I want at least one fic where she isn't suppressing her lesbianism for like 100 chapters.
Of course it's the guy with the Gigachad as his profile picture. Also I swear I've seen one, although it's not a primary focus nor does she hook up… damn we need to get her laid.

[X] ...went on a date with Nikki, to not hurt her friend's feelings.

In the end, Taylor just didn't want to crush Nikki's feelings. She could admit that Nikki was attractive, she really could. More so than Taylor was.

But, maybe, deep down, Taylor had a much more selfish reason to accept.

Being asked out made her feel like she was worth something.

She felt flattered.

Perhaps, mixed in there, was also the desire to actually go on a date and see what it was like. Even if it invariably went down in flames. To just have that one normal high school benchmark in her life.

Taylor nodded.

"Okay. Yeah. Sure." A bit of pink tinged her cheeks as she looked at Nikki.

Nikki nodded slowly, a tiny smile coming across her face. "Would this weekend, Saturday, be an acceptable time for the date? In the evening, wearing formal-casual?" She asked, shifting her weight side to side.

Taylor didn't know what that was, but knew enough to nod her head. "Yeah. That sounds… good."

How does one act around someone who asked them out on a date?

Taylor had no ideas. None. Zilch. Zero.

She awkwardly stood next to the car as Nikki stared at her.

"I'm, uh, gonna head back. And eat. Food." Nikki kept staring at her with a smile, making Taylor become increasingly hyper aware of what she was doing. Which was just standing around. "Yeah."

Taylor fled back into the school.
What she didn't see was Nikki ripping the car door open, hopping in, and peeling out of the school parking lot with squeal of burning rubber.

It was as the last bell for the day rang that Taylor bumped into her other singular friend.

Joanna eyed Taylor much like one might eye an interesting rock on the ground. "Managed to not make her cry, huh? Is that a thing with you, or is it just happenstance?"

Taylor groaned as she hung her head.

"Honestly surprised that Nikki went for you. Always thought that girl was as dense as lead when it came to reading people, but she managed to peg you as gay, which, point in her favor I suppose." Joanna rolled her eyes. "But I have to admit, rejecting her by making fun of her was a bit rough, even for me."

"I panicked!" Taylor threw up her hands. "I didn't think that was real! People are more likely to shove me in a locker than ask me out." She stilled and looked at Joanna with a considering expression, "what do you mean I'm gay? I like guys."

The look Joanna gave Taylor was so flat it could be used as a level. "Taylor. You eyefuck every girl you meet. I'm pretty sure if anyone cared they'd be betting on 'when' not 'if'."

"No I don't!"

Joanna just kept staring.

"I don't!"

And staring.

"I don't think I do…"

Joanna continued to give Taylor that flat stare. Then she sighed. "Taylor you've checked me out once already since we started talking. You keep all your nails short, and you wear men's clothes. The only way for you to appear gayer would be shooting rainbows like Legend while wearing plaid."

"Do not." She responded mulishly without any conviction looking at the ground, "It's not by choice. Hoodies and jeans are cheap. Nails are hard to keep long."

Before Joanna could say anything else, she added, "I still like boys."

"Uh-huh." Joanna rolled her eyes. "Look, just don't get caught up by the Empire, alright? Nikki could probably beat the shit out of them. But honestly I could probably pick you up and throw you, and my legs are still weak from lack of use." Joanna shifted, "so, uh. Be safe. I guess."

Taylor gave her a smile and a quiet, "thanks." Getting genuine feelings like that from Joanna was akin to trying to get water from stone.

"In other news, I have a date with Nikki on Saturday."

Joanna blinked. "Wait, didn't you reject her? What was all the blubbering about then?!"

"I was surprised!" Before the other girl could say anything, she continued. "I found her in her car at lunch staring at the chocolate. She asked again."

Joanna snorted.

"Oh. Well. Don't look at me for advice on dating. I haven't had any either." Joanna told her with a huff. "Most guys don't look for a girlfriend who doesn't have working parts... and my mom probably scares off the rest. Either way, good luck with... all of that. If it doesn't work out..."

Joanna paused and then shrugged. "I got nothin'."

"Fuck."

Joanna gingerly patted Taylor on the shoulder before heading over to her mother's SUV, leaving Taylor standing there.

"Fuck."

Well, today has been a topsy-turvy day for Taylor. Hopefully parahuman stuff is gentler on her.

[] Patrol – Go search for trouble [QA is currently content at reviewing data. For now.]
[] Research Local – Find out what's going on with the cape scene in Brockton Bay
[] Power experimentation – Taylor is going to mess around with her power/prep for exciting part of cape life
[] Preparations – Taylor doing prep work for the boring part of being a cape
[] Cape social (Taylor doesn't know any capes yet) – Talk to another cape

Author's note: For reference, Taylor wasn't checking out Joanna. Though in canon, Taylor really is a bit focused on how pretty other girls look…

Any who, secret third option did not win and the moment has passed. Ah, well. Such is life.

I've been able to bust these out pretty frequently recently. Hopefully I can do another chapter tomorrow. Really get back into the swing of things!

Thank you for all the votes and discussion last chapter!

we should see how much the Giant can crush things for Science!

Okay I know this isn't what you meant with this option but what if she wore a body cam or at least a recorder. I feel like that would probably solve a lot of issues.

The problem is that she doesn't know a way to do that without it being like, super traceable. Or with any kind of fidelity for Taylor to understand.

That crossed out "talk to another cape option" is mocking us.
Also, one day Taylor will understand that bisexual people exist lol.

Might as well do a bit more networking. Or attempt to, at least.

[X] Power experimentation – Taylor is going to mess around with her power/prep for exciting part of cape life

This was the fourth time she had come out here to experiment with her power and it was by far the most annoying time.

Mostly because it had to do with the fact that at some point recently it had gone above freezing just long enough for some of the snow to melt and refreeze into ice. Or that one squirrel that threw something at her. It was probably poop.

Aggravating.

Taylor didn't even try to repress the sigh of frustration after nearly slipping and breaking her neck for the fifth time in the last hour. Doing it while carrying something made this even harder.

At least she was finally in the clearing she had been using.

Honestly, she was looking forward to experimenting with the giant- it had been a few weeks since the last time. Before that…

The indescribable muscle tensed.

A quarter ton of muscle and meat appeared before her.

Taylor opened the box of chocolate she had purchased.

"I know I asked before if you could eat… you said yes. I… bought you chocolate?"

It felt weird to say this out loud to what was ostensibly was part of her. "Please bend down." The giant took a knee- he was so tall that even with him lowered so far, she barely come up to the middle of his chest.

The box had a dozen pieces of chocolate, a variety of them, and had been pretty cheap to buy given that Valentines day was yesterday.

She tossed a piece into his mouth.

Taylor couldn't exactly tell if he chewed it or if it just went down his throat, but she threw another one in. She didn't give him all the chocolates, pilfering the white chocolate piece for herself. For a brief period, the rictus of emotion across his features evened out.

She gave him a small smile. "You like chocolate." It wasn't a question, "maybe you like other things?" No response came from him but she was used to that. "I'll try and grab something else for you to try next time."

Now came the fun part…

"Please hold still."

Taylor turned to the nearest tree stump and beat her boots on them, trying to remove as much of the snow and slush that had accumulated there. Next, "hold out a hand, palm up, at my shoulder height." A sound more akin to grinding rocks as his body contorted in that way.

She stepped up onto the tree stump.

Taylor jumped.

With an audible oomph, she landed on a steel like texture, her grip slipping slightly with the fact it gave her no give. Clambering up, she shuffled forwards half a foot before pulling herself up on to the next step of this, feeling very much like a kid climbing a jungle gym. Having reached the next platform, she scooted her butt onto it and then slowly stood up, holding on to the nearest vertical surface as a guide. Once she was standing, she turned and sat down on her goal.

If anyone else had been there, she would have felt very judged as she climbed up the giant's knee and then used his palm to get seated on his left shoulder. She was not elegant in motion at all, feeling all the gangly teenager that she was in that moment.

Truthfully, this didn't serve any purpose given that she was trying to stay hidden when going out as a cape, buuut…

"Please walk forwards, slowly."

...it sounded fun and after the awkwardness of yesterday and how Nikki seemed to be completely back to normal today, Taylor wanted to do something fun.

Taylor had ridden horses before.

They were a staple of summer camp. Even if she wasn't particularly good at it or enjoyed it- having a large animal under you that could decide it didn't want to go where you wanted it to go was honestly pretty scary.

In the barest sense of the definition, Taylor found that the most similar. There was something of an uneven motion as the giant strode forth, causing Taylor to jostle slightly in her perch that tickled those memories into the forefront of her mind.

Yet the unease that she felt while on a horse was not present here.

If Taylor had to pinpoint why, it was probably the fact that the giant listened to her verbatim and wasn't going to gallivant away in a random direction.

Or the fact that he had placed a hand for her to brace against. That also helped.

She had a sense that if she were to fall off, the giant would catch her. Ergo, the worry was not truly present for her. Honestly the lack of worry was more worrisome.

It was pretty fun.

She could verbally call out where to go, and he would turn and start walking there. Speed up or slow down.

That led her to wonder something in particular.

Taylor had seen the giant jump before; able to move so quickly it looked less like a parabolic arc and more of a point to point movement.

She kinda-sorta-maybe wanted to see if she could have the giant jump with her.

...it might be the closest she could ever get to flying under her own control.

Did it have anything to do with caping?

Probably not.

Was this insanely dangerous?

Most likely.

Did her inner child start begging her to try?

Definitely.

"Without letting me fall or get injured, jump to the next clearing, that way." Taylor pointed towards a clearing that had been made in a previous test. "Please."

A hand closed around her lower body, like a roller-coaster bar lowering- Taylor could feel his center of gravity shift as he lowered and instinctively she grabbed onto his head which was roughly the size of half her torso.

Less grabbed on and more wrapped around as he jumped.

A scream ripped from her mouth as they went rocketing into the air, her eyes squeezed shut only opening as a sense of weightlessness shocked them open.

It was a scene that she would remember until the day she died.

A hundred feet or more above the ground, a sea of green from pine trees, brown from the leaf-less trees and white dusting all with snow and ice. An expanse that went as far as the eye could see, or at least as far as Taylor could see when looking slightly downward.

Gravity's hold took over.

All those colours started to quickly encroach on her, causing her heart to beat an extra beat or two before the giant impacted the ground, her vision filling with white as snow was kicked up into a mist.

Surprisingly a smooth landing.

"Wooo!"

Taylor couldn't quite help it as she spun on her feet for a moment after getting down from her perch.

It was a thrill not quite like any she had experienced.

Her heart was pounding, her mind was racing.

It made her feel alive.

Her inner child wanted another ride.

Her legs on the other hand… deposited her on a fallen tree as they kept shaking.

It was only as she sat there, trying to collect her breath, that she heard the sound of something moving in the snow.

A lot of somethings.

They got louder.

Taylor…

[] ...used the giant to flee. She doesn't know what it is, but she wants no part in it.
[] ...dissipated the giant. It's getting warmer, its probably just hikers wanting to see what made the noise.
[] ...kept the giant manifested. This might be a wild animal that needs to be scared off?

Author's Note: It took… a bit longer to do a new chapter. Because it's been so long since I last did a power experimentation I forgot what was last done. Had to re-read parts of it.

Also, yes, Taylor tried to clean off her boots so she didn't track mud on the giant.

Taylor had fun. Which means something has to happen. I don't make the rules, I just follow them.
