Just answering the phone. That stuff."

"Secretary." Joanna quirked her lips into a half smile. "Somehow, I can see you being one. Or a Librarian, or a Teacher. You have that deposition around you, more comfortable with books than people." She clicked her tongue. "Not a teacher. Professor? Yes, I could see you as one."

"My mom was a professor." She softly stated. "Books are nice. I like them."

"Oh. Well." Joanna shifted. "Daughter like mother, yes?"

Taylor didn't know what to say to that besides a hummed agreement and instead settled on a neutral line for her lips.

Joanna shifted. Again.

"My mother was a good woman." Nikki noted absently. "She did her best for all ten of us."

Joanna slowly pulled her hand away from the jenga tower, which now slightly leaned to the right. "Ten?" She asked faintly, taking the question right out of Taylor's mouth as she stared.

She knew Nikki had lost some of her siblings but...

Nikki nodded "They wanted a big family."

"Fucking hell." Joanna muttered, reaching for the tower only to knock it over with a misplaced touch.

"Are they…" She wetted her tongue as she considered her words, drawing Nikki's full attention. "Are they all still in Russia?"

"My Father is, along with those that were buried. A few are in America, but the parahuman we had hired to bring us over could only scatter us. I came here with my Babushka by luck." Nikki answered. "I do hope I get to meet my siblings again one day."

"Well that's depressing as hell." Joanna said as she moved to put the tower back together. Something that Taylor would be helping with. Instead she threaded her fingers through Nikki's own and gave a light squeeze.

"They're cut off from the rest of your family?"

A quiet jerky nod was Nikki's answer.

"Have you… you could hire someone to find them, right? Like a PI or, uh, I guess a cape."

"No. The USA is quite large." Nikki frowned. "Plus we are not all technically legal citizens."

"I figured." Joanna stated dryly.

"But… don't you want to find your siblings?"

"Yes, but I do not wish to cause them trouble. We all knew we would likely not get to see one another again. But it was the risk we all understood, we accepted it." Nikki shifted. "Technically I and my babushka landed in Canada. Effectively..." her head twitched, cocking to the side in thought. "...well, it was simply that more of us were likely to survive anyway if we were scattered."

"Every time you open your mouth I feel an urge to buy an American flag." Joanna mumbled to herself before she shook her head. "You need to write this shit down Nikki, it'd sell well at least."

"I prefer my privacy." Nikki replied.

"Don't you…" Taylor trailed off, as she realized what she was about to ask.

Don't you miss them? Don't you care? Don't you want to see your siblings? Don't you have enough money to hire someone who wouldn't care about their legal status? Doesn't your dad or grandma want to know how they are doing? How can you live in comfort and be nonchalant without knowing?

Joanna stood up, motioning for Taylor to follow before briskly walking down a hallway. Taylor followed, her hand slipping out of Nikki's. She looked in askance at Joanna.

"Taylor." Joanna whispered. "Please tell me you weren't about to ask if she actually cared about her family."

She couldn't meet Joanna's eyes and whispered back, "...I wasn't."

"Oh my god Taylor." Joanna pinched the bridge of her nose. "You're the one who floated the idea of a mafia family!" She whispered harshly. "Does the tidbit of 'more of us were likely to survive if we were scattered' not ring that little alarm that someone might be hunting them?"

"Ah. Fuck."

"Yes. 'Fuck' indeed. Also, maybe you should start carrying a knife." Joanna noted pointedly.

"I don't even own one outside of, like, a kitchen knife!" Internally, she probably never would. If there was an instance where the giant couldn't save her, then a knife wouldn't help.

"Right well, a lot of crime families tend to make examples out of loved ones. Get something to protect yourself with." Joanna ordered.

...considering that organized crime had capes, the giant might actually be warranted. Still...

"I don't think she was being hunted because her dad is still sending her money." She sighed. "I keep pepper spray on me, but I don't think I could convince my dad to buy me anything more than maybe a pocket knife."

Joanna just stared, it was an almost pitying look. "Alright." She eventually said. "Just stop poking Nikki where it hurts alright?"

"I didn't mean to." She sounded petulant even to herself.

"Yeah whatever. Just go gay at her and stop poking it." Joanna turned crisply and moved to head back to the table.

Taylor listened to the footsteps for a moment, as she stared at the floor.

Guilt gnawed at her for almost asking Nikki if she even cared about her siblings. It was a thoughtless question. If Joanna had picked it up, Nikki most certainly had. She was attentive to things.

Worse was that Taylor sincerely doubted Nikki would even say anything if she had noticed. She wasn't the kind of person to pick at this, rather to let it flow by her, like water. No matter what she actually felt.

She was going to go give Nikki a hug and hope all was forgiven.

...she really hoped she wouldn't need Joanna to point out every time she was being dumb.

She really, really hoped that wasn't going to be the case.

Taylor had kind of a good time hanging out with friends. It got real sad. Now it is time for power related activities;

[] Patrol – Go search for trouble [QA is not casting a vote today. She seems excited, though.]
[] Research Local – Find out what's going on with the cape scene in Brockton Bay
[] Power experimentation – Taylor is going to mess around with her power/prep for exciting part of cape life
[] Preparations – Taylor doing prep work for the boring part of being a cape
[] Cape social (Taylor doesn't know any capes yet) – Talk to another cape

Author's note: New chapter doot doot.

Chips with Ridges are the way to go.

Jesus Christ. Were any of them born twins or triplets? 10 trips to the hospital for childbirth is a fuck ton.

I wanna keep QA from voting. Patrolling when she's excited might help keep her happy with us I think.

Now why would QA be excited. This is surely a good thing that shall have only positive consequences. Maybe they were shipping Taylor and Nikki and are excited that it finally sailed?

I have established before that outside other important decisions... This will be the only consistent vote I'll have.

Right now, she knows only bare actionable intel; point out target, giant smash. She's had an inkling of something else with his NPs and maaaybe a budding opinion about how sapient he is, but that's all.

I'll keep voting about this until they hold an actual conversation, charades or not.

You're now an anime protagonists, being dumb is now part of your DNA.

Agreed. Also you forgot to place an X between the brackets.
