[X] Power experimentation – Taylor is going to mess around with her power/prep for exciting part of cape life
This was the fourth time she had come out here to experiment with her power and it was by far the most annoying time.
Mostly because it had to do with the fact that at some point recently it had gone above freezing just long enough for some of the snow to melt and refreeze into ice. Or that one squirrel that threw something at her. It was probably poop.
Aggravating.
Taylor didn't even try to repress the sigh of frustration after nearly slipping and breaking her neck for the fifth time in the last hour. Doing it while carrying something made this even harder.
At least she was finally in the clearing she had been using.
Honestly, she was looking forward to experimenting with the giant- it had been a few weeks since the last time. Before that…
The indescribable muscle tensed.
A quarter ton of muscle and meat appeared before her.
Taylor opened the box of chocolate she had purchased.
"I know I asked before if you could eat… you said yes. I… bought you chocolate?"
It felt weird to say this out loud to what was ostensibly was part of her. "Please bend down." The giant took a knee- he was so tall that even with him lowered so far, she barely come up to the middle of his chest.
The box had a dozen pieces of chocolate, a variety of them, and had been pretty cheap to buy given that Valentines day was yesterday.
She tossed a piece into his mouth.
Taylor couldn't exactly tell if he chewed it or if it just went down his throat, but she threw another one in. She didn't give him all the chocolates, pilfering the white chocolate piece for herself. For a brief period, the rictus of emotion across his features evened out.
She gave him a small smile. "You like chocolate." It wasn't a question, "maybe you like other things?" No response came from him but she was used to that. "I'll try and grab something else for you to try next time."
Now came the fun part…
"Please hold still."
Taylor turned to the nearest tree stump and beat her boots on them, trying to remove as much of the snow and slush that had accumulated there. Next, "hold out a hand, palm up, at my shoulder height." A sound more akin to grinding rocks as his body contorted in that way.
She stepped up onto the tree stump.
Taylor jumped.
With an audible oomph, she landed on a steel like texture, her grip slipping slightly with the fact it gave her no give. Clambering up, she shuffled forwards half a foot before pulling herself up on to the next step of this, feeling very much like a kid climbing a jungle gym. Having reached the next platform, she scooted her butt onto it and then slowly stood up, holding on to the nearest vertical surface as a guide. Once she was standing, she turned and sat down on her goal.
If anyone else had been there, she would have felt very judged as she climbed up the giant's knee and then used his palm to get seated on his left shoulder. She was not elegant in motion at all, feeling all the gangly teenager that she was in that moment.
Truthfully, this didn't serve any purpose given that she was trying to stay hidden when going out as a cape, buuut…
"Please walk forwards, slowly."
...it sounded fun and after the awkwardness of yesterday and how Nikki seemed to be completely back to normal today, Taylor wanted to do something fun.
Taylor had ridden horses before.
They were a staple of summer camp. Even if she wasn't particularly good at it or enjoyed it- having a large animal under you that could decide it didn't want to go where you wanted it to go was honestly pretty scary.
In the barest sense of the definition, Taylor found that the most similar. There was something of an uneven motion as the giant strode forth, causing Taylor to jostle slightly in her perch that tickled those memories into the forefront of her mind.
Yet the unease that she felt while on a horse was not present here.
If Taylor had to pinpoint why, it was probably the fact that the giant listened to her verbatim and wasn't going to gallivant away in a random direction.
Or the fact that he had placed a hand for her to brace against. That also helped.
She had a sense that if she were to fall off, the giant would catch her. Ergo, the worry was not truly present for her. Honestly the lack of worry was more worrisome.
It was pretty fun.
She could verbally call out where to go, and he would turn and start walking there. Speed up or slow down.
That led her to wonder something in particular.
Taylor had seen the giant jump before; able to move so quickly it looked less like a parabolic arc and more of a point to point movement.
She kinda-sorta-maybe wanted to see if she could have the giant jump with her.
...it might be the closest she could ever get to flying under her own control.
Did it have anything to do with caping?
Probably not.
Was this insanely dangerous?
Most likely.
Did her inner child start begging her to try?
Definitely.
"Without letting me fall or get injured, jump to the next clearing, that way." Taylor pointed towards a clearing that had been made in a previous test. "Please."
A hand closed around her lower body, like a roller-coaster bar lowering- Taylor could feel his center of gravity shift as he lowered and instinctively she grabbed onto his head which was roughly the size of half her torso.
Less grabbed on and more wrapped around as he jumped.
A scream ripped from her mouth as they went rocketing into the air, her eyes squeezed shut only opening as a sense of weightlessness shocked them open.
It was a scene that she would remember until the day she died.
A hundred feet or more above the ground, a sea of green from pine trees, brown from the leaf-less trees and white dusting all with snow and ice. An expanse that went as far as the eye could see, or at least as far as Taylor could see when looking slightly downward.
Gravity's hold took over.
All those colours started to quickly encroach on her, causing her heart to beat an extra beat or two before the giant impacted the ground, her vision filling with white as snow was kicked up into a mist.
Surprisingly a smooth landing.
"Wooo!"
Taylor couldn't quite help it as she spun on her feet for a moment after getting down from her perch.
It was a thrill not quite like any she had experienced.
Her heart was pounding, her mind was racing.
It made her feel alive.
Her inner child wanted another ride.
Her legs on the other hand… deposited her on a fallen tree as they kept shaking.
It was only as she sat there, trying to collect her breath, that she heard the sound of something moving in the snow.
A lot of somethings.
They got louder.
Taylor…
[] ...used the giant to flee. She doesn't know what it is, but she wants no part in it.
[] ...dissipated the giant. It's getting warmer, its probably just hikers wanting to see what made the noise.
[] ...kept the giant manifested. This might be a wild animal that needs to be scared off?
Author's Note: It took… a bit longer to do a new chapter. Because it's been so long since I last did a power experimentation I forgot what was last done. Had to re-read parts of it.
Also, yes, Taylor tried to clean off her boots so she didn't track mud on the giant.
Taylor had fun. Which means something has to happen. I don't make the rules, I just follow them.
